Best ups for my new imac 27" - late 2013?

have an imac 27" late 2013, can anybody suggest the best  UPS for my Imac (and for india)

There is no "best", personally I have used an APC ES750 and have been very pleased. Things to look for are how many devices you intend to plug into the UPS, the computer, perhaps backup HD's etc.. Don't plug in items like printer, or other non essential devices. Other items to consider are how much battery life to you want with when the power does fail. Don't get caught up in the sine wave discussion, it's not essential not practical.

    Dear Mr. Z,
    Thank you for contacting APC.
The compatibility of the UPS with an OS is dependant on the installed management software the UPS communicates with.
    1. BR900GI - PowerChute Personal - no compatibility with OSX, please find the compatibility chart below:
    http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/JNOE-7GSAQJ/JNOE-7GSAQJ_R11_EN.pdf
    2. SUA750I - PowerChute Business Edition - no compatibility with OSX, please find the compatibility chart below:

Alternately, if you install a network management card (AP9630 or AP9631) in the SUA750I, it will be able to communciate with the PowerChute Network Shutdown software. This is compatible with Mac OS X Server 10.7.2 x64:

  • Which is the best UPS for my 2011 iMac?

I was using my iMac tonight and it randomly shut off. My APC UPS started beeping wildly. I reset it and the replace battery light was on so I think it is pretty much dead. It went 5 years so thats nice though. It was a 800VA model which was nowhere near full.
So I'm looking at a new UPS unit. APC lately seems much more expensive then other brands, and I had too many kernal panics in the past with that power chute software. I'm thinking of trying a Cyberpower model instead. 800VA or 1000VA depending on how close the prices are.
My concern is sine wave vs simulated sine wave. I have a 2011 iMac (22" Intel Core i5, 16GB ram, 1TB hard disk). I won't be running on battery power much, it's only in case of emergency. For example if I'm using the system and the power goes out during a major rain storm. I'd like to avoid the whole buzzing issue I hear about online, and any other issues that might creep up.
What would you suggest? If the difference was small, I'd go for sine wave instead of simulated. But if it's $50 to $75 or more, I'm starting to lean towards simulated sine wave.
I'm currently considering the Cyberpower CPR1000AVRLCD and the CP1000PFCLCD. My unit that died was a APC Back-UPS RS 800.

APC is a fine brand and probably the most recommended on these forums. One major error I see you made is to install PowerShute, it's simply not compatible with OS X and should not be installed. You should contact APC Tech Support for instructions on how to correctly uninstall it. I think once you do if your KP's are related they will go away. You should handle this first, don't just trash the software, that will not get rid of it. You need to follow APC's uninstall instructions, I know because I found out the hard way.
If all that is wrong is the battery has died then simply get a replacment battery. You can buy replacements from APC or from a battery distributor, I've even seen them on EBay. They're about like car batteries, when they go dead you replace it.

  • Windows for my new imac

i want to install and use Adobe Acrobat X Suit (ONLY avail for Windows... ;-(...)
what is the best solution for my new iMac so i can install this windows only program....?
    REQUIRES:
•Microsoft® Windows® XP Home, Professional, or Tablet PC Edition with Service Pack 3 (32 bit and 64 bit); Windows Server® 2003 (32 bit and 64 bit; Service Pack 2 required for 64 bit)*; Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2 (32 bit and 64 bit); Windows Vista® Home Basic or Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 2 (32 bit and 64 bit); Windows 7 Starter, Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise (32 bit and 64 bit)

    Hi,
the Windows Server and Tablet editions are not supported to be installed on a Mac using BootCamp.
XP is 10+ years old and I wouldn't recommend buying it nowadays.
On the other hand if you have a valid XP license lying around, why not use it.
Vista is a "nice-try" but not worth installing.
So that leaves Windows 7 and I would recommend getting Home Premium 64-bit.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • New Mac Pro (Late 2013) and Motion

Although Final Cut Pro is optimized for the new Mac Pro (Late 2013), the current Motion 5.1 apparently is not.  Even when turning the render settings down, the playback of a complex motion sequence within Motion was extremely choppy.  When exporting to a ProRes file, only four to six of the available 12 threads ony my 6-core system were being only partially utilized.   I have 64 GB RAM and dual D700s with nothing else running, so system resources are plentiful.  Any suggestions out there?  Hopefully there will be an update to bring it up to speed.

The sequence I am rendering in Motion is definately complicated, with about 100 differencet images on a moving wall with reflections and multiple other effects.  This definitely pushes the system alot but I was able to use the same sequence on a very old Mac Pro (2006) and a i7 Hackintosh with an Apple 5870 card overclocked to 4 GHz without this severe stuttering on playback within Motion.  There is no shortage of memory on the new Mac Pro with 64 GB RAM and D700s with 6 GB VRAM, running all files on the main internal SSD.  Very strange.

No. Target Display mode is only supported when connected to a Mac running 10.6 or later.
It cannot be used with a PC, bootcamp, gamaing console, cable box, DVR or PowerPC Mac.

  • Preparing for a new iMac

    Hi,
I currently have an iMac from 2008 (running Leopard) and will be buying a new iMac next month.  I'm not sure which iMac is the best option for me.  I know I want the 21.5 inch screen, but i'm not sure if I should get the base model and upgrade the ram, or stick with the 2nd level model with no upgrades (I don't want to go over $1500.00 before taxes.  My current model only has 1GB of memory, and i've never had an issue with it, so I'm thinking 16GB would be quite a significant difference - am I right?  If I go with the 2nd model, the processer would be better but still only has 8GB of ram.  My daily use of the computer is simply internet use, e-mail, iMovie, iDVD (which I know I won't have anymore), and iTunes.  I don't play games but I guess the most powerful thing I use is iMovie (capturing video as well).
Any Suggestions?  I'm not sure which model to go for.
Also,  I currently use Time Machine to back up my computer to an external harddrive.  I do not want my new computer to be a mirror image of the one I currently have.  I only want iTunes and iPhoto to stay the same.  How can this be done?  Is it possible to use the same external hard drive for back up of the new computer also?  I'd like to keep the old back up, and have a new one started for the new iMac.  Will Time Machine simply start a new backup and leave the old folder as is?  I'd like to keep it incase I ever want to get something from the old computer.
    Thanks in advance!

8 GB of memory are enough for your uses, so you will have enough memory. Anyway, although Apple says that the Late 2012 21'5-inch iMac memory isn't replaceable, you can add more memory (it's difficult and you will void the warranty, but you can add memory) > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/2012_21.5/DDR3L
When you want to restore a Time Machine backup, the Mac will ask you what you want to restore, so select only the folders you want to restore. For example, the iTunes library is stored in Music folder, so tick your Music folder, and iPhoto library is stored in Pictures folder, so tick the Pictures folder. You can unmark the rest of the folders.
Note that you will be running a new operating system, so Time Machine will have to make a full backup of your Mac with all changes from Leopard to OS X Mountain Lion (near everything of Mac OS X)

  • How can i use my old iMac as a extended desktop display for my new iMac?

I recently purchased a 21.5 in iMac and wanted to use my old iMac as a extended desktop. My new iMac has thunderbolt and USB 3.0 connections while my old iMac has firewire (400 and 800), USB 2.0 and mini-DVI. Is this posible?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your iMac has got Mini-DVI, you have a 17, 20 or 24-inch iMac that doesn't support Target Display. Late 2009 and Mid 2010 27-inch iMacs, and iMacs with Thunderbolt can be used as external displays. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If your old iMac doesn't support Target Display mode, you can use ScreenRecycler to use your old iMac as an extended display for the new iMac. The only thing you need is that both Macs are connected to the same network

  • HT1175 I am trying to setup my Time capsule via a ethernet cable as a back up for a new iMac. The on button on the time capsule set up window keeps failing to stay on. Any ideas what to do?

I am trying to setup my Time capsule via a ethernet cable as a back up for a new iMac. The on button on the time capsule set up window keeps failing to stay on. Any ideas what to do?

A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

  • Vmware fusion 5.0.2 cannot connect to network on my brand new iMac '27 late 2012

    Dear friends,
I have tried to install Windows 8 (x64bit) Pro., Windows XP, and CentOS 6.0 using vmware fusion 5.0.2 over my brand new iMac '27 late 2012. However, neither one can connect to the Internet. There was no problem with the same installation on my iMac 2011.
The network board recognized by Windows 8 is Intel(R) 82574L Gigabit Network Connection.
In the folder of vmware fusion's setting files on Mac OS, I found a file called Windows 8 x64.vmx, and
there is a line as follows.
    ethernet0.virtualDev ="e1000e"
Any friend has the same problem or can give me some hints?
    Thanks a lot!

I like the idea of auto back-up for my new iMac, Ipad and PC Netbook, particularly if I can access all files and data stored on any device.  But I have a Conceptronic router.
    1. Will Time Capsule work with this and how?
    2. Can my printer USB be plugged in and then shared between the devices?
    3. Can I create a network and how?
    4.  What happend when a visitor logs onto my existing wireless router?
I'm new to Macs (well a returning user having started with Mac Plus!!) and not very technical.  Any help / advice will be much appreciated.
    Ray

The key to what you seem to want to do is to be able to get Apple's Time Capsule router to "join" the network that your Conceptronic router.  I believe that works with some third-party routers, but I've never seen a list of those that work in such a configuration and I have no experience with Conceptronic equipment.
You might be better off with a Network-Attached Storage (NAS) device instead of a Time Capsule.

I'm trying to set up a dual monitor for my new iMac. I'm using a second display I used with my old G5. My iMac recognizes the second monitor but the monitor won't turn on. Power button doesn't do anything on the monitor itself.

If it won't turn on then the monitor is dead (power supply?, video circuits?).  Not worth repairing.
If you have a new iMac then it has thunderbolt.  So exactly what is that monitor you are trying to connect?  For TB you can connect a mini-displayport monitor.   Probably (not 100% sure with TB) can use dvi or vga too if you have the appropriate adapter.
