Best suggestions for Windows content creators?

All of our iTunes U admins are using Macs, so getting the initial uploads of data for our iTunes U site is not a problem. However, we have decided to decentralize content creation/control to individual departments, and many of those reps use Windows.
Is anyone out there dealing with Windows users, or is a Windows user (with iTunes U) themselves? If so, is there a best suggested method to tell our Windows iTunes U Instructors to use, for connecting to their part of our iTunes U site?
Thanks for any help,

I agree with Ken, for creating content, Audacity is usually a good choice for Windows users ... even Mac users. It is simple to teach and to put forward as a campus standard. Don't get me wrong ... I luvvvv the Apple tools, but there is only so much richwolf to go around UIC and we're still very much a Windows site.

  • Best Practice for trimming content in Sharepoint Hosted Apps?

    Hey there,
I'm developing a Sharepoint 2013 App that is set to be Sharepoint Hosted.  I have a section within the app that I'd like to be Configuration-related, so I would like to only allow certain users or roles to be able to access this content or even see
that it exists (i.e. an Admin button, if you will).  What is the best practice for accomplishing this in Sharepoint 2013 Apps?  Thusfar, I've been doing everything using jQuery and the REST api and I'm hoping there's a standard within this that I
    should be using.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can weigh in here.
    Mike

    Hi,
    According to
this documentation, “You must configure a new name in Domain Name Services (DNS) to host the apps. To help improve security, the domain name should not be a subdomain
of the domain that hosts the SharePoint sites. For example, if the SharePoint sites are at Contoso.com, consider ContosoApps.com instead of App.Contoso.com as the domain name”.
    More information:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161237(v=office.15)
For production hosting scenarios, you would still have to create a DNS routing strategy within your intranet and optionally configure your firewall.
The link below will show how to create and configure a production environment for apps for SharePoint:

  • Best Place for Source Content Location?

    Hey Guys,
Currently we are planning for 2 sites with our Configuration Manager designing but we are unsure what would be the best scenario for the Source Content Location.
Should we just use DFS? or keep it local per site?

It can go anywhere, but you should put it close to your ConfigMgr Primary Site Server.  The primary will copy the content from the source to the content library (and then to the distribution points).
Regardless of which file share location you chose, I recommend accessing it from a DNS Alias so that it can be moved later on without having to update all packages/apps/driver packages etc.
    I hope that helps,

  • Best Practises for using Content Types

We had third party vendor who migrated and re structured contents and sites in Sharepoint 2010. I noticed one unusual thing : In most cases they new separate site content types for every library in a site i.e. even if two libraries contain same set of metadata
columns they created separate site content types by duplicating it from the first one and gave it unique name and used in second library.
My point of view for content type is that they are used for re usability, i.e. if another library is needing same set of metadata columns then I would just reuse existing content type rather than creating another content type with different name by inheriting
it from the first one and having same set of columns.
When I asked vendor reason for this approach (for every library they created new content types and for libraries needing same set of meta data columns they just inherited from a custom site content type and created another duplicate one with same set of
meta data columns and gave it different name in most cases name of library ) they said they did that to classify documents which I did not agree with because by creating two document libraries classification is already done.
I need some expert advice on this, I will really appreciate: I understand content types are useful and they provide re usability but,
     A) Do we need to create new site content types whenever we create new library ? (Even though we are not going to re use them)
    B) What is best practice : if few libraries are needing same set of metadata columns
    1) Create site a content type and reuse it in those libraries ? or
    2) Create a site content type and create new content types by inheriting from site content type created at first and just give them different name even though all of them are having same set of columns  ?
I need expert advice on this but following is my own opinion on this
I do not think point A) is a good practice and should not be used, we should create site content type only when we think it will be re used and we do not need to create site content type every time we create document library. Also I do not think point 2)
of B is a good practice as well
    Dhaval Raval

It depends on the nature of the content types and the libraries. If the document types really are shared between document libraries then use the same ones. If the content types are distinct and non overlapping items that have different processes, rules or
uses then breaking them out into a separate content type is the way forward.
As an example for sharing content types: Teams A and B have different document libraries. Both fill in purchase orders, although they work on different projects. In this case they use the same form and sharing a content type is the no question approach.
As an example for different content types: A company has two arms, a consultancy where they send people out to client sites and a manufacturing team who build hardware. Both need to fill in timesheets but whilst the metadata fields on both are the same the
forms are different and/or are processed in a different manner.
You can make a case either way, i prefer to keep the content types simple and only expand out when there's a proven need and a user base with experience with them. It means that if you wanted to subdivide later you'd have more of a headache but that's a
risk I generally think works out.

  • Best Tablet for Windows 7?

    Hi,
Just installed Win7 64bit, and i can't seem to get my Graphire 1 to work. Wacom are not being particularly useful about helping me, they said to use a particular set of drivers which then set up a Bamboo folder etc and wouldn't recognise my tablet.
    so either :-
does anyone already have a Graphire 1 working ok in W7 64bit, and if so what's the trick? alternatively, what would your recommendations be for a new tablet - the best one for integrating w/ Photoshop and preferably as cheap as poss cos i'm on a budget.
    TIA.

You already have the bet tablet I've seen - a Wacom tablet. The one you're using is an older and possible unsupported model, so you may need a new one. The Intuos 4 is outstanding. The small version is all that you need. If you need to save money, try ebay for one that's slightly used, but one way or another, I'd strongly recommend the Intuous line. The quality is exceptional.

  • Best JRE for Windows CE Application???

    Hello,
I am working on a project that is utilizing Java on a Compaq Pocket PC
running Windows CE. For now we seem to only be able to run JDK 1.1.8
on WCE with reasonable success. It works OK, but has definate
limitations and drawbacks. We have tried a third party product called
Geode Java that runs JDK 1.2. But it has some bugs and other issues.
Is it possible to use J2ME and follow the Sun's MIDP Spec on
WindowsCE? If not, are there any workarounds that may allow for this.
We are still in a proof of concept phase. But if we cannot find a
newer workable JDK for our application, we will probably port to C/C++
    instead.
Operating System changes are not an option at this point.
Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Derek Sedillo

  • Best Practice for Delivering Content

    Hi SDN Experts,
We have a scenario where we need to read/write a EDI kind of file, separated file. But the solution should be a deployable one and we are planning to provide IR Content alone and use Integration Scenarios for ID.
    We have two options:
    1. Use file Content Conversion (EDI structure is very simple) and provide Communication Channel Templates with Content Conversion Parameters for Integration Scenario.
    2. Use java Map to read/write EDI (Communication Channels would be simple in this case ).
What are the pros and cos of the two approaches?
    Regards,
    Sudharshan N A

    Hi Sudharsan,
    Pros and Cons:
    1. Use file Content Conversion (EDI structure is very simple) and provide Communication Channel Templates with Content Conversion Parameters for Integration Scenario.
Ans: - Communication channel configuration is dificult as you have to introduce content conversion in it. If you miss any parameter in that part or provide wrong value. It will cause error.
    - Mapping will bw very easy may be one to one or upon requirement. can use graphical mapping.
    2. Use java Map to read/write EDI (Communication Channels would be simple in this case ).
Ans: - You will resolve all conversion relation (like in which format data is expected at receiver) issues in java mapping by programing. so mapping is going to be atough task.
    - no content conversion required at CC level so its easy to configured.
    Best practice depends accordingly:
if you are a java expert (in java mapping) go for 2nd one other wise its always default to use content conversion.
    Hope this will help.

  • Best practice for window management

    Hi all,
I'm pretty new at flex and I have to develop an application.
I don't know yet what the best practices are to have a consistent layout and code
    - The program must have different views (scheduling, settings, adminwindow, ....)
What is the best way to switch between these views? Should I use a tabbar or a buttonbar?
    - What should a view be made off? Should I use different states, or should I switch between windows, or use something else?
That's it for now, thanks all.
    Greets me
btw, I try to use spark as much as possible..

  • Best Place for FCS2 Content

    Good morning.
I'm wondering if any might be able to advise me on the best place to keep the content files for Soundtrack, Motion, LiveType and DVDPro. Should they be on the same drive as the programs or on an external drive? If on an external drive, is a USB drive sufficient or should I keep them on the same FW drive where I store my other media?
    Thanks for your thoughts.
    Cheers,
    John

There is one situation where installing the content on your system disk would reduce performance, and that's if the content takes up most of the remaining space on the drive. Best not to fill it past 80% capacity.
Other than that situation, I don't think you will notice a difference. I personally keep mine on the system disk.

  • Best solution for Windows gaming in OS X environment

    Hello!
What would be the best solution to play Windows games in OX X environment - Parallels or VMWare?  (iMac 2012)
I do know that is would be best for performace just to make a separate installation of Windows via BootCamp, but I need to run Windows in OS X environment only.
I just obtained a custom-built iMac with 680MX onboard and would like to switch to Mac completely from my PC. But gaming is one of the most important aspect of my compure use. So I would like to have the ability to play as I did on PC without constant annoying reloading of the machine.

Wine is going to give you better performance over any VM for games. It supports a great deal of DirectX 9 games and DirectX 10 support is planned for the coming months.
Give Barrel a try (http://barrelapp.co.uk). It's an app I developed that lets you install, run and manage windows games on OS X 10.7+ by using Wine, that was designed with usability I mind. If you try it and have any questions ask and I'll answer them.
Alternatives are wineskin and crossover for Mac.

  • Suggestion for Windows Vista 64 Bit DESKTOP- Wireless Routers

    Hello. I just bought a Gateway GT5694.
It has Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    AMD(R) Phenom 9100e Quad-core Processor (3.2GHz)
    4GB DDR2 System Memory (Dual-Channel)
256MB ATI Radeon HD 3200 Video
1 HDMI, 2 FireWire (TM), 802.11b/g Wireless LAN etc
i am looking for a router (wireless or wired, doesn't matter) that will support uPnP and is compatible with this operating system. I currently have a 2wire 2701HG-B router that i got from ATT.
I am using this computer for school purposes and gaming purposes as well (e.g. WoW, Ragnarok Online, etc). So far with my current router, I am constantly disconnected from all online games as well as ALL instant messengers: AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live, and many more.
I even used Meebo.com and i am disconnected from there as well. I checked on Microsoft's site to see what was the problem and it was because my router doesn't support uPnP...
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  • Best software for Windows on Mac?

What is the best software to enable you to use Windows on the Imac? I'll be using this for some artwork/graphic intensive software so speed is definitely an issue. Also, this is probably a dumb question, but do I need to purchase Windows software in addition to the software to enable Windows?

    You've got 2 choices.
    1) BootCamp - you essentially boot right into Windows.  You'll probably get the best performance this way, but you have to reboot to get to the Mac side of things.
    2) Use a virtual Windows machine via Parallels or VMWare.  Both your Mac and Windows co-exist at the same time, share files between them.  I personally use Parallels for work to use a PC-only application and it runs great. Performance is great, I love being able to live in both worlds (when I have to).  To me, this is definitely the most convenient.  A colleague used VMWare and had a lot of trouble with it.  But to be fair, I'm not sure if it was the software or the person.  :-)
And yes, you'll need to purchase a copy of Windows to install.
    Hope this helps.
