Best way to extend battery life?

I have been using my IPAD with it being plugged in when I can. I feel this may help to prolong battery life than for the battery to charge/discharge so often. Any thoughts? Thank you!

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Satellite U405 - What is the best way to increases battery life

Hi everyone!
I've been looking for this quite a bit and all I could find are conflicting answers and some confusing instructions... :)
Even the PDF file for my U405 has some conflicting tips (is it recommended to fully discharge it or not?)
Let's say that I don't want to remove it and store it with a 40% charge in a low temperature location (?) because I also want to trust it as a UPS (power failures are common where I stay).
So, in short, what is the best way to prolong my battery life to its maximum? Should I fully discharge it once a month or only half way through? Should it never be fully charged or that's actually a good thing?
Thanks in advance for any wisdom anyone can offer on this!

The best way would be indeed to put it out of the notebook, but you already said, you won't do this.
So, I would say to fully unload the battery once in a while and load it to a maximum.
This is all I can tell you right now, but don't know how much this will increase the battery's life.

Best Way To Optimize Battery Life?

Just got my new iphone and I'm just wondering what the best way to optimize/charge the battery is. With other cell phones I've been warned about overcharging (keeping it plugged in once it reaches 100%), and I've heard that this is not the case with the iPhone's lithium battery. Is this true?
Also, I've been hearing that I should avoid letting the battery drain and to charge it whenever I get the chance rather than waiting until it's getting close to dying. Once again, with other cell phones I've heard the opposite of this. Is this the best strategy?

I'm talking about preserving the battery itself.
Like is it better to let the battery run all the way down before you recharge it or charge it as soon as it gets around 40-50% or every couple of days?
I have my blackberry which I charged every night regardless for months and months and now about a year later, the battery is basically crap and I'm lucky if I don't have to charge it every night now.
Same concept apply?

Yup, the backlight is the biggest battery drain.

Rechargeable batteries don't last forever. I supervise a cell phone repair department. We generally tell customers that, with average use, a battery will last about a year. Heavy users, it can be six months. Many Blackberrys have big screens, too. Over time, no matter what you do, a rechargeable battery will lose capacity and eventually, not hold a charge. At least your Blackberry has a user replaceable battery and you can pick one up for less than $40 dollars!

How can I get the best out of my battery life?

There are a variety of things you can do to extend your device battery life, and use your phone for longer periods of time to see you through the day.
Set your screen to timeout after a period of inactivity. This way your phone is not sitting idle with the screen backlight consuming extra energy. The recommended screen timeout is 30 seconds, but most phones will allow from 15 seconds to 10 minutes.
Turn off location services (GPS), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not using these functions. When they're on, your phone constantly searches for your current location and open networks, which has a big impact on battery life.
Turn down the screen brightness. For example, on an iPhone 4 the lowest brightness setting gives roughly 6.5 hours of continuous use, whereas the highest setting gives roughly 3.5 hours. You can always adjust the brightness when you're outside so you can still see your screen clearly. Close your applications. On smartphones, returning to the ‘home' screen only minimises your apps – they keep running in the background. When I make phone calls people on the other end have difficulty hearing me. They describe as they can hardly hear me as if I was speaking through the pillow etc). I am not touching any buttons and obviously it is not mute. This was happening couple of time in June, then every now and then. Recently it happened a few time in 2 weeks. I was trying to check if it was a reception issue but the place I spoke from is my office I make 70% of phone calls from. Can you book time for me in repair shop and address the issue.

I have an Macbook 5,2 and recently I update Mac OS X from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (10.8.3 12D58). Current main problem is my battery life reduced from 5 hours to 1:58:00. This is crazy. Advice required on best practices to prolong battery life

I will take delivery of a MacBook Pro 15.4 2.6Ghz with 2Mb RAM in two weeks time. I am upgrading from my current iMac G5 and will use the MBP with an Apple 23 inch Cinema Display as my main desktop machine. I decided on this configuration as it will allow me excellent desktop power with the bonus of portability. The MBP will be on my desk, plugged into mains power for 95% of the time. Can anyone advise me as to the best way to prolong the life of the battery as I am pretty sure that leaving the battery constantly charging in this way is not good practice. I would appreciate any advice which anyone can offer. Thank you.

The best way to maintain good battery performance and longevity is to regularly use your MBP on battery. I generally recommend using laptops in battery for on average around an hour per day along with a calibration every 4-8 weeks. What I do is to use it on battery when lightly using it in front of the TV during the late evenings.
What complicated matters for yourself is that you're going to be using an external display so your MBP will be all wired up like someone stuck in The Matrix.

The BlackBerry PlayBook may come to a power state where it is unable to power on; a Yellow LED may flash in a sequence of 5 flashes, the BlackBerry PlayBook may boot up to the BlackBerry PlayBook Logo and then power off, may not power on at all.
Discharge behavior under normal use:
Under normal active use, a battery drained to 10% will cause the device to prompt the BlackBerry PlayBook user (notification and audible beep)
Without connecting a charger the device will automatically shut down at 3.53V (0%)
Pressing the power button may allow successful boot, but it will turn off again very quickly
Discharge behavior under no use:
A device left unused but in ‘Stand By’ will warn the BlackBerry PlayBook user at 10% (notification and audible beep)
The warning may not be noticed and the device will go back to ‘Stand By’
Letting the device drain in standby mode drains the battery slower, but more completely
Device will still shut off at 3.53V (0%), but it less likely to successfully boot afterwards
Discharge behavior under 3.53V (0%):
If the device is left to shutoff, the battery will continue to drain below 3.53V due to quiescent current draw from the motherboard and the battery fuel gauge
With the battery between 2.7V-3.53V, pressing the power button causes the LED to flash a pattern (1 solid red light followed by 5 yellow blinks) to indicate low battery (PlayBook Tablet OS version 1.0.5, and above)
Below 2.7V there is no activity, or LED pattern displayed
Charge Behaviour:
The provided charger should be used to charge the device. The optional 12 volt rapid charger is may reduce charging times
to approximately 3 to 4 hrs. Standard Blackberry smartphone chargers, other AC adapter USB chargers, or computer USB ports
are not recommended for the sole purpose of charging the PlayBook as with these methods it may take more that 12 hours to
charge the BlackBerry Playbook.
If the battery voltage is below 3.53V(0%) then the charging behaviour is dependent on the software version. The charging code will limit the charging current to under 400 milliamps, during which time, it may take an hour to reach 3.53 Volts. Once the battery voltage rises past 3.53 volts, then "high-rate" charging will start. If, after charging the Tablet for 4 to 6 hours still does not result in LED activity, attempt to force power on the BlackBerry Playbook by pressing and holding only the Power Button for only 20 seconds.
Prior to BlackBerry Tablet OS 1.0.5:
A BlackBerry PlayBook will never charge while powered off in BlackBerry Tablet OS versions prior to 1.0.5.
The device will show a red light when the charger is connected and then nothing more
Repeated connection of the charger can recover the device in some instances.
Once the battery voltage rises above 3.53V the system will boot and the UI will show charging
Starting in BlackBerry Tablet OS 1.0.5:
The device will show a solid red LED, followed by a solid yellow LED as the device boots into charging mode. This is followed by a yellow pulsating LED indicating charging in progress.
The time span between the red and yellow lights can be as long as 45 seconds as the device boots into charging mode.
Once the yellow LED illuminates, the device can be started, but it is advisable to let it charge for at least 3.5 hours to achieve a sufficient charge.
The device will show a solid green LED once the device is fully charged.
Starting in BlackBerry Tablet OS 2.0.1:
Once the yellow LED begins pulsating indicating charging mode, if the BlackBerry PlayBook is disconnected from the charger, the following graphic will be displayed on the screen, indicating charging is not complete, and to reconnect the power source. The graphic will be displayed for 20 seconds before the BlackBerry® PlayBook powers off if the power source is not reconnected. The same graphic will also be displayed if the BlackBerry PlayBook is turned on and there is not sufficient power to perform the boot process.
If the BlackBerry PlayBook is plugged into a power source, and the power button is pressed to power on the device, the following graphic will be displayed if there is not sufficient power to perform the boot process. If this occurs, the BlackBerry PlayBook should be left plugged in to gain enough charge to boot.

I was wondering what kind of set up do people have in their house to ensure a good coverage all around the house? I've tried several options and none seems to work correctly. I've tried Time capsule + airport base, I've tried two time capsules, but didn't get too far.

Do you get good coverage all around your house? how big is your house?
The size of the house is not really the issue nearly as much as the obstructions in the signal path. For example, a wireless signal will easily travel 100 feet with no obstructions slowing down the signal.
A "typical" wall of sheetrock and 2 x 4s in a home will on average, absorb about 15-20% of the signal. So, with 3-4 walls in the signal path, it is not hard to understand why a signal will likely be much weaker at the other end of the house, or at the point where you add an "extending" device.
A ceiling is usually about twice the thickness of an average wall or more, so you'll have to take that into account as well if you have multiple stories.
The "extending" device can only repeat the signal that it receives, so if it gets a weak signal, it "extends" a weak signal.
The "best" way to extend is connect the two wireless devices using an Ethernet cable, which may not be easy depending on the construction of the home, but it is by far, the "best" way to provide more wireless coverage to remote areas that need it.

i live in a two storey house where i use my airport express to create a wireless network in the main floor, and time capsule to extend it in the upper floor, where my room is. i have like 16 mbps in the main floor, and 2-3 mbps in the upper floor after having speediest.
i used time capsule in the upper floor because i use wireless backup daily and don't want to put internet down while i im doin it and consequently my parent can have internet access in the main floor, am i right? or do i have make just the opposite in order to have a good internet speed?
secondly, while checking airport express wireless mode on airport utility, there is like 4 different type of radio mode(802 11n bg comp, 802 11n 2.4, 802 11n a comp, 802 11n 5ghz) which i have no idea what they mean
what do you recommend?
we have like iphone4, iphone 3g, mbookpro, ipad, ipad 2, samsung tv and a sony vaio laptop in the wireless network

What you have would appear to be working but I can comment how I would redefine your setup. Note that both Airport Express and Time Capsule can function as wireless base stations so you do have wireless everywhere and at all times — using the Time Capsules for backups doesn’t mean your parents won’t have internet access regardless of the where the base stations are located.
You appear to have devices to connect to your network that use the 2.4 GHz band with 802.11g such as the iPhone 3G and perhaps the 5 GHz band with 802.11n such as likely the Macbook Pro if it’s a recent model. The iPhone 4 can use 5 GHz and 802.11n. Can’t comment on the Sony and Samsung but you can check their specs.
Now the Time Capsule (if it’s a recent version), can simultaneously supply 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band signals, but the Airport Express (if it’s recent) can only use one of those bands at one time. Likely the lowest common denominator for your devices is going to be the 2.4 GHz band since the devices that are capable of using 5 GHZ also support 2.4 GHz. If you don’t use 5 GHz, you won’t lose much in a two-storey home because likely it’s the 2.4 GHz band is better signal anyway because 5 GHz signals drop off quickly with several walls/floors to penetrate.
You also didn’t mention if the Airport Express is used to support a printer and/or AirPlay (using iTunes to play on remote speakers via the Airport Express connection) but that might also be a factor in the best location to place the Airport Express. Although the printer could be switched between the Time Capsule and the Airport Express if needed, only the Airport Express will support your remote speakers.
Recommend you use the Time Capsule as the Base station. When using Airport Utility to define the network, after you name your network, etc., select the Wireless tab, check the box “Allow this network to be extended” and set the Radio Mode to "802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)”.
Using the Airport Utility, click on the Airport Express; after you define the device and network name, select the Wireless tab, define the Wireless Mode as “Extend a Wireless Network” and check the box “Allow wireless clients”.

Like most folks, I had no idea what a poor choice it was to let my internet service providor install my DSL connection in the far corner of my home. So until I install a phone or cable jack in the middle of my place, half my signal is wasted in the back yard, while the other end of my house is out of range.

My question is... what's the best way to extend my Airport Extreme wireless signal? I tried using my Airport Express as an extender but recently read that this actually weakens the signal. If that's wrong, how should I configure them to work?

Can anyone suggest the best way to extend both b/g and n wireless networks using a dual band AEBS, an AEBSn and AXs b/g?
I have two areas of the house served by cat5. Right now I have a wired AX set "Join wireless network" and an AEBS n wired and set to "Join wireless network". Wondering if that is the best way to do the b/g.
I have an extra AX. Wondering if I could do AEBS Main to cat5 to small switch in other part of house with cat5 to AX set to "join wireless network" to extend the b/g and cat5 to the AEBS set to "extend network" to extend the n component of the network in the same space?

Yes "Solution 3:" is what you want to use.
Yes your MacBook will pick the "best" base station to connect to at any given time. Only Apple's engineers know the algorithm used to determine which offers the "best" connection.
