Best thread/tutorial on sync?

I'm just getting started on using an iPad and iTunes.  The official support and most threads are confusing in that I can't seem to find out exactly what happens when you "sync."  I think of the term "sync" as synchronizing, as in making two things completely consistent, without removing anything from either, but this does not seem to be what is happening  in an iPod/iPad "sync" - there is always the possibility of wiping something out!
I think use of the term "transfer" would help - instead of saying "sync the iPad to iTunes" or "sync iTunes to the iPad", I would like to see "If you check this checkbox and click APPLY, then X will be transferred from the iPad to the computer and all X in iTunes on the computer will be overwritten.  On the other hand, if you want to add X from the iPad to X on the computer, then do this."
Any suggestions for a simple unambiguous discussion?

Download this and do a search for "sync."

  • Best Swing tutorial?

I've always wanted to get into Swing, but I have two left feet.
Okay, so in all seriousness I was wondering what you think the best Swing tutorial is? I'd prefer online to paper, but I'm open to any suggestions. As to what I want to do with Swing, I really can't say other than that I want to learn the basics. I've developed a lot of apps with user interfaces on the web and I want to try developing an app that doesn't require a web server or other overhead for a change.
So, who would you Swing with?

    Hi everyone,
If you ask me i would say
If you ask me i would say sun's official swing
tutorial. But if you find a better one let me know as
    well
Richard WestNow if only you were smart enough to see that he posted the question in the swing forum (and properly provided a link to it by the way), you would have perhaps been apt to answer him over there instead of here, you idiotic troll you.

  • What is best password AP to sync with Imac (Snow Leopard)?

What is best password AP to sync with Imac (Snow Leopard)?

Here are a few analog to digital devices and approaches I have had success with:
    1. Sony DA-2
    2. Most Name brand Firerwire or i.Link Minidv Camcorders with Digital Pass thru feature will suffice since more often than not this feature is also included ... But read the owner's manual or check online to make certain it's included.
    3. Canopus products work perfectly nearly 100% of the time and will keep the video and audio in synch much better than other devices. It can take the form of a pci card (if your mac is so equipped) and if not, then a canopus media converter box will also work (as already mentioned above):

    4. Another approach I use to simply "dump" mini dv or VHS tapes to Dvd-R is a DVD Player/Recorder like the one shown below with Digital inputs. In this case (i.Link / FW)):

How is it best to keep files synced between iMac and Macbook?  I work from home on my iMac and then out in meetings on my Macbook and need to have access to the same files on both.  The folders are using Microsoft programmes as this is compatiable with 90% of my colleagues, therefore I can't use the Icloud service.

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom.

  • Sharing socket object between threads - Is any sync required?

For example, a thread receives (listens) datagram packets at incoming socket and forwards them downstream through another datagram socket. Another thread listens packets at this second socket and forwards the data via the first socket. It is possible that two threads invoke methods of the same socket (one is receiveng while another is sending). This situation is not described in the DatagramSocket manual. I beleive there is underlying synchronization at the OS kernel level. Can I relay on it? Thanks.

I expected some critics for using old plain sockets instead of nio :)You should use NIO if you have hundreds of connections. If you have a small number of connections and want a simple implementation use blocking IO as you have.
    If you can have different
threads reading or writing at once eg two readingor
two writing then you need to use synchronisation.Shouldn't this be stated by the API designers somewhere? It is probibly covered in a tutorial or example somewhere.
You have a different input and output stream. There is a lock on each. This is your best hint.
Theoretically, nothing prohibits sending UDP packets in race conditions.
In fact, this is what my program
does - it respondes to different clients using one
(server) datagram socket. The responses are produced
by multiple threads. I suppose that java does not
involve any state variables; thus, beleive that the
system can accomplish the synchronisation unnecesary
at the application level. That depends on how you build and send your messages. If each part of the message can be sent in one hit and the order does not matter you are fine.
If you have a single object shared between threads, then all members are shared, not just static variables.

  • What is the best way to edit/sync two video files?

Has anyone had experience with editing 2 movies files?  I have recently taken video with 2 cameras of the same quality and am attempting to 'merge' the two video files.  What's the best way to 'sync' the 2 files?
    Thanks

The real answer is to do this in Final Cut Pro X with the new multicam feature with automatic syncing using the audio wave forms.
However, it is quite possible in iMovie.
Here is how I did it in iMovie.
I recently did this for a video of my niece's senior voice recital. (Video is below)
The key is to use the Cutaway feature of  iMovie. If you are not familiar with Cutaway, here is a good tutorial from Ken Stone.
I used the side camera as my base clips, and used the back camera as the cutaway clips. The back camera audio track was OK but had too much coughing and noise.
Here are tips for getting it lined up perfectly.
    1) In iMovie/Preferences make sure that you check "Display Time as hh:mm:ss:frames" so you can edit to the frame level. (Also, select "Show Advanced Tools so you get the Cutaway feature)
    2) In the iMovie Project View, set the thumbnail slider to 1/2 second so you have a great deal of control.
    3) Initially, leave the volume at 100% on the Cutaway track, so that both tracks are playing. You can hear when they are off.
    4) Click the "Waveforms" button in the Project view, so you get a visual cue of how to line up the tracks.
    5) Between the audible cues and the visual cues, you can nudge the cutaway back and forth one frame at a time by dragging until you have it perfect.
    6) When it is lined up to your satisfaction, set the volume slider of the Cutaway track to zero, and turn off the waveforms. You can also move the thumbnail slider back to 5 seconds or so.
    7) For some of the fine work, I switched to the "single row timeline view". This slows you down a bit, but lets you see the waveforms more clearly.
    8) I made heavy use of the iMovie Comment Marker feature. I watched the whole base video/audio track and inserted comment markers at the points where I wanted the Cutaway to begin and end. For example, a comment might say "Insert Cutaway 1". I would usually time the cutaway so it started at a distinct audio event, such as when the piano start. This comment marker made it easy to drag my cutaway to a point that was approximately correct.
    9) If you need to do a lot of cutaways, I find that it helps to use the SPLIT CLIP command in your project. This way you can have a single cutaway per clip, and this makes it easier to manage and is less processor and memory intensive for iMovie. I would use the comments to mark the entry and exit points of the cutaway as described above. I would then select that portion of the clip that included these markers plus a little more, so that a yellow border is around the selection. Then right-click/SPLIT CLIP (or CLIP/SPLIT CLIP in the top menu). This does not physically splt the clip within the Event. It only virtually splits the clip in the project.

  • What is best way to active sync large quantities of files on work PCs across multiple mobil devices of employees in the field?

I am looking for the best way for us to file share between our PC and mobil devices?  We have tons of PDF files and would benefit from being able to view/edit while in the field but are not sure of the best way to do so…
    - iCloud drive isn’t ideal because it requires everyone to have and maintain their own files via their individual devices and iCloud addresses
    - Dropbox seems to work, but it doesn’t actually store a local copy of the files so we have to load each time to view and their document viewers are not the most user friendly
    - Google Drive we used a long time ago, when it first came out, and it kind of worked well, but due to the volume of files and size of folders we constantly ran into crashing issues and sync problems so we gave up on it…
Ideally we would like to have local folders on our desktop that activesync to our mobil devices… Do you know of a way that this would be possible or do we need to purchase one of those large, robust field management programs?

    Hi Bob.
So what I should have done on my PC for all my files is gone to the File menu and used the Package command which would have converted it into a file with the images in it so they wouldn't need to be relinked.
From now on I will only be working on Mac (I gave away my PC) but I'm sure I could use a friend's pc (or at a later point install Windows on my Mac). But to use the Package command on PC I need to actually have the images in the correct folder on the PC right?

  • Best Practice Question: Portal Sync Rules

    Hi,
Is there any benefit in combining Inbound and Outbound Flows in a single Sync Rule?
Or does it not matter if Inbound flows have their own Sync Rule and Outbound flows have their own Sync Rules?
Does either option generate more/less EREs/DREs?
Is either option better for performance reasons?
look forward to your comments, thank you
    sk

    1:
Only the OSR's create EREs, so if you have 4 outbound 3 inbound (assuming a user gets all 4 outbound SR's) the user should have 4 EREs. If the rules were combined into 3 outbound/inbound and 1 outbound, the user still gets 4 EREs.
    2:
If my source was AD, I would create a new MV attribute called inAD. Then import a constant "true" from the target, AD for example. Then from my source, HR for example,  ill flow in a constant "false". Lastly update the MV attribute precedence for the
inAD attribute to be AD then HR. From there i'd create a custom attribute in the portal so I can use the flag for set criteria.
This might be a long winded way of getting it done, but say you have 10k users in AD and used DRE's. It means 10k more objects in the MV and in the portal.
Disclaimer: Not saying this is best practice, it's just what I do :)

  • Whats the best mobile phone for syncing to macbook?

I am about to buy a mobile phone and i want to know which one is the best, for ease of connection?

Personally, I would recommend any of the later Sony Ericsson models. Either the K800 or K610 (supported in iSync 2.4), or any of the additional models supported by iSync Phone Plugins from here.
You can see what data is synced on the page linked above. You can also use them with the Mac Address Book for SMS and Calls.

    Hello Tom,
I find the tutorials at designprovideo.com simply fantastic! It's like having someone there with you, walking you through the software. I started with Photoshop and have since moved on to the beginner tutorial for Flash CS4 101:
    http://designprovideo.com/tutorial/flashcs4101
I was finding Flash very intimidating. Now I am feeling more comfortable with the basics after watching the first 50 videos. I especially appreciate the way the training is organized into bite sized chunks and the trainers do not assume knowledge like in other tutorials I have seen.
