Best USB 2.0 Hub to use with iPods?

I am using my Mac Mini as my iTunes station, and I have fixe iPods that are connected to my
master iTunes Station.
Recently I needed to add a USB drive to add more space to the mini.
Along with a wireless keyboard ( that uses a USB transmuting dongle)
I am short two USB ports. Can anyone recommend a good USB hub
that is compatible with iPod Touch, iPod Mini, IPod Shuffle, iPod Classic 30GB,
and iPod Classic 160GB for itunes?

Anyone have any luck with this hub:

looks like the White Belkin one, but is on Amazon for about half the price, and
other than being brown, I don't see a difference?

  • Fastest and best external hard disks for video use with Imac?

What is the fastest and best external hard disks for video use with Imac (I believe it is currently not possible to use Esata on the Imac).

For DVCam. HDV etc, I'm a fan of the G-raid drives. From personal experience they
are very solid performers. I only had one issue with a new drive that was replaced
next day. They are not the cheapest drives to be found but the build quality
    is excellent. Check out:

  • Good USB 3.0 hub to work with rMBP?

Can anyone recommend a good functioning and durable USB 3.0 hub that will work with my last year 15" rMBP?  I am running OSX 10.9.
I may also try to sometimes use it with my Haswell MBA.  I want to plug two or three HDD's into the hub. I also want to plug my Dell 27" U2713 USB 3.0 hub into this new hub (as a hub chain).   It is really confusing trying to get a good one since there are so many to choose from...  Thanks!

  • Best speed External Hard Drive to use with Final Cut Pro X ?

    Hey all
I'm looking at getting a new USB 2.0 external hard drive to use with FCPX, I was wondering what everyones thoughts were on minimum speeds and what everyone else uses.
I am looking at least 1-2TB.

I will warn you now that I am somewhat of a lone voice on these forums for recommending USB 2.0s.
I have used the 7,200rpm types with their own mains supply over the last 6 years (and exclusively for the last 3) and had no problems of any kind.
Having said that I am not a pro with tight schedules (or underwear!) but I have used DV, HDV, AVCHD with and without ProRes and AIC.
Most of my projects are short though I have done a number of 2 hour projects with comparatively simple editing and a few effects etc. One ongoing project has some 12 hours of DV which I dip into  occasionally.
I have a couple of LaCie FW HDs which I stopped using a couple of years ago in favour of the much cheaper USB 2.0s and didn't notice any difference, though as I said I don't have pro time constraints.
Now is not the best time to buy HDs cheaply as the autumn floods in Asia knocked out many of the main suppliers, prices doubled overnight and have still not got back to last summers figures (2TB WD Essential £69 with free delivery).
    Look at the price now!

  • Best USB 2.0 hub to buy?

I need a USB 2.0 to be able to connect a printer, card reader, and an external drive to.
    Two questions:
    1) what is the best one to buy, or what features should it have?
    2) does a USB 2.0 hub slow down the applications plugged into them (when plugged into the USB 2.0 port)?

    Hi-
1-All you really need is a powered hub with the number of ports you require.
2- If multiple devices operate simultaneously through the hub, the transfer time will increase (performance decrease). This is because the devices all go into one port on the computer, which has a limited capacity. Data transfer, one device at at time, through the hub, will show no decrease in performance.
The following link lists a variety of good hubs, with various features:

A Firewire hard drive would be more advantageous than a USB hard drive.

  • What is the best DVD burner to buy for use with my Mac?

    $129.99 includes Toast 6 Lite
The $129.99 unit that comes with Toast 6 Lite can be found on the web for a lot less. Later, if you outgrow Toast 6 you can upgrade to Toast 8 (which is the latest version).

My experience with Lacie and Sony burners has always been positve and Toast is good to have around, it's always complimented iDVD well (in addition to having a host of other useful features).
    Note:
I'm not familiar with any of Toast 6 lite's features, but I do know you can burn DVD's with it. It adds another means of authoring a DVD outside of iDVD.

  • USB external portable HD for use with FCE and MBP ???????

I've seen a 120 GB USB portable external Seagate HD for $117. Would this be usable as a scratch disk for use with my MBP 2.0 and final cut express HD 3.5. Are there problems with using USB externals? FW external hd's seem to be a good deal more expensive.
    Thanks.
    Maurice

I bought one recently very cheaply to use for general storage.
I found that FCE 3.0 worked perfectly and have been using it ever since instead of my FW HD.
HOWEVER, before you dash out and buy one take note that I have only been tinkering around and experimenting with comparatively short projects of no importance.
I strongly suspect that if I made a long and complicated film I might suffer - so pay the extra and get a FW HD !
Incidentally for normal storage purposes the USB2 HD takes over twice the time to move files back and forth. So even for non-FCE use the Firewire HD is twice as fast.
    Ian.

  • Macbook pro OS 10.7.5, what is the best external back up drive to use with it?

    Hi
I have a Macbook pro OS 10.7.5 and am looking for an external back up drive.  What external back up drives do people recommend?

We don't know which MBP you have so start by establishing what ports you have on the MBP that you can connect an external drive to. It'll have USB ports, but if they're USB 2.0, a full, bootable backup could take a very long time. If it's USB 3.0, backups can go a lot quicker. The USB external HD's are common and relatively inexpensive. If you have a Thunderbolt port, that's very fast but the externals compatible with it tend to be more expensive.
If it's just USB 2.0 and Firewire, Firewire is faster but is being phased out. USB 2.0 is backward compatible with USB 3.0 so when you upgrade to a newer MBP, a USB 3.0 external can plug right in.
Also, unless the external must be really portable, look for one that has a separate power source rather than drawing power from the connection to the Mac, since some externals need more power than the Mac is able or willing to supply.

  • What's the best Gigabit Ethernet ADSL2  modem to use with the new Apple Extreme router?

I Have upgraded to the new Apple Airport Extreme & need to update my old ADSL modem as it only has 10/100 ethernet. I don't want to spend a great deal as I will hopefully be upgrading to fibre later in the year. I find it strange that Apple have never sold them through the Apple Store.
    Thanks in advance.

It would make no sense to recommend a modem that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) does not support, so your first task is to contact your ISP for a list of "approved" modems for use with their service.
Once we have the list, it will be easy to eliminate the non-Gigabit models, since most, if not all, will be not be Gigabit rated.
After all, the fastest speed that any ADSL provider might be able to deliver is maybe 30-40 Mbps.  Don't think that you will need 1,000 Mbps capability in a modem for that type of connection.
Kind of like having a car that can go 1,000 miles per hour, but the streets are narrow, crooked, and won't allow much over 25 miles per hour.

  • Good karaoke machines to use with ipod?

Is there a really good karaoke machine that can be used with an ipod? Do I have to download karaoke music to use with it, or can I sing along with tracks I would normally listen to? How do I get the lyrics to appear on a TV screen if I connect the machine to screen (I'm thinking there's a machine called imusic and one made by Vaughn ... anyone got any good advice?)

the relaxView 3.0 sold www.relaxview.co.uk is a very good and lightweight alternative.
