Witch MacBook is the best to buy if i want to Edit videos and photos? Any advice?

Hi Catflow and welcome to Apple Support.
So it kind of depends on how intensive your editing will be, especially videos. A professional video editor will have multiple monitors and the fastest possible Mac. I knew a video editor in Chicago who ran with 5 36" Cinema Monitors and an 8 Core Mac Pro.
A photo editor will have the largest possible monitor and processor speed would be less critical. I had a client who was a professional photographer. She wanted to buy an iMac. I told her she needed a Mac Pro with two Cinema Monitors. Later she thanked me because she said, "The clients see my pictures on those two huge monitors and they are immediately sold."
So if you want to stay with a laptop get the largest display you can with the max memory and maybe even a SSD. You could also use a smaller more portable model with an external display.
I put 8GB RAM and a SSD in this early 2011 13" MacBook Pro. Photoshop CS6 opens in 3 seconds vrs. 45 before the upgrade! I don't do a lot of photo editing. If I did and have done I'd use my Wife's Mini with the 23" Cinema display or my Daughter's iMac i5 with the 21.5" display!

  • What the best to buy iPad please

    Hello are you there ?

Hello and welcome to the forums. This is a user-to-user technical support forum. It isn't live chat. You generally don't want to create multiple threads with the same question as you'll find it hard to track answers.
Without knowing you or your needs, it would be almost impossible to answer the question posed in your subject line. You should probably go to your nearest Apple retailer and spend some time looking at the various models. That should give you a good idea of which one best meets your preferences and needs.
    Best of luck.

  • What best to buy for exporting machine

    Hello everyone,
My I suggested to buy new workforce to increase our export hours per week so we can deliver more material to our clients per week, and my boss gave me green light to buy 3 computers. I already have 3 machines (2 pc cori7 and cori5 and mac pro), I will only use the 3 machines to export no editing or other major tasks to be done on them, all editing process are done on my i7 & mac pro machines, what I wanna know is that for the machines that I will buy -which will be used only for exporting, what matters the most to get the fastest export, an i7 with a built in graphic card near to 1 GB or something or should I custome install a 3 GB graphic card for example?
We wanna buy asap, appreciate all fast responds (and of course late ones ), hope to meet our planned target to meet customer's demand.
    Regards

For Premiere information take a look at the PPBM6/7 results for export times for four different export times..  You will have to register to see the results page.  To see the four test results look at the output file, the first result is the disk I/O timeline export time, the second number is the export of the H.264 timeline, the third number is the GPU assisted export of the MPEG2-DVD timeline which is an AVCHD clip with lots of GPU assisted effects and features (like scaling down to SD) for DVD playback, and the fourth number is the export time of that same timeline with CPU processing only.. Looking at the Speccy file will give you the hardware configuration.

  • Is it best to buy new ms office software for iPad or can I use my ms office already installed on my MacBook Pro ?

Can I use my current ms office on my MacBook Pro on my iPad or must I purchase new ms office software for iPad?

    Hi,
There's an app called Jump Desktop (Remote Desktop) in the app store. It's the fourth highest 'paid' app and the third highest 'grossing' app in the business category. (Go to the app store, then click on categories, then business. Then over on the right under top grossing and top paid you can click on Jump and read the reviews.)
You can work from your ipad with documents, spreadsheets, etc., make changes in them on your ipad and they will be reflected on your computer (mac or pc.) And you don't need a cellular ipad to make the connection. All you need to do is have your MBP on at home with a wireless network and be in an area where you have wireless access to connect your ipad (or iphone) with your MBP at home.
Jump Desktop (Remote Desktop) RDP/VNC will let you access your mac and all of your mac programs like MS Word, Excel, etc., as they are on your ipad. There's a free trial at jumpdesktop.com. If you like it you can then come back to the App store and buy it.  Please note that there are many free apps that will help but you might have to spend extra time adapting your work to an ios app as many (most?) do not translate from mac to ipad well.
Please read the reviews in the app store (I suggest you start with the most recent ones) and read reviews by pro tech reviewers.
    Hope this helps.

  • What is the best option buy bigasoft converter or quicktime pro to translate mts files?

    I have a MBP 2.66 core duo and a canon hf200 (with a transcend 16gb class6  sd card).
I shot 90 minutes of footage and then tried the sd reader in the MBP, and even connected the camcorder via usb cable but the only files that are found are VLC or rather .mts
The MBP wont see the camcorder when linked by cable, and my imovie 09 and Final cut express wont read or import the .mts files.
So will quicktimepro open them and work smoothly? the page from apple does not list .mts as files supported.
bigasoft say they have a converter for just this solution/problem ( http://www.bigasoft.com/dvd-ripper.html )
but it costs about the same price of $30
I just tried handbrake and it worked??? but is it a functional conversion or will any imovies i try to make have coding errors from some incompatabilities?
thanks gang from a drama teacher just trying to cut loose some copies of the kids shows that they were in.

  • Which PSU is best to buy for Early 2005 dual 2.0 G5

    following on from this topic-
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2370706&tstart=0
I'm looking to purchase a replacement PSU but what I want to know is do I have to get a 450w one or will any of the others work in my machine ?
    Thanks

Ok the replacement PSU arrived today, fitted it an hour or so ago. Mac booted first time and I checked systems profiler to check everything else was re-installed fine, no problems there. Shut her down and tried the power button and she booted straight up, thought I was on to a winner.
Just to be safe I shut her down after spotlight had done it's thing and went to boot the Mac again and this time nothing happens same as my previous problem located here -
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2370706&tstart=0
I've reset the PMU (although my systems date didn't change when I managed to get the Mac to boot!?) Left it unplugged for 30 mins or so but I'm still having the same problem, can't be another dodgy PSU can it ?
It doesn't seem as bad as my last one, seems a bit easier to get the Mac to boot, my old one took 2 days of being off to boot. Also when I unpacked the replacement this afternoon I opened it up to make sure there were no signs over over heating and the board looked perfectly fine.
    I'm lost now!
    Any ideas ?

  • Best Buy needs to reevaluate customer service.

First, let me start by saying that I have always bought all my major appliances and electronics from Best Buy, but that may change soon. On November 30, 2014 I ordered a Whirlpool Convection over the range microwave and a French door Samsung refrigerator. We had the microwave delivered to our house and it arrived on December 9, 2014 with a dent in it. So we returned it to the Avon, IN store where they reordered it delivered to the store so that it wouldn't be damaged. The new one arrived and we got it home to find it also damaged, so we returned it to the store and asked for a refund as we did not have time to deal with it at that moment.<br>Our refrigerator was delivered on Saturday, December 13th. We were first emailed that it would be delivered between 11:30am and 1:30pm, then got a call saying 12:30-2:30pm. When it did not come by 2:30 we called and they said that they always showed it as being delivered between 2:30-4:30pm. The refrigerator was delivered at 6:00pm with no apology. When I called customer service about this the lady told me that yeah in the last year Best a Buy had been going downhill and she wasn't sure why, is that really what you want your reps telling your customers? Then 4 - 6 days later the refrigerator stopped working while my husband and I were out of town on vacation. Our grown daughter found it after it had not been working for a couple of days, everything was spoiled by the time she found it. She called customer service and tried a couple of recommendations but it didn't work and the technician recommended that we request a replacement. I immediately called customer service on December 19th and was told they would deliver a new one on the 20th. My daughter waited and never got a call, so around noon she called and they told her they couldn't possibly deliver it as they did not have it in stock. NICE! I then tried calling customer service several times and kept getting cutoff, so gave up as I was traveling. On the 23rd I spent over a hour and numerous attempts to talk to customer service, I kept getting cutoff and then having to start over the whole process. Finally I got a gentleman who was extremely helpful and my refrigerator is now scheduled to be delivered the 29th between 1:30-3:30, do I really expect it to show - NO! I then asked the gentleman to reorder the microwave that was previously returned at the original $399 price, he was checking but didn't see a problem with that. Guess what, he cut me off when he put me on hold. So here I go again, next customer service person verifies refrigerator is to be delivered on the 29th, nope I still won't believe it until I see it. When I ask about reordering the microwave for the sale price, they said no, even though I had went through the whole story with them. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ridiculous, I am asking for a $50 price discount for all the troubles I went through and my business isn't worth it to Best Buy. I did not buy it since they couldn't give me the $50 off and I can buy it anywhere at the same price, I will take my business elsewhere. I think you all need to revisit your customer service and what you want to do to retain a valuable customer. If the refrigerator doesn't show up on time tomorrow I won't be here and I will use social media to tell my story.

Hello Zebo welcome to the forums!
I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience about your delivery of your appliances. Kitchen appliances are a big purchase and it sounds bad when one gets a damaged unit. Please note that your posting will serve as receipt of a Best Buy staff acknowleding your troubles, and as long as you are subscribed to this thread, if you encounter any further troubles, please post back here and let them know, you will continue to receive email notifications when a BBY Staff responds to your inquiry.
Best Buy is a little bit backed up right now considering the end of the holiday season so you may encounter a delay in an official reply from them.
Your patience is greatly appreciated and I'm hoping for the best on your replacement delivery on your kitchen wares

  • Buying new videocamera for a sweet sixteen. What is best one?

I am planning on buying a new video camera for my sisters sweet sixteen. I wanted to know what camera would be best to buy that would work easily with the new mac computors and with imovie editing. I would like to buy something that has good quality, ease of use, but not too expensive. The most i would spend is around 400- 500. I also dont know what kind of camera would be best, tape, card? PLease help im confused. Thanks!

    Hello, tinydancer87,
I think you would be very happy with a nice camcorder in your price range that is very easy to use:
iMovie uses DV tape footage, so I would stick with that. Otherwise, you have to deal with trying to change the format, and may lose quality.
Look at the Sony DCR HC-28 or 38, mini DV camcorders. They are smallish, easy to use, integrate well with iMovie (need no software). I have used the HC-30 and 26, these others are just upgrades.
Be sure that the DV input port supports video IN and OUT so you can import and export your movies. Buy good quality miniDV tapes...the Sony brand is fine. Get the 60min, not 90, more durable. Buy more than you think you need, just in case!
Now, just pop in a tape, record your event, hook up the camcorder to your computer via Firewire and import!
For help with creating iMovies, have a look at some of Apple's tutorials here
    Have fun!

I have a G4 PowerBook, 15", that needs a new battery. Where is the best placeto buy one?
Does a new battery still require conditioning?

I checked out a few other sites and theirs are much less. What "pitfalls" shoud I be aware of before buying? I know warranty would be one of them.
    Jane
I can't say for sure what the indicators of a reputable other source are.  That being said, there are lots of offers out there for batteries that are (take your pick) cheap knockoffs, actually used batteries that show up with many cycles reporting, batteries that do not communicate with the OS or SMU/PMU at all, etc.  There are anecdotal reports of batteries going kerplunk within months of shipping.  So, first make sure that the site is reputable.  Second, scour the web for references to the site to see is there are many "I got taken" posts.  Finally, search this discussion thread for "powerbook battery" and check for the anecdotal information I was referring to.
As I noted above, I have been running an OWC battery for about a year now without a problem and I have had other good dealings with them.  You might ask in this thread if anyone has had good results or bad with a candidate vendor.

  • What is the best external hard drive to use with a macbook?

I am looking to buy an external hard drive for my macbook pro (2010).  I understand that some hard drives have issues when used with Lion.
Does anyone have any suggestions for which is the best to buy?

Any hard drive should work. I don't know of any issues caused by a specific brand of hard drive for working with Lion.
Now as far as the hard drive itself goes there are a few options. Most external drives run at 7200 rpm. Some however still run at 5400 rpm (rpm is the speed of the disk in layman's terms). Faster is better in most cases, however they do produce slightly more sound and run hotter, but not by much.
Then there is also the choice between USB and FireWire (thunderbolt is still to pricy). FireWire runs faster, but is more expensive.
    Those are your choices.

  • Which is the best operating system to update my MacBook Air?

I've just invested in a brand new MacBook Air, and I'm wanting to get the best out of it, so is it worth updating my OS? and if so which is the best to buy? Thanks

Apple products always come with the latest. Just set up yopur system, and the run software updates to get any late changes from Apple. iLife 2011 is also included with your MBA. If the question you are actually asking has to do with other software versus OS, that is a much bigger question, and would be dependent on what you intend to do with the system.
On January 6th, the Mac App Store will go live, and make it very easy to find and load software.

  • Buying monitor for macbook

i am buying a monitor for my macbook and was looking to spend aroung £130- £160 for sometihng ner a 20 inch screen, does anyone have any ideas whihc model woud be the best to buy,

Check the resolution capability, you can get a good 1600x1200 20-inch monitor. Or go for the wider screens a little larger. The MacBook can drive up to 1920x1200. I have found the Samsung monitors usually to be a good value, but prices vary all the time, you have to shop around and watch prices. With most new monitors having DVI input, you would need the mini-DVI to DVI adapter for the MacBook. Some can rotate to portrait or landscape mode, the MacBook supports this also.
