Best Way to Backup Mail, Archive or Drag and Drop?

I'm going to perform a clean install on a 4 year old G5 at work and I'm backing up the mail but I was curious if the Drag and Drop method I've used in the past is the most efficient? In the past, I've just copied the entire mail folder to a backup location and then when the reformat was finished, replaced the new mail folders with the old one.
I've actually never noticed the "Archive Mailbox" or the "Import Mailboxes" options before and was curious if going the Archive then Import route is a better/safer option or if my old method works just fine (I've not seemingly had any problems in the past).

In my experience copying the entire Mail folder is the most trouble free method. Mail archives sometimes fail to restore. Archiving also doesn't save all the support files in the Mail folder.

Wow, that sounds pretty easy, just drag and drop, but what exactly did you mean when you said "When restoring your data, ensure that all the iTunes and iPhoto files are restored before launching those applications"
What i was going to do is just copy (restore) all the data onto a external HD or a DVD-R and then make sure iTunes and iPhoto still has the same number of files and then i would check the DVD-R or the external HD to make sure that the files have been copied, right?
One more question, most of my music on iTunes was bought from the iTunes Music Store, will it still copy?

You say that you already have an external hard drive? Of what capacity? With some libraries, it's simply a matter of dragging and dropping them to copy them to an external drive (such as videos, etc.). But you want to be a bit careful about moving your iTunes Library so you won't lose the links to your music (see -> http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449 and http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751) and photos (see -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229?viewlocale=en_US).
Once you've established that your relocated Libraries are still functioning and that you've copied your movies, you can delete these items from your internal drive. You could, if you wanted, invest in a larger internal drive so that you could always have your data stored so that you can take it with you, of course.
But if you safely move all of your files to an external, you can trash the originals and make space on your internal drive.

Archive or Drag and Drop GargageBand Files?

I'm wondering what is best to archive my work then burn for backup or just drag the individual files over to the burn folder?

The safest course of action is to use Save As Archive from GB's File Menu, and then burn that file to CD or DVD (if these are one of a kind files, I'd suggest burning at least 2 discs)

Can't drag and drop from Address Book to Mail?

Hi,
I have always used Address Book to store my email contact information in SL. When I wanted to send an email, I would drag and drop from Address Book to the "To:" field in Mail and it would add the contact information to Mail. I upgraded to Lion, and now when I try this, the address icon moves like it should, the little green circle with the + in it appears when I hover over the field, but when I release it does not add the address to Mail. The drag and drop does not work at all, but it looks like it should. I have searched all around but have not found any information about this. Does anyone know what's up with this? How can I fix it? Thanks in advance.

Are you dragging from the actual AddressBook application, or the Address icon you can add to the NewMail and Reply toolbars in Mail? (It ought to be there by default, but isn't).

Some users who encountered the same issue are able to resolve it by pressing ESC key for several times, you may have a try and let me know the result.
If above doesn't make any change, we may try to right-click the email you want to move and drag it to the target folder, then select Move from the pop-up menu to see if it will work.

Sounds as if you didn't really try Randy's suggestion based upon your response. Try it, I think you'll like it, and as a matter of fact, once you figure out the best way to deal with the playlist, I suspect you'll like it just as much if not more than the old way. By the way, you ARE syncing when you drag and drop, it just gets initiated right when you drop the song and in the playlist case, you can wait to sync at the end so your itunes doesn't get sluggish.
As far as the password is concerned, you HAD to have set that up originally, otherwise you wouldn't get email. When you restore, they wipe out the passwords for security purposes. Just go back into the settings for mail and put your password back in there.

Flex 2: Drag and Drop

Hi,
I need help or maybe I can get some advice. I have a TileList
that gets populated by buttons. I am using HTTPService as my
WebService. I have a component called Buttons.mxml, to use as
itemRenderer for my TileListEx.mxml. Everything is good as far as
displaying all my buttons onto my TileList. My problem is when
doing Drag-and-Drop. Right now when I drag a button and drop it in
to a different spot/location (inside my TileList), it moves the
other buttons too at the same time. I cannot drop a single button
onto an exact position without affecting the other buttons. Is
there a way to when you do a drag and drop, it will drop the item
onto exact position as to where you wanted to drop it in. I
attached my sample code, maybe someone can help me and give me some
advice onto how to fix my problem or maybe can tell me a better
solution of doing this.

When working with drag and drop, troubleshoot starting with
the most obvious: Where exactly is the Canvas you're dropping onto
and how large is it. Give the Canvas a temporary red background
(myCanvas.setStyle("backgroundColor", "#FF0000")) to see exactly
where it is on the stage. If you can't see it after you've changed
the background color, chances are you can't drop anything onto it
either.
Glancing over your code I see a couple things:
1. In DesignCanvas, you don't define the dropTarget variable,
which is supposed to be a reference to the DesignCanvas.

2. Your override of updateDisplayList() doesn't include
super.updateDisplayList(unscaledWidth, unscaledHeight);
I'd comment out your complete updateDisplayList() override
and troubleshoot the drop target first, then you can start adding
the other functionality and see if it works as you'd like.
P.S. Just as a best practice, start your classes with
uppercase and variables and functions lowercase, so DesignCanvas,
not designCanvas.

Multiselect drag and drop in ADF

Currently I have a UI where I have several cards. Each card is built using panelStretchLayout and I can drag and drop each card.

Drag and drop to create a custom step

I have a custom insertion palette in my custom user-interface. I want to allow the user to drag the step from the custom insertion palette into the sequence designer, like the original insertion palette. The custom insertion palette is in WPF.
The data format for the drag and drop object is

Please note that the clipboard format is not something we intend for users to create directly, and it might change in a future version of TestStand. So, if you do this, keep in mind it's possible it might not work in a future version of TestStand (i.e. we do not support creating clipboard items directly).
That said, it might be possible to get it to work in current versions of TestStand as follows (I haven't tried to do exactly what you are doing, but here is how our format is currently generated):

Drag and drop between multiple instances of an executable

I want to know if there is a special way (not using Windows API) to drag and drop data between multiple instances of a same executable.
I have an application built in LabVIEW, where the main window can open a child window. Each window has a plot control. Between the two windows, a plot data of main window can be copied by drag and drop.
And I open another instance of the same executable. Now there are two executables(A and B).
I want to drag and drop a plot data from the main window of B to the child window of A. But in this case, Drag Enter Event is not fired. I think that the event seems to be fired only inside an executable.

Placed images (as opposed to pasted images) in Indesign are by their very nature pointers to an external image file, so there is no way to slim down the size of your exported PDF other than by playing with the export settings. Other than that, ensure that your file is placed in Indesign at 100% and at the correct resolution for your desired output. If you open the PDF in Acrobat, you can also save as a reduced size PDF which may help.

Drag and drop not working 2012 and Win 7

This used to work, but somewhere along the way I lost the ability to drag and drop file paths and LV snippets onto a LV block diagram. Has anyone else seen this? I don't think it's a windows issue. And it works in LV2011.

Portlet drag and drop

Hi, Is there a way to enable JSR 168 portlet drag and drop(drag from one place to another place) feature. I know we can use oracle composer(page customizable, layout and panal customizable) for that. My requirement is
1. Create a page template(myTemplate.jspx) that has 2 column layout - to restrict 'page developer' (who uses the page template) to use only two columns all the time. Add facet ref to the columns.
2. Cretae a page that uses myTemplate.
3. I want to consume portlets at design time. End user will not be able to add portlets.
4. End user will only be able to drag one portlet from one place to another.
In this case where i need to user oracle composer components(page template or the page that uses it)? If I use composer in page then I cannot restrict to 2 column layout.

What version of webcenter are you using? PS2 or PS3?
Because you are a talking about JSR168 i expect this to be PS2?

This means that your developers will drop portlets from JDeveloper on the page; They will NOT use the resource catalog for this, is this correct?

This is OOTB functionality when you use layoutCustomizable. Placing portlets in another region is called personalization. Adding portlets to pages is called customization.
When you want your users to be able to drag and drop portlets from one place to another, they should only be authenticated. Authenticated users can do this by default. You don't need to do anything special for this.
It looks like your requirements is a description of the default behavior or am i missing something?
