Best settings for YouTube video?

I've just finished editing my first video in iMovie and would like to export it to upload to YouTube. The YouTube site asks for MPEG4 at 320x240 pixels, 30fps, with MP3 audio. But what about all the other settings in the advanced export settings? Does anyone know what they should be for best results?
Thanks in advance.

This, from Karsten Schlülter (YouTuber):
I recommend in the expert settings:
mpeg4 as comprossor
in the options:
320x240 (youtube's "native" res)
30 fps (for fast action), 15 fps (to generate smaller files for longer movies)
the bitrate slider...- 500kB/sec is an excellent quality for such res (and generates laaarge files), but the conversion at youtube adds a lot of artfifacts...

thats way too vague of a question... best what?  quality? size? playback?
best quality then use high bitrate, small size use low bitrate.

  • Best settings for 4k video in Premiere Pro CS6

I am trying to nail this down. I have an (Asus G20AJ Series) ASUS i7 3.6 Ghz with 16GB RAM 64 bit. I now have a drone that uses 4k video. I am pretty sure I have the rendering down but I wanted to ask if you guys can suggest options for all the best settings for setup, playback and export of the video. My drone does video of 4096x2160 @23 fps. When I went to render the 6 minute file, wow, it was going to take more than 4 hours! Is this right? Any info you can suggest would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

4 hours sounds about right for this source material on such a system. Better hardware may be needed to reduce the exporting time or you have to convert the source material to a less demanding format.

  • Best Settings for Youtube Upload?

My source is an xvid avi file with the following attribudes:
    Frame Width: 624
    Frame Height: 352
    Data Rate: 1043kbps
    Total Bitrate: 1166kbps
    Frame Rate: 29 frames/sec
All I am doing is trimming the clip and adding a credit screen on the end. What are the best settings to get the least resolution loss when uploading to YouTube? I also want the video to fill the whole screen, I was having problems with it adding horizontal bars as well, I do not want them I want it to stretch.
I tried searching for this answer already, thanks for your help!!

There are YouTube presets in Adobe Media Encoder. Just choose H.264 as the format and then choose one of the YouTube presets.

  • Best settings for ipod video playback on TV

I would like to know which video format is the best for a very good video playback on TV using ipod video ? And which settings choose for the video to have the best possible quality on TV, while still being able to store a lot of videos on the ipod.
I use a 1.67ghz powerbook, and the convertion process is so long, is it normal for it to be that long. I thought that powerbook were suppose to be really fast. Would buying more ram help ?
    thank you

If you're using QuickTime Pro's "Movie to iPod", then you're getting very good video quality. The reason why this takes so long is that instead of just compressing the video, it first examines the entire video looking for places that may be a little more difficult to encode (cross fades, cuts, high motion) then spending more time on them in the second pass. So, yeah, it's normal to take that long, but, in this case, that's how you get the best output.
Depending on your source (if it's from a VHS tape or something like that) you might want to download MPEG Streamclip and try H.263 or H.264 with only one pass. It's a bit faster and the results still look pretty good so that may suit you as well.

  • [E71 on Linux] Best settings for encoding video?

    Hello all,
I have an E71 and I would like to encode videos on my Linux box for it.
I have a script for that, using MPlayer's MEncode. I'd like to know what are the best settings, i.e.: Resolution, Video Bit rate, Audio Bit rate and Codec / file format.
Also, what is the best video player out there for the Symbian 9.1 3rd., preferably a freeware app...
I have DivX Mobile installed and the built-in Real Player (very poor quality playback - maybe because incorrect encoding?)
    Thanks!

Enough of the data you need is most likely on these two pages:

  • Best Settings For YouTube and Vimeo

When my camera's footage is uploaded to Final Cut Pro 7 the settings show as:
    Frame Size: HD (1440 x 1080) (16:9)
    Compressor: Apple Intermediate Codec
When I send it to compressor I keep the settings the same, but when I try to upload to Youtube or Vimeo, the upload fails.
To fix this problem I've compressed everything within the settings that Youtube specifies:
    H.264
    1280x720 resolution
But the quality drops dramatically. I've noticed that some other videos on YouTube still maintain very high quality though and I'm wondering if I could do something differently or compress to different settings to get better quality.
    Thanks for the help.

Sorry for all the questions, but where in the camera manual should I look to find info about the codec?
    It shoots HDV.
Also not sure what you mean by AIC?
    Shorthand for Apple Intermediate Codec.
When I first uploaded the footage I tried using final cut's "log and transfer" and also "log and capture," but couldn't get either to work.
Log & transfer will not ever work (for this camera's particular footage). Log & Transfer is aimed specifically at data-based cameras that record to memory and/or hard drives like Panasonic P2 cameras, RED, Canon DSLR's, etc. Not your camera which records to tape.
So, when you say Log and Capture didn't work, what do you mean? What happened? Nothing? Camera not recognized. Error messages?
Does this, other thread, help at all?

  • What is the best compression for youtube videos ?

I know I can go in export movie, then chosse medium for youtube, but is there a better compression because when I upload it on youtube, the quality is much lower. Should i export with QuickTime or i dunno ?
    Thnx for aswering !!

What is your source material? If it is DV, then sending to YouTube in the Medium Preset is fine.
If your source is AVCHD, you could import at 1920x1080. Then after editing, share using QuickTime at 1280x720 in h.264. Then upload to YouTube through the website.

Ive converted a couple but these do not play correctly on ipod (sound ok, just a collection of still frames-prob to high a bit rate etc..)

  • Best camera settings for youtube videos

What settings should I shoot video at in order to get the best youtube output?    My choices are 1920x1080-30; 1920x1080-24; 1280x720-60; 640x480-60; crop-640-60
I'm wondering if it's better to compress a high quaility video, or can I shoot at low quality and get the same results?
I have a Canon 60D and CS4 master collection with Premiere Pro and Encore.

Use the preset under H.264 and set the framerate the same as your footage.
Do a little experimenting, you dont have to upload the whole movie, couple of minutes is enough.
HD footage can be upload as HD so why go for low.

  • Best Settings for YouTube's HIgh Quality Video

I see YouTube has a new "high quality" video option that uses H.264 video at 480 x 360. If I want to take full advantade of this format how should I build my videoo to upload? I assume I should use H.264, but Premiere doesn't have an option to do so at 480x360.

After numerous trials and extensive searches on forums (with solutions way too complicated for me) this is my recipe.
(After upgrading to PE 7 I hoped that PE would do the trick, but no.)
    1. Premiere Elements.
Export ("Share") to harddisk, DV-AVI, 4:3 or Widescreen doesn't matter.
    2. Windows Movie Maker.
Import this AVI-file. You won't need to change or edit anything.
    Just "publish" (to disk) in
    WMV-format, dvd-quality (4:3 size) PAL 3,0 M.
    3. You Tube.
    Upload to YouTube.
Then wait (approx 10 min. per minute movietime) until the uploaded movie is released and online in high quality.
    Happy uploading!
Max size is 100 Mb; but there are work arounds for that too.
    Felix
