Best settings for photo slideshow

Hello,
I am doing a photo slideshow that will be presented on an overhead projector. What is the best settings to render the iMovie as?
Any suggestions are welcome.

Do I do medium even if I am going to burn it to DVD or is there a better setting if I am going to burn it to DVD?
I need this done very soon, so please reply.

I have become very frustrated with iMovie. It does a terrible job of rendering a photo only slideshow if you burn it to DVD. Someone suggested to used the medium export for Standard Definition, but I think I've found the trick.
1. Open iMovie
2. Find the project that you want to export
3. Click share, then "export to Quicktime"
4. Click options.
5. Under settings, choose DV/DVCPRO - NTSC (Quality Best). Choose progressive.
6. Under size, choose under dimensions "current" Preserve aspect ratio with letterbox.
That should do it! I had super low quality video before and now the videos seem much better. I am still considering purchasing PhotoMagico by Boinx.

thanks for the tip, i am extremely frustrated with imovie right now. i have a slideshow of a wedding i went to that i desperately want to share but i cant export to a good enough quality. does that export setting put the video in a format you can use on youtube or vimeo?

What are the best settings for a slideshow on DVD

So I'm looking at this helpful article -- http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3781 -- and wondering: if I want to make a slideshow to burn on a DVD to show on a large-screen HDTV, what would be the right settings for Photo Preview and Photo Quality? Thanks!

Mark, yes a DVD will play back on a HDTV, just the quality will not match the capability of the playback device. This is certainly the easiest approach though.
As the article you referenced says, ensuring that your previews are set to a larger pixel dimension than your required output will ensure maximum quality, given that you will more than likely have movement on the images in the slide show I would suggest going with pixel dimensions that are at least 1920px.

Lack of settings for photo slideshows

I've got to the stage of extreme frustration now trying to change the way that Front Row displays photos from iPhoto events (basically any photos in iPhoto).
When I use the remote to envoke Front Row, select photos and select an event, Front row uses Ken Burns and a cube transition set to about 1 second delay. Frankly the whole experience makes me a little sea sick. I've looked at the settings accessed by the remote but there's nothing there. I've applied some slideshow settings to the event and played it in iPhoto and it works fine...it just doesn't uses these settings when the event is played in Front Row.
However, if I set up an actual slideshow in iPhoto the settings are carried over to Front Row.
This is extremely frustrating as it means that I can't simply trawl through my photo collection at random, sans Ken Burns, cube settings and a general feeling of nausea . I have to set up a bespoke slideshow each time I want to view photos in Front Row. Clearly the settings can be carried over, it just seems that Apple haven't got around to providing access to custom settings for Events....or am I missing something.

I'm running iLife '09 and I have noticed that with photos/Events...
However, if I create an Album, I can assign custom music, themes or no theme like Ken Burns, the duration of the photo and several other settings.
Try creating an album with all the settings you prefer and then open up Front Row.
Mine works just fine for albums.

Best settings for iPhoto Slideshow Export

My aim is to export an iPhoto slideshow (iPhoto ‘11 v9.3.1) and import into the FCP7 sequence with the best possible quality.
Original video source - Sony camcorder - DV PAL (16.9 anamorphic) imported into FCP7 with a sequence preset of DV PAL 48 KHz Anamorphic (720 x 576)
Stills for slideshow - 3648 x 2736 Jpeg
I realise I will lose significant quality to fit the restraints of the DV sequence and so after some tests the best result was through a custom export from iPhoto
Compression - H.264
Frame rate changed to 25
Keyframes & data rate - Automatic
Quality - Best
Encoding - Best Quality (multi-pass)
Size - 768 x 576 SD
A few thoughts -
Are there other settings for better results?
The resulting QT movie had a slightly inferior quality inside Final Cut than when played outside with Quicktime Player
Any movement over the stills created a strobing/flickering effect inside Final Cut - I have never been able to sort this problem out and now no longer set keyframes to move over stills.
I have tried a third party software (Industrial Revolution CoverFlux2) with no great improvement re flickering problem and general quality
The sequence is 16.9 but any attempt to export the slideshow to fit (eg 720 x 576 16.9) stretches the images.

You're already in FCP7 so why go to iPhoto and then back to FCP? That just adds layers of encoding which will reduce the final image quality. As TD pointed out keep it in FCP

Best settings for photos to upload to Mobileme

I'm using MobileMe to show photos of my kids football games. I'm taking approx. 2,000 (2 games) and I'm importing to Aperture as HQ jpegs from a Canon 5D Mark 11. They are used for viewing on computer and not HQ printing, although they can be downloaded to print etc. but it's not critical. It's taking along time to upload (keeping under 500 per upload) and I'm trying to find out if my settings are too high quality etc. for this application. I'm just trying to find the optimum settings to speed up the process.
If anybody here is doing the same thing, please advise as to what you do.
Also, is there another program, site that would allow me to this better/faster?

The speed is more to do with your internet connection.
Aperture will use an optimised file.
If you export small size files, to the desktop, then go to your m me a/c you can upload the desktop files. I don't think you will be very impressed at the speed increase though.

Use the largest file, pixel wise, that you can. The books are printed at 300 dpi so the largest size the better to insure you'll get as close to that dpi for the largest page picture possible.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. I, on the other hand, would recommend that you start with the Mode Dial on P (Program Auto.) While the SCN (Scene Selection) mode has a lot to offer when you find yourself in extraordinary circumstances, you won't learn much by letting the camera do all the decision making for you. Program Auto lets the camera do most of the heavy lifting, but still allows you to use some of the more creative options, like Exposure Compensation, D-Range Optimizer, Creative Style, etc., and it allows you to adjust the exposure settings via the Control Dial, so you can adjust the shutter speed and aperture to your taste while still getting a properly exposed image. I would also caution you against using Spot metering. Often, you'll find that the spot will fall on someone's white shirt, or dark sweater, or black car, all of which will cause the camera to set the exposure for that small area that is not representative of the entire scene. Instead, I would suggest that you use Center Weighted metering so that the portion of the scene you're primarily interested in is used to select the exposure settings. What should you take away from these two obviously contradictory recommendations? There is no "Best" way to do this. What matters is what's best for you, and the way you want to use the tools available to you in your A58. Go out and take LOTS of photos (It's not like you have to pay for developing, like in the bad old, pre-digital days.) and see what works for you.

Best Settings for Audigy 2 ZS Recording Out to S-VHS or DVD Recor

I?m recording some very machine intensi've video & sound to outboard devices. I'm using these outboard devices so that the recording process itself does not impact the demonstration performance.
Concerning the sound out, I?m using the line & 2 out of the card, and running it through a pro level audio board (Mackie) for any adjustments & monitoring before taking the line out of the board into the recording device. When returning the sound for monitoring, I?m also running from the external device directly to the board and directly from there to either headphones or control room monitors. Thus, I?m using the Audigy for initial sound generation. So far, I've not really made any ajustments at the board other than level or balance. I like to keep things pretty flat in recording.
I?ve looked around for recommendations as to the best settings for the Audigy card from its internal software for this situation, but find no ready reference. My concern is that I have the ?hottest? signal from this device, while being very concerned with audio quality. I?m looking for both ?punch? and ?clarity? of signal.
Is there a document or source that would give me this direction? While I can move from this SB card to other more studio based cards, I?d like to keep the demo product in line with what the actual target audience would have in their machines, and be able to replicate at their workstation.
For example, does the card function best at 00% (0db) output, or 50% (-5db) output?
Or some setting in between...most likely...
Or, is there some other setting I?m not aware of?
I have what I believe are the latest card drivers and software suite, XP Pro, with every possible OS and other machine hardware update available.

Best settings for importing to iPod classic

Have a lot of music on my ipod that I have imported at low quality settings. Am going to take some time re-doing this so would like to know the best settings for the best quality sound. Have plenty of room and would prefer a richer sound rather than more quantity.

What are the best settings for ripping cd's in the AAC format?

I have researched and found out that the AAC format rules over the MP3 format as fas as sound quality goes with lossy formats. Example: AAC at 128 is better than MP3 at 160 as so forth. My questions are: What are the best settings for ripping cd's in the AAC format? Will I be able to burn cd mixes with the tracks I import into itunes after importing using the AAC format? Does the AAC format have VBR like the MP3 format? Is there other ripping software such as dbPoweramp and Exact Audio Copy that does a better job ripping cd's in the AAC format? Please help!

It is a matter of opinion, but I suggest 256 kb/s, CBR, and leave all other settings on automatic.

Yes. Just put them in a playlist and burn.

Yes. You will see it as an option in the Import Settings.

EAC does a better job of correcting errors in damaged CDs, but for normal CDs iTunes does a fine job of ripping to AAC.

Need advise on best settings for FCP 7!

I am looking for some advice on the best settings for FCP 7 when I am syncing sound using pluraleyes, exporting into quicktime as one file and then importing that new file into FCP 7 for editing. I have noticed that sometimes my Quicktime files are very large (20 gb) and sometimes they are much smaller (130 MB), but I never changed the settings.
I am working on FCP 7 and shot using my Panasonic GH3 at 24 fps (which comes to 23.98). My frame size is 1920x1080. Compressor is H.264. Data rate: 8.6 MB/sec. Audio rate: 48.0 KHz. I have heard that FCP 7 does not properly deal with H.264. So, I am wondering, what should my settings be? Should I set to "Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920x1080 24p 48 kHz"? Is there anything I need to know when I export to Quicktime 7 Pro in order to not reduce the quality of the video? Should I be changing my video files first before I even start to work on them?
I haven't edited in almost ten years so I am desperate need of some guidance!

Thanks for your help. So, I already synced all of my interviews in FCP 7 (using pluraleyes) before I changed the video to ProRess 422. Can I just go into FCP (in the same project) and compress the video footage, import the new video files and throw it into the timeline? Or will this cause issues? I tried this as a test and it seems to be okay but I just want to check that there aren't any issues that I am not considering.
Also, when I do compress, it seems to take forever (sometimes two hours). Is there any way to make this move along faster?

I installed After Effects CC 2014 on a computer with i74790k, Radeon 6850 and 8 GB of RAM.
The program runs smoothly but it makes Windows 8.1 a bit unresponsive, for example opening and closing folders take longer, also browsing files, opening the start menu, etc.

Check your memory and multiprocessing settings. The RAM reserved for other applications probably needs to be higher.

According to almost everyone who uses it. The 4GB is the bare minimum for it to run. However, you need more than 8 for it to run well. I'd consider 16 as a minimum for it to run well, but considering how cheap and easy it is to upgrade RAM, I'd put more than that in your system if possible.

Best Settings for Exporting DVD Footage in a Movie File

Hello,
I've been trying to find the best settings for exporting DVD footage into a movie file from Adobe Premiere CS6.
I recently have been using my Magnavox DVD recorder for recording VHS tapes that I made long ago for shows and various other things, and no matter what, my footage doesn't come out as it needs to be.

I'm not expecting HD footage, I know these are tapes, but I'm playing the raw footage on my Xbox 360, and it looks better than this. I had to directly use the VOB files on the DVD for this, as trying to rip the files into an AVI or any other format with a DVD ripper didn't do anything, in fact it degraded the quality and made the audio not play in Premiere.
So what would be some good settings for exporting a sequence with DVD footage that is from a VHS into a movie file, preferably one that wouldn't degrade the quality?

First, read Why not edit mpeg http://tangentsoft.net/video/mpeg/edit.html to get a general idea of why a VOB makes a very poor source file (which is a renamed MPG, with some other stuff like menu screens)

Once you have a DVD compliant VOB on your timeline, and understanding that a standalone DVD recorder sometimes plays fast-n-loose with "compliance" per the DVD specification, about all you can do is export to standard or widescreen DV AVI and accept the fact that re-encoding an already compressed file is just not going to give great results
