Best TV display to connect to Mac Pro 1.1

Right now i have 30" apple display and 45" samsung tV monitor. I want to get rid off both and replace with 55-60" TV monitor. But I don't want to loose resolution while I am using that monitor for computer work like writing projects/editing movies/pictures.

The Apple 30" runs at 2560x1600 which enables you to sit close to the screen, like you would when you work on a computer.
The 55-60" TV will only run at 1980x1200 max.
You're going to have to sit far enough away so that the screen isn't blurry, but then if you sit too far you can't see the screen well...it's pretty difficult to get a balance, which I think is why its not really a popular option to use a tv for you main computer monitor.
If you want to sit "close" to a tv or monitor that is large (55-60") you need to compensate with a higher resolution (which you won't find mainstream).
Think of it like, 1920x1200 on a 24" / looking at it 1ft away is awesome, but then take that *same amount of pixels* and then put in on a 60" screen / looking at it 1ft away.. It's not gonna look as good. If you move back say 10-15ft away, it'll look awesome! But remember you're not watching movies or "big objects", you're trying to, "look for that folder in the finder" from 15ft away...
Unfortunately, both the tv and monitor exists in different worlds no matter how much we try to combine them. If you need more real estate, you might just sell your apple 30" and buy 2 dell 30" monitors.

    The 30" display needs a DUAL-LINK adapter.

No. Target Display mode is only supported when connected to a Mac running 10.6 or later.
It cannot be used with a PC, bootcamp, gamaing console, cable box, DVR or PowerPC Mac.

  • 24" Cinema Display (LED) with 2008 Mac Pro

My 23" Cinema Display monitor is beginning to show signs of aging, having been used with two Mac Pros and a G5. I'd like to upgrade the monitor to a 24" LED Cinema Display, but the 2008 Mac Pro doesn't have the mini-DVI port. Is there any upgrade path here? The new (unavailable) ATI Radeon card?, mini-DVI to DVI adapter (monitor to computer)? I can't believe Apple would leave recent Mac Pro owners with no path to upgrade the monitor (save for the overpriced 30" non-LED monitor).

The nVidia card says it is specifically for the 2009 Mac Pro, while the ATI says it is for the early 2008 or the early 2009. The hard to get ATI appears to be the only card available for the 2008 that has the mini-DVI plug. I'd love to be able to get the less expensive card, but the early 2009 uses different memory than the early 2008.
The cards have been used successfully in Mac Pros older than thiose listed by Apple

"If you didn't buy a new 2009 Mac Pro but want to use the new graphics cards released with the Nehalem Mac Pros, you can buy the GeForce 120 GT and Radeon HD 4870 in kit form from Apple. They both worked in our 2008 Harpertown 3.20GHz Mac Pro as you can see from the graphs above. We also got the Radeon HD 4870 to run in the 2007 Clovertown first generation Mac Pro. A close colleague has one working in the 2006 Woodcrest first generation Mac Pro."

This report says the Radeon HD 4870 Mini DisplayPort didn't work in the older Mac Pros, but hat may be fixed when 10.5.7 appears.

  • Cannot connect from Mac Pro late 2013 to Macbook Pro

Cannot connect from Mac Pro late 2013 to Macbook Pro . I have tried via ethernet and wifi. I can connect from the MBP to the Mac Pro but not vice versa. I have tried to connect to other MBP's on the same network with no luck. I try and connect as a registered user, as I usually do, with no luck. When I enter the Username and then Password the box vibrates as if the details are incorrect, they are not however.
    Thanks in advance
    Jeff

It is 'just not working' again.
To answer you question. Other sharing services work. I can connect as a guest. I can share screens. I cannot air drop.
I cannot connect either way now i.e. from Mac Pro to MBP and vice versa.
I cannot connect to my wife MBP either. My wife cannot connect to my Mac Pro.
It neither works with wifi or ethernet cable.
I can connect to my Time Capsule directly and Time Machine backups are working.
    The passwords are 100% correct.
The Mac Pro is a late 2013. Does anyone else have a similar problem? I have never suffered this one before. Seriously effecting my workflow
    Thanks

  • ESATA: connecting 2 mac pro's via esata to each other

has anyone tried to connect 2 mac pro's via esata directly to each other (instead of the slower ethernet connection)? i was hoping to install esata cards into the pci-express slots into 2 mac pros and instead of the usual ethernet connection between the 2 so they can file share, i was hoping for a faster estata connection if that is possible. would i see the computers in the usual finder window under "shared?" note: the mac pro's would be physically close to each other, so cable length connection is a non issue.

Hopefully no one would try this.
NAS or FiberChannel like Apple did with XRAID.
OS X client is not designed to handle file-locking and device sharing, not in this manner.

  • What is the best blue-ray drive for my Mac Pro????

What is the best blue-ray drive for my Mac Pro????
I wanted a BWU-200S but it says windows only i called apple
and all they could tell me was logitech....wouldn't tell me a model
    or anything.
I would really like one that does all the formats and feature that the
    Sony BWU-200S does.
I read that the BWU-200S might work in the mac pro it just only comes with
windows software. If anyone has tried this let me know please i need this soon.

This site makes Mac compatible Blueray drives:
    http://store.fastmac.com/index.php?cPath=10252
The questions to ask them is:
    1. Which applications can be used to burn bluray movies from it?
    2. Which applications can be used to playback commercial bluray from it?
    3. Does it let you burn DVDs from iDVD, iTunes and the Finder as well as CDs and CD-RWs?
    4. Does it support both DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL for burning and playback?
    5. Does it allow for booting from the system installer that shipped with the machine and running the hardware test that shipped with the machine?
    6. Do you get to keep the original optical drive in case you want to troubleshoot if system issues are due to their drive?
Some of these may already be on the website, I just haven't taken the time to look it completely over.

  • How to connect a mac pro A1186 to 27" cinema display

Hello! Trying to connect a newer display to older mac pro.
Have a mac pro A1186, want to connect it to a 27" Cinema display. Any way to do this? I've read that there needs to be a female-mini-to-male-dvi converter, and that those don't exist?
    Any suggestions or help?
    Thank you!

    Hello,
A new graphics card wouldn't be a bad idea; but if you don't want to go this route, I know from experience that the Altona DVI to Mini DisplayPort Converter works all right. It is discontinued now, but I'm sure a few of them can still be had through eBay or another similar source. I bought and used one to connect a 2006 Mac Mini to a 27" Cinema Display a while back. Hope this helps.
