Best sources for learning digital scrapbooking?

I am interested in learning more about digital scrapbooking using PSE7.  I'd like to print them using Shutterfly. I've looked all over the internet and am now confused where to start. I need to start with BASICS!  I'd love to find a message board where people exchange ideas.  Thanks for any ideas you have!

Once you get the hang of digital scrapping, you are going to become a collector of great digital kits and elements. My advice to people just starting out is top get organized *before* you accumulate a lot of stuff. And beleive me, you will! If you are using PSE ther eis Organizer built in, but I founf that to slow my computer down a bit. Other scrappers use Picasa. I use ACDSee Photo Manager and I find that one to be the easiest and the best.
If you google "digital freebies" you'll find some great stuff out there. Also, Digital Scrapbook Place is a great site for tutorials.
Have fun!

  • Good source for learning - SQL Stored Proceedures using Dreamweaver

I am looking for a good source for learning how to integrate
    Stored
    Proceedures using Dreamweaver?
Is there a book or something online?
    Thanks

    Hey Lee,
You find yourself in that position, I find myself in that
    position, every
damn developer/programer in the world find themselves in that
    position. It
may be on different levels, but everyones in the same boat.
Here is my suggestion. Take the existing knowledge you have,
    pick a
technology that is a bit more futureproof (if the one you
    have is getting
outdated) and one that isn't too far removed from the one you
    know and put
it all into that one area.
Databases are really important if you want to be a decent web
    developer. If
you're serious and want to be good then devote time to a
    particular database
and get to know it well. I would suggest SQL Server. You
    don't have to be
DBA standard but get as much knowledge on it as you can.
    Never underestimate
    your required knowledge of databases.
Set yourself goals. Say to yourself "In 6 months I want to be
    a proficient
developer in this language" and go for it. Don't get
    side-tracked into
something else just keep focused on one area and get good at
    it. Yes, that
language will become outdated in time but you will be all the
    more ready to
take on the next because of your past experiences.
I try to look at it like this; It is better to a master of
    one technology
and know enough to get by in others than a Jack of all
    technologies but a
    master of none.

  • What are the best resources for learning JSP?

In your experience, what have been the best resources for learning JSP? I am new to this, and so far have been plugging away at a "Dummies" book. Hopefully there are other inexpensive ways (I checked the book out at the library), to learn it, and possibly even less boring (though I doubt it). I can deal with the boring, but I was wondering if I was going about learning it the best way.

  • More sources for learning about Aperture

I need to decide if I should continue using Aperture or not (10 days left on my trail) and I would like to know what sources there is for learning more about Aperture. I've looked at the videos that are available at Apples sites but are there other sources that I could use?
Yes, I know about the manual but I usually learn faster with examples.

I would say that one of the best instruction for Aperture is Derrick Story and Scott Bourne at Lynda.com http://movielibrary.lynda.com . There is a cost of 25$ a month for Lynda.com but its all you can eat with no ads.I feel it was more then worth it and if there is know other training you can just quet. It will allow your to hit the ground running.

  • Best Training for learning Java

I've looked online, I've watched a couple videos, I've gotten books from the library, but I'm not sure if I'm truly learning the language.
I'm understanding a lot of the basics to Java, but where is the absolute #1 resource for learning Java? I want to be able to create some java games later on, but I'm trying to figure out where the best place to learn and understand the whole complete java language. I want to be able to understand it inside and out and I'm just having trouble finding where to learn the language.

Also, I looked into the "Thinking in Java" and found it at my library, but it was published in 2000, and I'm wondering how much of java has changed, or if that book would still help me out at all if it was published almost 8 years ago. Does it still have useful information and concepts that will help you? Absolutely! Realize that you aren't going to be studying this in a vacuum. You should also be learning from online sites, the forum, and perhaps other books. If you really learn the core concepts of Java and learn them well, getting up to date with the latest bells-and-whistles will be quite easy. Not to mention that a lot of employers don't always use the latest version of Java anyway. I work for a bank, and we're still using the 1.4 JDK...

  • Dock for W530 - Best source for purchasing 5 of them

After much deliberation (and my boss telling me we are only allowed to get Lenovo's), we've decided on the W530 for our next laptop in the Systems department where I work. I found a great deal on a W530 with upgraded CPU and the nice 1080p screen for under $1250 new (cdw.com), which was great because my company doesn't want to spend over $1300 on laptops.
However, the dock is hard to find. I can't find any legit sources for it. There is only one dock we're considering, which is described as:
Lenovo 433835U ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 - 170W
It's not available from any of our usual sources, so my question is: What is the best source to get these?
Two sources I've found for them are:
    http://www.thinkpad-parts.com/433835U-Thinkpad.html
    http://www.iportreplicator.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=100&product_id=53
I'm curious if others have ordered from these sites and what kind of experiences have you had. Or perhaps someone knows a better source to get the dock. I need it to be around $300 or less, new or refurb but not used. Thanks!

The docks are very expensive. I just spent some time looking for one. I have never bought anything from either supplier you list so I cannot comment. I ended up getting a used one without a power supply and getting the power supplier somewhere else. You need to make sure it has the connector to fit the 170W AC adapter.  Sometimes, the line between used and refurbished is not clear; the most important thing is that you can return it if it is defective, whether it is new, refurbished or used

  • Your Best Source For More Loops?

Looking for a good source for more loops. There are a bunch of sites out there but would like to find one where:
    - Garageband Compatible Loops
    - Can demo a good sampling of loops in a package
I don't want to just buy 200MB of random loops, I'd like to listen to some of them first.
Where is your favorite source for more loops?

    John:
Those NewerTech's are supposed to be pretty good. I bought a BTI battery from Fry's last summer. So far, I'm getting about 5-6hrs out of it, doing word processing and internet surfing. Can't complain, since it was fairly cheap ($100).
OWC is selling the Newertech and is giving a $19 rebate for sending in a dead battery. See here:
    OWC
Here's a couple of other places selling batteries:
    Ebatts
    Mac-Pro
Lastly, here's someone who tricked a 'dead' battery into some life again by doing an open firmware reset:

  • What is the best source for a novice to learn photo management?

As an X brand X user I don't find "photos" intuitive. I have photos from my iPhone4s, iPad 2, a digital camera, and downloaded from different sources. These 500 or so photos are stored on my iPhone 4s, my iPad, my MacBook Air and in iCloud. Everything is connected and synced by iCloud, Bluetooth, and sometimes even by good old fashioned wire. I now have two or more duplicates of some pictures on one or more of the devices most of the time, I think. The icing on the big messy cake is when I try to show a photo and can't find it.
I think my problem has become so compounded that no one manual will explain what I've created or how to untangle it.
    Anyone?

if you're displaying video in flash, you should use flv or f4v files.

  • What is the best source to learn and advice to get Oracle 12c (OCA) certificate???

    Hi there,
I hope all are running good.
Actually, I'm a new in a Oracle career but I know all concepts of Databases and SQL.
I'm planning to take a Oracle 12c (1Z0-061) (SQL Fundamentals) exam to achieve 12c OCA certificate but I'm bit confused in what source is best to learn it by self and what are tips to pass those all exam to lead me OCA certificate. Please, kindly provide your valuable opinions. Look forward to hearing your replies.
    Thanks

The Oracle Press exam guide for 1Z0-061 is written, though of course there is all sorts of production stuff still to go. The 1Z0-062 guide (a lot longer!) is done except for the last two chapters. So both should be out in the near future. I know this because my buddy Roopesh is writing 1Z0-061, and I'm writing 1Z0-062. Bob Bryla's 1Z0-063 guide is bit later, the exam isn't in beta yet.
As Philippe says, the OCA is not simple this time. Of course I can't reveal the exam content, but I think I can say that Oracle Uni is raising the standard with 12c .

  • Best Resolution for 8" Digital Photo Frame

What is best resolution to scan 2-1/4" medium format B&W negative film for display on an 8" DPF with a resolution of 800x600 pixels?

Thank you for your post and welcome to the forum.
120 film inherently will have a lot of detail on it (after all it's still used by professionals) so you don't want to miss anything - 3200 dpi is probably a good setting for a scanner. It's always best to have a high resolution master which you can make smaller sized copies of afterward.

  • Best book for learn FCE

Hi all, I have decided to make the leap from iMove to FCE and was thinking of buying a book to read about the software. Can any of you make some recommendations?
    Thanks for any help

    Two excellent resources, IMHO:
Final Cut Express Editing Workshop by Tom Wolsky
Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Express by Diana Weynand
Each is around $25-30 on Amazon.
Mr. Wolsky is a frequent contributor to this forum, so that book gives you the added advantage of being able to go "right to the source" with a question.

  • Best keyboard for learning on -- looking to buy

I am looking to buy a USB keyboard for my kids (9 & 12) to learn on Garage Band. We are not piano players, but would like to start with the lessons and maybe graduate up to playing sheet music for fun.
Keeping it simple, but wanting quality and some room to grow on....
Any opinions on what to get or avoid?

For kids, I would always pick a standalone keyboard that can produce sounds by itself - you just turn it on and makes sounds, as opposed to a midi controller which always needs a computer attached which might not always be available. There's a ton of instruments on the market - just make sure it has either a Mac compatible USB output or a Midi out (in which case you need an extra Midi interface to connect to the computer).
If you want to head towards serious piano playing, a keyboard with weighted keys would make sense, or an electric piano with midi output.
