Best way to get to a path from a browser dialogue

I want to attach filed to an email
The file is in one of my finder windows
What's the quickest way of attaching?
OK... so the mac's search is awesome - no waoting and the file can be found super quick
But what if the file is called abc.zip and there are 100 other files of the same name elsewhere?
In Windows, I would copy the path from Explorer - then paste whereever needed and the folder opens ready for me to select files
I do this all the time - for just about every application where I need to open a file
On Mac, getting the path takes tooo long! (OK... we're talking about seconds... but seconds to a keyboard freak is a long time!)
I'm hoping the answer will help me figure out how to open files from other applications in a similar fashion - just by pasting the path

If you enable the path bar in Finder (View->Enable Path Bar) the path for the file or folder will be displayed at the bottom of the finder window.
Any or all if it is live and can be selected and dragged. So if you want the whole path drag from the end, if you want only part of the path drag from there.
You can also click on any prt o it to open that in Finder.

First, if you haven't updated to iTunes 10.5, please update now as you will need it for the iPhone 4S and iOS 5.
Once you're done installing iTunes 10.5, open it. Connect your iPhone to iTunes using the USB cable. Once your iPhone pops up right click on it. For example: an iPhone will appear and it will say "Ryan's iPhone."
Right click on it and select "Backup" from the dropdown menu. It will start backing up. This should backup your notes.
Please tell me if you have any problems with backing up.
Once you backup and get your iPhone 4S, you must follow these steps. If you don't follow these steps, you will not be able to get your notes on your new iPhone 4S.
Open up iTunes again then right click on your device (iPhone 4S). Once you do you will see a dropdown menu. It will say "Restore from Backup..." Select this and it'll ask for a backup, select it from the dropdown menu. For example "Ryan's iPhone - October 12, 2011." Pick that and it will restore to your backup. Do this when you get your iPhone 4S so you will not lose anything. Even though you're restoring, you're getting back, since you're getting the previous settings, notes, contacts, mail and other settings from your old iPhone. You'll still have Siri though! So, restore when you first get it. Also frequently backup your device, as it will be worth it. You can restore from a backup if something goes wrong or save your data for a future update.
Once you do that, you should have your notes on your new iPhone 4S and iOS 5.

What is the best way to get all my photos from my G4 to my iMac.

The export feature does not grab the originals and does not export the movie clips. Yet I don't want to just paste the old library folder to my new machine because the old library had gotten corrupted at one time and I don't want to risk that.

Well first of all I did have a corrupt library on my G4. I followed instructions that someone gave me and created a new library and it's performing OK although some of the dates are not correct.
Don't worry about the dates you can correct them in iPhoto 08.
I still have the corrupted library on my G4's hard drive. I left it there in case I did not get all of my 5500 pics.
But did you get all the pics? That's really a Yes or No question. If it's Yes, then we can rule this library out of the confusion.
So I would like to possibly repair the old one and add the pics from the new library to it that I've taken since a year ago.
Huh? You have a working new library with (we hope) all the pics from the damaged one and yet you want to go backwards to the old one, repair it and then add the pics you've taken since? Is there a reason you want to do this?
I also bought a imac 24 intel and I wanted to get all my pics onto it without bringing any corruptions with the pics.
Okay, but you have a good working library with all the old pics and the new pics. So move that to the new machine. I don't understand the issue?
So there is a good bit going on. It's kind of confusing what with upgrading and exporting and importing and backing up and duplicates etc. It would not be that hard if I had 500 pics from a year or 2.
Okay, well here's a tip. Forget about updating the g4, either iPhoto or the operating System. Just focus on getting all your photos into the new machine. Then worry about that.

If you sync your bookmarks then the one you want will be on your iPhone. If you don't sync your bookmarks I would imagine you would have to enter it in the web browser on your phone and then add it to your bookmarks right on the phone.
I don't know about the HTML, but quite frequently if you click on a phone number on a web page, the phone will ask you if you if you want to call it. If you do, then you can add it to your contacts.

I have just completed this task... It took many attempts to get the two computers talking (windows xp pro, and new Imac g5). When I finally got them to talk to each other, the file transfer was brutallly slow. I used the ether-net cable to connect the two machines directly. The system was not very stable and crashed continuously. I would get one or two songs transferred and then the mac would lock up and require a restart (command option esc), via force quit of finder. Relaunch would not work, and I had to shut the machine off with the on off switch each time.
Today I finally burned the tunes on 2 CDs and simply dumped them into the music file. The PC burns a full ( ~ 800 megs) in about 10 minutes. Mac can down load the CD in ~ 6 minutes. This adds up to less than 20 minutes. Using the direct connection (indicated 100 Mbts/sec on the PC) the process was pathetically slow (hours restarting and horsing around).
One of my goals was to get the machines talking to each other, having accomplished this, it think it is not a worthwhile effort.

I don't recommend you send the iMac in a checked bag. Might get damaged.
Check the airlines website for carry on guidelines.
Or, if you have the original box that the iMac came in, if you have someone who can pick up the iMac for you, send it ahead Fed Ex and insure the package.
Just make sure the display is covered to protect it. A blanket perhaps.

Technically, they will import off your flash drive....if it's one of the models that work (maybe 50% do) and if they meet the very rigid naming convention that the iPad insists on.
It's far easier to use a computer then either sync them on via iTunes, e-mail them to yourself or upload them to something like dropox, then download them onto your device.

There is a direct option in Organizer which lets you import from iPhoto. This is under Import dropdown menu in left panel.
If you are importing from iPhoto'09, your Tags, Albums Events, captions, star rating would also get imported apart from your media. This works differently for iPhoto'011 where you can get only the media to the Organizer,
Just a couple of things to know:
1. If in iPhoto preferences, you have chosen to create copies of your photos in iPhoto library and your library hence refers to the media store inside the library package, then on importing from iPhoto, Organizer would create copies of all those media under your pictures folder. That means, it would not corrupt your iPhoto package or modify it in any way.
2. However, if in iPhoto, you are organizing by using references to original location on your Hard drive i.e. you are not creating copies of media in iPhoto library then on importing from iPhoto to Organizer, the Organizer would also use the same references and would not create copies of the media.

I'm getting a used Powerbook G4 and have an iBook G4 what is the best way to get everything(software, settings, OS, etc [iBook has Tiger, powerbook will have Panther]) over to the PowerBook?

Even though your new PB may be used, you can use the
Setup Assistant in 10.3.x (Migration Assistant in
10.4.x, located in the /Applications/Utilities
folder) that would normally start up when you first
boot up a brand new computer.
You want to connect the two computers together with a
FireWire 400 cable, and boot the iBook with the "T"
key held down so it starts up in FireWire Disk mode.
The Assistant will do the rest/is self explanatory.
