Best Way to Export 24p from FCP for Compressor

When you click file> export...
You are prompted to the drop down menu that says stuff like quicktime movie, quick time conversion, export for Compressor, etc.
My question is do you think "exporting for compressor" is a good workflow?
My two main criteria for "good workflow" being 1) speed and 2) quality of final image.
Thank you,
Trey

If you're doing compositing or color correction work in FCP that degrades when rendering because you're using a highly compressed codec (like DV or HDV), then sending an unrendered timeline directly to Compressor produces the best quality.
Outside of that, exporting a reference movie from FCP (from a rendered timeline) then dropping that into Compressor is the fastest way to go. Especially if you're working with a 4-core or better machine (then encoding time is greatly reduced).
Otherwise, if you're working with, say, the iMac listed in your profile, sending unrendered material directly from Compressor will take about twice as long as a QT movie would.

  • What is the best way of exporting artboards from Illustrator for use in InDesign?

    Hi,
I have an artboard in Illustrator CS6 which contains some text with a scribble effect applied to it.  I would like to use this text in an InDesign CS6 document.  I am wondering what the best way of exporting/importing this artboard would be so that I get the best quality.

Save as an AI file with PDF compatibility enabled and the Document Raster Effects set to "High"; then use File>Place in ID.

  • What could be the best way to Export data from 11.5.8 instance to 12.1.2?

    Hi All
What could be the best way to Export data from 11.5.8 instance to 12.1.2?
    Release: 11.5.8
OS: Oracle Solaris on SPARC (32-bit) verison 9
    DB: 9.2.0.1
    Thanks in advance

What kind of data you are looking to move?
Database export/import is only supported for full database export/import and the application release should be the same on the source/target nodes.
You can move the setup using iSetup or FNDLOAD.

  • What is the best way to export HDV from Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 ???

Should I even use the compressor route? i want my to export hdv footage to dvd studio pro and burn to dvd. i want to understand the best way so it looks like the original mini hdv tape.
can anyone help that has experience in this area?

you can use compressor to encode your HDV footage.
believe it or not, you can obtain stunning results when you encode and output to DVD.
i guess my only questions to you are:
will you want to output a "HD DVD" or a SD DVD?
    how long is your footage?
in what mode did you shoot (720p or 1080i)?
what type of footage, overall, would you say you have (fast action paced, slow action, interviews)?
to be honest with you aaron, there isn't really a setting that is a "set all". compression is both an art and science. additionally, quality of your encoded file can be very subjective!
let me know and we can get ya started on the right track

  • Exporting QT from FCP for website

I recently posted about this and got a good answer, but now I have more questions.....
I have a DV NTSC 48K 4:3 project in FCP that is 2 minutes long. I exported it as a QT through QT Conversion at a size of 320x240, and chose AAC as a sound format, with a 192 target bit rate. The QT looks good, but it is 21.9 MB, which I think may be too big for easy access on a website. Maybe there isn't a way to make it smaller in terms of MB's and still look good, but if there is, I'd love to know.
I noticed that there are export options in the QT Conversion menu settings like "broadband", etc. Are any of these recommended?
I'm new to the website-making part of this, so keep that in mind for your answer - thanks!

You're in for a fair bit of experimenting. And the bad part is that no one but you can really say what is good enough.
When it makes sense I post both an h264 QT and a wmv, sometimes even make various wmv's at different bitrates for those poor saps with stone age computers.
That's another decision you've got to make: do you want EVERYONE to be able to see it, or do you just go with the best and to heck with anyone who can't figure out how to download QT player?

  • Export settings from FCP for viewing on a PC?

Hi, I need to export a FCP sequence so that it can be played from a clients PC hooked up to a screen.
I've tried H.264 but there's a massive loss of quality in the result. Am I missing a setting? The Pro Res export looks perfect but I understand this wont play on a PC and as the file's going to be passed around I wont be able to install anything on the end users PC.
New to AV so would be grateful for any help.
    Thanks

How are you exporting h264?  There are bunch of very useful presets in compressor that can deliver excellent quality.  First off, I think you need to make sure that the pc user has quicktime installed.  If you can't controll what's installed on the pc, I would purchase one of the flip4mac options which will allow you to export a wmv which will open on any pc (I think).  Sorenson Squeeze also offers wmv export options (I think).

  • Help: Export format from FCP for DVD Studio

What settings do I export my 3 minute film so I can use DVD Studio Pro? (What size do I want if I want my film to be wide screen just like a professional DVD movie you buy at your nearest store?)
    Thank You!

In FCP, go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie. You can choose to make the file self-contained or not. Do NOT recompress all frames. The resulting file will be an exact copy of your Sequence in FCP.
Use that file in Compressor. Choose the appropriate preset for DVD. Compressor will create an MPEG-2 (.m2v) video file and an AC3 audio file. Use those two files in DVD-SP for authoring.

  • What is the best way to export the 30min video for clients?

how can I export the best result video that I can fit it in DVD???

Go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie (do NOT use "QuickTime Conversion").  You can chose to make the movie self-contained or not, but be sure to include chapter markers if needed and do NOT "Recompress All Frames."
Use the resulting file in Compressor and the appropriate DVD preset.  Compressor will produce two files; an MPEG-2 video file (.m2v) and a Dolby Digital audio file (.ac3).
Use those two files in DVD Studio Pro for authoring and burning.

  • What's the best way to export Photos from Aperture to iPhoto

    Hi,
    so heres the deal:
My father has a really old/slow mac and whenever he tries to export more than like 3 photos from aperture the computer freezes.
So to get his photos i thaught i could just copy his aperture library onto my external hd.
but will i be able to import the photos into iphoto? and i'd like to not have the originals but the edited photos.
or will i have to export the photos from aperture (e.g. with my brothers, faster mac...)

Paul, do your father and you have compatible versions of iPhoto and Aperture?  Aperture 3.3 and iPhoto 9.3 or later?
Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture
With the new, unified library architecture you can simply open an Aperture library in iPhoto - no need to import anything.
If the Aperture library is not compatible, from an older Aperture version, you can try to export the versions on your brother's mac (file > Export > Versions).
My father has a really old/slow mac and whenever he tries to export more than like 3 photos from aperture the computer freezes.
That is not normal, however old the mac is.
Either his hard drive is too full and needs freeing disk space, or he has imported corrupted images, or his Aperture library needs repairing or rebuilding.  He should try to repair his library, if he has used "force quit" on Aperture.  See: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual

  • Best way to export data for a migration

    Hi Oracle Community,
What's the best way to export data from an Oracle 8i database for it to be suitable for import into an Oracle 10g database?
What's the best way to export data if it is to go into different rdbms database?
    Thanks, David

Thanks everyone for all your help. You guys are great.
There seems to be many good ways to export your data from Oracle into a flat file format, suitable for import into other RDBS': Oracle, mysql, postgresql, etc.
A few tools where mentioned but using SQL*Plus, which comes with Oracle (And SQL*LDR on the backend, which also comes with Oracle) seem the most straight forward.
I found this script on asktom.oracle.com to work great, slightly modified here,
(to Include linesize max, and pipes rather than commas):
set echo off newpage 0 space 0 pagesize 0 feed off head off trimspool on
    set linesize 32767
    spool payment.txt
    select
    PAYMENT_ID||'|'||
    USER_ID||'|'||
    <more fields her>
    from
    payment
    spool off
    exit ;
It works great. Rather than making one of these for each table I wrote an perl script called ora_export. http://crowfly.net/oracle/ora_export. It runs in Unix and only requires SQL*PLUS. It creates these four files:
<tablename>.def # list of table columns and types (SQL*Plus DESC)
<tablename>_dump.sql  # a script to export the data
    <tablename>.psv # THE DATA (eq. - name|address|etc)
<tablename>_load.ctl  # SQL*LDR control for ORCL if you need it.

  • Exporting text from fcp

I have a lot of separate text boxes in my sequence. Since I can' t do a spell check in fcp, I was wondering if i can export all the text boxes out as a plain text document to do a spell check.
I tried exporting as a xml document, but navigating through all the tags was quite a problem.
    TIA for any suggestions.

    Usual workflow is following.
    1. Put all Text-generator clips to one track
    2. Export sequence to XML
    3. Launch TitleExchange, point to exported XML and say where to put converted file.
Exporting to STL you'll get text file like that
    +00:01:27:26 ,00:01:29:26 ,They had this idea that+
    +00:01:29:30 ,00:01:30:31 ,behind scary+
... which you can open in any spell-checker.
We use TitleExchange to bring subtitles from FCP to DVD Studio and back (in case we need subtitled DVD and Betacam output)
Though, this may be much expensive way of checking spelling (135 Euro per TE licence).
There are lots of subtitle software, I only wanted to mention a way of exporting text from FCP with help of subtitle processors.

  • NTSC to PAL - Export straight from FCP or use an mpeg file?

    I was reading this
    http://www.macworld.com/article/49306/2006/02/marchcreate.html
however it does not mention what to bring into compressor.
Should I export my ntsc sequence straight from FCP into compressor, or should I drag an ntsc mpeg file I aldeady made into compressor? Ive been trying the latter but can't do much as each step gives me the spinning beach ball for anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. Thanks much.

Yes, you should export directly from FCP Using Compressor. Exporting to a heavily compressed MPEG-file, and then converting that from NTSC to PAL makes no sense. You would want your video to go through as few conversions/generations as possible.

  • Best Way of Exporting for iDVD when using FCP?

What would anyone recommend in terms of getting the best output from FCP for making an iDVD?
I usually export as a self-contained QT movie. Is there a better way?
    J.M. Prater

There's an easier way... export a non self contained movie. The result will be the same... just faster file export and smaller file to boot.
DVD SP will make a lot better looking DVD's if you have that. The encoding done through Compressor is better than what can be done in iDVD.

  • What is the best compressor setting to use ... when exporting a 720p timeline from FCP for a project that will only be played back in a standard def monitor?

What is the best compressor setting to use for DVD StudioPro ... when exporting a 720p 30 timeline from FCP for a project that will only be viewed in a standard def monitor?

Update: The iBook can play any 480p video and higher if I encode them with DivX and in AVI format. But of course this is not compatible with my iPhone 4. At least I can shrink my library now and get away from the full MPEG-2s. I don't get why I can't use Apple's h264 though. There has to be a setting I am missing. The sample Apple h264 videos from the days of Tiger worked flawlessly on my iBook when it was new so the CPU must be capable of decoding it. I really can't understand this.
Also, since I made my videos in English for my family, I had to create soft subtitles for my wife's Chinese family, and I can't get players like QT with perian or MPlayerX to sync them properly to an AVI encoded with DivX, they only sync well with the iPhone 4 m4v/mp4 formatted files I made. This is a real pickle.
So now I may need three or four copies of each video, LOL. I need to hardcode the subtitles if I want to use AVI to playback on older machines, and keep the mp4 file for the iDevices too, while keeping higher quality h264 videos for my American relatives...
If h264 is compatible with my iBook, what is the proper encoding settings? Must I dramatically lower the settings or frame rate? I can settle on 2 copies of each video that way. One iBook/G4/eMac compatible video that syncs correctly with my srt soft subs, and another version that works well with my iPhone 4 and iPad.
All in all, I will end up with more than 3 or 4 version of each video. On my late G5 dual core I have the full 720-1080p uncompressed master files. On my i5 iMac I have the h264 compressed versions for distribution, and lower versions for my iDevices. Now I need to keep either full MPEG-2 files for the iBook to play, or convert to older formats like DivX AVI for our family's legacy machines. I am running out of hard disk space quick now, LOL.
    Is there an easier way?
