Best smcFanControl settings for me

Hey guys!
Could someone help out with the best smcFanControl settings to use on my 27" iMac i7 , now keep in mind i am from the uk! lol, the best outside temp i get is 28 degress on a good day! lol , oh and its coming into winter! i will post a link of what i am using at the moment.
WZZZ i had a look at your thread and the only difference i see is that the mazimum CPU speed smcFanControl will allow me is 2100 , i just want to keep it that extra bit cool . Any help would be great!
I am using
ODD - 1229
HDD - 1340
CPU - 1109
my temps surfing the net for say 30 min are
HD 34
CPU 28
Ambient 12
GPU diode 40
GPU heatsink 37
MEM Controller 33
optical drive 30
Power Supply 41

I agree with Lex. With those temps, which are quite low, you can probably stay at the defaults. At least experiment using the defaults to see if the temps remain in that low range. No need to go above the defaults if things remain that cool. I hardly ever run higher than my "minimum" setting. This increases the drive fan, for example, by 292 rpms above the defaults. Occasionally, if it's really hot here, I might go up to the "hot" setting, which is about 400 rpms above the default for the drive. During the winter, I'm usually at the defaults or, possibly, at my "minimum minus" setting, which is 227 rpms above the defaults, for the drive.
I constantly monitor the HD and CPU temps from iStat Menus, which displays them directly in the Menubar.
My settings are based, starting with the defaults, on raising all three fan rpms incrementally by approx 15-20%. These are based on the defaults of my 21.5, which has faster defaults than the 27, I believe. The 27, with bigger fan blades, idles the fans a bit lower to get the same air flow. I don't know what the exact idling rpms are for the 27, but your first setting should be about 15-20% above whatever those are, for each of the three fans. Next setting is approx 15-20% of the previous setting and so on.
You will find it's impossible to set the sliders for an exact figure.
My "hottest" setting is at approx 2K, but I never need to use it or the "hotter" setting. If it gets that hot, as it did during a searing heat wave we had a few weeks ago -- it was 110F outside and in the low 90s inside -- I just sleep the computer. No amount of blowing air around is going to help much when it's like that.
When I feel the back of the computer getting kind of warm -- and I often run without it during the winter -- I turn on the fan behind. It is a small clip-on fan mounted to the wall on a bracket to avoid vibration, with the blades only about 6" away from the back. It is aimed upwards, mainly at the upper left corner, as you face the screen, where it gets the hottest. The aiming upwards is to minimize the air flow under the computer, so as to reduce dust collecting at the bottom air intake. If it were not aimed upwards, most of the air flow would be striking around the middle of the back.

  • What are the best optimization settings for Logic 9....

    Hey guys,
I am running Logic 9 on a Macbook Pro 2.53GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, OSX 10.6.4, with a AK1 soundcard. And I was wondering what the best optimization settings for this setup are?
I have been having a few issues with drop outs in sound during playback, which is also carried over when i bounce the audio. I did some research and found my latency settings needed to be higher, so I set the I/O buffer size to 512. I am also running all samples from the local hdd, I was thinking maybe put the samples on an external drive. I also changed Logic 9 to 64bit mode.
Does anyone know if this is right and anything else I need to do with Logic and/or the AK1??

First, return to 32-bit mode. 64 bit still has some ß-issues and some features that are not working/disabled, and the only perk of 64-bit is that Logic can adress more than 4 GB RAM, which you don't have anyway.
Samples on the startup drive is not a problem, unless you start using really big third party sample libraries, or zillions of EXS instruments. Some of the Logic content insists on residing on the startup disk anyway, better leave that where it is.
If you have an external, use that to store your Logic projects, or, in other words, make it your recording disk (as recordings are stored in the project folder). You do record audio too, I assume? Anyway, if you get an external, make it a FireWire one, not USB. FireWire is much easier on the CPU, and +for audio (and sample-) streaming+ more reliable and faster than USB.
If dropouts you hear during playback also show up in the (offline?) bounce, it is probably not a buffer issue, as the buffer is irrelevant for bouncing offline.
So how many tracks and what kind of tracks in this project? Which plugins and how many instances of them?

  • What are the best export settings for a HD video in Premier Pro CS4?

    Hi!
I've been having so much trouble with this issue and it's something that continually frustrates my boss. I have a HD video the settings for it are
    FPS 23.98
    1920 x 1080, then a few lines down it says 1408 x 792
    16 bit,
    2 channels
    48000 Hz
What should the settings be when I make a new sequence?
When I look at it in the window in Premiere Pro I have to contantly 'shrink' the image to fit the window, is that something I should be doing or does it indicate the sequence settings are incorrect?
But more importantly what should the export settings be? I exported a 4 minute long video and the size was 1 GB, I know that's too big.
I need to export it without loosing any quality and export another one that meets the Youtube and Vimeo limits on size.
Vimeo is 500 MB per week, sometimes I upload 4 videos per week. I think Youtube you can only upload 500 MB at a time.
I need to get smaller sizes with loosing the least amount of quality possible AND the best export settings for quality, so I guess I have 3 separate questions-
What are the best sequence settings for HD video?
What are the best export settings for HD without loosing any quality?
What are the best export settings for the size to come out around 500 MB with loosing the least amount of quality possible?
    Thank You!

On the above thread I used the 5th anwer, and it's going to take about 7 hours to export a 4 minute video :/

    It Stands for "Coder Decoder."
Your format is like a container for your video file. Certain containers can hold certain codecs and not others. Other containers can hold other codecs. Sometimes different containers can hold the same codecs.
This might be a bad analogy but I'll give it a try.
A coffe cup (container) can hold pretty much any liquid you drink, where a red solo cup (container) won't hold scolding water. So, the coffe cup would be your container of choice most likely because it has the most options for liquids (codecs). But, you might want a red solo cup for just a single crappy beer at a party (a moderate quality streaming video on the web). In that case, you don't need all the optoins of another container.
In Premiere Pro CC H.264 is a Container and the Codec in one option. This has been streamlined for web distrobution of video to be played in browsers without things like Flash or special players.
Were as if you choose the QuickTime Container there are over 40 codec optoins (at least on my machine with additinal ones installed) but you may run into an issue where your browser doesn't support QuickTime playback.
I would say that your container is for compatability with players and your codec is taken into consideration when looking at the quality of the compression.
Yesteraday I wrote a blog entery on Exporting from Premiere Pro and found that the MPEG-4 codec inside of the QuickTime container gave me much richer colors than the H.264 container/codec option.

  • Best export settings for video for web

Can anyone give me some advice on the best export settings for a short video that is to be viewed on the web? I have some short, say 2 minute videos that need to be placed on a website and need a reasonable file size. What would the best Format and Preset options be in Premiere? Would it be helpful to utilize After Effects to reduce file size? Thank you in advance to anyone who has some advice!!

For now, it would be on my own website or a clients website. But there may
be another possibility, I have a client that already has some videos
available for viewing on their website, looks like they are YouTube videos
that play on their site, and there is an option to "Watch on YouTube". So I
guess I would love some recommended export settings for a straightforward
video clip on my website, and if I need to explore the YouTube preset in
Premiere, let me know. Thank you, I really appreciate your answers and
    help!!

  • Best export settings for HD video playback on computer?

I have shot my video on 1080p witha DSLR and edited it in premiere pro. I exported the video in .mp4 format.
Now i imported the video in after effects and added loads of animation. I want to export it to the best quality for playback ON COMPUTER ONLY. Which is the best export settings for this purpose.
I rendered it in .avi and my 12 minute video had a size of 55GB after render and did not play smoothly in the computer.. PLEASE HELP WITH THE BEST SETTINGS for the above purpose.

You messed up. You should NOT have rendered MP4 out of Premiere to use in AE. You're adding compression and quality loss in between stages. BAD video person!
The easiest thing to do would be to import your Premiere project in AE. That way it can use the original footage too. If, for some reason, you can't do that, you should render a lossless file out of Premiere. Speaking of lossless files, that's what you rendered out of AE. This page explains your large AE file issue.
Anyway, take that large file you render out of AE into the Adobe Media Encoder and render out your final compressed file. Either H.264 or WMV should work well for playback.

Which is best color settings for different document formats with the same color profile?
There are Tiff and Pdf documents with same color profile but look different.
    Thanks!

Bridge is file browser with custom preview options, but it's not a pre-press examination application. Just don't use it for that purpose.
P.S. First one is the best as far as I see. I don't like ruined «A» in second example. If you want to get more ballance, you can shift the left side also a bit.

  • Best Video Settings For The iPad.

    Hi everyone,
Does anyone know this ? "Best Video Settings For The iPad".
Kindly and in simple terms state the best possible settings to be use when converting videos for the iPad that optimizes the entire screen size/ area without a black borderline around your video. it's rather frustrating to have many technical jargons online without anyone giving real pointers at real values in conversion settings.
    Thanks in anticipation.

Kindly and in simple terms state the best possible settings to be use when converting videos for the iPad that optimizes the entire screen size/ area without a black borderline around your video.
It is impossible to answer your question without knowing both the aspect ratio of the source file and your personal preferences for displaying it on a 4:3 iPad screen.
Basically, you have two options here when converting files of one aspect ratio for display on a screen of another aspect. You can distort the original display to "fill" the ipad screen. (E.g., you can make a widescreen movie exactly fill your iPad screen but then people and objects will look tall and skinny.) The other option is to convert at the original aspect ratio and simply use the iPad "zoom" option to force your widescreen movie to fill your 4:3 screen by scaling the height of your movie to fill the screen and allowing the left and right edges of you movie to be cropped from your view. You have no other choices here other than living with the defaulted black areas.

  • For my power shot S5IS, best camera settings for 4 X 6 prints?

for my power shot S5IS, best camera settings for 4 X 6 prints? I would like to have the best setting so when i print out the photos,i do not need to crop or trim. It is close, but i feel it can be better.

The bad news is that you can't do anything in camera to get that result. The good news is that once you understand the possibilities you'll appreciate being able to control how your prints get framed (cropped). Your camera produces images in a 3:4 ratio while a 4 X 6 is a 2:3 ratio so if you don't know in advance that you need to crop some from the top, bottom, or both to make your image fit the 2:3 ratio & frame too tightly when taking the photo you're in trouble. Learn to shoot in a way that allows cropping to match common print sizes, and find a simple editing program to crop in computer. This should be standard practice because even though you may want a 4 X 6 now down the road you might want a 5 X 7 so keep your options open.
If you don't have an editing program that easily does this & you're on a PC download Picasa which is an excellent program for this & it's free. Once you have it running select one of your existing photos, select "crop" from the menues on the first tab & then play around with the different options Picasa has built in to see the effects to your image. NOTE that it won't throw away the data outside the crop box even though it may look like it has. You always have the option to "undo crop". Once you get a result you like you "export"  & create a new file cropped as seen on screen WITHOUT modifying the original file.

  • Best export settings for DNxHD?

    Hey guys,
I'm working with R3D files (4KHD) in CS6 and need to export them for grading/editing in DNxHD at 1080p. Any tips on the best export settings for this?
Also - is it necessary to downconvert the 4KHD in some way to 1080p before the export process? The files I'm ending up with are a noticeably poorer quality than the original; I'm not sure if this is due to an error I've made during the conversion or if its a natural part of using the codec?

  • What are the best sequence settings for a movie to be put on youtube?

I am making a video that consists of mainly jpegs and audio. The final movie needs to be crisp and fairly high resolution because the pictures have some house plans that need to be easily read.
I have tried the following settings only to get a blurry image result in the end:
Frame Size: 960x720 Aspect Ratio: HD (960x720) (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC - CCIR 601 DV 720X480
    Editing Timebase: 29.97
    Quicktime Video Settings:
    Compressor DVCPRO50 - NTSC
    Quality: 100%
This seems to me like it should be a crisp enough image result but the end result is very poor. When I use the H.264 Compressor instead of DVCPRO50 - NTSC, the image is much sharper but the faded transitions are sometimes choppy, and you have to render the timeline with each change you make. Please help me find the best overall settings for smooth editing and sharper image.
    Thanks,
    Caleb

Your settings -- between the Compressor, Pixel Aspect Ratio and Frame Size -- are oil-and-water.
If this is going to YouTube (meaning not going to be viewed on traditional TVs) and it's mainly Photos, try using this:
    Frame Size: 1280x720
    Aspect Ratio: HDTV 720p
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
    Editing Timebase: 29.97
    Compressor: Motion JPEG A
Quality: 100% (though in a lot of cases, you could drag this down to about 75-80% and quality will not suffer)
Unfortunately, you won't get much (if any) real-time effects. Unless, of course, you're on FCP 6 or later, where you can use a ProRes compressor instead. But with your signature saying 10.4. something, I wasn't sure if it was safe to assume that. The Motion-JPEG setting should work in all versions.
