Best way to achieve 2-monitor hookup on '08 mini?

I have tried a dvi splitter but so far little success. I only want to use one monitor at a time. Thanks

Matrox.com makes a device for connecting multiple monitors to a Mac.

    Once the user has entered the URL they want to add to the form. You can use the loadXML function to implement some special text in a label...
    var linkValue = "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\"?><exData contentType=\"text/html\" xmlns=\"http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-template/2.8/\"><body xmlns=\"http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml\" xmlns:xfa=\"http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-data/1.0/\" xfa:APIVersion=\"Acroform:2.7.0.0\" xfa:spec=\"2.1\"><p style=\"font-weight:bold;text-decoration:none;letter-spacing:0in\">The new link the user have entered is:<a href=\"" + textfield.rawValue + "\">textfield.rawValue</a></p></body></exData>";
      this.resolveNode("lblURL").value.exData.loadXML(linkValue, 1, 1);

  • Best way to achieve multiple paths with quizzes using Captivate 6?

    I’m looking for the best way to achieve multiple paths and quizzes using Captivate 6.
    Here is the scenario: The learner watches general slides 1 – 3 and then chooses between Path A, Path B, or both paths combined.  If they choose Path A then they watch the A portion only and take the A Quiz only. Same happens for Path B and for the two paths combined. The learner would only have to go one path to complete the course.
    What I’m finding is Captivate only has one Quiz results page (even if you create two separate quizzes, it merges them). I was trying to avoid having three separate projects for the same module to keep it simple. I see if I have three separate projects I could use the Multi-SCO Packager to merge them for use on my Moodle LMS. But wait, I don't have the elearning suite, so I don't have access to the Multi-SCO Packager...
    My question is: What is the best approach way to accomplish this goal? Any recommendations?

    Captivate 6 has Branch Aware quizzing.  Turn on that option in Quiz Settings and then your Quiz Results page should only show results for the branch your user visits.

  • Best way to achieve PHD-like ability in home environment?

    We have 4 Macs at home.   Each mac (except mine) has 4 identical logons -- one for each member of the family.   The physical Mac themselves become just generic devices -- i.e. grab whichever one is available.    The problem arises when Kid 1 writes a term paper on Mac 1, later picks up Mac 2 and tries to edit it.   She then needs to find Mac 1 and log into her account....
    I read about OSX Server and thought about buying a Mini, turn on PHD, and have home directories sync'd in the background/logon/logout so that it truly doesn't matter which Mac a family member picks up.    Thought also about having a shared PHD for things likely to be accessed by multiple family members at the same time -- pictures, music, etc...
    Q:  Is OSX Server the best way to achieve this?
    Q:  OSX Server on a dedicated Mini or just on my Macbook (which has tons of storage, the shared family stuff is there now anyway)?
    Q:  I've seen mention that two people can't simulataneously connect to the same PHD.  Is that true?   Would that make PHD unsuitable for a group shared file area?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Marty

    OS X Server can do this.  You'll need to set up local DNS, local shares and the rest, and then bind the client Mac systems to the Open Directory server.
    A Network Attached Storage device — or accessing a share that's been configured on whatever Mac was used, technically there's no need for server to export shares from Mac systems — is another and potentially much simpler option here.  Put the shared files there, and any Mac can access them.
    With Open Directory, folks would have their own logins, and I'd generally not look to have multiple logins in parallel with portable home directories in use.  Portable home directories are useful when the Mac systems are portable and leaving the local network on occasion.  If the Mac systems are not leaving the local network, then a network home directory is probably better.

  • What is the best way to run dual monitors with a 2011 MBP?

    I have a 2011 MBP and i want to run dual 1920x1080 monitors. what is the best way to accomplish this? i also have a PC attached to the monitors with the DVI connection (but would be willing to change this to the analog, if necessary). so i have teh analog and HDMI connections available on the backs of the monitors.
    what i would like to do is hook the MBP through the HDMI if possible and then i would just be able to change inputs on the monitors depending in which computer i want to use (PC or MBP).
    any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

    Ok, you either own a MacBook Pro with an Intel Processor, or a PowerBook with a PowerPC Processor.
    If your stated speed is correct, then you own a PowerBook, which will not run Windows natively. development & sales for Virtual PC has ceased. The only emulator still around, I think, is iEmulator & is terribly slow on G4s.
    Boot Camp does not work on PowerPC Macs.

  • What is the best way to achieve backup and storage by combining TC and external HD?

    Hi,
    By reading various posts I came to the conclusion that my recently bought 2TB TC (still in the box) needs to be combined with an external HD (not bought yet) if I want both network (WIFI) storage and safe backup.
    Could someone please confirm what the best way of organising the two devices is and advice on the various steps I will need to take?
    See below for some extra information:
    I want to back up a Mac Book Pro with 250 GB HD and potentially a HP laptop (250 GB as well).
    Can this also allow me to backup a iPad?
    The storage will need to be accessible to both machines. It will mostly be pictures.
    Back up should be as automated as possible, i.e. Time Machine is the obvious choice but I am open to other tools.
    With regards to the external hard drive, are models like Western Digital Element or Seagatte Expansion suitable to stay plugged in the TC 24/7? Will they not overheat?
    My initial idea is to use the WIFI facility of the TC box. I can use the WIFI facility of the modem/router is more appropriate.
    Thank you in advance for your replies.
    Denis

    The drives you are backing up are small. There is no real need to use external drive but you do need a backup if you store files on the TC.. for just backups that is not necessary.
    You cannot partition the TC but you can create a disk image for using with data files.. ie the PC backup.
    Read Q3 here http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
    Can this also allow me to backup a iPad?
    iPad is backed up to itunes.. or to cloud.. it is not able to see the TC drive at all without an app. You can manually copy files to the TC using filebrowser app but there is no auto backup software in the iPad to other than itunes.
    It will mostly be pictures.
    Back up should be as automated as possible, i.e. Time Machine is the obvious choice but I am open to other tools.
    So you are not backing up, you are storing files.
    You cannot access files in a Time Machine backup except by restoring them to the Mac. The PC cannot see them at all. That means you are not backing up.. you are storing files, even if just copies of the files. To do that you just copy via finder or windows explorer.
    There are various scripting methods to ensure these photos are synced on all the devices. .but that is not what a backup software does.
    If you want to use USB drive that is fine, they can stay attached 24/7. The disk will spin down generally when not in use.
    They will not overheat.
    But it is much faster to copy files to the USB drive plugged into the computer than on the TC.. the USB link on the TC is slow.. less than half the speed of the same drive on the computer.. much slower than the TC internal drive. It might be better to plug a USB drive directly into a computer.

  • Best way to achieve fade out-in pages

    I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on the best way to
    build this --
    I want to have some kind of lovely transition between the
    pages of my website (why not; it's Flash) -- I've thought about the
    following three options:
    - old page's text flying off the right side while the new
    text flies in the right
    - old page's text fades out and a background animation (like
    a turning page or something) plays before new text fades in
    - old page's text simply fades out as new page's text fades
    in
    In all of them I ran into a problem -- how to tell two or
    more sequential things to happen on a button press. For instance,
    if there was some kind of nifty flying-away of the old page's
    content, how do I tell it to do that and THEN fly-in the new page's
    content? It would be a pain to simply animate every possibility,
    like page a to page b, page a to c, a to d, b to a, b to c, etc...
    there has to be some way to script it prettily.
    I've come across the following ideas:
    quote:
    on (release) {
    myClip.gotoAndPlay("fadeout"+pagename);
    outerClip.gotoAndPlay(1);
    Where you define a 'pagename' variable for each one and have
    frames labeled accordingly
    or:
    quote:
    button02.onrelease = function() {
    movieclip01.fade(0,10);
    movieclip02.fade(100,10);
    movieclip03.fade(0,10);
    //etc, etc, etc....
    where you clumsily fade out everything else possible when you
    load each one.
    or I was even thinking about making the old page content
    'retreating' animation for each page and trying to code it to play
    that and then play the requested new page, in one long timeline.
    Does anyone have a more elegant way of thinking about this?
    I've looked all over for examples, but most tutorials seem to stop
    short of the scripting I'd love to use. Code examples would be
    highly, highly appreciated. I'm a total AS3 newbie, but willing to
    learn if that's the best way.
    Thanks in advance to all the brilliant people out there who
    might add their 2¢!

    Thanks again NedWebs! For this thought experiment, I'm just
    talking about a simple fadeout current clip - fadein new clip. But
    I run into the same general question lots of times, for instance
    for a current project I wanted to unload the clip, play a 'page
    flip' looking transition movie, and then load in the new clip...
    So are you advocating the button action as being fade out all
    other movie clips (as a catch all that works no matter which is
    loaded), then load requested movie clip?
    How do you tell the actionscript to finish fading out 'a'
    BEFORE starting to fade in 'b'? Or in the pageflip example, how do
    you tell it to complete the whole fadeout, THEN play the pageflip
    movie, THEN load the requested clip? If I put the actions within
    the same handler or whatever, won't the instructions complete all
    at once?
    Sorry for my tangly questions; I'm learning!

  • Best way to achieve SSo

    We are in the middle of a new ECC 6/CRM 7 implementation and would like to know the best way to accomplish SSO in our environment so that both the regular SAP GUI and the NWBC client can benefit from single sign on.
    We currently have two separate AD forrests. One in which our PC's are called SE_DOMAIN.COM. This domain has the underscore character n on it so we created a new AD domain and forest called SEI.LOCAL and we are in the process of migrating everything from SE_DOMAIN into SEI.
    Our current SAP servers are already in the SEI domain while the users are still in SE_DOMAIN. I have read a few guides for SSO, but still unsure which is the best way to accomplish this as some mentions a CA and others apparently are in favor of the latest Federation services from Active Directory and SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language).
    is SAML the new and recommended way to go?
    Regards,
    Paul Aviles

    Hi,
    There is no need to use certificates for this, and no need to use SAML. In fact if you want SAP GUI authentication, there is only one possible way - you have to use a cryptographic library and use the SNC interface provided in SAP GUI and in SAP ABAP AS. When using SNC with Active Directory it is best to use an SNC/Kerberos library since Kerberos is the protocol used by AD for authentication of users when they logon to the domain.
    You would need to install the software on each workstation running SAP GUI and also on each server running ABAP AS. Then you would ensure that there is a one way trust between your two AD forests, and then you will get SSO for users logging into the old domain (the one containing the _) and also users will benefit who are logged onto the new domain. This will help during your migration.
    I suggest you look at http://sap.cybersafe.com and I recommend you look at the products on this site.
    Thanks,
    Tim

  • What is the best way to achieve this

    site is
    here
    much like a "drop shadow" on the content into the background
    i have an image that repats on the y axis.....it is a film strip...
    this is my issue....
    i have the bacground image defined in the #wrapper div as
    follows
    div#wrapper {
    margin:0 auto;
    background:black url(../images/bgMainContent.gif) repeat-y;
    width:772px;
    height:auto;
    text-align:left;
    this way what ever content i fill the web page with the "film
    strips" will repeat all the way down.....
    this is my problem....
    i have two div's for my main content now #bodyPic and
    #bodyContent, they are set to float left and right
    respectivly.....(the are next to each other in other words)
    if i define a background color it wil over ride the "film"
    effect...so what i need to do is set a margin-left:25px; to
    #bodyPic and a margin-right:25px; to the #bodyContent......
    the obvious problem here is the box model problem......is
    there a way i can avoide using margin on the #bodyPic and
    #bodyContent divs? and still have the 25px free on either side ??
    the only way i can think of is to set a background to
    tranparent and add the padding to the elements inside of the divs
    for example if i have p in the #bodyContent i will set the
    margin-right:25px; for the #bodyContent p
    is there another way to achieve this???

    this is an update......my code now looks like this...
    div#bodyWrapper {
    width:722px;
    margin:0 auto;
    text-align:center;
    div#bodyPic {
    margin:0 auto;
    width:257px;
    height:400px;
    background:green url(../images/aboutBodyPic.gif) bottom
    right no-repeat;
    text-align:left;
    float:left;
    div#bodyContent {
    margin:0 auto;
    width:465px;
    height:400px;
    background:blue;
    text-align:left;
    float:right;
    <div id="bodyWrapper">
    <div id="bodyPic">
    </div><!--bodyPic-->
    <div id="bodyContent">
    </div><!--bodyContent-->
    <br style="clear:both;"></br>
    </div><!--bodyWrapper-->
    this doesnt work in IE 5, 5.5.......the two body dovs are not
    being centered in the wrapper.....
    any suggestions?

  • Best way to achieve this Eg in Muse

    I am super inspired by sites that begin to mix rich video with interactive elements embedded in a single parallax scrollable site. Case and poin is this example...
    http://moto.oakley.com/
    I just actually learned about Muse and saw some rich examples but am wondeirn if you can push it far enough to create an example liek the one attached.
    Key aspect
    a) Scroll a PNG sequence into view
    b) Have the sequence begin to animate at a certain point
    c) Trigger text and graphcial overlays
    d) have it continue down the page upon completion of PNG sequence
    Any tutorials out there that would get close to walking me through creating something remotely close?
    Thanks in advance - JG

    Hi all. I'm studying design but I have some trouble with this simple thing. I don't know how to achieve this effect in the best and natural way possible...I tried with the pen tool but it sucks...
    You do see the irony in your statements, right?
    How better for a student to learn than to persevere? That image, once you get a bit more practice with the pen tool, should only take you 5 minutes. If you were coming up with a new to you design, longer. But you have a sample and are only copying it.
    Get to using that pen tool and learn.

  • Best way of running 3 monitors on Mac Pro 2.66Ghz, 10.8.4,

    Hi Guys,
    I just wanted some advice if you can help. I have a Mac Pro, 2.66GHZ, OSX 10.8.4, (Early 2009) and it has a NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB. It has a Mini Display port and also a DVI output. I wanted to run a third monitor. I have a home recording studio, where I currently have one Main screen (Let's call it screen A) and in the vocal booth I have screen B (let's say). I ideally now want two main monitors in the main room which will become A&B, but keeping the other monitor (let's say it's now C) in the vocal booth. It doesn't matter if C can only mirror A or B - That's fine.. The monitor in the vocal booth is only for when I'm recording myself and need to control logic. In fact if it does mirror the main monitor A, that would be a bonus, rather than just an extended desktop.
    Just wondered how you Wizzo's would do this. Would it be a case of adding a second graphics card to the machine, or just getting some sort of doubler box for Monitor A..
    Any advice appreciated!
    Thanks Guys

    be sure you get a graphics card that already has Apple Firmware (such as the genuine Apple card) or it will not show a picture:
    a) Under Mac OS X at all.
    Some third-party display cards are better supported under 10.8.3 and later, and will show a picture once the login screen appears, but generally NOT before. If you are willing to put up with this annoyance, you have a sligthly wider selection of graphics cards, especially for the Mac Pro 2008 and later.
    b) as your Mac starts up, until you get to the login screen or auto-login. This makes alternate booting, debugging, and Disk Repair a problem.
    This is not readily fixed in third-party cards, as it is dependent on the graphics card's ROM, which cannot just be flashed in the usual way.
    Mac OS X is prepared to do Extended Desktop and/or Mirroring in any combination of the displays you desire. It is less work for your Mac to Mirror displays if they are on the same card, but that is not a requirement.
    If the displays to be mirrored have vastly different resolutiuons, a "comman denominator" resolution will be used, which may compromise picture quality.

  • Best way to run 3 monitors (including big screen HDTV) from MP 4.1 with 4870 card

    TIA for your help.  I know there are already threads about mulitple monitors, but my specifics are slightly unique...
    I currently run a 42" TV from the DVI port using an HDMI adaptor cable.  Works great.
    I'd like to add a 20" monitor (Dell Ultrasharp, lots of connectivity options) and a 17" (older, less connectivity options).
    I'll never need all three on at the same time.  One of the new monitors would display the same signal the TV gets; the other monitor would be a second screen.
    What's the smartest way to do this?  From my reading I figure it will involve a powered splitter of some kind.  Does my 4870  have enough power to drive the two smaller montiors plus the 42" TV?
    (I also have a 2011 MBP I could throw into the mix, but I'd rather just run everything off of the MP if possible.)
    A semi-detailed explanation of what products I need and how to use them would be most appreciated.  Looking for the simplest, cheapest solution.
    Thanks!

    I'll never need all three on at the same time.
    The simplest, cheapest solution with the 4870 card (which has one Dual-Link DVI and one Mini DisplayPort) is to swap cables. Done!
    If you did want all three at once, you could upgrade to the 5770 or 5870 card. These work in all Mac Pro models, drivers are in 10.6.5 and later. These two have one Dual-Link DVI-I port that can drive a wider-than-1920 DVI display directly. The other two ports are Mini DisplayPort, same as the 4870.
    To drive one Single-Link DVI display with Mini DisplayPort, an inexpensive adapter will do. All these cards can produce a DVI signal from a MIni DisplayPort with the correct timing. But the signal levels are a bit on the low side, and when you drive two converters, the signal level is too low and the third display drops out.
    The solution to this problem is to use ACTIVE converters, which boost the signal levels up and keep three display operating. For Single-Link DVI (good for up to 1920 wide or 1080p) you can get an ACTIVE adapter for about US$35. For Dual-Link DVI, the adapter usually requires a USB cord for additional power and the prices are close to US$100.

  • What is the best way to connect two monitors to MacBook Air?

    I have a MacBook Air and I want to connect two monitors to it (not Thunderbolt Displays). I was thinking about using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter to connect one monitor and a USB to DVI adapter to connect the other (such as Diamond BVU). But I have heard that this causes it to become slightly slow to respond on Mission Control and causes videos to lag. Is there anyway to connect two monitors without the lag? Or should I just use one monitor?

    The MacBook Air only allows daisy chaining monitors via Thunderbolt with Apple's Thunderbolt displays so you'll need to go 3rd party with something like -
