Best way to bring IMac
Hey guys I bought a IMac G5 20" and now that I'm moving to the UK for school, what's the best way to bring it over....I was thinking aout putting it in the box and packing it my suit case but the box is to big! Now I was think about checking it in but then I'm worried about picking up and how everyone can just come by and pick it up.....is there another way? FEDEX/UPS the best way (do I have to pay duty?)? is there a case that I can use to bring it on the plane with me...help?
SC,
I'm going to pipe in again on this subject, and what I say is probably going to elicit some contrary comments.
I can't count the number of times I've seen flight attendants (we haven't referred to them as stewardesses for about 30 years) throw or allow passengers to throw bags into a closet. Even if a particular F/A gives a coach passenger permission to use the closet for a computer, the other F/A's aren't going to know about the computer being in that location, and something could very well be thrown on top of your computer. Unless you can protect the screen against what would probably amount to a direct punch, it just isn't worth the risk.
Add to that the effort of lugging the heavy computer around, having it count as one of your 2 carry on items, extra charges incurred for excess items in the cargo bin, etc, etc, etc. Checking the computer as cargo bins its own risks, although IMHO less danger and trouble than carrying it on.
You PROBABLY could get away with taking the computer on the airplane with you, but the airline is NOT going to be liable for full damages if there is a problem.
My suggestion remains to pack the computer in the original box and Fed EX or UPS it. That's how it was probably shipped to you in the first place, and I'll guess it arrived in great shape.
My 2 cents worth.

What is the best way to bring a hierarchy in R3 to BW
Hi,
There is a hierarchy constructed on R3 based on sales area called AMG hierarchy. Users now want the same hierarchy in BW reports based on Cube1.
What is the best approach to handle this?
What is the best way to bring a hierarchy in R3 to BW?
ThanksHi,
I tried mk1 and it prompts for:
u201CHierarchy name & Data Elementu201D
When I tried mk2, it only prompts for u201CHierarchy nameu201D.
1.
Both tcodes do not allow me to browse for the list of hierarchies so it appears I need to know the tech name somehow. Should I have been able to browse?
2.
Is there another way to see the list of hierarchies on R3
(Is there a similar tcode on BW to see or create the hierarchies on BW?)
3.
Just to understand, what difference does it make whether the hierarchy was created with mk1 or mk2?
4.
So, let me get this clear, on R3, when I execute BW10, I am prompted to enter:
"Data Element for the Logical General Hierarch"
it is at this point that when I browse, trying to see the list of hierarchies, I get the above message.
"No General Hierarchy Available in R/3"
Let's assume that I know the "Data Element for the Logical General Hierarch" to be xxxxHierxxxx.
When I enter xxxxHierxxxx, what should I expect?
Are you suggesting that it will automatically create the same hierarchy on BW?
Thanks -
Hi, what's the best way to replace IMAC 27'' glass when broken (latest Imac generation from end 2012) ? Thanks,
Not sure about the 2012 models but the 2010 ones can be removed in seconds, using a suction cup on the top corner. I use my tomtom to lift it away. It is attached by magnets.
Hope this helps. -
Best way to connect iMac to TV
What's the best way to connect my iMac (2011) to my TV? My TV has HDMI inputs and my iMac has Thunderbolt ports, so I know I can connect them with a cable, but they are about 20 feet apart and I think that's too long for a cable run. Does anyone have suggestions?
TIA,
ThadGet an Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and a 20 feet long HDMI cable.
There is no problem with the length, but a 25 feet HDMI cable will be around 20$ on eBay.
If you need to really go long distance, then you could get a HDMI over CAT6 extender.
This one will allow 130 feet.
Some models will let you extend up to 1000 feet! -
How to migrate What is the best way to connectold iMac to new iMac
What is the best way to connect a 2006 iMac to a 2013 iMac? ( Lion to Mountain Lion )
I have a TM on the older Mac. I understand using set-up is best. I cannot afford to lose
Any data.

OGTBy Firewire. However, you will need a Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor from Apple to use on your new iMac.

Best way to manage iMac and two iPads?
Have a new iMac (Intel,OS X Lion) and two iPad 2. The iMac is mine the and iPads are my kids. We all have our own apple IDs. I ultimately want to do any downloading/purchasing on the iMac and then transfer the music/apps/movies to the iPads.
What is the best way to manage them so I can sync the iMac to the iPads?
Can I download apps/music etc. on my iMac and then sync it to both of the iPads?
Do I need to use the same Apple ID on all of them if I want to sync the iMac to the iPads? I would prefer not to store credit card info on the kids iPads.
Whats the most efficient way to handle this? Sorry for so many questions. Its a hazard of being a newbie.
Thanks, CourtneyThe best way I can think of is for each iMac user create their own account for them. Then when they log in they can sync to their own AppleID account. It keeps things simple and separate. If you don't know how to create accounts please look over http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mtusr001.html

Best way to keep imac and mac book in sync?
I have an imac g5 and a macbook. I have made the initial transfer of all files from the desktop to the laptop. What is the best way to keep the two in sync, such as iTunes, iPhoto, etc? I'm sure this is a stupid question, but I need help!! Thanks in advance
Check out the application called "SuperDuper!" at www, shirtpocket;
SD will 'clone' your Mac to your Macbook if you start the Macbook in Target mode.
You'll have 2 identical Macs with identical everything.
Now there's a start for you -
Best way to clean imac screen...
Hi...
wondering the best way to clean the imac screen - first time i have had a lcd screen
thanksNick,
The user guide recommends that one dampen a lint free cloth with water and use it to clean the screen. There are a few commercial products that work well, including Monster iClean and iKlear. Be sure to avoid any product with alcohol or ammonia. Also, whether you use water or a cleaning product, spray the cloth, not the screen directly.

I downloaded a job application with Adobe. What is your suggestion on editing this? What is the best way or best program? Thanks!
Simply, export the data from this esy share system to standard formats like jpeg, making sure to preserve all metadata on the way. How to do that? YOu'll need to post on a Kodak forum I'm afraid.
Then copy the files to the Mac and import them.

Best way to bring clips over from iMovie?
Greetings,
I’m stuck with iMovie as my only way to capture from my camcorder; it or my Firewire jacks or something’s gotten flaky and only iMovie will see the camera. SO...any thoughts on the least painful way to bring the clips into FCP6? Got FCEHD, too, which I’ve been using so far, but I want to use FCP...
Thanks for any ideas!
dcLast night I finally upgraded my G5 to 10.4.6 and since then, I have not been able to get Final Cut Studio 1, Final Cut Express OR Final Cut Pro 3 to "see" my camcorder which it did quite well before I upgraded my system software. FCP will control the camera but when I click on capture, it says no device is selected. When I go to AV Setup it shows my firewire as missing.
The problem isn't the firewire cable or my Canon camcorder. There is obviously a conflict between 10.4.6 (and higher) and Final Cut. But that problem only seems to hold true when you have FCP installed and THEN upgrade your system software. At work I have a new computer already loaded with 10.4.10. I loaded Final Cut Studio 2 on it and have no problems. Thank goodness the problem is here at home and not at work!
I have tried trashing Final Cut (preferences, application, and receipts) and reinstalling. No good. I'm going to try trashing QuickTime and reinstalling and see if that works. If not, then I don't know what to do.
We shouldn't have to import through iMovie. There is obviously a bug between OS 10 and FCP that Apple needs to find and correct. Please!!!! Or at least help us find a work around. -
Best way to bring edited files into multitrack ?
Hi,
Say you select a file from the browser and you make some edits to it in the edit audio window, you'd like to bring it into the multitrack right away. Is there an immediate way to do that other than saving it, re-selecting it in the browser window and drop it to the multitrack ?The Canon 5D MK II records in H.264, which is not a codec you should edit in. Use Compressor to convert the video to ProRes.

Best way to bring in a Premiere Elements 3 project?
Hi everyone:
I have used PE3 for a number of years, but have just recently purchased PE9.My system does meet the minimum requirements; I checked again just before writing this.
I am having difficulties with bringing in a PE3 project, into PE9.
When I rendered my project, it literally took 48 HOURS!!! And after all that, the quality was terrible - really jerky, pixelated, etc.
So I obviously have something wrong somewhere.
I would appreciate any help you guys can provide me with.
Thankyou.
Kind Regards
RachNeale has addressed the "low disk space" issue from above, so I will address Handles. When one adds Transitions, a certain number of Frames will be used, before and/or after the set In & Out Points. Those are Handles. Since most NLE's (Non Linear Editors) do not actually work with the original Clips, but only a proxy for display purposes, the program will access the original files, when time comes to Export/Share. It will then gather those necessary Frames from the original Clip, so that there is material (the Handles), to allow the Transitions to work. When one has Exported/Shared to a new AV file, the originals are not accessed, and only the Frames in that AV file are available. This ARTICLE goes into more detail on Handles - what they are, where they come from and how they are used with Transitions.
Were I outputting an AV file, to be edited later, I would set all In & Out Points very loosely, so that when I do go to edit, I have the necessary Handles. Say you have a Clip, of a young lady picking up a telephone, and making a call. You want the In Point to be the moment that her hand touches the telephone handset (let's call that Frame 61), and you have 02 sec. of material before that Frame (~ 60 Frames). Rather than setting the In Point to that Frame 61, I'd reset it to approximately Frame 29 - 30, to allow for Transitions later. When all Clips have been adjusted in that way, then I would Export/Share, knowing that I will reset to the desired In & Out Points, when I "tighten up" my edit of the resulting AV file, and still have the extra Frames (Handles), to do my Transitions. That is what I meant by a loose edit.
The opposite of that method would be to do a tight edit, where I know that I have the perfect In & Out Points, and adequate Handles, then add the desired Transition, before doing the Export/Share. I would know that I will not have the ability to really change any of this later, as it will be burned into my output AV file, but if I have done my editing as I desire, I will be fine. If this is a commercial job, I will get the client to sign-off on that tight edit, as if I later need to change things, I will then have to go back to the original footage, and replace what I have, with that - can be a lot of work in a big Project.
Good luck, and hope that helps,

Best way to let iMac rest?
I usually access my iMac G5 many times during the day, and when I am done, I put it into Sleep mode. But then, I sometimes have a need to come back to the computer a few minutes later, and rouse it from Sleep. I may do this quite often each day.
So my question is, is it harmful to be taking it out of Sleep mode a lot each day? I've thought that I should just leave it, and then perhaps put it to sleep at the end of the day just before bed.Hi James - it's quite a common practice to let display sleep but never to let machine go into sleep mode. Many Mac users swear by this and do it on a 24/7 basis and is harmless to a healthy computer. What you're doing presently may do more harm than good, in my opinion...
Just go to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Sleep > set your display to sleep whenever you want and set computer to sleep on 'Never'... Rick

I have a new imac that is about 2 months old. While I really like it, I am looking to get a portable computer. I put it on criags list but it seems like everyone wants a mac book. I do not blame them, but any suggestions on how to sell this for a fair price. I am tired of people asking for 700 dollars when this is a 1200 computer only 2 months old.
Leave it on Craigs List and make it clear low ballers will be ignored. Promote it with photographs and a good description of anything extra that comes with it such as software and/or AppleCare.
At the same time create an Ebay auction and price it based on what similar machines are selling it for. -

You may need the "gopro" agent if you've a "GoPro" camera, and you may need the "sierrawireless" and "novatelwireless" if you use a Sierra Wireless device of some sort and if you actually need the novatel drivers, but I think that you can safely get rid of the Seagate drivers (unless you need them for some sort of NAS???) and the other stuff.
Give a call back and tell us what you actually have and actually need. Most of it just looks like junk!

EDIT: And you definitely need to uninstall ANY SmithMicro software!!!
