What size of slide should I be creating on my MacBook for displaying on the iPad?

From the Apple website, the iPad screen is 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi), so I would guess the default size of 1024 x 768 would be the best. However I don't have an iPad and have never used one, so you may want to ask in the community dedicated to iWork for iOS.

I am preparing a slide show to be presented on a large screen television set. A 50 incher.
What would be the ideal size for my slides to be sized before I add them to the iDVD slide show board? Better to save them as pdf files or simple jpeg images?

You will probably have to do some experimenting to see what works best for you.

Best screen size for exporting slideshow as pdf

Help please,I create slide shows for clients and export them in pdf format that are shown to numerours people but who are viewing the slide shows on different size displays ,what are the best settings both in silde show mode and creating and exporting as a PDF( height and width) so the images in the slide show will best and be maximized on all screens ?,size of the exported PDF is not a issue.

PS will there be any viewing difference ,if a slideshow created on a pc in Lightroom and shown on a Mac?

Having just tried to do the same thing, IMHO the Adobe PDF engine does not do the best job of resizing images. I exported at 1200x1600 and on my 1280x1024 screen there were noticeable jaggies on the text. The image itself was less noticeably degraded, but it was. For slide shows I use another product that does a much better job here, but you may not want to add another learning curve to your life. I think you should go to the PDF forum and ask around for a solution.
I can't speak to Mac/Pc issues.

Exporting for display on Ipad stretches video?

So I'm trying to export a project for display on an Ipad and when i do it keeps stretching the video. I've tried exporting it using both Export>Quicktime Conversion>Ipod, Ipone and Apple TV, I get the stretched picture every time. Any advice? I'm running FCP 5.1.4 and the sequence settings are as follows
Frame size: HD (1440x1080)(16:9)
Pixel Aspect: HD (1440x1080)
Field Dominance: Upper (Odd)
Editing Timebase 29.97
Quicktime Video settings
HDV 720p60
Quality: 100%
Audio settings
Rate: 48 kHz
Depth; 16-bit
Config: Default

Your video is Anamorphic and should have a Displayed size of 1920x1080 on a square pixel device such as your computer or iPad.
Use the Export to QuickTime function (not Conversion) and make it Self Contained with Current Settings
Open the exported video in QuickTime Player. Press command and i keys. Tell us exactly what it says in the Information window.
You should use this file in Compressor to make the 720P end result.
Why are you exporting as HDV? iOS devices require H.264.

What is the best page width in Muse for displaying HD images? I have read that 960 width is a standard width, but I need to display HD photos for my portfolio.

Reduce Form size for display on Mobile device

Hi all ,
I am currently working on messaging application in mobile device.My project is 90% completed. When I imported my application into 6680 series mobile device.It works fine.Actually i have loginscreen Form before opening the messaging window.In that loginscreen form i have used Username textbox,password textbox,login button,and some other components like remeber id ,autologin etc.But while displaying,only username textbox and password textbox itself displayed on the current display.remaining are all seen by scrolling down.Actually i want all my components to be displayed on the current display without scrolling.So can anyone tell me your idea for my issue as soon as possible.If it is posssible to reduce the form size means please tell the way to reduce it.

There are two ways...
Either go for a device with a screen size large enough to fit entire form in the visible screen...
Or, ask the device vender to reduce the form size for u in their implementation.
Any one with a better answer ??????

Optimum Photo/Slide Size for Podcast

Hello,
Would anyone know the optimum size for a slide from Keynote, to be exported to iPhoto, so it will fit in the pre-determined size for a podcast in GarageBand? My photos from Keynote slides are large, so I have to adjust their size in GarageBand. This leaves a black top and bottom to each photo in the finished podcast, kind of like watching a cinema film. Would it be 300x300?

Would't it be nice to use all the real estate of an iPod screen and have images 400x300, the dimensions of a Keynote slide? Garageband doesn't allow that currently, but if we let Apple know we would like it a software engineer should be able to easily add it. To submit such a request, launch Garageband and then under the Garageband menu at the top pull down and select "Garageband feedback". That's how you let them know to add this aspect ratio feature. Tips for DPS publishing for display on ipad & widescreen TVs

Im looking into the use of ipad as a presentation controller, for connection to an HD TV (using HDMI?, apple TV? ideas?) for display.
At the moment Ive designed folios horizontal at 768x1024 for ipad screen but should I instead be designing them at 1080 tall since the TV display for my audience is the priority?
If I do that what happens to the ipad screen during display? does it cut off the edges? or squeeze to fit? or does it display at all?
Ideally I would like the TV screen to display my folio full screen (without any black bars) but still be able to control, swipe and control interactivity from the ipad.
Anyone have experience and tips for setting this up?

This question is related to AirPlay, not dps.
When you mirror your iPad to an apple tv the output is always the same in 4:3 aspect ratio. This is for anything: the home screen, the web, games, magazines. Only videos might play in full screen on the apple tv.

Hi,
You can increase the buffer size by using the property bufferTime of NetStream Object you are using. For eg: if ns is your NetStream Object then it can be done by ns.bufferTime=<desired value>.

Best Video Size for YouTube

I know YouTube says to post videos at 320x240 but they upscale the image so the videos do not play at 320x240. I have a question into YouTube but they may take days to respond. I've searched through many YouTube questions here and found different information.
My question is what is the playback size for the videos on YouTube? I want to make my videos the same size so they won't be upscaled, thus quality lost.
I've read here that YouTube plays back at 425x350 while another says 450x357. Anyone know?

Secondly, in playing with these presets, I disagree about the de-interlacing not taking any extra time. In my tests, your SD preset said it was going to take four hours to finish a five minute clip of mine.... disabling the de-interlacing, it jumps to four minutes to complete. I will do both and see how much visual difference there is, but that is substantial for me! (sixty times as long)
Any who, I am running some different tests... will let you know once I have some results of my own.

Best Picture Sizes For 8.5 by 11 Book

i need to resize all my photos from around 1500 x 1500 px to ????? on another computer that has photoshop on it (i cant belive iPhoto wont let you resize a jpeg). All the pictures are to large for the book i am making
whats a good size for the jpeg's to be for a 8.5 x 11 book???

For a book use the largest pixel dimensions available. Do not resize down. If you need to downsize a photo for use outside of iPhoto use the File->Export->File Export menu option and you'll be able to set the pixel dimension and the amount of jpg compression (quality) for the exported file.
For batch resizing outside of iPhoto Resize! is a very good app and it's free.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I have imported images sized 720 pix on the long end, and I'm not happy with the iDVD 08 quality - the images are soft. It's only a 50 image slide show. Can I use full resolution images and if so does iDVD size them down ? I am exporting Jpegs out of LightRoom so I can make any size/quality required.
Or, is there another app I should try that would give more professional results. I do like the themes in iDVD and the general interface. Is there an app that would perhaps take slide show produced elsewhere (like ProShowGold, SWF n Slide) and produce a theme/menu list/background etc., Soundslides Plus)
I am burning at 1X speed, and Pro encoding.

I just did some recent test and iDVD '08 gave as high a quality images as any of the others (and was better than iPhoto or iMovie created slideshow movies). It's important to remember that the images on the DVDs we create are low res (640x480 square pixels for NTSC) which is only about 0.3 megapixels. They were designed to be viewed on 'old-fashioned' CRT TV sets which have that same resolution. Viewing such a slideshow full screen on a computer monitor with 4 to 8 times more pixels is less than optimum.
I am burning at 1X speed, and Pro encoding.
Under 4 x is good. Pro encoding is a waste of time for such slideshows- you would get the best quality using 'Best Performance'.
If you ONLY want to view your slideshow on your computer - and NOT on a TV set - there are better, more high-resolution approaches you can take than using iDVD.
