Best Way to flash bios?

I've currently been reading about flashing bios, which I have discovered numerous ways to accomplish the same task. My question is what does everyone preferr, and how can u flash a bios if you dont have a floppy drive (assuming your using a beta bios and cannot use the windows bios update).
The first method I have seen is by flashing the bios using 2 discs... one a win 98 boot disk (which I had to find online because I'm running xp)... the other a disc with the award patching prog and the bios itself....it seems to me this is the only method in which users using windows xp (home/pro) with NTFS can flash their bios (Except option 2 which is not recommended as being safe). It works by creating a "ROM drive" in the systems memory and can avoid using the C: as it is protected by NTFS.... This is unfortunatly a pain unless you have floppies and a floppy drive.
Option 2 involes using one disc as a boot disk (xp boot disk) and then putting the bios files on that disc aswell.. This will cause the flashing to take place reading purely off the floppy (which I have read is not recommended, and I must agree as floppy drives are pretty old technology that has frequent problems).
The third and final option is to use the Windows Bios Update program which installes the bios with xp running (something I still dont fully understand how can be accomplished)... the big downside to this method is that as far as I can tell only the official bios can be used to do this... ruling out all beta versions from being used ... a dissapointment in my opinion.
In conclusion, what do you all recomend and/or do you have methods that are safer or easier? Thanks For your time

  • Best way to flash Bios for z87 G45 Gaming mobo?

Alright guys. My computer has been acting up a little bit recently with any USB devices on the PC tower iself acting up. Both the 3.0 ports and the regular 2.0 ones too. Constant disconnects. Think it's time to update my Bios. Currently running 1.5 and I believe that 1.9 is the most recent.
What's the best way to flash the Bios. I've done it before via the flash tool about a year ago but cant remember anything about how I went about it.
Is this still the best way? Any tips and hints on what to do, and more importantly, what not to do.
Will I have to update the ME version too or will that be done at the same time.
I see in Live Update that there is also a new bios for my GPU (MSI GTX 970). Should I let Live update install that for me?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • X79A-GD65(8D) Best way to flash BIOS?

Hey everyone got the X79A-GD65(8D) and would like to flash to the latest BIOS but I have a few questions. First off, I can't seem to download the latest BIOS version for my mobo from the msi site. All the other versions are fine but the latest one leads to a "page cannot be displayed error"
Here is the link I am talking about.
    http://us.msi.com/product/mb/X79A-GD65--8D-.html#/?div=BIOS
So since, I can't download the latest one I downloaded the one previous. Now my question is how do I flash this puppy? Do I just copy the file to a flash drive and run it at boot? ANy help would be appreciated.

Should I be using a bios from the link you provided instead of the MSI main page?
Yes of course therefor Sea Dog linked to it. 4.4: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=163918.msg1260356#msg1260356
Use the file and follow the instructions there. Still I'd wait for 4.6

  • Need to know completly safe way to flash bios plz! (I have mobile chip!)

I want to flash to the newest bios because they fully support mobile chips I heard. I'm pretty sure flashing with a floppy drive would be best.(i also have a usb pen drive, would this work?) How can I flash so that if something does go wrong I can easily go back to the bios that was just in it? Because I want to be sure it will run with my mobile chip. Thanks.

    I read down here..
One more suggestion, if you are going to play with different bios get a bios savior.I had one from my DFI mb so I switched it over as soon as I got my MSI K8N Neo platinum
I am going to assume that it must work, and is prolly the RD1-PMC4 Bios Savior as that fits the DFI Nforce2 board.

  • Best way to flash something ON/OFF in premiere?

Here is a scenario: You want a graphic element to flash on and off every second in a 2 hour long sequence, what is the fastest and most efficient way to do this in premiere CS5?
Now in after effects this would be done fairly simply with an expression and i am tempted to do a test and dynamically link it into premiere and see what happens.
Now the most basic method is obviously to stick it in the timeline and copy and paste until your timeline is filled. This will end up with that graphic in the timeline 3600 times.
Now we did a project like this and had 6 sequences with it and it brought CS4 to it's knees in a crushing defeat. the project was 75MB (yes bytes!) and took 10 minutes to load and CS4 was fairly dysfunctional once it loaded. Now converting it into CS5 was better and it could at least handle it but it still was the slowest i have ever seen CS5 run, it took 2 minutes to load but it least it was somewhat editable after it loaded.  The project only had like 10 media files in it.
Is there some faster and more effecient way to do this type of effect? apparently premiere can't really handle having that many edits in a sequence. I thought about trying to just adjust the transparency 0 to 100% but cant think of any way to replicate that easily.
in the end we just had to render it out and delete the sequence to make it work but we want to have it in the project and be able to change things and not pre-render.
    thanks

  • MSI DK790 GX (non platinum) - Flashing bios

    Hello there!
First things first, please accept my apologies if my language seems wrong. I'm not a native english speaker, and do not hesite to ask to repeat.
Second thing, i've read some similar topic but i'm still confused about how i have to flash my motherboard who got the CMOS checksum error which seems to be resolved by a bios update (aswell as the phenom II 940 black recognition).
    Here are my questions :
    - Just curiosity : what is the difference between platinum and non platinum?
    - As stated, i've read similar topic, but there are a lot of files and methods of application. SO far, i've read :
http://www.msicomputer.com/support/images/BIOS_FD.pdf <- a way to prepare a USB key. With invalid links now
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=e27cbe18b80fdde8139d2f1fc3536015&topic=116721.0  <- MSI hq usb bios flash tool

And i got the following files :
AFUD4280.zip (taken from : http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?nnzwenux0mz ) - is it an OK file? is there any newer BIOS?
    The amiflash
And the MSIHQ Tool 1.17x9 Installer
So i do not really understand all those post, i mean i'm a bit confused about how to proceed.
Let's say i'll prepare my USB device with the MSIHQ Tool 1.17x9 Installer .
Then what should i do, step by step?
I fail to see what is the point of the amiflash, while the AFUD4280 seems to be the bios update.
I've never flashed a bios before, and while i'm confused, i'm also a little scared to do wrong manipulations and mess it all.
    That's why i came here.
THanks a lot for your help.
    Cheers.

First of all: read the link Bas posted. It's pretty clear info and you don't need anything more than that. The forum flasher is the best way to flash your bios.
Second: you don't need any ami-flash tool or what soever. You only need a bios-ROM-file for the usb-flash tool to use. Get the newest bios here: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1552
Don't worry, the platinum and non-platinum boards use the same bios. they're about 99.9% the same boards, except from some tiny differences.
Now, download the bios file and place it on your desktop. Start the forum flash tool and let it prepare an usb stick. If asked, point to the bios file on the desktop and let the tool do it's work. I don't have to explain step-by-step, since the screen info is very clear on what you have to do and when.
After flashing, clear cmos (with AC-power disconnected) and reboot the system. Go into bios, load default/optimized settings and make changes you want. And then you'll be ready to go!!

  • 6758 to Flash BIOS 1.5 or not to Flash BIOS 1.5

I have been reading the board for awhile and have realized that I may have bought a CRAP board.  Nonetheless, would like to keep it running.  I currently have:
    NEO-FIS2R
    2.4C Ghz @ 800 FSB
    4 x 256 OCZ EL Dual DDR PC3700 GOLD (1GB)
    ATI 9800 Radeon Pro
BIOS running with 1.2 and never been flashed.
I am currently unable to overclock anything as when I run CPU-Z it shows the normal values eventhough at boot up time its shows that its overclocked.
I am wondering if I should flash the M/B to 1.5 to resolve my overclock issue and possibly the memory bandwidth issues.  I bought the board with BIOS V1.2 and its a virgin board.  What is the best way to flash the board without getting any corruption and at the same time should I wait for the next BIOS update skipping V1.5 or go to V1.4 then get the next release.
    Thanks

  • Flashing bios + ME ofZ87-G45 Gaming Mainboard from 1.5 to the latest 1.9.

I  have been reading and watching a lot of videos on the subject..including the general threads here.
So my understanding has become ...  do not use  liveupdate 6 (mine can't even tell what I have installed).  M-flash is the official way to flash bios and it works well if you choose uefi + ME.
I want to flash my bios because my USB 3 front ports have always been flaky and hoping for a bit more system stability (4 cpu hardware corrected errors since put together system in march) and in ultra rare case  system will become unresponsive. Plus, will have room to upgrade to new cpu in future.
I did not enable the overclocking in the bios, but it is enabled.  From what I have read ..is it then true that I must disable this before flashing?
I have also downloaded the 1.9 bios for my Z87-G45 Gaming Mainboard and placed it on a USB 2.0 flash drive that must be plugged into a back usb 2.0 port (though mouse and keyboard are in the legacy ports).
My understanding is that I simply have to boot into the bios ...with the usb stick plugged in ..  disable the overclocking and then choose upgrade uefi bios + ME.   choose the file  listed and wait.  When it is flashed, it will reboot and then flash ME.
My question here is .. how will it flash ME?  does the bios file also have the ME information?
And after the bios is successfully updated  and set back to how it was set before the flash ...  the last step, I understand ..is to install the ME driver package ...  I have the ME10  zip of 75 meg ready.
Do I understand this correctly ...  other than needing to know how ME gets flashed from the one bios file (which is E7821IMS.190)?
Is there anything else I need to ask to make this update foolproof?
    TIA for the help )

To make it foolproof follow the below, it will update bios and ME firmware. After flashing ME driver needs to be reinstalled in Windows too.
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive (E7817IMS_660.rar.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows:  http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt90_mb.zip

  • Flashing BIOS without floppy?

Recently, I've flashed my 875P BIOS from 1.7 to 1.8 & am unhappy with the performance from the new BIOS. I would like to reflash it back to 1.7, but my floppy drive is no longer working properly & will not read data correctly from floppy disks. Is there a safe way to flash BIOS without using a floppy disk, such as through Windows? I've looked at LiveUpdate 3, but it only shows the current BIOS 1.8 that I can update from. Replies are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks for the quick reply, DOS. I've figured out another way by putting the three files from LiveUpdate(MSISetup, AMIFlh, IftwInst.Tag) & 1.7 BIOS file together in a folder & flashed in Windows from there by clicking on MSISetup. The three files mentioned are always included during the LiveUpdate download along with a BIOS file for whatever version. Just make sure to remove the BIOS file you don't want & put in the one you do want along with the three files mentioned. Honestly, I held my breath during the flash process, but I'm glad it went okay without a hitch. So, for those who feel comfortable flashing in Windows(or DOS, since you have a choice during the flash process) to whatever BIOS version, this is an easy way of doing it. I don't know if this is good enough for a sticky since I know others are looking for ways of flashing there BIOS. Good luck!  :D

  • Best way to format my 16GB flash drive for Mac and PC transferring large power point files?

best way to format my 16GB flash drive for Mac and PC transferring large power point files?

format flash drive in Exfat for transferring files between Mac and Pc.
    FORMAT TYPES
    FAT32 (File Allocation Table)
Read/Write FAT32 from both native Windows and native Mac OS X.
    Maximum file size: 4GB.
    Maximum volume size: 2TB
You can use this format if you share the drive between Mac OS X and Windows computers and have no files larger than 4GB.
    NTFS (Windows NT File System)
    Read/Write NTFS from native Windows.
Read only NTFS from native Mac OS X
To Read/Write/Format NTFS from Mac OS X, here are some alternatives:
For Mac OS X 10.4 or later (32 or 64-bit), install Paragon (approx $20) (Best Choice for Lion)
Native NTFS support can be enabled in Snow Leopard and Lion, but is not advisable, due to instability.
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support NTFS
    Maximum file size: 16 TB
    Maximum volume size: 256TB
You can use this format if you routinely share a drive with multiple Windows systems.
HFS+ ((((MAC FORMAT)))) (Hierarchical File System, a.k.a. Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Don't use case-sensitive)
    Read/Write HFS+ from native Mac OS X
Required for Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! backups of Mac internal hard drive.
To Read HFS+ (but not Write) from Windows, Install HFSExplorer
    Maximum file size: 8EiB
    Maximum volume size: 8EiB
You can use this format if you only use the drive with Mac OS X, or use it for backups of your Mac OS X internal drive, or if you only share it with one Windows PC (with MacDrive installed on the PC)
    EXFAT (FAT64)
Supported in Mac OS X only in 10.6.5 or later.
Not all Windows versions support exFAT.
    exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table)
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support exFAT
    Maximum file size: 16 EiB
    Maximum volume size: 64 ZiB
You can use this format if it is supported by all computers with which you intend to share the drive.  See "disadvantages" for details.

  • What is the best way to add a blog to a flash site?

I am just about wrapping up the construction of my site and I am left with my last small project--a blog.  I would like the site and the blog to run on the same parent site and to be as uniform as possible.  What would be the best way to do this?  I am also looking for RSS and Facebook "Like" functionality as well.  Some things to consider would be speed, ease of use, etc.
Here is what I was thinking:
    1) I can create the blog in html, but I would like the navigation from within the SWF to be functional as well.  Is there a way to create links in an html doc to navigate to a specific page within a SWF?  I know how to link outside an SWF.  By doing this, I think I could recreate the navigation with XML. If so, I believe I can accomplish my other goals.
    2) The other option I was thinking of would be to create the blog within the SWF itself.  If I were to do this, is there any way to inlcude RSS, within the SWF?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I am still quite new to development so I figured I would get some "best practices" insight prior to starting.
I published the site if it is of any assistance: http://stephenpappasphoto.com/
    Thanks,
    -SP

    1) You can use frame anchors to link to particular labeled frames in a swf.  I've never used them, but it is supposed to work.  You assign the frame label and then designate it to be an Anchor in the Label type drop down in the Properties panel.
    2) RSS is basically just XML by a different name, which Flash can process directly.  Here's a link to a tutorial that might help...

"Messing up cells/rows" could mean quite a few things. For
    example, you
would certainly have trouble trying to pack a 550 x 200 SWF

whose dimensions were 50 x 22. Is that what you mean?

  • What is the best way to create a flash banner that features video?

Hi I have created a html5 video banner but I also need to create a flash banner that will host a video in it
I have created the flash banner but not sure where to start in order to add video to it. I understand the best way is to host the video file on a server but how do I get that video to play within the banner?
    Thanks

You can incorporate an FLVPlayback component that automatically loads the desired video.  You could also make use of the NetStream class instead of having the component.  Google either one to get information on using them.

  • What is the best way to create a Flash site

    Hello Everyone,
I am realtively new to flash. I created the splash page of
our site in flash but 1st off it takes to long to load as it is.
But I would like to create the entire site in Flash. What is the
best way to create a Flash site, and are there tutorials out there
or any really good books, resources, or online classes to learn
Flash well. I understand the basic of flash and have created
    banners, and other flash materials.
    Can anyone help?

For me, as a noob, It's all about creative problem solving.
For lots of stuff, there's no right or wrong solution, but you have
to figure things out on your own. I, too, have built sites from the
ground up, and then rebuilt them even better. It's the only way to
really learn it well. Books, online forums, help docs all sort of
help, but it all comes down to how innovative you can be with
integrating them all into a site that is completely yours.
This might save you loads of headaches: avoid using scenes,
unless you are doing only animation. Keep each of your 'pages' on
their own keyframe, and use 'gotoAndStop' to navigate through them.
This is perhaps the easiest way to create a website quickly.
