Best way to activate WM in a storage location

Hi all.
We want to activate warehouse management in a certain warehouse (0001) where stock is currently available.
What is the best way to make the begin using WM in this warehouse?
We thought to:
1. transfer all the stock (unrestricted/ quality/ blocked...) from 0001 into another warehouse
2. transport all customizing related to WM for that warehouse (0001)
3. create master data in the new warehouse number/ storage type
4. transfer the stock into the warehouse 0001 again to include the storage bins
Is this flow correct or maybe is there any one better?
Apart from this, I had a question about how to manage storage type and storage sections?
We have clearly different areas in this warehouse:
reception area
production area with repetitive manufacturing
storage for consumibles
storage for pallets (where have been previously produced in production area)
storage for aftermarket
The mandatory requirement is to make goods receipt in a common area for all materials in this warehouse and, although there is no bin determination because operator will decide the bin to keep the material, he should know at least the type of material or the area where materials should be kept. For example, in reception area the operator is going to pick a consumible, he should know in which part of the warehouse it should be kept.
My idea is to create one storage type with different storage sections (one per *) but maybe it is better organized if different storage types are created. What is the best criteria to do it?

Best way to access files at two different locations

Hey Guys,
I am in need of some help. We currently have about six macs in our prepress department all accsessing 1 mac mini with three external drives that store all our files. We also work out of those drives, not on our local machines.
So far this has worked out well for us. However, in the next few weeks we will be opening a new shop about 20 miles away, that will need access to all these same exact files. We are not sure of what the best way to do this is.
Currently the mac mini we are on does not have osx server just osx. Also we have about 4-5 TB of customer files, and any given file that we are working on or would need access to could be up to 2 GB's.
We are open to all and any ideas. Obviously the cheaper the better, but please give me any and all ideas so that we can evaluate every option and decide what is best for our company.
We know that our current state of using external drives on a mac mini in not a realistic solution for ever as eventually our drives will fill up and I think we are out of usb ports to add new ones on.
Also this cannot be a one time type of fix as once we get this new location set up and established, we plan to replicate it and open up a couple more in the comming years. Also seeing as we already have 4-5 TB of data we need something that is future proof so that as we continue to expand and grow we end up needing a new solution in 5 years.

whether it copies mac metadata may depend on what version of X you have. May depend transfer app you use AFS, NFS, Samba.

Well, if you want with Dropbox, you could use Dropbox to do the syncing. I think this is the way to go because you would get offsite backup. Not sure i'd try to sync the two servers. Duplicate each server to Dropbox. Provide read-only access to the other site.
You could experiment around with two computers and a dropbox account. See how it works for you. It's free upto two gigs.
versioning
dropbox has versioning build in. using sometype of version system while necessary was viewed as a PITA by most programmers. The best system would be an automated on where you didn't have to do anything beyond what you were doing before. Timemachine, etc.

Activate WM in existing storage location with stock

I have activated WM in existing storage location. Unfortunately, three materials where not transferred from this storage location before the activation of WM. So now i have them in IM but in WM i do not have them in any bins.
How can i resolve this?

We discovered that InfoObject is not active in production and the system is locked for changes.
Just wondering if we need to ask basis to open the system and activate it directly or transport the infoObject from Development sytem to production.

Hi,
As told every one it is advisable to do a Transport from Dev to Production. Do not activate in Production directly. You have to throughly do testing in dev and Quality before moving.
Check the info object status in Quality, is it in Active or not.
Or one thing you can do is try to reimport the same request which you transported early.
If not follow the Transports.

The best method for creating a bootable backup is to use an external HD and either SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner . It's really that simple. The drive does not need to be 2TB, that is the capacity of your internal HD. Get a general idea of how much is on the internal HD and then allow for growth. For example if you have 500GB stored on the HD now that say's you are at 25% of capacity. If you allow for growth and figure a 1-1.5TB drive will give you several years then that is the size drive you should get.
BTW DO NOT, repeat DO NOT use your TIme Capsule or any other drive for creating the bootable clone.

Best way to implement active directory in multiple locations

Hi,
Currently we don't have an active directory domain and looking in to configuring a test setup for it.
We have 6 countries and in some countries we have 2 to 3 sites. There is a constant VPN connection between all the locations.
Our users are travelling between the sites. IT is managed from a central location and have one IT responsible on each site which also have to create / modify users.
Should we go for one domain with a domain controller in each site? Or should we go for a parent DC at central location with child DC (sub domains) at the other sites?
What are the pro's and cons of each scenario?

I think you have some misunderstanding about OU and site in AD.
OU is the purpose container that can be used to group most other object classes together for administrative purposes. An organizational unit in Active Directory is analogous to a directory in the file system; it is a container that can hold other objects.
And it represent the logical structure of your organization as domain.
Sites in Active Directory represent the physical structure, or topology, of your network. Active Directory uses topology information, stored as site and site link objects in the directory, to build the most efficient replication topology. A site is a set
of well-connected subnets. Sites differ from domains.

So if a user or a computer connected to the domain, he will be located in the OU which is configured. And this will not change except the configuration changes.

Accidentally ordered phones on wrong accounts, best way to switch numbers?

I stayed up late to order two AT&T iPhone 5s on the launch day and in my 3am stupor, using two computers, I accidentally swapped the accounts I ordered the phones under.
I bought a 32GB for myself and a 16GB for my wife, except I ordered my 32GB under the family plan she shares with her family and her 16GB under my individual plan.
What is the best way to activate these phones to make sure that our phones don't get any of the weird mixed up texts/iMessages and other things I've heard about happening? The guy at AT&T said to just swap the SIM cards once the phones were activated, but I'm wondering if there's a "best practice" for this sort of thing. I've been told by a friend to swap the SIMs BEFORE activation, but I don't know exactly why...
Any suggestions?

It sounds like you need to register your own phone number with its own password to create a MyVerizon account for that phone number. The Backup Assistant associated with the account owner is for that line only.

Best way to move VM files (but not vhds)?

I am using Hyper-V Core 2012 R2 standalone in a WORKGROUP.
I have placed my VMs in a folder called C:\SSD\VMs but want to move them to C:\RAID-5\VMs. The VHDs are in a different location and won't be changing. What's the best way to do this?

Go to SPRO > MM > Inventory Management and Physical Inventory > Authorization Management > Authorization Check for Storage Locations > Here activate the authorization for storage location under plant
And use authorization object as "M_MSEG_LGO"

Create Plant or just separate Storage Location

I am trying to determine where the magical line is to decide whether to establish a separate address location as a different plant or location. My example is not very complex. It is a satellite production location that produces products for use as raw materials for another production facility that assembles and sells the final product. The satellite location will have a separate cost center and will use activity rates and costing sheets for overhead recovery. My inclination is to set the satellite facility as a plant but supply Chain team sees this as overkill and would rather make it simply a storage locations.
Can someone provide a white paper or list of positives and negatives to storage location versus plant? I know some things might involve the following:
1-If valuation of products are different or may at some point involve different values by location, a plant is needed.
2-If products are sold directly from location, plant would make more sense.
3-If inventroy is transferred between locations with differing addresses, various tax and bank reporting could necessitate the use of separate plants.
4-When manufacturing activities exist, a plant is logical.
5-If all purchasing is performed at a central location, a separate plant may not be required for this purpose.
My existing dilemma relates to the fact that we use costing sheets by plant. Without a separate plant, using different storage locations forces me to use the Material Origin Group to dileneate the extra location if I don't want to use the plant based overhead rates. This seems like a violation of best practice and proper use of SAP.

If you define satellite production location as Storage location you can not do profitable analysis at this unit. My suggestion is activate MRP area at storage location level. So that satellite production unit is treated as separate entity under the same Plant. This will just help you to do the Supply chain activities (purchasing, Sale, Prod and STO) at MRP area level. But Profitability analysis still can be done at Plant level only.
This will solve your point numbers 2, 3, and 4.For material valuation (Point number -1) I think you have to go for split valuation.

I have activated the "Activate Stock Transfer Between Storage Locations", now i can create a STO and have the "Issuing SLoc" tab.
Having that i get an error message "Not possible to determine shipping data for material XXX" Message no. 06280.
I am trying to have the shipping data in customizing for set stock transfer - "Define Shipping Data for Plants", but my site is not listed due to the use of IS Retail. Is there a way to configure it?

Hello Lior,
in Retail your distribution center is a vendor and a customer, and your store is a customer. Therefore when you create master data for your distribution centre and store, you also create the vendor and customer masters that are required.
By this link of the DC / Store to the customer master the shipping data is derived. I hope this answers your question.

Storage location & backflush must be automatically set in Production order

While creating production order the storage location and backflush for the Components (ROH Articles) inside the Production order are manually selected.
Is there any way, where i can set them (storage location and backflush) as a default whenever i create a Producton order ??? This means whenever i enter the components in a production order the system must automatically show the Storage Location and backflush as ticked.

Hi,
To set the backflush always then in the material master MRP2 view set backflush " Always".
To set the automatic storage location then you can define the "Stock determination group".
This is will be help full if ur keeping material in more then one storage location.
If you are keeping in the single storage location then in the MRP2 view maintain the storage location in the "production storage location " filed.

Stock transfer between Plant/Storage location to Plant/Storage location

Dear Experts,
This is a MM component of SAP Retail.
We have 4 brands ( Plants of type B, Plants of type C etc) that needs inventory from the same Distribution center (Plant A) for some common products. Here the direction is to prioritize the inventory per brand. The requirement is one brand should not take the inventory of the other brand.
To overcome this problem , the solution proposed is to have different storage location for different brands in the same DC.
When we run replenishment planning for the brands and do a ATP check, the availability check should consider only the one issuing storage location in the DC which we allocated for the brand.
I do see the following set up in SPRO and I have done the following.
Step1: Activate Stock Transfer between Storage Locations SPRO->Material Management->Purchasing->Purchase Order->set up stock transport order->set up stock transport order between storage locations-> u2018Activate Stock transfer between storage locationsu2019
Step2: Assign Delivery Type and checking rule according to storage
SPRO->Material Management->Purchasing->Purchase Order->set up stock transport order->set up stock transport order between storage locations->Assign Delivery Type and Checking Rule According to Storage
Step3: Define Shipping Data for Stock Transfer between Storage Locations

You will need to activate " Authorization Check for Storage Locations "
Storage location authorization means that a user has to have authorization for authorization object M_MSEG_LGO in order to enter a goods movement in the storage location, using a particular movement type. In the list of material documents, only the document items for which the user has a display authorization are displayed
