Best VNC viewer?

I like vinagre, but since it's Gnome, it wants the Gnome-keyring-daemon to save my passwords.
Are there any simple vnc-viewer clients that are not DE-specific?

Unfortunately remmina isn't compiling at the moment, after the latest libpng/libjpeg updates.
remmina-svn does compile, but most of the dialog boxes are missing when trying to set up a connection.
We'll have to be patient until this is fixed.
In the meantime, I've found that my old package (for Remmina's predecessor) grdc-0.6.0-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz works!

  • Best VNC client for iPad

What is the best VNC client for the iPad? So far I've heard about iTeleport by Jaadu, Desktop Connect, Mocha, iTap, VNC Viewer. Any advice much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    HL

After reading the various reviews on VNC clients, I went ahead and purchased "Screens". I am happy to say so far the connection via wi fi was extremely easy and fast. I was connected in less than 5 minutes after the download. The UI is very intuitive and speed is excellent.
The only complain I have of it so far is I wish they had a full screen mode option when viewing the desktop, and that would be a minor complain. I am having problems connecting via my iphone on a 3G network which according to the website I should be able to, but not such luck here.
It might be because I might be putting in the incorrect IP address. My Airport Extreme Base is daisy chained to another non apple wifi router, and the IP address I am getting on my MAC may not be a public IP address, and I am not sure how to work around that.

  • Adobe reader does not work, what is best for viewing pdfs?

While using Safari, I keep encountering a message that in order to view a .pdf, I need to download Adobe Reader, accept the end user agreement, then relaunch.  I have tried to do this many times and keep getting the above message. What program is best for viewing pdfs using Safari on an iMac

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Which app is the best for viewing documents without sliding while zooming?

I have many novels saved under *.htm, doc and pdf.
I'm using Quick Office, but when I zoom in, I have to slide the screen from side to side just to watch the whole things, which make my eyes feel very tired.
So I need your help about which app is the best for viewing documents without sliding while zooming, I mean, when you zoom in, you just have to slide vertically to see the whole documents, and don't have to slide horizontally.

All running on Wine 1.1.7, Oblivion is running around 150 mods, and QTP3, Body mods, High res texture packs for the character skins, with HDR lighting. As you can see the FPS does not change, it fluctuated between 19-20 on all three runs.
Especially with Dual cores, you will find that games do not loose FPS even with things like a lightweight music player running in the background. Windows scheduler simply was not made for that kind of thing, and benifits alot more from a lower number of background processes. I wont say linux does not benifit, but with Dual cores and CFS, it is not really noticable anymore.
Wait, does that mean you have better performance while you are running more stuff? Does the desktop manager handle graphics better?

  • Launch Console fails: the vnc viewer is not installed on the manager server and no local vnc viewer is found.

    Hello,
I have created and started a VM image and try to configure this image, but when launching the console I get the error:
"the vnc viewer is not installed on the manager server and no local vnc viewer is found."
I've read the vnc console does not rely on a local version of the vnc client, but uses the java vnc.  From the java log I get:
    Java Web Start 1.6.0_43
Using JRE version 1.6.0_43-b01 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
    User home directory = C:\Users\kgraaf

INFO: Os is : windows 7
It is not clear to me yet what is expected to be running where. My configuration is:
    - VM Server 3.1 on Linux host A
    - VM Manager 3.1 on Linux host B
    - Connected via Windows 7 64-bit client via a browser to the Management Server. Let's call this host C
When launching the console it tries to connect to 127.0.0.1:60505 so to localhost and a port#.
    - Given this information I would expect it tries to launch the vncviewer from my management server (host B).
    - /usr/bin/vncviewer is installed on host B, but this appears not to be used.
    - We see java vnc is started on my Windows 7 client (host C) and it tries to connect to 127.0.0.1 (localhost on my Windows client??) and not to the remote management server (host B)!?
    Questions:
1 - Can someone explain what exactly is being executed (from where and to which host) when launching the console?
2 - Is this a java version / Windows 7 related configuration issue? How to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Klaas.

Per Oracle's website - RAN into this a few hours ago...Do it as ROOT on the VM Manager Host

It is preferred that you install either TightVNC on the Oracle VM Manager host computer. You can get the latest TightVNC package from:
    http://oss.oracle.com/oraclevm/manager/RPMS/http://oss.oracle.com/oraclevm/manager/RPMS/
    Install TightVNC with the command:

Is anybody know best image viewer for Mac..?
I like Windows Explorer Image view .. you just open one file and left and right will scroll though .. can do it in full screen too.
I try a Photo+ and everything is ok, but again must select all pictures or folder to open many photos. I click to one photo in folder, Photo+ open only clicked photos

Try this one... it's called Privcy
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/privcy/id828281323?ls=1&mt=12
Can easily navigate using cursor keys. What I like is that as you move past the last image it automatically shows the next folder or zip. Ideal for quickly looking at pictures.
Also you can paint/airbrush pictures immediately...

  • VNC viewing problem

I'm running 10.5.5 on my 17" MacBook Pro and have VNC enabled (requiring a password). I work in a place full of linux work stations and these guys use VNC all the time. I'm the only Mac guy in the house .
Anyway, I can join in on any of their VNC sessions by bringing up RealVNC's VNCViewer and typing in a specific IP address followed by ":1" and after entering the password I can see their world. The Console says the following when I connect:
    11/17/08 3:33:07 PM [0x0-0x42042].com.realvnc.VNCViewer[598] Connected to 10.66.87.15 on port 5901
However, if I do a Connect To Server and enter vnc://10.66.87.15:1 then I immediately get a connection failure dialog box. Similarly, if I ask any of those guys to look at my screen, they type in my IP address (with or without "") into their VNC viewer and they get the password prompt. When they enter the password, my menu bar flashes briefly (nothing reported in the Console) and their application hangs - requiring a force quit. This is usually followed by gratuitous snickering etc...
    I'm stumped - any ideas?
    Mick.

I just want to make sure I understand. When you say requiring a password, did you use
System Preferences -> Sharing -> Computer Settings
[X] VNC viewers may control screen with password:
You will be using VNC port 5900. Or in their world,
Port 5900 is the standard VNC port. Many VNC servers/viewers use the shorthand , :1, :2, etc... to mean 5900, 5901, 5902, etc...
Your vnc://address.of.Linux.sys:5901 is because a URL is a full address and the : in that address is a generic way to specify a port via a URL, not a special VNC shorthand notation.
If you do not make any progress, you can always install the Vine Server, assign it to port 5901, and let your Linux co-workers use that to view your screen.
Also, you might want to check out JollysFastVNC client and the Chicken of the VNC clients, if for some reason the RealVNC and or the Linux Screen Sharing clients give you problems. Depending on the situation I use different VNC viewers. Some give better remote F8 key control during boot, some a better at low bandwidth performance, some do copy/paste better, etc... Your mileage may vary.

  • Faster Lion to Windows VNC viewer?

I am trying to use my 2011 iMac (running most recent Lion build) to connect and work on my Windows system at work. I have TightVNC server running on my windows system at the office. I can get Lion's built-in VNC to connect, but it is really slow. I am getting tired of watching the constant screen redraw.
Are there any settings I am missing to speed this thing up, or is there a faster VNC viewer out there I should be using?

You may eventually use RDC client for Mac. It works pretty good.

  • TightVNC (or other windows VNC viewer) connecting to OS LION

Have been using TightVNC viewer on a windows based PC to connect to my iMac without any problems.
Upon upgrading to Lion, I am no longer able to connect to VNC.
When I connect, I get a gray screen with my username, prompting me for a password. I am unable to type or click, etc.
I understand there is a new protocol for connecting to VNC. I have no problems mac-to-mac or even iphone-to-mac , however, I am looking for a solution for pc-to-mac.
Does anyone know how to configure tightVNC to make this work? Can anyone recommend another software that would work?
    Thanks for any input
    Mike

We are having the same issue with our Lion. With the help of this thread:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1194456
We came up with a workaround:
    * Use RealVNC client
      - this uses the ZRLE encoding (which is what Lion VNC uses); TightVNC does not use it.
    Configure RealVNC client with:
    * Misc Tab
Uncheck "Shared connection (do not disconnect other viewers)
Uncheck 'Only use protocol version 3.3
    * Default Tab (Load/Save Tab)
      Save as default (click Save)
    * Now run VNC viewer and enter the password to authenticate.
    Caveats:
Screen Sharing seems to work but not remote management
Due to the new multiuser login with Lion, you'll need to log out of OS  before disconnecting to VNC. If you don't log out, you can't reconnect in.

  • Need apps: BEST speed dialer favorite, BEST video viewer, BEST list maker..

Need apps: BEST speed dialer favorite (I have to turn on/off and reset hourly to get email so I can't keep favorites in my phone area), BEST video viewer (short form or longer form) AND BEST list maker that allows sync with online component (so I can keep a list on iPhone and/or online when not on iPhone).
    Thanks!

Ah yeah I know that. I am asking users on this board what they consider the "BEST" in a specific category. The app store is not very user friendly (too many clicks), plus the categories are vague and contain a mish-mosh of stuffs. I have downloaded several apps (free and paid) for other needs—but really would like suggestions on those I have yet to download.
BTW your response was rather lame and not very helpful.

  • Vnc viewer

I'm looking for a VNC viewer to connect to PCs to for screen sharing for tutorial purposes.  Can't use Skype due to network restrictions.  Any suggestions?

VNC is built into the mac operating system. To connect to a computer hosting VNC connection:
    go to the dock
    click on finder
    go to the menu bar
    click on the go menu
    chose "connect to server..."
in the address bar type vnc://computerAddress.
    click the connect button.
for the computerAddress you can use DNS name *assuming it has one), and or IP address.
you can also do vnc://user@computerAddress and vnc://user:password@computerAddress.
if you want, you can type this in the addressbar of safari, and then drag the url to the desktop to create file you can double click on to connect to the computer quickly.
you can also add the address you type in the address bar of the connect to server dialog box to the favorits list in the dialog box.
