Best way to arrange music in iTunes for Shuffle & Nano

I have a Shuffle and just ordered a Nano. With the Shuffle iTunes simply puts all songs on the iPod. I want to create playlists for my Nano and put all songs in a playlist. How can I arrange the songs where they don't all load when I connect the Shuffle? I guess my question is, for those of you with both what's the best way to arrange music on iTunes?

You'll probably want to create separate playlists for your Shuffle and for your Nano and then set iTunes to sync only selected playlists to the Nano. Or set it to manual management and just drag to the Nano whatever content you want.
Regards.

  • HELP: best way to share music?

    Here's the deal:
I have a MacBook Pro and my wife just got a MacBook Air.
All of our music (about 15,600 songs / 81 GB) is currently on my MacBook Pro.
I would like to use iTunes Match to get all of this music in the Cloud and off my MacBook Pro.
My wife and I would each like to be able to access this music on our respective computers.
We would like to be able to download separate podcasts to our respective computers.
We don't currently have iPhones, but will be getting the new ones when they come out this fall.
At that time, we'd like to access music in the same way as described above.
At that time, we'd also like to have separate apps (i.e. not all the same apps on each others phones).
    So my questions are:
    Is iTunes Match the solution?
If so, do we share an Apple ID for music... but have separate Apple IDs for everything else (apps, reminder, etc.)? Is that possible?
In short, what's the best way to share music across multiple devices, while still keeping the devices autonomous in other ways? Thanks for your help!

First, read this thread: FAQ:  Why iTunes Match can NOT be used as a backup!
If you each want your own, personal content on your future iPhones this can be done with one iTunes Store account ID, however keep in mind that you will both be using one account. If you wish to use iTunes Match this is also possible but you may not have multiple iTunes Store accounts. You both must share the same account. You would both be able to subscribe to your own Podcasts.
For sharing the music locally I recommend Home Sharing, not iTunes Match. And have a backup scheme for the personal data on both notebooks. If you do not have a backup scheme in place now, I suggest you purchase a 2 TB Time Capsule to backup both computers.

  • What is the best way of putting music onto another iphone?

What is the best way of putting music onto another iphone for a different itunes account user and different phone carrier? multiple user accounts on my mac? or home sharing to put the music on? then they have their own itunes account for apps etc?

    Hi DVX100Shooter,
Congratulations on getting your son a new iPad, I am sure he will enjoy it.
Family Sharing is one way of managing both purchases and content between members of a related group of people. Each member must have their own Apple ID. You can choose what music you wish to share with the family from your own account. See this article -
OS X Yosemite: Share purchases with your family
In particular the section titled Hide a purchase from other family members
The music library on your son's iPad is separate from yours, but under Family Sharing you agree to pay for all purchases made through the iTunes store. If you wish to control what is purchased you can set up the Ask to Buy option for any family member under adult age in your location. See this article for details -
Request and make purchases with Ask to Buy - Apple Support
Gift cards may not be used for billing of purchases under family sharing, with the exception that a family member may use gift cards to purchase their own content. See this article for information about Family Sharing billing policies -
Family purchases and payments - Apple Support
The shared family photo album is available to all family members.
    Family Sharing - Apple Support
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • Best way to share music across computer?

I host my music on my Mac, but I also have a PC that has better speakers, so I'd like to be able to play tunes from the PC. So I copied my music library to my Network attached server so it cold be seen by every computer in the house. I then opened iTunes on my PC and the music shows up under the shared section on the left. Problem is, none of my playlists went over...so I figured I could export them, but then I realized I have to do that one at a time. What a pain. So for grins I thought I would use the Top rated one built in on my PC iTunes and start from there, but it apparently only looks for tunes in the Music section and doesn't find songs in the shared section...
So this brings me to my question...before I spend any more time trying to figure this out on my own, I thought I'd reach out to the experts and ask, what's the best way to share music from a NAS over my home network (note that my NAS apparently has the Firefly iTunes Streaming server installed but I can't figure out how to use it...)
    Ideas?

have you looked into _*Home Sharing*_ ?

  • Best way to backup Iphoto and Itunes?

I just purchased a 2TB Timecapsule and after reading addtional reviews I am reconsidering my purchase. What is the best way to backup iphotos and itunes? The idea of backing up the data wirelessly and seamlessly with time machine was a what encouraged me to purchase Apples solution. However I am seeing alot of TC's are dying after their warranty expires which is a deal breaker as I have a newborn and do not want to lose pictures.
My 2009 MBP memory is nearly full and my photos eat memory. I would like a solution that allows me to access previous photos etc without relying on the MBP HD in the event it is stolen, crashes etc.
The same holds true for itunes which I rarely use now that I have Spotify, however I do not want to lose my itunes catelog in two years either, but it would be great to have them off my MBP HD, but readily accessible if necessary.
The literature on purchasing cloud storage is pretty scarce (Icloud!?, Amazon?)
Any insight is greatly appreciated, and I am sure I will have followup questions as I need to resolve this soon now that I have a 2 week window to return the TC.
    Thank you!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Presumably, the old iMac is pre-Firewire? If it is, it really would be very slow for backing up. You can use these methods to network the two machines on my FAQ:

  • Whats the best way to share music?

whats the best way to share music on 2 computers with 2 different accounts?

Turn it up so the person at the other computer can hear it
Seriously though, put your iTunes library in a shared folder.  One computer has to be the "master" of the library.  The second computer will just connect to it.
Set the second computer to connect to that Library on the shared folder.  Make sure that "Keep iTunes media folder organized" is turned OFF on the second computer.

  • Is there a way to fade music in iMovie for iPad2?

Is there a way to fade music in iMovie for iPad2? I am making a short presentation using photos - not video. The music soundtrack ends abruptly. Is there a way to have it fade out?

It shouldn't crash but it could be that your library has some user-agent detection that's going awry when running in an unknown browser.
You can always use the HTML5 WebAudio API to go beyond simple audio file playback.

  • Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?

    Using Windows 7, iphone 4.
I've read as many threads on these forums and as many kb's as I could find, but I sttill can't figure it out. I have 2 iPhones. Let's call them, "wife" and "hubby". I want to have two separate iTunes, one for each of the phones. Hubby is the Windoows User. I don't want to set up a different Windows User for wife.
Hubby was the original iPhone. When I plug it in, iTunes recognized it has Hubby's iPhone. Then I unplug Hubby and close iTunes. I plug in Wife but iTunes stll comes up with Hubby under Devices and syncs Hubby's iTunes to Wife's iphone.
I've tried using the shift key when I open iTunes to set up two separate .itl files to no avail.
Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?
    Thanks!

What happens if you rename the iPhone "Wife" when it shows up as "Hubby", then choose a different set of apps/playlists to sync with? iTunes is supposed to be able to manage multiple devices, each with their own selection of content. Perhaps you "restored" "Wife" with a backup from "Hubby" when you first set things up which is now causing confusion.
To create a new library press and hold down the shift key as you click the icon to start iTunes and keep holding shift until asked to choose or create a library. You need to use the same technique to switch back.

  • I would like to know the best way to scan music into a pdf format which I can then sync with ipad

I would like to know the best way to scan music into a pdf format which I can  then sycn with ipad

    smgchandler,
Any camcorder that can connect via USB or that can save to an SD card can interface with an iPad if you have the iPad Camera Connection Kit so that you can watch your videos on the new iPad's beautiful retina display.  You can find this on the Apple website or in most big box retail stores.

  • Best way to start a new catalog for 2009 ?

    Hi,
What's the best way to start a new catalog for the new year, with all the keywords and all the presets of the modules (without having to export all the folders) of previous catalog 2008 ?
    Thanks,
    Dominique

Well there is a cost too in not being able to find all your images in a single step, and inconsistencies soon develop - eg a keyword is plural in one catalogue, singular in another. Speed or stability issues are not simply related to catalogue size, and I've seen decently-performing catalogues 50% bigger than yours (as well as slow ones of a few hundred images). Have you optimized the catalogue recently?
But if you think it's a good idea to fragment control of your picture collection.... Presets will be carried over to a new catalogue as they belong to the machine (unless you have the save with catalogue preference turned on). Keywords can be moved via the Metadata > Export and Import Keywords command. If you have lots of collections and smart collections, then maybe make a copy of your existing catalogue and then remove all the items from it - making sure you don't trash them of course.

  • Hi all! What is the best way to create the correct space for baseball jersey names and numbers? along with making sure they are the right size for large printing.

What is the best way to create the correct space for baseball jersey names and numbers? along with making sure they are the right size for large printing.

Buying more hard drive space is a very valid option, here.  Editing takes up lots of room, you should never discount the idea of adding more when you need it.
Another possibility is exporting to MXF OP1a using the AVC-I codec.  It's not lossless, but it is Master quality.  Plus the file size is a LOT smaller, so it may suit your needs.

  • What is the best way to replace the Inline Views for better performance ?

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle 9i ,
What is the best way to replace the Inline Views for better performance. I see there are lot of performance lacking with Inline views in my queries.
    Please suggest.
    Raj

WITH plus /*+ MATERIALIZE */ hint can do good to you.
    see below the test case.
SQL> create table hx_my_tbl as select level id, 'karthick' name from dual connect by level <= 5
    2 /
    Table created.
SQL> insert into hx_my_tbl select level id, 'vimal' name from dual connect by level <= 5
    2 /
    5 rows created.
    SQL> create index hx_my_tbl_idx on hx_my_tbl(id)
    2 /
    Index created.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> exec dbms_stats.gather_table_stats(user,'hx_my_tbl',cascade=>true)
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
Now this a normal inline view
    SQL> select a.id, b.id, a.name, b.name
    2 from (select id, name from hx_my_tbl where id = 1) a,
    3 (select id, name from hx_my_tbl where id = 1) b
    4 where a.id = b.id
    5 and a.name <> b.name
    6 /
    Execution Plan
    0 SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=ALL_ROWS (Cost=7 Card=2 Bytes=48)
    1 0 HASH JOIN (Cost=7 Card=2 Bytes=48)
    2 1 TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'HX_MY_TBL' (TABLE) (Cost=3 Card=2 Bytes=24)
    3 2 INDEX (RANGE SCAN) OF 'HX_MY_TBL_IDX' (INDEX) (Cost=1 Card=2)
    4 1 TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'HX_MY_TBL' (TABLE) (Cost=3 Card=2 Bytes=24)
    5 4 INDEX (RANGE SCAN) OF 'HX_MY_TBL_IDX' (INDEX) (Cost=1 Card=2)
Now i use the with with the materialize hint
    SQL> with my_view as (select /*+ MATERIALIZE */ id, name from hx_my_tbl where id = 1)
    2 select a.id, b.id, a.name, b.name
    3 from my_view a,
    4 my_view b
    5 where a.id = b.id
    6 and a.name <> b.name
    7 /
    Execution Plan
    0 SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=ALL_ROWS (Cost=8 Card=1 Bytes=46)
    1 0 TEMP TABLE TRANSFORMATION
    2 1 LOAD AS SELECT
    3 2 TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'HX_MY_TBL' (TABLE) (Cost=3 Card=2 Bytes=24)
    4 3 INDEX (RANGE SCAN) OF 'HX_MY_TBL_IDX' (INDEX) (Cost=1 Card=2)
    5 1 HASH JOIN (Cost=5 Card=1 Bytes=46)
    6 5 VIEW (Cost=2 Card=2 Bytes=46)
    7 6 TABLE ACCESS (FULL) OF 'SYS_TEMP_0FD9D6967_3C610F9' (TABLE (TEMP)) (Cost=2 Card=2 Bytes=24)
    8 5 VIEW (Cost=2 Card=2 Bytes=46)
    9 8 TABLE ACCESS (FULL) OF 'SYS_TEMP_0FD9D6967_3C610F9' (TABLE (TEMP)) (Cost=2 Card=2 Bytes=24)
here you can see the table is accessed only once then only the result set generated by the WITH is accessed.
    Thanks,
    Karthick.

  • Best way to clean microfiber cloth used for the display?

What is the best way to clean microfiber clothes used for the display?
    Thanks

Hand washing works well, but can be tedious.
If you decide to machine wash, make sure of a few things:
    - Use warm water
    - Do not wash with towels or undergarments. The microfiber cloth will pick up every bit of lint from them.
    - Wash it with similar color items.
    - Use regular soap, but don't use bleach or fabric softener. The bleach can damage the cloth (and the Apple cloth is black anyway, do you really want a spotted cloth?) and the fabric softener will reduce the effectiveness of the cloth.
    - Hang it up to dry or dry it on the lowest setting of your dryer. I am not certain about the Apple cleaning clothes, but other microfiber clothes have been known to actually melt in the dryer if it gets too hot.
    To hand wash:
    - Put the cloth in a bowl with a tight fitting lid, add a little soap. Either dish soap or laundry soap will work, you don't need much.
    - Close the lid tight & then shake the bowl hard for a few minutes. Find a 3 year old, they'll love to help do this.
    - Remove the cloth & rinse it well, making sure the water runs clear.
    - Air dry flat or throw it in the dryer at a low setting.
