Best tv tuner

I just upgraded to Leopard, and I also want to use a tv tuner. I'm choosing between two models: Pinnacle TV's Hybrid USB Stick with eyetv lite, and Elgato Eyetv hybrid. I want to be able to watch and record tv both over the air (for HD) and via cable. Is there really a difference between these two? Pinnacle is about $30 cheaper, but I want to make sure eyetv lite works the same.

Be sure you're okay with the Pinnicle's OTA antenna use only before you make up your mind. Elgato has several models that will work with Cable or Sat.

Best practice tunning parameters for tunning ADF apps?

Hi all,
I am tuning our 11g ADF app for around 3 billions (can be up to 10 billions records) and the concurrent connections up to 100. The app is running on a 16 core Intel chip and 8GB of RAM. The Weblogic used Rockit JDK. Any one have this experience please share and help me! I am considering what is the top ten crucial parameters for this tuning. Up to now I just have tunned some parameters from OS layer to app layers:
- indexing for queries
- open cursors, processes and pga memory
- share pool for app module and jdbc pooling.
- heap size of JVM memory only max value 1024 because of 32 bit Windows (Perhaps I must upgrade to 64 bit OSs to use more memory)
The app was tested with Jmeter with only 10 concurrent connection and the test case is logging in and query and logging out. It ran very slow. I found out that the weblogic server did not use CPUs equally (only 1-2 CPus were used)

Best tv tuner for MacBook

I was looking into getting a tv tuner for my macbook. I have read alot of reviews about a couple products. I have seen both good and bad. Has anyone had success with a certain one? What one do you think is the best?

I use Elgato's Hybrid. Works great, allows you to record, edit and export to various formats. You can also capture the video from VHS/DVDs and burn to DVD with built-in Toast. A little bit bigger then a thumbdrive with a USB plug.

hi everyone out there, just need a quick answer, really nothing too complicated
firstly i have a mega 865 and have installed windows media center 2005 on it (all is well )
but now i want to connect it to my plasma screen that is hd ready
i play games like doom 3 and also want to watch my downloaded movies via the mega
which graphic card would you kind people recommend as there are hundreds out there and a bit confused
also i want to record tv on to the mega from my sky box (digital )and from my aerial (analogue ) can you recomend a good tv tuner card

This is the same question I posted a few weeks ago. Someone recommended me the radeon 9600xt so I bought the gfx card that appears on my signature. You need to add a little fan besides the card (and the radio module) to extract hot air, as the card completely blocks the airflow. The card works really fine!!
Express card? Do you mean PCI Express? That is a new type of expansion slot and, of course, it's not compatible with AGP cards so, if your mobo have a pci express slot (and not an agp one), you have to buy a pci express card. That isn't the case of our Megas (only have one AGP slot and one old PCI)
And the difference between full an half size is, of couse, how large is the card. The more little, the better airflow. Not sure but, in addition, I think that full size cards don't fit inside Megas.

What's the best TV tuner?

I've just bought a Mac Mini to use as a media centre and I have a Miglia TV Mini that picks up digital freeview (UK) but im wondering if there are any good products out there that can give you sky+ like functionality?
Im looking to watch TV whilst recording another channel at the same time etc... I can't seem to find anything out there to do the job....
Can you connect 2 TV mini's at the same time to get the sky+ effect working?

That's the one I was looking at. Do you know if you need 2 aerial feeds directly from your roof aerial or does it work ok if you split the feed that already exists? (I have quite a strong signal).
Also, do you know if its possible to have 2 tuners plugged in instead of dual tuner? I already have one so if I can just plug another in i'd probably go for that option!

I think I am going to get the New 30GB I pod with color display, but I wont get it for a few months...i have been getting ready to get it by down loading and labeling all my songs onto a play list in windows media player because I want to have it all ready to down load when I get my ipod. Is it possible to take it another step and down load the latest I-tunes and transfer them all into it so when I actually get it the will all just automaticaly transfer in when i plug it in the USB port?????

Yes John, you can do that. I used iTunes well before I got my iPod and found it to be very useful. You can also browse Podcasts (and listen to them of course if you have net connection) as well as listen to radio streams (dito..). Once you get your iPod, you can then choose whether to transfer your songs from your computer into your iPoid either automatically or manually (manually, by dragging them in whatever folder called Playlists that you've created).
There is a PC version of iTunes and a Mac version as well. But there is only one kind of iTunes. In other words, if you have a PC, then there is only one version of iTunes available to you (no iTunes "Lite" or whatever...). And the current version is compatible with videos, music and "the whole works" as you put it. If someone does not have the new iPod (called iPod 5G - for Fifth Generation - or video iPod) then one would just not use the video part of iTunes, that's all. Everything else functions as per normal otherwise.

I have an HP Elitebook 8560w that has windows 8.1 installed on it. I was wanting to take advantage of the a limits to record live TV. I was curious as to what would be the best TV tuner to add to my setup, whether it's expresscard or usb. I have digital cable from Time Warner Cable and I'm located in the United States. Any suggestions as to what I should get? I would like to be able to record analog or digital channels on the laptop without just capturing the incoming feed from my set-top box.

Which TV-tuner card for MEGA 180

Hello,
Just wondering which is the best tv-tuner card for the MEGA 180 which still enables the use of the original remote control.
I know the MS-8606-040 provides this but seems rather basic, the other model (MS-8606-010, TV@anywhere card) comes with its own remote control but can you use the one provided with the 180?
Any other makes which do the job?

The reason for this is the Microsoft requirement that any recording does not use more than 50% of the CPU processing time, hence I think you will find that all have a hardware MPEG2 encoder built in (that's why they are mostly the PVR versions).

Increase in CPU Utilization after migration from APEX 3.1.2 to APEX 3.2

Hi Mark,
Take a look at some of the usage reports within APEX (sessions, page views etc) to get an overall feel for where the time is being consumed.
You'll also find it useful if you can run a statspack report (or AWR, ASH etc) during a busy period to be able to drill down into where that CPU is being spent.
There's no magic answers here unfortunately, you need to track it down to where the time is being spent before working back up to find out where best to tune it.

Making Siebel Run Fast with Oracle CBO – New PPS Recommendation - optimizer

Hi All,
I have some good news if you are upgrading to Oracle CBO. This is a big new find that we discovered a few weeks back.
There is a certain class of queries that run very slow with the default Siebel recommended settings. Please keep in mind that in order to properly do explain plans in 10G with Siebel SQL you need to issue the following alter session statements. Also if you are using TOAD you have to uncheck the run queries in parallel since if that option is checked a new session will be launched and your options won’t be set.

The key new find is that the Oracle recommendation of setting optimizer_index_cost_adj = 1 is wrong! Our new recommendation is to set this parameter to 10.
Here are some more details. This is not a silver bullet for all your Oracle performance tuning issues. Remember it is best to tune specific things that are slow from an end users perspective. In fact that is how we discovered this issue and its solution.
There is one specific class of queries that this setting will fix. You can issue alter session statements to see the difference in your explain plans. Here is how you will know the query:
•     Where clause on an intersection table and index that exists that would find just one row. This is the index we want Oracle to use.
•     Order by on BC base table and another index exists that would satisfy the order by. We don’t want to use this index since millions of rows would be accessed.
•     Explain plan shows the index for the order by is used instead of the index for the where clause that would have found a single row.
Here is the actual statement we encountered that lead to our discovery.

In addition at OOW this week we heard that an Oracle RAC expert presented Siebel on RAC and recommended setting this parameter back to its default of 100. We also talked with a very senior DBA colleague who made the same discovery over a year ago and is running with is parameter set to 25.
I can tell you that for us any setting from 1-9 gave the bad access path. 10 fixes the issue.
This find is so important that we wanted to get this out to the Siebel community ASAP.

With oica = 1 the m1 index is used and this runs a long time. With oica = 10 m6 is used and that clearly is the index Oracle wants to use since it matches the where clause exactly.

SQL queries !! Guru's please help !!

I've tried my best to tune the query but i still takes whopping 1 hour to complete. I am currently on 9.2.0.7 and PROMOTION_HISTORY tables doesn't run using parallelism. Hence i've forced it to use FULL table scan with parallel degree.
There are indexes created on for both CU10 and CV01 table but the response time is still quite high. CU10 has 56 million , CV01 has 50 million and Promotion_history has 10 million records.
I know there are Guru's out there, who probably think that the SQL can be better written ? If so, please can you suggest a better way of writing this ?

Install A3000 FM tuner on S6000 - I found a link to the A3000 FM tuner software which was easily installed onto the S6000.
I can't remember where I saw the reference - maybe on this site but google for A3000 FM tuner apk or software and you should find the article and link to the software.
It works great and is the best FM tuner I have used, ever! Very sensitive, easy to tune with lots of preset slots for quick tuning.
Please remember though that you must have the earphones or a link cable plugged into the S6000 earphone socket to work as an aerial. If I recall correctly, you can switch playback between earphones and the onboard loudspeakers or use the bluetooth function to transmit to offboard loudspeakers.
