Best way to image or backup my MBP (inclding Boot Camp partition?

What is the best way to create a complete image or best backup of my MBP hard drive? FWIW this is a Boot Camp partitioned HD and my objective is to have an easy way to recreate my current HD setup, in case of failure.
My plan would be to create this on an external FW HD.

Hi, just take a look to superduper...I use it in a powermac g5 and in a macbook pro without problems...watch out that CCC is not universal binary in the case you have a new mac.

Backup to TImeCapsule including Boot Camp partition

I used Boot Camp to install Windows 7 Professional on my new MacBook Air, and have now got Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac working OK with a Windows Virtual Machine. But I am reluctant to remove the Boot Camp partition. Now I have got TIme Capsule/Time Machine working OK for automatic backups - but the BootCamp/Windows stuff is not being backed up. Can anyone tell me how to include the Boot Camp partition and all my Windows-based work in the automatic backup 'of the entire machine' (the reason I bought a Time Capsule) to Time Capsule? It seems that only the MAC side of the machine is being backed up hourly by Time Machine. Can't find anything in Knowledge Base or Help about this. Thanks!

No. But you can create a +disk image+ on it, and back up the Windoze side to it, if you can find an app that will work. For information on 3rd-party utilities to use with BootCamp, try the Boot Camp forum. For information on Time Machine, try the +Snow Leopard > Time Machine+ forum. Late 2013 MBP/Fusion/Boot Camp partition w/Windows XP (!), can I get Bluetooth working or should I give up?

Hello and please bear with the length of this post. I had an old MacBook Pro (2007 Santa Rosa) that ran Windows XP in a Boot Camp partition just fine. One thing Windows has that the Mac doesn't is a free OBD2 app that lets me communicate with a Bluetooth OBD2 scanner to reset my check engine light and read the codes. This scanner uses Bluetooth.
A few months ago by a stroke of good luck I got a new Retina MacBook Pro. Windows XP will not install on it, only Win 7 & 8 (I don't have the install disks anymore anyway). I did not want to buy a new Windows just to run this one program (the only Windows app I really need). I thought I could possibly run my old Win XP Boot Camp partition (now in an external USB3 case) under Fusion, and it turns out that I can indeed do this. However I can not get Bluetooth to work – Win XP, under Fusion, does not see any Bluetooth hardware. I got some help on the Fusion forum – I was told to uncheck the Share Bluetooth devices with the virtual machine box and check the Apple Bluetooth USB Host Controller box to connect Bluetooth to the virtual machine. WIn XP, under Fusion, does not seem to see any Bluetooth hardware.
My question is, do the Boot Camp drivers originally installed when I first used Win XP on my old Santa Rosa MBP have any role here? I was thinking I might have to update those drivers since I'm on a new Retina MBP, but the update notes specifically say the newer drivers are for Windows 7 and 8. I haven't tried to install them yet – maybe they'll even refuse to install, I don't know.
If I'm truly wasting my time trying to get this to work I'll fork over the $40 for the Mac OBD2 software, although I really only need it for a "single use" (trying to pass a state inspection, lol!). TIA for any help!

After a little more investigation I've decided to give up this quest and pay the $40 for the Mac software.

I was using bootcamp assistant to install windows 7 via flash drive, i followed the steps, the Windows installation image was installed successfully and the boot camp partition was made andy mac restarted then i got this message "no bootable device insert

"..no bootable device insert boot disk and press any key", i restarted my mac and held options and managed to log in to my OS x again but my windows wasn't installed and when i held options while my mac was starting the usb flash drive wasn't there, what should i do? Also can i restore my usb flash drive to use it as a regular flash drive again?

Yep, I did get this running. Not in a normal way (meaning the easy way). What I did, is that I just created the BOOTCAMP partition in OS X. Just let it format and create the partition where you would install BOOTCAMP.
After that I discovered that via a ISO program (WinClone) you can directly restore a previously created OS X boot image to your current computer. So, I installed a blank Windows 7 to my macbook pro, didint install any drivers and just let it work up then. Then I went back to os X (in macbook pro) and made a bootimage for the BOOTCAMP partition. After that I saved it to my external harddrive and wired it to my iMac. In iMac I just downloaded the same boot-image program and restored the bootimage that I made in Macbook Pro to iMac. After that I made an restart and the bootcamp section with windows worked well with my iMac. Install the bootcamp soft and you can do everything and everything works. FYI, you get the windows working via those steps, BUT if you either delete or do anything to make your bootcamp partition unworkable then you will have to repeat those steps again. But it´s fast non-the-less, so it shouldn´t be a problem for you.

Backup restore Boot Camp partitions by Disk Utilities

Hello,
I am new to MAC world and need to know about the backup & restore procedures of Boot Camp Partitions;
I want to make a disk image of my FAT32 Partition like Acronis Ture Image or similars. ( in case of any problem i would able to restore my system without waisting time in reinstalling windows and other software programs etc on both MAC OS & Windows sides.)
please guide me if it is possible by using Mac DISK UTILITIES or by some other programs.
My Curent MAC Config are;

I want to upgrade my Windows XP partition to Windows 7. Before I do, though, I want to make a complete image backup of the partition, so if anything gets terribly screwed up, I can restore from the image and be right back where I started.
How can I make an image backup of my Boot Camp partition, and then restore it? Do I use Mac OS X Disk Utility for this?

What is best way to make disk backup of CS5 downloaded installation?

We purchased the downloadable version of the CS5 Production Premium installer rather than waiting 2 weeks to receive it in box form.
What do you suggest is the best way to make a backup of the downloaded installers, which total about 13.8 gigs? I was thinking of putting the main one on a dual layer DVD-R but the biggest file is 9.23 gb's, nearly a gig over the data limit for dual layer disks. Is it possible to use Toast to split a disk image over multiple files or use Apple Disk Utility to compress the .dmg even further to fit? Or perhaps is the easiest way to just copy it over to a USB thumb drive?
I know Adobe allows you to re-download the software whenever needed, but it would be more handy for us to have a backup here rather than wait for another really long download...

You can buy a set of backup disks from Adobe for a nominal fee. You might want to give them a call and ask about it.
Otherwise, just back it all up to an external drive.

Mac pro boot camp partition cloned to MBP?

i have a 200 GB mac pro boot camp partition with windows 7 on it and between setting it up and getting all my software customized it has been like doing time in a soviet gulag.
if i create a 200 GB partition on my MBP can i clone this from one machine to another?
it would save me a heck of a lot of time and aggravation

The drivers are not on a Mac OS X 10.4 CD or DVD. They are on the Mac OS X 10.5 DVD.

Daily Backup for Boot Camp partition

I'm looking for a Windows software to perform daily incremental backups from my Boot Camp partition to an external USB drive. It should also be possible to restore the COMPLETE Boot Camp partition from that backup in case of a hard drive failure. (It's NOT necessary that various versions of files are kept around-the-clock like Time Machine does. It's also not necessary that the backup itself is bootable.)
I've tried Genie TimelIne, but unfortunately it wasn't able to manage a complete restore. The taskbar was missing, no applications were installed (only present), settings were missing after the restore..., so I had to manually install nearly everything.
I've heard "Macrium Reflect" should be better. Is this true or does anyone have another good tip?
BTW I'm not looking for a solution to backup from the Boot Camp partition to the OS X partition and I don't want to create a complete clone every day.

Well, Anyone elses personal experience won't mean much to you unless they have the same setup as you, so asking others for personal experience is as much of a crap shoot for you as doing it yourself. I went through lots of testing several years ago on my first MacBook Pro, but almost none of that testing is valid for my current machine. With the variations in machines, and machine configurations, what works for someone else might not work for you, and what might work for you might not work for someone else. I learned this when I was testing Colnexzilla as a possible backup/cloning tool. It worked fine on my MacBook Pro, but wouldn't work properly for a number of other users.

I agree that what you are asking for seems rather confusing. You talk about backing up your data on your Windows partition, and you talk about performing incremental backups. The WIndows 7 Data backup utility it perfect for tasks like that. If you use the Windows 7 data backup and perform incremental backups, you will have a backiup of all your data from the Windows partition. Isn't that want you want? There are few, if any backup tools that will run runder native Windows on your Boot Camp partition that will make an image file backup that can do incremental backups, and also allow you to restore to a bootable partition. I beleive that the Paragon software is one of the very few that can do this. I have tried and successfully made backupns and restores from backup disk images using custom boot drives for CloneZilla, and the Paragon Drive Backup tool. I don't believe that CloneZilla will do inremental backups, and I'm not sure about the Paragon software as I stopped using Boot Camp about 1.5 years ago when I upgraded to my current MacBook Pro. Now with this system, I don't run native Windows, I only run it virtualized using Parallels Desktop and VMWare Fusion. For both of those, I get a full system backup with each MacOS backup I take, since the Windows File System is virtualized and stored entirely in files on my MacOS partition.

Upgrading MBP HD with a boot camp partition

I'm upgrading the HD in my late-2006 MBP. It currently has a Boot Camp partition running WinXP and between the two partitions, I've run out of room. I've upgraded Mac HDs before and know about Carbon Copy Cloner, but I am not sure how to migrate both partitions. Is there a software tool that will clone both partitions at once? If not, how do I go about doing this?

I don't know if I want to go the virtualization route.
Both VMware Fusion and Parallels offer a free 30-day trial, in case you want to check it out, and VirtualBox is free.

You can backup Bootcamp Windows partition with the free WinClone to another drive (not TimeMachine)

Leopard Disk Utility nor Time Machine image seem to be able to produce a restorable image of the Boot Camp partition. Is this facility available in Leopard? In a computer lab environment we need to be able to readily restore both Mac and Windows partitions.

Can i "copy" a 200 GB boot camp partition from Mac Pro to MBP?

i spent a lot of time working with virtual machines and i have decided i simply have to increase the size of my mac pro HD and put a boot camp partition in it.
can i COPY a 200 GB windows 7 boot camp partition from my 1 TB Mac Pro drive to a 200 GB partition on my MBP that will have a 500 GB drive?
this would let me focus on doing a full install and full setup on the Mac Pro and just copy this over to the MBP (when i get the new drive) saving me a ton o time.

Any way to reduce the size of Boot Camp partition?

I made my Boot Camp partition way big and now I'd like to smallify it by about half, down to 60G or so (it's 130G now). Is there any EASY way to do this?

In Vista (Ultimate in my case), RightClick My Computer -> Manage: select Disk Management. In Vista you can shrink your (C:) Boot Camp partition which leaves OS intact but allows another install to new (D:) (extended) volume created within space. In XP, I think same can be done with Diskpart.exe which is in \System32. As I have, you can install another Windows OS to the new partition.
I can't see data from Leopard OS for the extension made, though I can see Ntfs files and copy/paste from original Windows (C:) volume bootcamp set up. I do not know if formatting the new split to Fat 32 would make it a share space for Leopard.
