Hi, I have a MacBook Air and when I'm at home or in a hotel I can easily connect to the internet via the WiFi. I am going to be spending some time with a family member and they do not have internet or a computer - what is the easiest and cheapest way for me to be able to use the internet on my MacBook Air at their house please? I am thinking a dongle but don't know anything about them.

Avoid dongles. Use a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot -- much more useful, and needs no driver.

yes, the airport card should be enabled in the network settings in network preferences. have you tried contacting netgear to verify what settings you need?? also, you may need a firmware update for your router. another thing to do if your settings are correct, but still not working, then simply power cycle the modem and the router. you could also reset router and modem, make a new location in the network settings, and then put in your settings again. make sure you keep your setting information written down. another thing you could try is pulling the /library/preferences/system configuration folder to the desktop. this wipes out the network settings completely. then create a new location and put in the settings. if this gets it working, then throw the folder in the trash. if not, then put it back in the original place and replace the copy with the older version. Is there any way to be able to listen to the radio when not in a wifi zone?

MY friend has a Samsung and listens to Heart radio when walking her dogs. The headset acts as the Ariel and I have tried everything but cannot get the radio as even with the app it is constantly buffering. As I enjoy the radio I am thinking of switching but will be sad to leave iPhone for this. Any advice??

HT4623 Has anyone had trouble installing 7.1 wirelessly on an ipad mini w/retina? I downloaded the update, but when I attempt to install, I get an error message saying that I am not connected to the internet when I know that I am!

It downloaded fine, but when I attempt to install it won't verify, saying that I am not connected to the internet when I know that I am! Tried on several wifi connections while plugged into power source. Any advice is appreciated!

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. The created program is not performing a command I have written when it tries to connect to the internet, it must be Labview that is doing it. How do I stop this from happening?

Why doesn't iPhone connect to the internet when connected a computer?

Why doesn't iPhone connect to the internet when plugged into a computer that has ethernet internet connection?

Also, computers don't work that way either to share a connection like that. Just because you plug a device into a computer doesn't mean it can use it's internet connection that way.
Windows Mobile devices have been able to use their host USB cable to connect to the internet, since at least the year 2000. (And vice versa, more recently.)
It was actually a minor surprise at first that Apple didn't support it.

Safari doesn't connect to the internet when on a wireless connection

Safari with 10.4.8 can't connect to the internet when on a wireless network. Ok with hard connection. What is strange is I Chat and AIM work OK wireless as well as E-mail. In internet connect the Airport shows full strength. Its just Safari that is not connected.

Power off the router. Wait awhile. Power it back on. Wait until all the lights are lit up properly.
It will take a while.
Restart the computer.

I use Mozilla firefox on my laptop and for some reason it keeps saying the connection timed out and I'm not connected to the Internet when I am. Why isn't iTunes recognizing my web configuration?

It probably has to do with your security and/or browser configuration.
When my laptop crashed last year and I had to get a new one, I dealt with the same thing. First, go to your control panel and select the security section. See if your firewalls are up or not. If they are, turn them off. If you have any software to speed up your browser, that can affect the connection as well. Go into that software and disble/turn it off. If this doesn't work, contact customer support. They have a few other tricks they had me try that worked, but I can't remember them now.

Premiere Elements 12.1 Constantly Connecting To The Internet When Running

Hi there!
I have an issue with Premiere Elements 12.1 constantly connecting to the Internet when running... it looks like it is either trying to connect to something or downloading something.
Premiere runs OK, but it is very slow: this is due to it trying to connect. (We've proved this by running the program without the Internet disabled... it sits at about 13,000K in memory... and works fine).
Anybody got any idea why it is connecting to the Internet in the first place and how we can stop it doing it.
We believe this issue started when we updated to v 12.1... but can't be sure!
We have tried uninstalling and re-installing it... same problem. We're virus checked till all night... nothing found (no root kits, nothing etc.)
We're running Win XP Service Pack 3, 32 bit... I know 'Windows XP is old etc. etc. etc.'. Yet it still works great and is nice and fast for us here.
Any advice/suggestions greatly received!

Thanks a bunch for the post... we're certainly experiencing no other issues besides the 'downloading' issue on Premiere... various virus/spyware etc. scans have revealed nothing. There's nothing odd in the Startup or process list...
PC operates entirely as normal... no unusual performance lags/Internet disconnections etc. No issues with other software, so far, after installing Elements.
So we're currently leaving the program on to 'download' (or whatever it is doing), so it could be that it will eventually stop constantly accessing the Internet.
We are already in contact with Adobe and they are keeping pretty tight-lipped about what it might be doing... saying (so far) only that Photoshop Elements/Premiere 12 does connect to CloudFront to 'download fonts'... (they were also basically indicating they thought it was our PC/a faulty install until we mentioned we knew it was CloudFront it was trying to connect to...)
...if the applications need to download stuff, then all Adobe has to say is 'it's perfectly normal, just wait for it to complete' then we would not be worried! All it needs is a simple notice to say that 'some additional downloads are required': give us a progress bar or something... no problem!
I can't think why else it would be connecting to the Internet???? (Well, a couple do come to mind..!)
We did pay for the download version of the software (we don't have physical installation DVDs) from one of Adobe's Registered resellers, so maybe that has something to do with it.
I suspect you are 100% correct and that it isn't in fact a bug, bit simply some additional data/content that needs to download etc. If this is the case, then maybe it is related to our broadband speed (which can variable as we live in a rural location).
As you say, if it was a bug everybody would have it! There is that thread I mentioned above, but that's for a previous version of elements I think... to me, as the user experiencing the issue, it definitely looks like a bug as it's rendering the software unstable!
Most likely it's just our bad luck and there's something specific to my installation that's tripping the software and causing the issue. I suppose it depends how you define 'bug'... if it's a normal operation of the software that just happens to disagreeing with my system... than Adobe would say 'that's not a bug'... but I would say 'it's a bug as it causes this problem'. It simply a question of perspective!
Anyway, it's mystifying to me: the software runs GREAT, when it's not trying to access the Internet. It's weird. You certainly can't complain, for price, it really is excellent software!

Just to be clear. You have downloaded the Yosemite installer. However you say while it's updating you get the error you are not online. This is confusing since you shouldn't be able to use your computer in the process of updating.
Exactly where do you see you need to 10.9 to get on Safari?

Ok, got it now. I turned the Mini off and rebooted. Seems to be working fine now.

See if either of these work. Restart and try again or reboot and try again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
