Best way to download mp3?

What's the best way to download an mp3 from a Web page that's not part of a podcast subscription using iTunes 7.0.2?
I can download from my Web browser and then import into iTunes, but that's two steps.
I can select Import or Add File to Library and enter the URL, but the file ends up in a Windows temp folder, and I'm unable to edit the Info. (It's greyed out, and typically I want to change the genere.)
I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but certainly there must be a one-step way of doing this?

If you save the quicktime audio as a self cotained .mov format, it can be imported into itunes. It can then be converted to an mp3 by using the "covert selection to mp3" under the advanced menu if needed.
Hope this helps

  • What's the best way to transfer mp3 files from a thumb drive to an iphone?

    I have an iphone 5s. I also have multiple mp3's on a thumb drive. What's the best way to get them onto the iphone so that I can listen to them? I don't have a mac. PC only.

    Can itunes be used on a PC?
    Yes.  You are currently in the "iTunes for Windows" Forum.  85% of all iTunes installations on computers are running on Windows.

  • Best way to move mp3's to media server

    My iTunes mp3's are currently on my notebook but I would like to move them to an attached network media server. Can someone tell me the best way to do this and not lose all playlists, ratings, etc.
    Thank you.
    Sally

    Copy your itunes library to your new computer and restore it again. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1382 or http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
    Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able to merge your contacts and calendar.
    Set up your itunes account on your new PC, authorize it in the Store menu. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your phone and back up manually by right clicking on your iphone in the device list. Transfer your purchases the same way.
    All media content will be erased during the first sync. Get your data back by restoring from your manual backup after you synced.

  • What is the best way to download audio files?

    I am building a website for a church.  How do I put the weekly audio sermons on the site, so that the files don't take forever to download?
    I had a link with quicktime, but someone said they didn't have that plug-in, so I have embedded the files.
    ...what is the most popular and fast way for people to hear the sermons?
    I have split up the pages.
    I was hoping for one like, https://crosspointelpaso.ctsmemberconnect.net/sermon-ctrl.do?view=0&grpId=26073
    This is where I am now...http://www.estevanfaithlutheran.com/listentosermonsonline.html
    Thank you.
    Em

    The site that you referenced is using mp3 for the sermon audios...  if you look at the code for one of the links it is this:
    <a href="https://f1.ctsmemberconnect.net/garoupdb/O-0000000937/G-0000026073/audio/Sep 21 2008.mp3" title="" target="_blank">What Is God Looking At?</a>
    It then depends on what the client machine uses to run mp3s as to how they open, automaticallly or the viewer is asked whether they want to open the file using their mp3 player.  Probably more widespread than using quicktime.

  • Best way to download Adobe CS Master Collection 5.5?

    I purchased adobe cs5.5 master collection a year or two ago. It was shipped to me from the US to where I live in Germany by a friend, but the discs were stopped by customs and sent back. Not because of anything illegal at all, but because German customs is the worst thing in the world. They stop EVERYTHING, and if you dont go to the office (which is a 2 hour trip for me) within 1 week, they ship it back.
    Anyways, I legally own cs 5.5, and have my serial number, but I dont have any discs due to the above story. Now it used to be easy to download a trial version and enter my serial number but that is no longer possible. I have found some ways or locations for the 5.5 gigabyte file, but downloading a file this big in your browser download queue seems to be an exercise in frustration. If one thing fails, the whole download is lost.
    Any suggestions? I would love to have a LEGAL/non-cracked ISO of either the full version or the trial, so I dont have to go looking again if i need it in the future and can just burn a disc or two with the whole thing on it.
    It seems quite ridiculous that in this modern age, when you spend 2,000+ dollars on a piece of software, a year later that software is no longer available for digital download.
    NOTE: To any support people who will give me a download deeplink. I am trying this now, and as I wrote above, downloading 5.5gb in a browser is actually quite difficult.

    A “digital download” or "deep link" is what is provided on that download page.  An ISO would likely be much larger because it wouldn’t be compressed.
    The problem you’re having is your unreliable/slow internet connection.
    What I’d suggest is to use an application that will allow resuming a download after a broken connection.  The application I am currently using to download the 5GB file is called “Free Download Manager”.  I have it set to integrate with IE11 and I can right-click on the 5GB link and choose Download with Free Download Manager from the context menu in the browser and it is successfully downloading with multiple connections to maximize my internet bandwidth usage and there is an indication that says Resume Support: Yes for that server so I expect if something did happen to the connection I could resume the download at a later time without having to restart all over again.  Due to the Adobe authorization cookie requirements it does not work to drag-and-drop the link to the FDM’s dropbox, only to right-click the link in the browser and choose to download that way.
    FDM is available from here:  http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm
    As with any program like this watch carefully during the install for extra toolbars or other non-necessary things that might be installed, and if you’re particularly paranoid, then scan with ADWCleaner and MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware afterwards.
    It’s been so long ago that I installed this software that I don’t actually remember if there was any extraneous junk it tried to install or not, but there hasn’t been an ongoing problem since I do scan with the above mentioned software periodically.

  • Best way to download large files direct to disk?

    Hi,
    I am writing a process that will download a file (in the
    background, no GUI interaction) and will save it onto the users
    drive. Once it is saved to disk they will be notified.
    I don't want to use FileReference as that prompts the user, I
    also don't want to just use UrlStream direct into a ByteArray
    because the files can be quite big and I don't want to hog memory.
    What would you recommend I do? Is the only option to simply
    do an urlstream.readBytes() into a smaller temporary ByteArray and
    then immediately write those bytes to disk, rather than appending
    to an overall larger byte array that only gets written once the
    entire file is saved?

    I think it might be your lucky day, I think I just saw the
    article you need.....

    trying to learn JS and all this so I converted it....

    var urlReq = new air.URLRequest(urlString);
    var urlStream = new air.URLStream();
    var fileStream = new air.FileStream();
    urlStream.addEventListener(air.Event.COMPLETE, loaded);
    urlStream.addEventListener(air.ProgressEvent.PROGRESS,
    writeFile);
    var file =
    air.File.desktopDirectory.resolvePath("testing.png");
    fileStream.openAsync(file, air.FileMode.WRITE);
    urlStream.load(urlReq);
    function writeFile(event) {
    // only write every 50k or so downloaded
    if (urlStream.bytesAvailable > 51200) {
    // Read the buffer into a ByteArray and write it to disk
    var data = new air.ByteArray();
    urlStream.readBytes(data, 0, urlStream.bytesAvailable);
    fileStream.writeBytes(data, 0, data.length);
    function loaded(event) {
    // Write any remaining data to the file before closing it
    var data = new air.ByteArray();
    urlStream.readBytes(data, 0, urlStream.bytesAvailable);
    fileStream.writeBytes(data, 0, data.length);
    fileStream.close();
    </script>

  • Best way to download YouTube video?

    So, I read this article from MacWorld, and followed its advice. I downloaded this DownLoad Helper thing on my comp (Mac OS 10.6.8, browser Firefox 11):
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1164336/how_to_download_youtube_videos_using_safari_or_fir efox.html
    Now, from YouTube.com, I can download as .webm file format, and as .flv, neither of which can I import into Premier Elements 10. I think I need .mov or .mpeg
    But converting video file formats is tricky because it asks me this:
    What does this mean? I tried to follow instructions and "Configure conversion" but I keep running in circles and coming back to this pop-up box.
    What is happening? Is it possible to download video sfrom YouTube in a format that can be imported into Premier Elements 10?
    Thank you

    Too late, I already bought Premier Elements 10. I must say I haven't had any problems loading files. I did a rough draft of my video, exported to something (I forgot what file format I exported to) and converted to WMV. I burned that WMV on a DVd and gave it to my client.
    She hooked up her PC to the wide screen in a conference room, and tested the video. Worked like a charm.
    Video is only 12 minutes long. It will be about 6-7 at the end; I have to edit now.
    So, what I am doing now works for my purposes, unless I am not aware of some potential danger?
    I used Wondershare video converter to export as WMV. I used trial version. I can buy it, for my final output, so I don't have the watermark. Is that what you would recommend for conversion?
    Thank you

  • Best way to normalise MP3s, for use in iTunes, iPod, Window PCs & mobiles

    Ok, nearly got all my music/MP3s in order with Album art, lyrics, spelling etc etc in order.
    My last task for the ultimate library is to normalise them, ie make them all the same volume level so as not to keep adjusting the volume level when listening on iPods, iMacs, mobiles etc.
    I have heard of the sound check in iTunes and iPod, but this wont work if I put some of the MP3s onto my Mobile, or for my other computer a Windows XP machine.
    I have also heard of MacMP3Gain for Mac, MP3Gain for Windows. Do these work? they seem to be an old program.
    What does everyone else do? as I say its annoying prob, I want all my music at the same volume level so you can press play on shuffle and not have to keep adjusting
    please help
    cheers

    The help file for MP3 Trimmer under Basic Operation states...
    MP3 Trimmer help file states:
    To the left of the audio fade controls you'll find a checkbox to enable gain adjustments. If this button is disabled ('grayed out') Gain Adjust is not possible*. By clicking this button you enable the buttons to control the amount of Gain Adjust. Adjustments are set in relative percentage values.
    The Gain Adjust operation actually adjust the output gain of each frame, whichh is nothing like the 'adjust gain for this song' parameters in many audio playback devices/applications (they may only work for that specific device/application). The gain adjust performed by MP3 Trimmer is written to each and every frame of the song, which will allow it to work on all playback devices (hardware / software). It may seem pretty permanent, but you can always change the gain in opposite direction with no quality-loss (we're dealing with it binary here).
    A word of advice: It's easy to distort the audio if too much gain is applied. Use the audition feature to listen to the effect. In other words - use your ears....

    Patrick

  • What is the best way to download pictures from 5D Mark II to MacBook Pro

    when i transfer my pictures from 5D Mark II camera to MacBook Pro IPhoto, the older photos that are already on computer are put on again even though I on click selected photos

    Do you delete the pictures from the SD card after you copy them to the Mac?
    I use Aperture (and not iPhoto), and the default there is to import everything that is on the SD card, so you'd have to pick individual pictures instead of the entire card/folder. I would assume the iPhoto would exhibit the same behavior.

  • Best way to create an ".scc" closed-caption file?

    *I merely need to create an ".scc" file. I do NOT need to embed it myself.*
    My project is a 98-minute movie in English that needs closed captioning. I'll be delivering the .scc file to a post-production house who will make the final merger of .scc file to the already-created tape. So MY QUESTION IS what software options do I have?
    I hear about MacCaption. I try surfing the web to find a purchase page but I only find Demos or strangely cheap prices (like $5.00). I read all these posts that hint at its high price. Maybe I'm totally missing an obvious link but can someone tell me what is a good cheap program for creating ".scc" files for FCP? And if MacCaption is the best choice, what's the best way to download it?
    Shanked

    Michael,
    I've been to the link you pointed out, for MacCaption. I must be missing something but I cannot find any price anywhere on that site. I emailed them and have yet to hear a direct quote.
    As for Annotation Edit, thanks. That's a good tip. Seems like it's a steep $300 US, but that's better than the $980 I'd have to pay a lab for the service.
    If anyone else knows of a cheap alternative (for this one-time usage), please LET ME KNOW!
    thanks,

  • How to download mp3 files into iTunes

    This question differs from, but is related to subscribing to podcasts (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2124335&tstart).
    Rather than subscribing to a podcast, I just want to download a story http://transmissionsfrombeyond.com/podpresstrac/web/121/0/TFB_020TheWatersOfMeribah.mp3, hosted at http://transmissionsfrombeyond.com/2009/08/transmission20. I did File->AddFileToLibrary. The dialogue box that came up was pointing at a temporary internet file folder. For the file name, I provided the URL above, but all that happened was that it downloaded 2 files into the temporary internet file folder:
    TFB020TheWatersOfMeribah[1].mp3
    TFB020TheWatersOfMeribah[2].mp3
    Why are there 2 parts?
    I tried to drag them to the iTunes Podcasts area, then try to drag it to the Podcast entry in the navigation panel along the left. Neither action resulted in the appearance of the files in iTunes.
    I tried to find where iTunes stores its files. It seems to be at "My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music", though the folder structure in no way mirrors the 6 iTunes libraries (Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Applications, Radio). Previously suscribed podcasts had corresponding folders in the Podcasts subfolder, but there were no subfolders for the other five libraries.
    I dragged the two mp3's into the Podcasts subfolder, but it didn't show up in iTunes. I then emulated the previously subscribed podcasts by creating a TheWatersOfMeribah folder within the Podcasts subfolder, then dragged the mp3's into that folder. Again, no joy.
    Surely, I doing something very wrong. What is the way to download mp3's into one's iPod Touch?

    Apple rejects my alias wrote:
    That's the thing, it's not a subscription podcast. It's just an mp3 file. Entering a URL as worked for subscription podcasts, but hasn't worked for the URL of the mp3 file.
    No, it won't!
    I've checked the links you provided and the problem is - they are not Podcasts (as you noted), despite what the text on the page says. In order to get these programmes into the Podcast section of iTunes, they must be downloaded _as Podcasts._ So why not get the Podcast?
    First, let's get the Podcast, then I'll explain what the problem has been.
    To actually get the Podcast; on the pages you linked, look for and click on the *iTunes/1 click* button, just above the donate button. You may get a dialogue box appear that says "This link needs to open an application. Send to:" and one of the choices should be iTunes - choose it. That step may be skipped and you may go straight to iTunes.
    When iTunes does open, it should go to the *iTunes Store/Podcasts/.../Transmissions From Beyond* page, where you can select individual episodes or subscribe to the complete series. Make your choice. The advantage of subscribing is that iTunes will then do all the work of finding new episodes, downloading them and syncing them to your iPod.
    An alternative is to search in the iTunes Store for "Transmissions From Beyond" which will find the Podcast. I've just done this, so I know it works!
    Now, what was the problem?
    On the pages you linked to, the authors keep referring to everything as a Podcast, but an mp3 file _is only a Podcast_ if it's downloaded through a "Podcast catcher", such as iTunes. This whole process then keeps track of new episodes and can also automate the removal of an episode that you have listened to if you wish. (See the options in the Podcast tab of your iPod when you connect it to iTunes.)
    If you download the mp3 files as you did, they are simply mp3 files, which will end up in the music section of your library, perhaps with a genre of Podcast. (To be a Podcast, the file needs to have a *Media Kind* of Podcast, not the genre. A Podcast can have any genre, speech, music, drama etc.)
    As you have seen, even the content providers are mis-informed about what a Podcast is.
    By the way, when you tried "entering the URL" - iTunes will only recognise valid *Podcast Feed URLs,* but not the location of an mp3 file. The enter URL option is useful if you have the *Podcast Feed* of a Podcast that is not listed in the iTunes Store.
    Finally, in fact you have downloaded the mp3 file _three times._
    The first time as TFB020TheWatersOfMeribah.mp3,
    the second time as TFB020TheWatersOfMeribah[1].mp3,
    and a third time as TFB020TheWatersOfMeribah[2].mp3
