Best SOP Model for MRO Type Industry?

Hello all,
At the company I work for, we currently utilize SAP's SOP module for flexible planning of roughly 200,000+ MRO materials.  SAP comes standard with 18 or so forecast models out of the box that can be used to determine the best forecast of materials.  We are currently doing some analysis around what the best model is as a result of seeing our current forecast strategy, (Seasonal trend based on the Winters method,) working for us but doesn't pick up trends very well leading to a lot of forecast corrections.
Question to the group.  In an industry that has a lot of volitility of it's materials demand over periods, what model have you used to help pick up trends over short periods of time?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
Are you using S&OP on HANA or SOP in ECC - PP. ?

  • What's the best authentication model for a PRO*C process?

We presently have a system where 5 or so PRO*C-based processes on remote nodes (HP OpenVMS) connect to a database (RH Linux) using Oracle Client and insert data. The current authentication method is for the C based program to read a connection string from a file and use that string to connect via an embedded sqlplus call.
This works fine, however having the string contained in a file isn't all that great an idea, even with the protection we give it. It would be easy for a programmer to recompile & debug the process and read the string, so it's not really all that secure. It also just doesn't seem the best way to do this....
I know this isn't much information to go on, but can anyone suggest a better model for this scenario that avoids putting connection strings and passwords in a file?
    Thanks in advance

    thanks for your helpfull evaluation.

  • Best networking model for a java network application

    Hi all,
I am in need of a decision regards the network technology used for a CRM.
I am thinking about JAX-RPC to build network model for the system.I'll concider functianality details after deciding the network model.
Which'll be better?.JAX-RPC?.i did'nt used it before. How good is that technology for a client-server CRM which need frequent remote method calls?.
    What about using servlets?.
My requirement is i'll make XML documents from client and send to the server and server parse the XML file then make necessory method calls and return another XML data to the client.
I cant use a database server for network functioning.Because the application should run in internet also.So installing a client-server database and only writing client application will not work.
My application should work equally in internet and local network.
So which technology can i implement for better results?.
    What about servlets?.
Servlets can take inputs as web forms. But can servlets work with XML inputs with a swing client(no browser)?.
What'll be the best technology without EJB?.Becoz only Tomcat can be used for deployment.
Plz anyone suggest a good opinion.
    What'll the best for me?.

Many thanks for your efforts, but i already know all what you hav said. Then you should be in fine shape for starting this project.
But what i need is good insights. You hav told me that
"start the project and you'll get" .OK.But after doing
a lot of projects,Onething i know is getting as much
insights towards a project will help always.Because
there maybe issues that we dont concider or some
better patterns.I can't help you based on what you've posted so far. You're talking about gathering good requirements and doing a detailed analysis and design. That's not what this forum is for. You should be doing that with your customers and teammates.
    And i'll be using JDOM.Coz it's quite easy.Very good.
    But some more insights??.
I need insights in areas like,
When XML file reach to controller servlet,It should
dispatch the XML file to many javabean classes
according to it's purpose.Do you spot anything
there?.I don't know what those Bean classes will be doing with the XML, so it's hard to say.
If you're looking to create an XML message broker, where clients send XML requests to be dispatched and then get the response back, you might be talking about an asynchronous application with JMS and queues. That's very different from a servlet, but then I don't know much about what you're really trying to do.
In either case, whether you use a queue or a servlet, you'll have to think about how you'll go about routing a message. You'll have to figure out how to recognize and associate a particular XML message with the right Java Bean or destination.
any suggestiens for creating XML files?.Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and create them. No magic here.
I already thank to you for ur opinions. But plz take care on these small issues also if u done such
apps.Lets learn more together so we can make applications very very fast with good insights in
small deeper areas.I don't mean to be rude, but I can't do any detailed analysis and design with you. That's up to you, your customer, and your teammates.

  • Student Help advice! what is best iMac model for Final Cut Pro and logic pro

    Hi
I am currently looking into getting a iMac, but is toggling to device if I need a 27inch or a 21inch(top model),which will be used for Final Cut Pro and logic
There is a lot of money being invested iMac, and I really not want to be stu k with a computer that not going to keep up with the amount of work load in the future.
The specs that I have on mine are..
    21inch
    Upgrades include
    Sdd drive 512gb
    Intel core i7
    16gb of ram
    Or
    27 inch
    Upgrades
    Fusion drive or sdd 250gb
    Intel core i7
    (Possible graphic card) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5 [+ £105.60]
(Ram is way to expensive so will buy from second party)
Anyone who has brought a iMac for final cut or logic what would you likely buy?..Am really stuck on the hard drives between the 27inch fusion and 512gb on the 21inch
    My budget is £1900
My fear is that the 21inch top model's graphic card may not be good enough for advance editing on Final Cut Pro In the future when I start to get more deep into editing..logic really only needs 8gb to run smoothly..buts its the final cut specs that am having problems deciding. I know iMacs are not future proof or technology lasts for that matter, but I do expect to have it run good for a number of years before I upgrade again.
If anyone can give me some advice, or even tell me about there set up they have for media work please let me know.

All kinds of things affect system & HD performance, I can't tell you why your 4 year old Mac is slow.  Just because your old Mac is slow doesn't mean that a new iMac will be equally slow.
You are correct about the issue with the smaller fusion drives.  It's one of the reasons I am not high on recommending them.  Everyone thinks they want power & performance but don't understand the gap between marketing and real life performance.  The 1TB fusion drive however should give you a good combination of rapid access and sizeable storage capacity.
I have used external FW800 / 7200rpm drives for years and have never had a problem with any of them.  I consider them very reliable but admittedly I DO NOT use consumer drives like the WD MyBook that the big-box stores sell.   For the most part I assemble my own with OWC Mercury Elite enclosures.  In the past few years I have centered on WD Caviar Black and WD Scorpio Black drives.  I also have some Seagate Barracuda 7200.xx drives.  They all perform excellently and reliably.
Pls. refer to my earlier post for what i recommended to you.

  • Best export settings for Kiosk type presentation.

I have 24 slides that I would like to begin playing automatically and loop.
What is the best export settings in Quicktime.... manual? or would that require a click?
I have set all the transition in and out timings on each slide.
    Thank you.

For now, it would be on my own website or a clients website. But there may
be another possibility, I have a client that already has some videos

guess I would love some recommended export settings for a straightforward

  • Best PC specification for Large Pivot tables

    Hi there
I currently have a 6 month old Dell Vostro 470 with Intel Core i7 quad processor 3.4ghz processor and 8gb SDram, 2tb hard drive and 1gb graphics card.  I run Office 2010, but 99% of my work is in Excel and specifically Pivot Tables.
I run large Excel spread sheets typically size around 200-300mb built around a data sheet that may have up the 1m row limit and 200 columns.  A quick glance shows that I have 1000mb files (what is that 1gb?, 1m kb if I have that right) which seem to open
quite quickly, less than a minute, but on all my large files I do have issues around crashes, being able to refresh the pivot.
Typically I may have 20 worksheets in a workbook  all relating to the same source data sheet, which may be in the same workbook or in a separate workbook on the same pc.
I have two queries.  Where best to go for advice on the best PC spec for my type of work (if not here)?  and specific advice realting to a purchase.  I am contemplating a dell Optiflex and wondering if a 32gb SD RAM memory will give worthwhile
extra performance against the 8gb that I have now and whether Dell has better processors that might suit me better.
I do find that on current Vostro 470 system with my 8gb quad processor, an Excel spread sheet will stop working when it exceeds a little more than 1.5gb memory according to task manager (How does that relate to 8gb of SDRAM?).
Often I have a number of workbooks open to enable the pivots to refresh. Usually it just says insufficient resource.  I have found it useful to have the Pivot source data as a CSV file to reduce size, but I still find myself constantly having to adapt
some spread sheets so that if the pivot source data file is only 500,000 rows then sometimes I have to limit the Pivot source to that number (rather then 1m) which is difficult if the size increases next time I need to refresh the pivots.
So I have these issues around the ability to update (refresh) Pivot tables, the size of workbooks I can open and to a degree the speed that my pc will calculate, even though I often have to work with worksheets that do not recalculate automatically ie I turn off
automatic updates, so that it works efficiently.
    2 KEY QUESTIONS:
    ·         Where best to go for advice on how to manage large data sheets/ pivot tables?
    ·         What spec of pc to go for optimum efficiency of my Excel/ pivot table needs?
I SPENT JUST LESS THAN £1,000 with Dell on my last Dell Vostro 470 (including Office 2010).
    ·         Should I go for a Dell Optiflex and pay extra £400 to get 32gb SDRAM and could I spend even more to improve my work efficiency?
    ·         How  fast are the fastest Processors and can I improve much on what I have with my Dell Vostro 470
    ·         Are there any other PC's out there I should be considering?
    ·         I sometimes get messages like insufficient resources to display correctly.
Do I need a better graphics card?
Sorry this posting is so long.  If you have been, thanks for reading
Not quite sure which forum to go for, so advice especially appreciated.
    Jesper

My thanks for that.  I would be very pleased if there was a solution.
I am in fact running 64bit Win7 Professional but my pre-installed Office 2010 is 32bit.  Does that sound strange?   I really don't know much about 32bit and 64 bit.
Would I have to purchase an entirely new copy of 64bit to get the memory benefits of which you speak? I'm assuming that if so I would would have to buy Office 64bit, rather than just buy a copy of Excel 2010 or 2013 64 bit?
    Many thanks for you help.
As a secondary question, it seems on investigation, that my processor is one of the best around.  Could you advise?

    and in PFCG transaction
Could you help me to solve this point?
    Kind regards,
    Heri RAOELISON

    Hi Heri,
the system behavior is correct. The account in company code consists of three entity types:
    1) COA - Chart of Accounts (Type 3)
    2) ACCOUNT - Account (A-Segment, related to ECC table SKA1, Type 1)
    3) ACCCCDET - Account in Company Code (B-Segment, releated to ECC table SKB1, Type 1).
    3) includes 1) and 2) whereas 2) includes 1). If you grant authorization only for 3) but not for 1) and 2), you cannot do anything.
    Best regards

  • High level process model for a Pulp & Paper Industry

    Hi:
Someone can help me?, i'm looking for a organizational reference model for a pulp & paper company, under the alignment for best practices in to SAP R/3
I need know what is the best model for this kind company (chain value, macro process, business process, sub process...)
    Thanks in advance
    Omar Perea

    hi,
    thanks for yor points.
at that time it was opened.for me also it was warning  the same, any way iam providing some more info on it. pls have a look on it.
Pulp and paper industry facing IT modernisation needs
Today most pulp and paper industry companies face serious financial challenges to increase return on investment and improve capital utilisation.
Companies are working to improve the efficiency of their supply chains and thereby reduce working capital, increase transaction velocity and improve inventory turnover. Mergers, acquisitions and alliances are reshaping the pulp and paper industry. Although the pulp and paper industry has invested heavily in IT systems, a large variety of old systems is often complex, inflexible in regard to integration and difficult to operate. As they reflect past organisations and business models, the streamlining of business processes is difficult.
Mega trends in the pulp and paper industry IT.
The pulp and paper industry is stepping into a new phase of business evolution driven by consolidation of industry, globalisation and ever-increasing competition. These market drivers are forcing the pulp and paper industry to put a greater focus on cost efficiency. These focuses are creating totally new challenges for the organisation, specifically in the IT area.
IT is increasingly becoming a commodity. This is a result of product standardisation and the popularity of off-the-shelf-products that facilitate the economies of scale. This phenomenon is also supported by increasing utilisation of competence resources in low-cost countries.
Managing change becomes more and more difficult. Very often companies face the need for new changes before they have seen the benefits of the previous ones. The cycle of change is short and the transformation environment becomes very complicated. On the other hand, IT becomes the tool in forcing business changes to happen. Often the only practical way to roll out new processes and practices is through the modernisation of information systems.
Like many other industries, the pulp and paper industry is concentrating on providing digitalised self-services as part of their business development.
    Industry background
Since the consolidation and globalisation of the pulp and paper industry, there has been increasing pressure to continuously improve both its internal and external efficiency. In the large pulp and paper mills, production management systems typically consist of several different systems, which might also be from different suppliers. Systems are often isolated islands, which are successful in managing information of their own area but they lack the comprehensive information exploiting and sharing. This has resulted in a complex and inflexible architecture of legacy systems. These legacy systems are expensive to manage and difficult to develop to meet business requirements.
This pressure has led to massive IT investments and a continuous rebuild of the IT environments in order to meet efficiency challenges. Although many pulp and paper mills have invested a lot in building up their business supporting IT, especially Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, the return on investment is often difficult to measure. There is a lot of potential to improve usability of systems by harmonising business processes and integrating the systems more efficiently in order to better support actual business needs.
Most pulp and paper industry companies have thus come to a point where a more radical rebuild and renewal of the entire IT and network environment is required. Fortunately, the conditions for this have improved over the last few years, due largely to an increasing range of commercially available application platforms adopted for the pulp and paper industry, the acceptance of common industry standards, and the evolution of refined integration and migration methods.
Renewing and harmonising the company’s operations and IT systems is still, however, a demanding undertaking. Securing continuous operations, while at the same time replacing the core systems and processes, requires a high level of expertise in pulp and paper industry processes and information technology. To complement the in-house competence, the pulp and paper industry will need to establish partnerships with outside solution providers and system integrators. To minimise risks and keep control of business-critical technology, new delivery models will be a necessity.

  • Too many recipients found for message type ORDERS in the ALE model

    Hi all ,
please help me to solve this issue .
i done with ale settings .
orders message type is used in 2 different model view for 2 different systems
when i create po it is giving error in output  "Too many recipients found for message type ORDERS in the ALE model"
how can i rectify this error.
    Thanks

    > orders message type is used in 2 different model view for 2 different systems
do both of them carter diffrent needs or is it the same idoc which is being sent to diffrent systems?
if yes, then use a single model view with noth receiver systems defined in it.
if not, i would suggest, copying the standard idoc and create a zidoc and then use different ones for diffrent receivers....
or u can use diff versions of the orders message type...
say orders05 for one.... receiver and orders02 for another one....
    hope this helps!!
    Cheers!!

  • Too many recipients found for message type (Distribution model)

    Hi,
I wanna send Dilvery note using message type DESADV from a SAP system to another non-SAP System.
I have Created port partner profile and distribution model.
But the Problem is the same message type DESADV is used to send Dilvery from SAP System to another SAP Client.
Idoc getting failed and throwing error stating ‘Too many recipients found for message type DESADV in the ALE model ‘.
I am sure we can create the more than one recipients for same message types. I have done it some time back. Any help highly appreciated.
    Regards
    Raj

This message pops up when SAP can't identify how to distribute the IDoc based on the settings in BD64. Take a look at the settings there, most likely you'll need to add a filter.
The big ALE/EDI/IDoc book suggests that the same IDoc may be distributed to 2 different systems but specific details are not clear. It seems that one system should be configured first (it does mention a need to use a filter) and then somehow menu Edit -> Model View -> Distribute should be used.
I've never done it myself though and have only run into that error when I missed some filter settings in BD64. Hope this helps.

  • Too many recipients found for message type in the ALE model

    Hello Friends,
Please help me in solving this error. I have a Outbound sales order confirmation ORDRSP  .
In the distribution model i have defined the sender receiver and message type clearly...
But  in va01  after creating sales order  extras ->Output->Hearder --->Edit
    Output type-- BA00
    medium --ALE
    Dispatch time : Send Immediately
    I am getting a error -
Too many recipients found for message type ORDRSP in the ALE model
    Message no. B1130
    Diagnosis
In the ALE distribution customer model several recipient systems for IDOCs with message type ORDRSP and filter object type 'KUNNR' with value '100' have been modeled from this system, but only one recipient system is allowed.
    Procedure
Please change the ALE distribution customer model so that it allows only one recipient system for the message from this system.
Please help me in solving this error.
    Regards,
    jeevan

    Hi Jeevan,
In BD64, the said problem occurs, since the message type ORDRSP will be configured to different Logical System.
Since you are creating sales orders & Output type, system doesnt knows, to which Logical system, it has to be sent since the Message type exists more than once.
select Your respective Logical System where the Outbound Sales Order Confirmation ORDRSP has been created.
Under the node ORDRSP, add the filter group for Customer.
Double click the Filter group and add the respective Customer No.s to whom the Order confirmation needs to be sent.
Then create Sales Order Confirmation & Output type. Data will be passed(IDoc) to the respective Customer(where the customer no.) exist in the filter.
    Hope it solves your Issues.
    Regards,
    Anbalagan.
