Best way out of Forms 11gR2 installation mishap

I misinterpreted the Cert Matrix when I read that you can install Forms 11gR2 on Oracle Linux 5 (UL3+), thinking OEL6U3 would be OK. Originally, I missed the footnote at the bottom. Now I cannot get passed the pre-requisite screen for Oracle Fusion Forms and Reports 11gR2.
What is the best way to resolve this installation problem? Reinstall with OEL5 UL+, or is there something that can be done to save this?
Any help is deeply appreciated. Below is my environment and log file. Thank you in advance.

Best way to repair a corrupt installation

Hello,
I am trying to fix a problem for a non-technical friend, and I'm fairly new to the Mac myself, so I thought that it would be safest to ask for advice before I begin. It looks like I'm going to have to reinstall the OS, and since my friend can't find the disks for most of her 3rd party software, and she is unsure about her Mac disks, I'd like to try to preserve as much of her old installation as possible. She does have a Time Machine backup on an external drive.
Here is the problem. My friend has a Macbook Pro running Leopard with all updates installed. Safari has suddenly stopped working for her. It appears to launch (the menu bar appears), but no window opens. If she tries to close Safari, an error message appears saying something like "Do you really want to close Safari? 0 tabs are open." Her Safari preferences seem fine, except when I look at plug-ins. For every string in the plug-ins panel there is a message saying "Localized string not found". Her plug-ins folder is empty (I deleted it anyhow, but it didn't help). I uninstalled Safari, deleted her preferences folder, and downloaded and installed a fresh copy, but this didn't help. I did not look at "/library/Internet Plug-Ins", but I'll do so before doing anything more drastic. The folks at the Apple store scratched their heads over this one, but couldn't figure it out. Their recommendation is to reinstall the OS.
So, since she doesn't have everything she needs for a complete reinstall, what is the best way to recover the system with minimum disruption? She has bought a Snow Leopard upgrade, and I'm tempted to just give that a try to see if it fixes the problem. However, I've always believed that upgrading a system with known problems is just asking for more problems.
I thought of trying an archive and install, assuming my friend can find her original disk (or that the Snow Leopard upgrade DVD will let me do this).
This should preserve her preferences, but does it preserve installed applications? I believe that I could use Magration Assistant and get applications back from Time Machine. I have made a Time Machine backup of the system, and I'll probably do a disk image as well before I start.
The safest thing would be an erase and install, but I'm not sure that the Snow Leopard upgrade DVD will permit this. I do have my old Tiger disk from my own Macbook Pro if she can't find her installation disks; I could do a clean Tiger install and then upgrade to Snow Leopard I suppose. I assume that if I did this, I could then pull everything she'll need from Time Machine. Is this correct?
I'd appreciate any suggestions.

If you have a bootable backup (this would be a clone and safer than TM -- use free Carbon Copy Cloner or "Restore" from Disk Utility), you don't have too much to risk, since you can always reverse clone back to the Mac. Just install Snow Leopard over the current Leopard by selecting the upgrade option. Everything should still be there and I would think it would install all the correct files for its version of Safari.
Then use Software Update to see what needs updating, but run those updates separately, _or much better,_ download the standalones from Apple Downloads. You should update the OS either to the current 10.6.6 (if you don't mind having the App Store welded to your system) or to 10.6.5 using the Combo updates. The 10.6.6 has only one minor security patch and there's no emergency to install it right now.

WDA will be called by workflow every time an approver has to approve the request.

What is the best way to upload an Adobe form into WDA?
I found Web Dynpro example WDR_TEST_ADOBE_PDF_ONLY.
This example demonstrates how to get a form data assuming the form object is created in the view.
Is there a way to also upload a template into WDA?
Or I have to have the form template in SAP repository and

Best way out of a crashing project?

i'd be so grateful for chimes on this subject!
i've been advised to initialize logic preferences when a particular project seems to be going pear-shaped, with regular crashes
i've also been advised to transfer files, audio and midi, over to a new template and i'd be real happy to learn the best and simplest way of doing this. i tried selecting everything in the arrange, then copying and pasting all into the new template's arrange. subsequently there was some intensive work with pen and paper noting all settings from the old project and duplicating them in the new one. was this the imbecile way of doing it, is there a simpler way?
and have you good peeps found either of the above routines useful around rectifying crashing probs?

all drivers (crucially apogee ensemble) are up to date, i'm intentionally keeping the system very very sparse right now after my disaster with i dunno how many plugs which ended by mashing up my life

Best way to refresh (transport) Apex installation/configuration

We have a development, test and a production environment.
In the DVLP and TEST our developers has access (apex account) to the Apex dvlp environment for developing the Apex code and testing it.
In our production, they have no account.
Every x days, we do a refresh: this means we restore our full prod database to our TEST or DVLP environment.
The result: our Apex configuration (accounts, ...) in our TEST has been overwritten.
The apexexport -istance exports only the apex program code but not our configuration
Does anybody have a good solution for this?

Why do you copy the PROD database over your TST and DEV every x days?
You probably only need the data of the 'real' tables don't you? So in that case, export only that schema (or schemas) and import these in TST en DEV and the APEX Repository won't be messed up. (You also might lose some work you've done in DEV and not promoted to PROD yet...).

What is the best way to create an electronic form

I was asked by a client to create a form where a new patient can fill out a form electronically and send to a desired email. Also, the possibility of incorporating this into their website.
After searching it seems creating a form in InDesign then bringing it into Acrobat Pro is the way to go. This seems to have a real "tech" feel from what I have seen. I am much more on the art side of things.
Is this the best route to go? I want the design to function well but also look professioanl and pleasing. I have the CS4 Suite incase this alters someones answer.

You have the right idea, and here are some pointers...
The layout of the form can be accomplished in Indesign. Areas that you want text fields, include a rule in the form, this will be helpful in Acrobat. Check boxes can be drawn out in ID, but the form is cleaner when the the check box is created in Acrobat.
Once the form layout is completed, export PDF, open in Acrobat and Start the Form Wizard. The Form Wizard does a decent job of recognizing where intended form fields will go, and create, label, and order them. Keep in mind that the process is not perfect, and editing will probaly be necessary.
You will need to save a working PDF, and when you are finalized, you will need to save a version that has extended features enabled. Extended Features will allow recipient to save PDF with their data input.
Recipients will need Reader 9 or higher to save input within PDF.
Another question you may want to ask: Does your client plan to export data from form, and input into another system? This can be accomplished, however there are a lot of factors involved with how it would be handled.

What is the best way to migrate from Forms to ADF?

We are in a big quagmire. Our company has been into Oracle Forms development for over 15 years. We have applications developed in Forms 6i and 10g. We have about 5 products and these 5 products have about 25 to 30 different versions. i.e. we maintain about 30 different versions of our applications. Each version of the application has about 100 forms and 100 reports.
Now, since Forms has come to the End of life from 11g we want to move to ADF. We tried Forms to ADF migration tools but failed. So now we have decided to manually rewrite the applications in ADF.
Our Forms / PL/SQL developers, designers and analysts (total about 40) are all Oracle Forms people. They have no experience in Java.
What I want to know is:
(1.) What is the BEST way to achieve this?
(2.) Do we have to learn Java, JSF and ADF?? (i.e. All 3)?
(3.) Is it mandatory to learn JSF??
(4.) Assuming, comprehensive training can be given, how long will it take for Forms people to learn ADF?
(5.) What type of training will be required?? (Java, JSF, ADF, JDeveloper etc.)
(6.) How LONG will this take? i.e. to train all 40 and then get rewrite an application of 100+ forms and 100+ reports? (Ballpark is OK).
(7.) Any other technologies we should learn??

Obvoiusly the longer you have for training the better but I think the minimum would be
1) Java skills - I think to start off, 1 or two days reading something like Head First Java http://www.amazon.com/Head-First-Java-Kathy-Sierra/dp/0596009208
2) I'd then get "The Quick Start Guide to Fusion Development" http://www.amazon.com/Quick-Start-Oracle-Fusion-Development/dp/0071744282/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1343201618&sr=1-1&keywords=jdeveloper+quick (declaration: I'm the author so have a vested interest, but I still think its a good place to start. - this should be about 2-3 days to read and also to try things out.
3) In parallel I'd be watching these ADF Insider Basics http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/adfinsider-093342.html#a1 - a couple of hours
4) I'd then try this tutorial http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/jdev/obe11jdev/ps1/ria_application/developriaapplication_long.htm - 3 hours.

I think this would be the absolute MINIMUM to at least be able to build some basic applications and to start feeling your way - everything else outlined in the "ADF COLLATERAL TOUR" http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/jdeveloper/11gdemos/ADFTour/ADFTour.html could be learned as you start building some proof of concept. However, I'd wouldn't suggest you try building a real application with only one weeks exposure (in the same way I wouldn't expect you to design a product database with only one week training). I would probably expect your developers to have at least the above training and then spend about a month or so (minimum) building proof of concepts (or testing themselves with the ADF Insider Essentials Tasks). Furthermore, I'd probably expect you to have at least on senior developer/architect, with much more experience who can be making decisions on things like reuse, partitioning, architecture etc.
Of course, this is all subjective but I hope it helps.

Best way to set up user to hide pages in a fillable form once complete.

I have created an 11 page fillable PDF form from a word document that will be used for Mentors. The last page (11) is a summary page with fields automatically populated from various preceeding pages. Once the form has been filled out, I'd like the user to select a checkbox (or something) so that they can allow the reviewer (in my case the Employer) to only see the Summary page as pages 1-10 will contain confidential information for the users use only. What is the best way to do this? Once filled out, the Mentors will upload('update') the document with a sharepoint (joomla) Document management system where Employers have a separate login group and user access levels.
Any help woudl be greatly appreciated. I understand that forms created from word have limited functionality so I can't 'hide' certain pages on a checkbox entry - but if there is a way around this (ie setting Chapters?) I would appreciate the help!

If the data must remain truly confidential, meaning that the end user should not have any way of getting at it when they are provided the file, then you really should be extracting the summary page once it's populated or creating it separately. Even if you made the pages templates so that you can hide them (with Acrobat) and then applied security restrictions, the confidential information would still remain in the file and could be seen relatively easily by a knowledgeable and/or determined person.

What is the best way to prompt a Form user to enter a value

I apologize in advance if this topic has already been raised on the forum - I've done a search but couldn't find anything.
Basically I would be interested in finding out if there is a 'best way' to prompt and accept an entered value from a user. I am just experimenting at the moment with asking a user to enter a date value which will then be used in code. I am running Form 9.0.4.

I am rather puzzled by the question. Forms primary use is to accept user input, and then respond to that input. It is no wonder a search does not turn anything up.
So there are a number of ways to accept input. The first that comes to mind is a simple input field on the canvas with some prompt text next to it.
I don't think there really is a "best practice". It really depends on what your form is doing.
If you explained what you mean by "which will then be used in code", or described what your form needs to do, then you would get some good suggestions.

Best way to take a form and.....

Looking for suggestion on the best way to take a form after submission to the DB and allow the users to save it as a PDF?
So enduser fills out the form online and then clicks the submit...it sends the info to a db then outputs the form in a pdf form so they can save it or print it...
any suggestion?

Whats the best way to manipulate data using a Form ??

I have a few forms and basic navigation and data manipulation I find are rubbish - cos I am rubbish at making it any better.
I have a customer form (layout style of form) and table, I set up 2 buttons (enter_query & execute_query) to retrieve specific details based on customer ID input by the user. If the specified ID is for the wrong customer I want a button or buttons that will navigate through the IDs one by one until the right customer is found. If it was a tabular form I could do it but can I manage this if the form is not ?
Once the data is retrieved what is the best way to manipulate and save it ? Can I create a button that has PL/SQL code to UPDATE that particular record or do you guys and girls use the SAVE icon ?
Finally, I can't work out how to get the right side of the form displayed it seems to miss off an inch or 2. The canvas editor shows the form properly, the window size is just a smidge bigger than the canvas. When the form is run, how can I make the display area for the R/H/S bigger ?

Sorry - I had to read up on what a base table block was.
I think I am. In this particular form I have one block - a customer block which has its items pulled in from the customer table, no problems there, it works fine.
My problem is I need to make it as user friendly as possible, if the user inputs the wrong customer ID (or does not know their name) I want them to be able to scroll through the customer list using an up or down button.
When do you have the commit_form statement run, (the OK button) after every change or after a block of changes ? Commit writes the changes to the database giving other users access to that data right ?! How often should it be used ?

Creating the form itself is really only half the job.
You can have a marvelous form created using html and DW's built in form items. Those items can be in a table, or not, that part is up to you. The next step is making the form "do something".
The simplest way to make a form work, is a mailto: link in the form action attribute, but it's the absolute worst way to go. Mailto: links require the viewer to have an email client installed and set up on the computer they're using to submit your form. If they don't (as in the case of Gmail, htomail, yahoo, etc mail users) when they click Submit, absolutely nothing will happen.
Another drawback of using a mailto: link for your form submission is that email address is now open to every spam email harvester on the internet. If you like certain "blue pill emails" then there wouldn't be an issue, but if you are like the majority of society, you won't be sending funds to any Nigerian doctors either and won't want to be spammed constantly.
Personally, I use the Formmail script, available for free at http://www.tectite.com for pretty much all of my html forms. As long as your server has PHP installed (most do) the Formmail script will work very well for you. They have a ton of "How To" info on their site and the script itself is very robust with loads of features you can use, or not, at your discretion. They also have a very well documented troubleshooting section and a searchable forum that take care of the most common issues you run into.
Your next step is "find out what server scripting language you have available on your server". From there, you'll need to find/write a compatible script, then attach your form to it.
