Best tv for non-hd viewing

I'm in the market for a new TV but do not have HD channels and really do not plan on getting them. I now have a Toshiba CRT tv and for standard broadcast it is great, it's defiantly not HD but still very good. Im looking for a TV (LCD or Plasma) that will give me similar results . Thanks , Tony

A 60hz tv will not delay the gameplay of the wii due to a couple reasons. The wii does not run off of 60 hz, it's actually a little slower. The 60hz processing speed pertains to High Definition speeds and the wii console runs of standard definition. This means that the tv will have a speed that tops out at 60hz and the wii is not running at that fast of a speed. High definition cable/satellite runs of 60hz, and high definition sports and movies (especially blu ray movies) run of 120hz. If you were to have a 60hz tv and were running a blu ray player on it, then you would see a delay or more then likely trailing behind fast action due to the fact that the tv is trying to keep up with the image moving across it.
As for selecting a high definition tv and running standard definition on it, all images will look grainy unfortunately. There is no point in spending more money on a 1080p if you're not planing on upgrading to high definition, so I'd say a 720p is enough. If you were interested in watching movies on a blu ray player or streaming movies through netflix, then these are ways you can see a clear picture on the high definition tv, otherwise most channels you watch in standard definition on a high definition tv will have two black bars down the sides of the screen. This is the tv's way of compensating for the lower signal so that your picture is not further stretched or distorted. Without those bars, the picture would look worse.
Hopefully this helps a little and can help you in making a tv selection. My parents have a wii and a 60hz tv and there are no problems and it is simply hooked up with rca cables. If you hooked up a dvd player and there was no delay, then there would be no delay on the wii either due to the rca cable speed being the same.

Which one of these pages offers me the best bang for my buck? I currently am using a Sony that's about a year old. It has 8 GB of RAM, an I5 2410M at 2.30 GHz, and Intel HD Graphics 3000, It's a 14.4 inch screen. I use it for gaming, watching and streaming movies, word processing and productivity, and internet browsing. I'd prefer to have 8GB of RAM in the new computer.

OK. It was just that the one you had seemed like a decent machine already.
The prices seem so close that I would be inclined to go with the refurb i7 / 8GB RAM / 750GB storage model. But all the models have more CPU and disk space than you need for the tasks you listed, except maybe gaming where Macs are usually weak because of the graphics card. But I guess since you had an Intel 3000 graphics card the 4000 isn't a step back.
You can also save money by getting one of the 4GB RAM models and putting in a cheap non-Apple RAM upgrade yourself, ordering it from a place like OWC:

One note about Apple. I wouldn't buy refurbs from most companies, but the Apple refurb program is top-notch. They are like new, and come with a full warranty. I've had Apple refurbs that were 100% reliable, and "new" models I paid full price for that needed warranty service.

  • What is the best technique for resetting a view?

I was wondering what is the best technique for resetting the initial state of a view?
I am creating a form and want to provide a reset button for the user.  I could write an initialize() method that my action handler calls, but I am wondering if the framework already provides this functionality in a more elegant way.
If I write an initialize method, then I have to manually populate my fields with my context mappings in my initialize() code to mimic what happens automatically by the framework the first time the view is called.  This seems prone to error since this is duplicating the mapping logic.
    Michael

    Hi,
Even though it boils down to the same logic, for consistency sake it is good to have the initialization logic coded in the inbound plug method and then to call the outbound plug on reset. This make more sense when you have multiple navigation possible to the same view through multiple inbound plugs.
    Else, have an initialization method.
PS: check whether the reset() method of IWDContext make sense. This is helpful when you have remove dynamically added nodes and attributes.

  • What's the best APP for remote desktop viewing?

There are so many ... !
Also, what's the best app for file sharing between ipad and computer? Thanks!

Yeah, I guess doing extensive editing with DTG isn't much fun. The only way to get it from DTG to Pages is to email the file from DTG to yourself. DTG lets you email any of its files. Then from the iPad's email, open the file in Pages (when you open the document there will be an "Open in Pages" button on the top right). However, the only way to get it back into DTG is to again email the Pages file back to yourself (as a Word file), open it from your computer, replace the old file with this one and then resync with DTG.
There's also a bug in DTG's reader which tends to cut off one side of the doc when you scroll thru it. Hopefully DTG will have an update soon. They say it's coming on their app page. I think you'll be much happier with it when that happens.
Go to App Support from the App page of FileBrowser in the App Store. There on the right of the opening web page you'll see setup instructions for the Mac and Windows XP (the Windows XP instructions work pretty much the same way for everything up to and including Windows 7). That should get you up and running with FileBrowser. It's really pretty easy once you know what to put in those blanks.
Sorry you're not happy with these. Hope they get to be a better experience for you. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have.

  • Is iCal best choice for Non-Profit shared calendar?

Non-profit has need for shared calendar ($$ always an issue). Is a .mac account for each employee really necessary? Multiple users need to be able to access and update the calendar. Any/all thoughts, ideas, suggestions would be appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
iCal does not lend itself to use by multiple users - dotmac syncing is really only for the individual to maintain calendars across many devices, rather than many users on many devices.
In my opinion, you'd be best signing up for a Google Calendar account each and then sharing a calendar between you. If you want this to show up on your mac, you can sync using one of the commercially available apps if you need to edit locally - Spanning Sync springs to mind - or to view in iCal by simply subscribing to the Google Calendar.
You'll be able to get help on all this from the Google forums.
    Good luck!

  • OVD best practices for app-specific views?

I have a requirement to create app-specific views of joined (OID+AD) ldap directory data. It occurs to me that logically I could take 2 approaches to this as laid out below as option1 & 2. Although I'm not sure how to actually create option 2. I've listed the adapters i'd construct, the adapter type, and name/purpose of each. The end product of each option is 2 join adapters that present different app-specific views derived from the same source ldap data. Each join adapter would be consumed by different apps and present different subsets and transformations of that directory data.
    OPTION1:
    1 ldap oid1
    2 ldap ad1
    3 ldap oid2
    4 ldap ad2
    5 join oid1+ad1 (for app1)
    6 join oid2+ad2 (for app2)
    OPTION2:
    1 ldap oid1
    2 ldap ad1
    3 ? oid2 (a transformed subtree derived from oid1)
    4 ? ad2 (a transformed subtree derived from ad1)
    5 ? oid3 (a transformed subtree derived from oid1)
    6 ? ad3 (a transformed subtree derived from ad1)
    7 join oid2+ad2 (for app1)
    8 join oid3+ad3 (for app2)
With option 1, i would create create 2 OID and 2 AD adapters; repeating the connectivity configuration for each; and each adapter once deployed is going to establish its own pool of ldap connections to the source ldap servers. this is a little clunky as you scale it beyond the initial two app-specific views, and leaves me a little concerned about how well this model scales considering each ldap adapter is going to setup its own pool of connections. i.e. with 5 app-specific view to construct, i'd have 5 OID and 5 AD pools... seems to somewhat defeat the whole point of pooling.
Option 2 is predicated on the idea of creating 1 single ldap adapter in ovd for oid and another single one for ad; then create secondary adapters which pull and transform data from those two primary source adapters. No matter how many secondary OID & AD adapters I create, only the two primary adapters actually have pooled connections to OID and AD. The advantage here clearly is in how we manage and limit how many pools we are setting up. But I'm not sure what kind of adapter to use for oid2/3 and ad2/3. I looked at using a join adapter, configured not to actually join anything, but rather just pull from a single primary adapter, but I couldn't see any way to change the subtree being pulled from the primary adapter. The alternative might be to create ldap adapters that connect to oid1 and ad1... a loopback approach... but this gets us into pools on top of pools. Again, a little clunky.
Any thoughts or recommendations with regard to best practices here?

I haven't done this, so I haven't solved the problem as such. But those organizations who I've seen mention it either just get free apps via this process:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
or use a corporate credit card with the accounts. You can use a single credit card for all the accounts, to the best of my knowledge. There's also a Volume Purchase Plan for businesses which can simplify matters:
    http://www.apple.com/business/vpp/
I believe that a redemption code obtained through this program can be used to set up an iTunes Store account, but I'm not certain.

  • What is the best resolution for adding and viewing pictures/images in ibooks?

I'm trying to add pictures/images and I was wondering what the best resolution is for viewing?  Any help would be great.

iBook Author seems to scale the images automagically during the book generation, so targeting iPad's native resolution should be fine.
Havign said that, I'm currently creating art based on the assumption the next generation of the device will have double resolution screen, so a photograph should be scaled to 2048x1536 pixels if you want it to be full screen at 1:1 pixel mapping.
If you're creating widgets, the art (probably) won't be scaled, and you'll need to use the pixel dimensions you want the art to appear on screen.

  • Best place for non-timecoded media?

I store all of my video clips on my external media drive. But what about graphics, music, stills, etc? Should I place these on my internal for storage for ongoing projects?
    Best.
    Tom

My preference is to keep as much as possible in the same event and on the same drive. Although I can't prove it, my theory is that having files scattered across different drives and different events during the editing process contributes to the frequency of beachballs and crashes.
But if at the end of the project, stuff is scattered, or I can't remember what and where stuff resides, FCP has some archiving tools that collect and organize files into a single location.
Duplicate a project (the BU). Select Duplicate Project and Used Clips from the dialogue window. Create a new event (leave the render file box unchecked unless you have more storage space than you will ever need.
Go into FCP menu>File>Organize Event Files and all the files that relate to the project being archived will be collected and put in the location you chose.

  • IPhone 5 Newbie-Best way for non-tech savvy to start?

I'm a non tech savvy 60 something lady who has just switched from an old flip phone to the iPhone 5 16gb (yesterday!) with Verizon. What would be the best use of my time to learn how it all works? I want to get good at making and receiving calls, sending and receiving texts, backing up my phone, knowing how to protect and extend the battery life, etc. Thanks in advance!

Thanks! This morning, battery is low so I figure out I'd better learn how to charge it quickly. First, I had to figure out how to take it out of my Otter Box to find where to charge it. Then, I plugged my home charger in the phone and the electrical outlet, but nothing seems to be happening. My battery symbol just has a little thin red line showing. I tried calling Verizon and they told me to take it back to the store where I bought it. I tried calling Apple, but they wanted my phone serial number and I don't know where to find it. Is it the number on the box, or the one engraved on the back of the phone, or the numbers on my store purchase receipt? I know you experienced users think I must be dense, but this is all making me crazy!

  • Best output for non disk use

I have several closely related questions about Adobe Premier.
When I work with standard definition video and Adobe Premier, I have always been producing video DVDs. I start with digital video on DVCPro, Mini-DV or DVCam tapes and play them via firewire into a computer where I capture it using Adobe Premier. Premier creates an .avi file. Later when I add titles and output from Premier for Encore, Premier creates a separate .m2v and .wav file which Encore uses to make the DVD.
My first question is: Is this .avi file the highest quality format that Premier can capture to ? Are there capture quality settings ? the reason I ask this is because i never thought of an .avi file as being abroadcast quality format and have been suspicious of it since i started using Premier nearly 10 years ago.
I have always been very unhappy with the degradation in quality when making DVDs. This is of course understandable considering the Digital video, which looks very good, is recorded at 25 megabytes per second, while a DVD uses quite a bit less. I have been very dissapointed that no standard has yet to be created for using Blu Ray disks for standard definition video. A Blu Ray disk could hold full quality digital standard definition video, and could hold a lot of it. So I have been considering foregoing the many advantages of an optical disk, and instead, or in addition to, producing files for playback from a video server.
My second question is: Can a video server play back separate video and audio files as one ?
My third question is: If my intention is not to use Encore to produce a DVD but instead to produce a file for server playback, what is the highest quality format Premier can output that is likely to play back on a video server ?
I also use Premier to produce HD video, which I have been putting onto Blu Ray disks. I have been very happy with the quality of the final disk product. I don't know how much better this video could look if I didn't compress it for the disk. I have no way at this time to play anything on a HD TV that isn't on a Blu Ray disk. I start with either XDCamEx video files or streams of uncompressed 1080 tifs. Premier then creates a separate H.264 (.m4v) and.wav file, which Encore turns into an .iso file from which i make the Blu Ray disk.
My fourth question: If I were not outputting HD video from Premier to send to Encore for making a Blu Ray disk, what is the highest quality 1080 format Premier can output which is likely to play back on a video server ?

at this time h265 is one of a few codecs missing from adobe's software. if you want to encode to h265 you can look at a free encoder, called handbrake. it doesn't work with adobe's software directly, so you will have to use it to re-encode an exported video from premiere/ame.
h.265 was chosen as the codec for 4k/uhd blurays, this doesn't mean 4k tv's that play media files will support it. its still somewhat new, so there might be some tv's that lack this support. if you are planning on taking media on thumb drives to other places, you might look at h264 for the most compatibility.  if you are just playing this media on your tv, then you just need to figure out what you will use as the media player.  some smart tv's will do this, some bluray players can, and then there are dedicated media players like the Sony FMP X10. the sony isn't really a media "server", as much as a media "player". the sony media player has a 1tb hdd inside, so it stores the media itself rather than needing a separate media server to hold the media.
the Sony FMP X10 may be fine for what you need, but its pretty expensive for a player with only a 1tb hdd inside. there are bluray players that output 4k/uhd, for under $300 that will also act as a media player. if you already have one check if it does any playback from a networked computer or a usb hdd. however those bluray players may only support hd files, vs 4k media files. finding a media player that supports 4k media files and h265 like the sony says it does, might be more difficult. there are other 4k media players with no internal hdd. they use a network media server and some support usb hdds. 4k is very new still, so there will be more 4k media players coming to market, to push prices down.
the internal or usb hdd's are the simplest solution vs setting up software on a computer to stream files over a network. if media collection requires multiple hdd's then using a computer to hold all the hdd's and stream the videos over a network, can be a good option. there are many media players and media servers, and alot of features that each can offer. if you haven't already, look up guides, tutorials, reviews, etc, to help figure out what you want to do.

  • Discuss best settings for non-DSLR camera - Bird shots.

    Hello All,
I want inhanced feather defination, especially for white birds.  I usually take shots before 11AM and between 3PM and sunset.
Owner of a Canon Power Shot SX50 HS.    I like the 50X zoom, but maybe I zoom in too much or birds are to far away.

If you don't understand what RAW is & why it's so useful Adobe has a pretty nice explination here.

When you but a camera that produces jpg's you trust the built in software to do an acceptable job at converting the RAW data to a nice jpg, but every brand of camera uses different standards in trying to please it's customers. Some favor greener greens, some bluer blues for the shy etc. When you shoot RAW you can fine tune the exposure & the tints, brightness etc & create as many different jpg's from the original data as you'd like. You never modify the RAW data, you simply use it as the starting point of each image.

  • Best-practice for Catalog Views ? :|

    Hello community,
    A best practice question:
The situtation: I have several product categories (110), several items in those categories (4000) and 300 end-users.    I would like to know which is the best practice for segment the catalog.   I mean, some users should only see categories 10,20 & 30.  Other users only category 80, etc.    The problem is how can I implement this ?
    My first idea is:
    1. Create 110 Procurement Catalogs (1 for every prod.category).   Each catalog should contain only its product category.
    2. Assign in my Org Model, in a user-level all the "catalogs" that the user should access.
Do you have any idea in order to improve this ?
    Saludos desde Mexico,
    Diego

    Hi,
Your way of doing will work, but you'll get maintenance issues (to many catalogs, and catalog link to maintain for each user).
The other way is to built your views in CCM, and assign these views to the users, either on the roles (PFCG) or on the user (SU01). The problem is that with CCM 1.0 this is limitated, cause you'll have to assign one by one the items to each view (no dynamic or mass processes), it has been enhanced in CCM 2.0.
    My advice:
-Challenge your customer about views, and try to limit the number of views, with for example strategic and non strategic
-With CCM 1.0 stick to the procurement catalogs, or implement BADIs to assign items to the views (I experienced it, it works, but is quite difficult), but with a limitated number of views
    Good luck.

  • What is the best practice for changing view states?

I have a component with two Pie Charts that display
percentages at two specific dates (think start and end values).
But, I have three views: Start Value only, End Value only, or show
Both. I am using a ToggleButtonBar to control the display. What is
the best practice for changing this kind of view state? Right now
(since this code was inherited), the view states are changed in an
ActionScript function which sets the visible and includeInLayout
properties on each Pie Chart based on the selectedIndex of the
ToggleButtonBar, but, this just doesn't seem like the best way to
do this - not very dynamic. I'd like to be able to change the state
based on the name of the selectedItem, in case the order of the
ToggleButtons changes, and since I am storing the name of the
    selectedItem for future reference.
Would using States be better? If so, what would be the best
    way to implement this?
    Thanks.

I would stick with non-states, as I have always heard that
states are more for smaller components that need to change under
certain conditions, like a login screen that changes if the user
    needs to register.
That said, if the UI of what you are dealing with is not
overly complex, and if it will not become overly complex, maybe
states is the way to go.
Looking at your code, I don't think you'll save much in terms
    of lines of code.
