Best way to do mobile voice over work

Hi there, just asking if you have any advice for a set up for on location VO work. I have a decent mic, but am finding that at the clients premises, often the VO is echoing a bit. Is there a simple way to help avoid this. Also, when doing VO work at my location, is there a way of stopping my macs fan from cutting in all the time whilst working with a mic close by? Seems every time I click record and the client starts talking, the macs fairly loud drive starts spinning away.
Thanks
Stuart

thanks for your advice. I amusing a samsung C03U multi pattern usb mic, which was recommended by a local apple store? The best I have acheived so far is to set it on its figure of 8 symbol and with the symbol that looks like a hockey stick ! (roll off i think).
I was thinking that maybe a screen made of felt or something would help?, but thats me just thinking that the material would in some way deaden any echo.
Cheers
Stuart

  • Best way to handle mobile accounts with large itunes/photo libraries

What is the best way to handle mobile accounts, but not syncing itunes/photos libraries?
I have a time capsule so I can move itunes and photos libraries for each user if need be.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I've done a great deal of work with mobile accounts in Snow Leopard and I'm now having a "play" with Lion. To be honest you have to sit down and think about why you need mobile accounts.
If your user only uses one computer then your safer having a local account backed up by a network Time Machine, this avoids the many many woes that the Servers FileSyncAgent brings to the table.
If your users are going to be accessing multiple computers on the network and leaving the network then a mobile account is good for providing a uniform user experience and access to files etc. However, your users will have to make a choice as to whether they want their iPhoto libraries on one Local machine (backed up by Time Machine) or whether they want their library to be hosted on the server and not part of the Mobile Home Sync schedule (adding ~/Pictures to the excluded items on the home sync settings).
With the latter, users will be able to access their iPhoto libraries on any computer when they are within the network (as it's accessed from the users server home folder).
With the first option the user would have their iPhoto library on one computer (say the laptop they used the most) but then would not be able to access it from other computers they log on to.
iPhoto libraries are a pain, and I'm working hard to come up with a workaround. If your users moved over to using Apeture then you could include the aperture library as part of the home sync thanks to Deeport (http://deepport.net/archives/os-x-portable-home-directories-and-syncing-flaw-wit h-bundles/)
He does suggest that the same would work with IPhoto libraries - but it doesn't for a number of mysterious reasons regarding how the OS recognizes thie iPhoto bundle (it does so differently compared to Apeture).
    Hope this helps...

  • What is the best way to EDIT a voice narration in Premiere Elements 11?

What is the best way to EDIT a voice narration in Premiere Elements 11 when words or paragraphs have to be repeated?

    TomVideo4477
The rough description of Preview Window trimming..
    a. double click clip in Project Assets to bring up Preview Window
    b. move Timeline indicator to beginning of section, hit Set In; move Timeline indictor to end of section, hit Set Out.
    c. next you can drag the segment from the Windows to the Timeline audio track and/or drag the segment from the Preview Window to Project Assets to become part of the project's media.
The following should give you some thoughts on the above.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/06/pe11-project-assets-organization-for.html
Although more from a video trimming perspective, the principles apply to an audio clip as well.
Now "delete and close gap" can be interesting depending on what is around the area involved.
Please check out the details on that in the following.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2014/02/pe-delete-and-close-gap-failures.html
Not sure I am clear on
The “delete and close gap” option in the edit menu does not work. Do I have to move the file to the Narration Track on the Timeline to do the actual trimming?
You should be able to trim the narration in the Preview Window opened by right clicking the narration clip in Project Assets and then drag the segment to an audio track or narration track or dragging the trim to Project Assets for source media.
Please check out the above and then let me know if you are OK with the information. If not, let me know where I need to clarify what I have written.
    Thanks.

  • Sountrack or Logic/Logic Express for Voice Over work?

    Hello,
I am wondering which software is best for voice over work? Sountrack or Logic/Logic Express?
Any input would be great. I would add the standard effects/filters to certain voice overs and add sound effects and music.
I have a midi/guitar and garage band is enough for me. I would not want to use Garageband as my software of choice for voice over work. I want markers and other more advanced tools?
    Thanks,
    Erik

    Hi Erik,
I haven't used Logic or Logic Express, but I recently switched from Pro Tools to Soundtrack Pro 2. (I'm an independent producer/host for 2 weekly shows on Connecticut Public Radio.)
All I can say is this-- Soundtrack Pro has shaved hours off my Pro Tools workflow, is much more intuitive, and is (obviously) Mac-friendly, so I've been singing its praises ever since I made the switch.
In fact, I think Apple should be marketing it directly to radio stations!
    Hope this helps,

  • Best way to transfer large files over the Internet?

What is the best way to transfer files that are too large to send by e-mail over the internet, preferably ways that are free or very cheap and are easiest for sender and receiver to work with?
I assume one way is by ftp, but would that necessarily mean buying space on a server somewhere that both I and my recipients can get to? or is there a way to avoid this cost?

you can use a cloud storage like Mobileme (not free) or DropBox (free up to 2GB).
you can also use direct file sharing over internet. no extra software or 3rd party services required. that's what I use to move files between my home and work computers.

  • Best way for an SAP newbie to work towards SAP BW + HCM

Hi, I am looking to be a part of a SAP HCM analytics group however an completely new to SAP. I would like to know what would be the best way to learn it.  I am a Software engineer by profession however have not worked with SAP before. I have purchased a SAP Netwearver BI book from SAP press and have gone over various components of SAP BW, however not having a system to get my hands dirty learning is a challenge. Also from a functional perspective i have no experiance with HR and hence that is another challenge I am trying to work against. You help is appreciated.
    Thanks

Ya as I was typing my message I realized I probably wasn't going to need the .net connector since I want a very generic service that basically just hands off the payment details to SAP.
As for what is going to consume the webservice ideally it would be independent of the type of SAP being used since potentially serveral different SAP installations would be able to access the service.
For the first version I am making the service be consumed by SAP Netweaver 7 Trial version.  My company has a few clients using SAP lined up already to use the service once it is working but I don't know yet what version of SAP they each run.
If that is not possible I will either have to make a separate webservice for each type of SAP or else go another route and perhaps send the data as xml to SAP and let it import it on its own.
Right now I am playing around with the SOA manager, is that where the SAP PI is or am I on the wrong track.
I'll keep posting to this thread as I go along so someone in the future doing something similar can benefit.
I am trying to get the example at /people/wolfgang.bauer2/blog/2009/07/08/call-wcf-service-net-from-sap-with-usernametoken-and-ssl "Call WCF Service (.NET) from SAP with UsernameToken and SSL" going as a first step to understanding things.

  • IPad quit working but voice over works...?

My dad used his iPad all the way till it died, then when he tried plugging it back in, it wouldn't come on. So now it's just a plain black screen. We have charged it, and we have reset it numerous times and the logo only comes on for a split second then goes off. The voice over is the only thing that works. We keep reseting it and sometimes little glitches of the screen will come on for a nano-second and thats it. How do we fix this? And we have updated it on iTunes and charged it with different chargers and everything.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore and you have IOS-6 or lower, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Sound capture hardware/software for voice over work

Sorry if this is a little off topic,
    Environment: Production Premium CS3 (Windows)
I'm doing voice over audio capture for web videos. Currently, I use Soundbooth or the sound card software (Creative Labs) to capture.
    1. What is the best mic setup? I use a $30 headset boom mic. Is there a better way? I would rather record clean than spend time trying to clean up the audio. Any links to tutorials on setting up an audio studio?
    2. Should I use Soundbooth to capture?
    thanks for any ideas,
    fred

I use a $50 headset. I use Sb to capture VO audio. I also use Sb to clean up the audio.
If your room is fairly quiet or if the background noise is constant, then you can clean up the audio in Sb quickly. No need to go to the expense and trouble of creating a studio.
The trick is to capture 15-30 seconds (sometimes you can get away with less) of "silence" in the room so that you can use it as a noise print for the NR tool in Sb.
I've had good success using about 75%-80% for the amount of reduction.

  • What is the best way to store and iterate over lists of words?

    Hi,
Im trying to create a naive bayesian classifier to attribute aurthorship to some texts. I have three text files in the form of a list of words (listA, listB and listC, where listA is a disputed text and listB, listC are those of known authors). I need to feed these into my program, than compare listA to listB (to check if listA has the same words as listB), perform the classification and do the same for listA and listC.
Im new to java and would like to know the best way of comparing the text files....could i store listA in an array....listB in a hashmap, iterate over the hashmap to check which words are also contained in listA and store the similar words in a seperate arraylist?
    plz help.

If you just want to check if one set of words contains another set of words then something implementing java.util.Set might be sufficient. Read the API docs, you don't need to write much code yourself. Maps are for looking up values based on keys; your problem statement doesn't mention that so you don't need them. Lists are for when the order of entries matters. Read this for more information:

  • Is there a way to restore deleted voice overs in iMovie 11?

I recorded something through iMovie 11 once and then accidentally deleted it. It's no longer in my project. Is there a way to somehow retrieve this audio file? Does a voice over file even exist on the mac, or does it only exist on the project screen, something that can be gone for good if you press "delete?" If an actual file does exist, where can I find it on the mac? Spotlight won't help.

You need to select the Blue Yeti as your input device.
First go to System Preferences/Sound and click on Input Device. Make sure your Blue Yeti is in the list and selected. Make sure the red light is on on your Blue Yeti. After a period of unuse, it may turn itself off.
Then, in iMovie, start your Voiceover session by pressing the Microphone on the middle toolbar. You will get a screen like this where you can choose the Blue Yeti.
    Then follow the instructions here.
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3b0fb060
After you have recorded your voiceover, you can select the Voiceover Track and make additional adjustments in the Audio Inspector. For example you can use the Graphic Equalizer.
Having said all that, Garageband is a great tool if you need even more adjustments. You can export your movie to the Media Browser and do this in GarageBand, or, you can record a voice track in Garageband, render it as AIFF, and use it in IMovie.

I am looking for a good app that can help a college student with reading books that cannot be found on audio book.  I have tried voice over and it works but it's very monotone and it really strings things together.

Ah. I'm surprised, but there we go.

(courtesy of googling 'OSX free multitrack recording software')
Didn't have time to do more than skim, but 'Ardour' looked promising. Protools is the only one I've used, the full product is one of the industry standards, but the free 'lite' version listed here seems to be limited to 2 in/out as well.
Referring to your original post, I'd think trying to write or 'script' something would be a nightmare ... synchronisation of streams within something like Applescript would be a major issue, quite apart from anything else.

  • HT4865 What's the best way to protect student info and work saved to iCloud from their school iPads?

I'm doing some prep work for next year's implementation of iPads in some of the lower elementary classes at my school. I've read about the hack-ability of iCloud lately in the online articles. What was happening in Norway is exactly what could be happening in classrooms next year if certain security procedures aren't put in place. I would be grateful for any suggestions that you might have on how to beef up security for the students' work and info, and if you have any suggestions about the best ways to learn with iPads with children in grades K-4 (4-10 years old).
