Best soundcard for HD headphones
Hey guys! I was wondering if someone could advise me on a good setup for a desktop to which I connect high quality studio monitor headphones. I am looking to get the purest sound possible while listening to .flac files and it would be helpful if someone has achieved this already! Thanks a bunch.
Try a Soundblaster card.

What is the best soundcard for Linux?
What soundcard would you recommend to buy?
I was thinking that Audigy is best choice, but then I looked on ALSA website, and found out that most of Audigy is not supported or mostly unsupported (lack of capture?!).
Currently I use SB Live 1024, I want to have something better, without so much noise on inputs. At the moment, I use RCA cables to connect the sound card to my mixer (both in and out). From the mixer, I get sound through my headphones or a pair of studio monitors. I'm sure you've looked at the card online, but it's main output is an RCA connection. If you attach the extra cable, you get MIDI and S/PDIF connections. So if you are going to use regular computer speakers, you would need to get an adapter (RCA to 1/8" jack), which is what I used to use before adding the mixer.

Searching for best Soundcard for record
Hi,
I'm a Dj and I'm looking for the best card to record from vinyls. I'm looking for a card witch can record in 92 kHz but I'm not sure if the "Creative X-Fi Platinum Fatalty Champion Series" can do so.
Could anybody help meI found that the onboard sound was as good as my soundblaster audigy, so I took it out. I have two identical systems networked. One system is used as a jukebox/media station, so sound is important there.
I put the audigy in one & hooked up my Altec Lansing 880 speakers to each system. These are excellent speakers, by the way, so any degredation would be in the soundcard. There was none. So I pulled out the Audigy, & happily game & mp3. Then again, I'm using the 845E max2, so your onboard sound may be different. In which case, ASSAF is right, just disable onboard sound, networking, or whatever, & drop in your additions. -
I want to purchase a soundcard $30-$50 range that will allow me to have the headphones hooked up all the time, but allow me to mute the speakers when on the headphone. Most store sales people cannot answer the question. Do I want one the USB types? Thanks for any info.
Well, then you can directly plug it into your sound card. Most sound cards have a mic port.
If yours is the big one and cannot fit into the small jack, then you can very easily buy a converter for it.
If you need a sound card, and on a budget, then try Sound Blaster Li've 24 bit.
Otherwise, just go in full force and get Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS (don't bother getting anything in between, especially Audigy 2 Value.) -
Best Soundcard for KT3 Ultra ??
Hi
Can you give me your experiences of the most compatible sound cards for this motherboard.
I am having problems with my tv tuner card and my SB Live 5.1.
I never had these problems in my ECS K75SA.

In addition you can find numerous articles in this forum and on the web about the combination of VIA Chipsets and SB cards; it just appears that there is still an inherent risk in that combination. Problems some times - but not always - can be solved using Latency settings or patches ...
I recommend to look for other soundcards in case of VIA chipsets (unless you can arrange with your dealer that you may return the card in case of problems). There are, also according to my experience, several cards around which will at least match the quality of SB for the same price or less - just go out and use your ears.

Looking for a headphone solution editing surround
Looking for a headphone solution when editing suround environment in Soundtrack Pro 2. I have a Mac Pro. Is there any phones that would connect (direct or indirect) to the optical audio output, or do I need to buy a 5:1 speaker sound system with headphone jack?
Hey sorry for the late reply, I was busy to figure out alternatives as harman kardon was a difficult affair to find and acquire, but the good news is I managed to get hold of alternative.
Sony I assume recently launched a Bluetooth headphone DR-BTN200 which is compatible to my MacBook Air , iPad mini and android phone galaxy s2 with ease, the sound quality is pretty good as compared to other brands of Bluetooth headphones I checked compatible or incompatible to apple devices alike, this is definitely what I was looking for, costed me 7990 INR, this is highly recommended for ppl who are confused, I carried my devices to the store and checked before I bought a pair and pretty much happy,
The best part of this is its battery backup, I have used this hours for 3-5 days but this has not drain even then, but I do keep this charging once in 2-3 days just to keep this ready otherwise it does not even ask for it neither the quality of sound drops after 2-3 days of use.
This is over the ear headphone which is very soft but it's get sweaty around the ear I guess that's bound to happen.
Do get back to me for any other details, would be glad to share with all :) -
Best Settings for Audigy 2 ZS Recording Out to S-VHS or DVD Recor
I?m recording some very machine intensi've video & sound to outboard devices. I'm using these outboard devices so that the recording process itself does not impact the demonstration performance.
Concerning the sound out, I?m using the line & 2 out of the card, and running it through a pro level audio board (Mackie) for any adjustments & monitoring before taking the line out of the board into the recording device. When returning the sound for monitoring, I?m also running from the external device directly to the board and directly from there to either headphones or control room monitors. Thus, I?m using the Audigy for initial sound generation. So far, I've not really made any ajustments at the board other than level or balance. I like to keep things pretty flat in recording.
I?ve looked around for recommendations as to the best settings for the Audigy card from its internal software for this situation, but find no ready reference. My concern is that I have the ?hottest? signal from this device, while being very concerned with audio quality. I?m looking for both ?punch? and ?clarity? of signal.
Is there a document or source that would give me this direction? While I can move from this SB card to other more studio based cards, I?d like to keep the demo product in line with what the actual target audience would have in their machines, and be able to replicate at their workstation.
For example, does the card function best at 00% (0db) output, or 50% (-5db) output?
Or some setting in between...most likely...
Or, is there some other setting I?m not aware of?
I have what I believe are the latest card drivers and software suite, XP Pro, with every possible OS and other machine hardware update available.
Thanks,

I am desperately looking for a bluetooth headphone that would be compatible to my Macbook air and Ipad mini both. I am more of looking for a headphone that does not need a transmitter device to be connected to the source (in this case Macbook Air and Ipad Mini) and headphone acting as a receiver, rather need a headphone that would be connected directly via bluetooth to the source, it would be great if multiple apple devices be connected simultaneously. Please suggest some good headphones.

Hey guys,
just a query - i have an audigy 2 ZS currently, and a high end yamaha 7. amplifier.
what im wanting to do is connect this up via optical .. its currently connected via RCA and it seems to get confused as to which is the sub and which is the centre, despite me trying all combinations of cabling.
so i thought an optical wire from soundcard to amplifier would be the best way ?
i've read somewhere that if i do this, and play 2. audio (mp3s), my rear channel will be disabled ? surely thats not true ? - reason for saying this is i've seen home theatre setups where a CD player is hooked up to an amp via optical, and it still produces audio through the rear channels.
whats the best option to run this via optical ? do i need to purchase a new sound card ? if so, what is the best option for me ?
id rather quality than cheaping out on something that 'will do the job', but options are always welcome
mostly i listen to music with a bit of bass, i dont do a whole heap of gaming, so i guess music is the focus.
Thanks !ReaperZ,
The center is on the nominally-left-channel RCA, so the likely-red-coded, nominally-right-channel RCA is your subwoofer connector.
I don't have the same soundcard model, and I can't give you blow-by-blow detail, but try looking in the Bass Management tab of the Speaker Settings control, or you may find something in the THX Setup Console, for bass redirection. You should at least find subwoofer volume and crossover-frequency sliders, and you also might find a center volume control. I'm a proponent of running all soundcard volumes at 00% and controlling listening volume and speaker balance at the amp, since this maximizes the digital SNR, but it can also be less convenient.
Run through the receiver manual's troubleshooting section for "No sound from the center speaker" and "No sound from the subwoofer" just to rule out a setting problem on the receiver side.
Then use "Manually adjusting speaker levels" on pg 45 of the receiver manual, with? MULTI CH IN selected on the remote control, to max the SWFR level (+0dB). Most receivers have separate level settings for their multi-channel input, so it is usually advantageous to provide the +0dB boost this way so it is in effect only when using the soundcard. This boost can be increased further by lowering all of the other settings the same number of dB's: if you subtract dB from all of the others, the effect is to increase the relati've subwoofer volume by dB.
Try using this information and let us know what happens.

Best Settings for my Dv6-6117dx
I would like to know the best settings for my Laptop. This would be when I have my headphones in and off. I heard that the sound could be better and i would really appreciate if someone would tell me those settings so i would enjoy the music and other sounds that come out of this laptop
My settings appear to be the same and I've not had any problems with iPlayer yet.
1. Ditto
2. Ditto
3. Not sure what application you are referring to here, but within iPlayer when you click Options you do NOT get a "Settings" selection. Perhaps you can explain how you got to the "Web Access point" choice?
My connectivity settings are similar but my default (and priority 1) is my home Wi-Fi/WLAN. So I would think that whenever iPlayer is downloading stuff, it is doing it through my home Wi-Fi.
And, yes, I also always get the "Allow connection to network" question when I select a programme to watch on iPlayer. Not a problem: takes one click to say yes. -
Best settings for music collection
Best settings for keeping your Itunes music collection nice and organized? I dont like the setting that has 2 sets of folders and 1 of them all folders are empty.
Depending on how good your headphones are and how good your hearing is different settings will yield acceptable results. The old, years ago, MP3 setting was always 128k. This is generally a decent compromise between file size and audio quality.
If all devices are iPods the you can get slightly better audio with same size files by using AAC format set to 160k. -
Is there any webpage that gives the best settings for each of the modes for specific purposes?
For example, I use the HD555s and I mostly play cs .6. What would be the best settings for .6? Especially for the best positional sound? There's not that much to it, really. Just put it into 'Game' mode, turn the Crystalizer on if you like it (use 50% or you risk distortion), and enjoy. Having 'Game' mode enabled will let the card use EAX 5 whenever it's available, as well as fully accelerate the sound; the other modes stick on something like EAX 3.
There is CMSS, which manipulates the sounds to try and emulate how your ear affects the characteristics of sound coming from different directions (if you run a fast tap and listen to it with your head looking in different directions you should notice the pitch changes slightly -- CMSS tries to do this).
Only problem is that the CMSS technology isn't perfect, as everyone's ear is slightly different and your brain is used to how your ear changes the sound depending on direction. CMSS can only guess, so while it's close your brain may very well spot the imperfections and ruin the effect. Also, CMSS lowers sound quality which may be painful on your relati'vely high-end HD555 headphones. I choose to disable it.
One tip though, if you don't use CMSS then use two speaker mode rather than headphones. The headphone mode messes with the sound slightly (including the volume) but is more designed to make your bog standard cheap headphones sound good, rather than high-end ones that deli'ver speaker quality like yours.
Other than that, not much more to know. If you're feeling brave you could go to the Equalizer (EQ) and try dragging some of those sliders around. The left slider is the deepest sounds, and the right slider is the highest; the ones in-between obviously go from deep to high. I use this:
[img"]http://serve.ryanjohnwilliams.com/images/x_fi_equalizer.jpg">
It's best to work incrementally from the inside out, so start in the middle and then drag each slider up a little. Working up the right hand side will make the sound crisper, while the left hand side will bring out the explosions and gunshots. You could just use my settings and then perhaps tone some of them up/down to taste (since I use different headphones/speakers). EQ is essentially just a more complex bass/treble (or rather, bass/treble is a simplified EQ), but the added control can really let you get the card working perfectly with your headphones/speakers.
