Best Television for college student with PS3

Hello Guys,
I had purchased a 22" 720P Element television back in June for $170(it was a store model on sale), this was my first HD television.  However, many of PS3 games, such as Final Fantasy and GTA:IV are so detailed, that I have to look directly at the television less than 5 feet away in order to see the screen properly, even though I have good vision(I don't need glasses). And yes, I do use an HDMI cable.
I was thinking of giving this television to my uncle to use as a computer monitor, and buying a larger television for myself, however my budget is about $300-$500.
Here are my questions for you:
1.) Considering my budget is about $300-$500(depending on how long I wait to purchase), and that this television will be mainly used to play PS3 games, would there be much point?
2.) If yes to #1, what should I look for when buying a television? I find the HDTV market slightly confusing, especially with the new monitors with 4 colors(RGBY vs. RGB).

Within your price range, the only thing you can do is upgrade to a 32" TV.  It sounds like insufficient screen size is probably your problem anyway.
Really, all you need for gaming is:  Get a good brand for the purposes of reliability and build quality.  LG, Samsung, Sony, Sharp, Toshiba.  Avoid the store brands like Dynex, Insignia, etc.  Avoid the "Formerly big" brands like RCA and Zenith - these brands now exist solely to license their name to noname foreign manufacturers.
People have had bad experiences with the 120Hz motion processing present in 120Hz TVs, so stick with 60Hz.
As to the new Sharp Quattron (RGBY) units - It's interesting as to whether there is anything within the x.v.Color colorspace (RGB over HDMI with wide gamut) that can't be representative by traditional RGB pixels.  (RGB is not necessarily always RGB - there are cases where monitors can't display certain RGB triplets, and the yellow pixel in Quattrons may improve this.)  However, the smallest Sharp Quattron is 40", and significantly more expensive than non-Quattron units, about twice your maximum price.

  • Best backup drive for college student

Need recommendation for backup drive for college student using MacBook Pro.

    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components: 1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences; and, 2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    Synk Pro
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
    Cool Drives
    OWC
    WiebeTech
    Firewire Direct
    California Drives
    NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

    iPad (iOS 7.1.2) - Kindle.
I am looking for a good app that can help a college student with reading books that cannot be found on audio book.  I have tried voice over and it works but it's very monotone and it really strings things together.
    - I'm willing to pay for a good app but I can't seem to sort though the many that are out there. Any suggestions.

Ah. I'm surprised, but there we go.

Didn't have time to do more than skim, but 'Ardour' looked promising. Protools is the only one I've used, the full product is one of the industry standards, but the free 'lite' version listed here seems to be limited to 2 in/out as well.
Referring to your original post, I'd think trying to write or 'script' something would be a nightmare ... synchronisation of streams within something like Applescript would be a major issue, quite apart from anything else.

  • Is there a bundle for college students renting house for 9-10 months?

Verizon should have a bundle for college students that are renting a house for less than 1 year.  My son informed me that they got Verizon and I was not happy.  They are stuck in a 1 year contract and should have went with the cable company in the area where there is no penalty for cancelling.

Where will your son be living after he finishes the rent period? If he's moving somewhere new, he should be able to move his Verizon service with no early termination fee.

  • Best practice for sharing data with model window

    Hi team,
what would the best practice for sharing data with a modal
window be ? I use a modal window to display record details from a
record list, but i am not quite sure how to access the data from
the components in the main application in the modal window.
    Any hints would be welcome
    Best
    Frank

Pass a reference to the parent into the modal popup. Then you
can reference anything in the parent scope.
    I haven't done this i 2.0 yet so I can't give you code. I'll
    post if I do.
Oh, also, you can reference the parent using parentDocument.
So in the popup you could do:
    parentDocument.myPublicVariable = "whatever";

  • Best practices for apps integration with third party systems ?

    Hi all
I would like to know if there is any document from oracle or from your own regarding best practices for apps integration with third party systems.
For example, in particular, let's say we need customization in a given module(ex:payables) need to provide data to a third party system, consider following:
    outbound interface:
1)should third party system should be given with direct access to oracle database to access a particular payments data information table/view to look for data ?
    2) should oracle create a file to third party system, so that it can read and do what it need to do?
    inbound:
    1) should third party should directly login and insert data into tables which holds response data?
    2) again, should third party create file and oralce apps will pick up for further processing?
again, there could be lot of company specific scenarios like it has to be real time or not... etc...
How does companies make sure third party systems are not directly dipping into other systems (oracle apps/others), so that it will follow certain integration best practices.
how does enterprise architectute will play a role in this? can we apply SOA standards? should use request/reply using Tibco etc?
Many oracle apps implementations customizations are more or less directly interacting with third party systems by including code to login into respective third party systems and vice versa.
Let me your know if you have done differently and that would help oracle apps community.
    thanks
    rrb.

you want to send idoc to third party system (NONSAP).
what kind of system is it? can it handle http requests
    or
    can it handle webservice?
which version of R/3 you are using?
what is the mechanism the receiving system has, to receive data?

  • What MacBook Pro with Retina Display is recommended for college students?

I'm trying to decide which MacBook Pro with Retina Display to buy before I go off to college. I want to get the 2.6 GHz, 16 GB of RAM, and just the 512 GB of Flash. But I don't know which one is better for a business major. The 2.6 GHz Pro with Retina, or the 2.3 GHz Retina. My concers are the space, and this computer is suppossed to last me 4 years.

I'm a college student as well and I'm going to be a sophomore engineering major. I'm currently sitting on a 2007 white MacBook. Yes, it is from the stone age. However, over 5 years, I have only used 280 GB of space. I'm going to order a 2.7GHz, 16GB, 512 SSD R-MBP this weekend, in the hopes that this, too will last me about 5 years. Honestly, if you have the money to drop, I would buy the fastest possible configuration, 16GB ram, and a 512 SSD so that you can comfortably use your computer for another 4-5 years. My white MacBook served quite well for 5 years. The thing about newer technology is that it may last longer. A Core2Duo processor from 07 is nothing compared to Ivy Bridge now. So I would max out the configuration if I were you. By 2017, Intel is going to be making processors that will make this R-MBP look like crap, so consider "future-proofing" your computer for the long run.

  • Internet Solution for college students?

    Hello everyone,
I am a college student at Navarro and I am looking for an internet solution that caters to pretty specific needs. I will give some general ideas of what I think the ideal plan would be, and anyone who knows a plan that contains some of or all of those aspects please let me know!
:.>No contract - (most likely prepay). This is important because I would only be using it during resident times.
:.>Cost effective - Would like to see a plan from $15-30. The lower the better, I usually have about $200 left over after a semester.
:.>Tolerable speeds - I do not need 15mb speeds, but I average 28kb/s on the college wireless internet. This is not fast enough to have a reliable connection or to stream video for online classes. (720 students to 1 15 mb dsl connection).
:.>Router options - I would most likely want to purchase the router straight up if it is pre-pay / no contract, so if I change dorms etc. there is no hassle. Wireless might be nice, might not be.
I move a lot of data over a connection, so using a phone as a modem won't work. The buildings here are pretty dense, so satelite / wireless signals are weak and unstable at best. It is in a college dorm, so no new wires would be able to be run to the room; existing connections are phone and cable.
Thank you for reading my post! I am looking forward to ideas and suggestions to help improve my situation! It can be very frustrating taking 5 minutes to get into college email, or several hours for larger windows updates and whatnot!

    Hi Mcnpenfold,
Is Verizon in your area? If so private message me so that I can get more details.  I would like to see what plans are available in your area.  If you live on campus does the school allow students to get their own Internet services?  Thank you for your interest in Verizon services.

  • Best phone for Sync-ing with iCal?

I'm due to upgrade my mobile and wondered which is the best available handset for Sync-ing with a mac. At present I have the Sony Ericson K750i which was working fine up until I upgraded to Tiger.
    Any ideas?

Has anybody had any experience syncing the Motorola
    KRZR with iCal?
I own a Motorola KRZR K1m (Sprint), which is supposedly supported by iSync 2.4. This seems to be a troublesome phone in regard to compatibility with iSync. If you read the iSync discussions, you will see many problems. Those that do get iSync to accept the KRZR as "supported" seem to still have problems with iCal in particular. Evidently, there are some system hacks available to force the sync to work with iCal. If you are not comfortable with getting inside files and re-writing code, then you may not be a happy camper.
Naturally, if you have access to a Windows machine, you will have no problem. (... Getting ready to duck, since that last statement will draw out all the Apple apologists and Apple-employee-wannabes ...)
Personally, I have had no success getting iSync to recognize my KRZR at all. While I can transfer files via bluetooth, the iSync issues make me wish I had some other phone. In fact, the iSync/KRZR issues are probably going to lead me to change to another (known to be supported) phone. Since I'm stuck with Sprint, that won't be easy.
    Good luck!

    Hello,
I have 22 aironet 1130 access points installed in a large building together with an ACS 4.1. what is the best solution to manage the APs, provide QOS and centrally authenticate and control the AP.
Will enabling WDS on AP provide radio management without WLSE or wlan controllers.

If you are dead set on autnomous, WLSE is probably your best bet.
I worked with some third party managment software before for cisco access points and it wasnt very fun.
You can ebay used controllers pretty cheap these days. Once the 5500s are released you may even see them dip a bit lower ...

  • Best Macbook for university students?

Hi there, I will be going to university later this year and am hoping to take advantage of the apple store's "back to school scheme" to buy a new laptop.
I will be doing a business economics degree so laptop will primarily be used for:
    - Word processing, writing notes/papers etc.
    - Surfing the internet (research/more casual use eg twitter etc)
    - iPhoto (personal use)
I don't tend to use any "professional" applications or anything so I am debating whether to go for a MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air.
Aside from price, which would you recommend as the best laptop for a university student?

  • Best quality for editing fcp with p2 standard definition and canon elura 100 widescreen

I am editing on FCP 7. Three cameras were used. Panasonic HPX 500 set in standard def 4x3, another small panasonic that shoots standard def was used only it was set a 16x9 and an even smaller Canon  NTSC Elura 100 was set on widescreen (16x9). My mistake is I want them look the best they can (at 16x9 or 4x3) when burned to DVD. I would prefer to go with 4x3 and crop the 16x9s. I have a Mac Pro 1,1 ; 2 Dual Core Intel Xeon 2.66 gHx and AJA Kona card. The question is: What is the BEST setting for log & capture of each device and what is the BEST sequence setting to build my project on. Right now everything looks like it has a soft shadowy image (basically low quality image - probably because it is mostly low quality... even the HPX 500 looks bad because I expanded it to fit the 16x9 screen of my sequence. And here's a strange event, even though my sequence setting is 720x480 the screen aspect ratio comes out 16x9... go figure. I seem to know less and less about this business every day. If anybody is willing to offer some advice on how I can make Chicken Salad out of this Chicken Shi_, I'd love to hear it. I hope it's just a settings problem on the ingest or sequence side.

  • Can the $100 Mac App store credit for college students be claimed anytime?

I am planning to get a Mac Book Pro for college, but money is a little tight right now and I heard that Apple is coming out with a newer MBP around Christmas this year, and I plan on getting it then. The $100 for the App store sounds enticing, and I am hoping I wouldn't forfeit it by waiting until December/January to get a new MBP.

    Hi g,
No one here knows Apple's plans, and if they do, they're not allowed to tell. You can look at past history and make a decision based on that, or you can just take your chances.

  • Basic Strategy / Best Practices for System Monitoring with Solution Manager

I am very new to SAP and the Basis group at my company. I will be working on a project to identify the best practices of System and Service level monitoring using Solution Manager. I have read a good amount about SAP Solution Manager and the concept of monitoring but need to begin mapping out a monitoring strategy.
We currently utilize the RZ20 transaction and basic CCMS monitors such as watching for update errors, availability, short dumps, etc.. What else should be monitored in order to proactively find possible issues. Are there any best practices you all have found when implimenting Monitoring for new solutions added to the SAP landscape.... what are common things we would want to monitor over say ERP, CRM, SRM, etc?
Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions!

Did you try the following link ?
If not, it may be useful to some extent:

You have quite a few documents there - those on BPM may also cover Solution Monitoring aspects.
