Best way to increase volume by steps

Hello,
I have a freaky problem with my mobile phone, a k800i and the wake up alarm: I made an analysis with Adobe Audition 3 with a simple tone, and I saw that the alarm lasts 60 seconds no matter how long is the mp3 I use to wake me up. You can look at the attached file here.
In fact, the tone starts with 0 db, increasing each 1.79 seconds by 2.1 db, in 17 steps and then the db level remains the same until the sound stops. The result is that at first, I cannot hear the first seconds for the selected mp3, and at the final seconds the volume is too high.
So i decided to use Audition to prepare some of the best 60 seconds for my favourite songs (I said it was very-very freak).
But of course, I don't want to do it manually for every file and every step as I would look like a perfect dumb , isn't it ? haha !
Do you know some procedure to automate this ?
You could think like "hey, this dude has lots of time to waste", but believe me, I don't. This is like an odd "scape from the real world" trial...
Thanks in advance !
Roger

Open and edit the file you want.
In Edit View, go to Effects>Amplitude and Compression>Envelope.
Create a volume envelope for the length you want.
Apply it to your waveform.
When you are happy with the settings of the envelope, save that volume envelope as a preset.
Simply apply the preset to every waveform you want.

And what is the exact model of MBP that you have?
Normally, assuming your Mac supports more than 4 GBs, the best way is to buy the specific RAM required for your machine to replace the RAM that is now installed. But we can't tell you that without knowing what model you have.
Open System Profiler in the Utilities folder and report what you find displayed for the Model Identifier.

  • Best way to increase image size for print

I have a jpeg of an image that I will have to increase roughly 140% for a final print size of 16"x20". I am creating the final design in InDesign, but am editing the image in Photoshop first. My question is what's the best way to increase the size of the jpeg first in Photoshop (I assume) so that when I bring it into InDesign it is maximized in terms of resolution but not so large that the file size prohibitive for sending.
I've already cropped the image, but haven't adjusted any of the sizes. The dimensions are currently: 3233 pixels x 2586 pixels, and 10.777 in x 8.62 in at 300 pixels per inch.
Do I bring it into InDesign this way or increase the document size first in Photoshop? I assume the latter.
If I increase the size in Photoshop, I assume I should resample the image. If I do, that increases the pixel dimensions and file size to over 82.4M. Is there a way to keep the 300 ppi resolution while reducing the file size?

Photoshop CC now has Preserve Details as well as Bicubic smoother for enlargements.
140% is not asking much for enlargements. Photoshop may suffice.
You mention 300 ppi. Is it  really necessary? In the days of offset presses, that was the standard, but what is it for a photo inkjet or the printer you use? You may not need 300.
Personally when I enlarge, I like Photozoom Pro. I have it on my Mac and PC and find it better than stock enlargement in Photoshop. Of course it's $99-$199 depending if it's on sale.
Here's a bit more about digital enlargement in this Sydney Morning Herald article
    http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/cameras/how-to-enlarge-images-without-pixelation-201306 26-2ovts.html
Of course Photoshop is for preparing photos for print and the web, so you would want to finish your photos there before moving them to InDesign.
Trevor Dennis, Noel Carboni and many other professionals can give better answers on the subject of enlargement and printing so I hope they will post advice as well.
I can't answer the last one honestly, I've never prepared prints for room exhibit, so I can't say what works best.
Good luck. I hope you can get it sorted out.

    Done. Thank you, Allan.
The sparse image article you sent a link to needs a little updating (or there's some variability in prompts (no password was required) with my OS and/or Disk Utility version), but it worked.
Phew! It would have been much more time consuming to use Time Machine to recover all my photos after repartitioning the drive.

ive looked around and cant find much on this.
    any insight would be apprciated:)

Absolutely - I've seen plenty of those, where the top and bottom are cut off - in a way, I suppose it doesn't really matter if the music only has one dynamic anyway (FULL ON, MAN!!!).
I've been getting in to more 'finalising' aspects recently and I noticed that on one particular track I'd kept the adaptive limiter on the main out as I was mixing and ended up putting up the faders a bit too far without really noticing that some bad distortion was being introduced by the limiter being pushed too far. There's always a balance somewhere with the limiter settings, but I don't want to clip on either that plugin or any others that may matter and definitely not on the main out.
    I think.....

  • Satellite U405 - What is the best way to increases battery life

    Hi everyone!
I've been looking for this quite a bit and all I could find are conflicting answers and some confusing instructions... :)
Even the PDF file for my U405 has some conflicting tips (is it recommended to fully discharge it or not?)
Let's say that I don't want to remove it and store it with a 40% charge in a low temperature location (?) because I also want to trust it as a UPS (power failures are common where I stay).
So, in short, what is the best way to prolong my battery life to its maximum? Should I fully discharge it once a month or only half way through? Should it never be fully charged or that's actually a good thing?
Thanks in advance for any wisdom anyone can offer on this!
    David

The best way would be indeed to put it out of the notebook, but you already said, you won't do this.
So, I would say to fully unload the battery once in a while and load it to a maximum.
This is all I can tell you right now, but don't know how much this will increase the battery's life.

  • Best way to increase root and home part sizes

Just want to check what means to increase size of root and home. Here's the drive with them now:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    (xp) /dev/sdc1 * 1 7649 61440561 7 HPFS/NTFS
    /dev/sdc2 7650 8865 9767520 83 Linux (root)
    /dev/sdc3 8866 12512 29294527+ 83 Linux (home)
    /dev/sdc4 12513 60801 387881392+ 5 Extended
    /dev/sdc5 12513 12998 3903763+ 83 Linux (swap)
    /dev/sdc6 12999 60801 383977566 83 Linux (stuff)
Everything is backed up and I have other drives to move the /dev/sdc6 over onto temporarily. I have burned GParted LiveCD but I have never used it, would I boot into it and basically see GParted and be able to delete/edit/etc. my partitions?
Now here's where I get a bit confused: Will I have to delete root and/or home to increase their sizes? If so, what is the right way to copy root back over when I am done the partitioning? I have never copied a root back over onto the system. If I use something as simple as cp -pr, then from where would I do it? Would it be some console I can get into from the Arch LiveCD or something?
    Thanks for your help!

    jbromley wrote:
If you move the sdc6 partition off of this drive to make space available, then gparted should be able to move and resize the remaining partitions to take advantage of the remaining space. This means that you shouldn't have to copy over your root and home partitions after the resize. Of course, you'll want backups of these partitions just in case.
You second questions is good just for general knowledge. As mentioned above, you shouldn't have to do this. If you do need to copy over root/home the best way is to use some LiveCD to boot your machine. System Rescue CD and grml are two good rescue/admin type CDs, but I'll bet you can get to a console using the gparted live CD. Once your system is booted with some live CD,  mount your root/home partitions and your backup copy and copy over the root/home partitions from your backup. Something as simple as cp -pr should work here. Once you're done copying, unmount the drives and reboot. When you reboot after resizing a partition you'll probably have to run fsck, but it shouldn't be a problem.
It's all pretty straightforward. Note that resizing big partitions might take a long time. Oh yeah, be sure to back up your partitions before doing any of this.
jbromley, you give quality answers. Furthermore, you could use your Arch install cd as the "rescue" disk. It has all the tools you need to mount your partitions and copy files. But you shouldn't have to do that if gparted works.

  • What is the best way to increase the size of a "full" Xserve raid?

    Hi,
    our Xserve raid consists of 2 x 7 x 350GB disks.
These are arranged in 2 volumes (one per controller), RAID 0+1, 3 disks striped, then mirrored, and such are using 6 of the 7 disks per controller. 1 disk per controller is configured as a hot spare.
During time both volumes have filled up and now there only are 100GB left on every volume and we need more space
Is there a way to hot replace 350GB disks by 750GB disks?
Or is the only way to copy data off, replace disks, and restore data?
I would guess, that I can replace one disk with a 750GB disk, but only 250GB of it will be used. If I then would wait for reconstruction of that new part, and then replace its counterpart? Would only the first 350GB be reconstructed and the 400GB be lost, or would the raid recognize the free space and allow to add it to the stripes and mirrors?
    Cheers,
    Martin

A disks in the array need to be the same size, so your guess is correct - if you replace a disk with a larger disk, the additional space will be lost.
As a result there's no trivial way of doing this.
Copying off the data, reformatting and restoring the data is the best way to go.
If that's not possible, you have one small chance thanks to how you've currently configured the arrays as 0+1.
You could break the mirror on controller 1- that would give you two logical arrays of three disks each. You could then take the data off the 0+1 array on the second controller and put it on the second half of the first controller, leaving the second controller's volumes spare.
Then destroy both volumes on the second controller and rebuild it as a RAID 5 volume. If you want to retain a hot-spare, this will equate to a 6-disk RAID 5, or about 1.8TB
Now you move the data from the two RAID 0 arrays on controller 1 onto the RAID 5 array on controller 2 and repeat the process to rebuild the 6 disks into a single RAID 5 volume. You can then redistribute the files as you like.
Of course, during this process you'll be running with lower (read: no) redundancy, so you had better hope a disk doesn't fail in the process.
A 6 disk RAID 5 is going to offer about the same performance and redundancy as the two mirrored 3-disk RAID 0 arrays (more performance if those RAID 0 arrays are full), with the advantage that RAID 5 isn't so wasteful of disk space (you lose have your total space to the mirror as opposed to one disks-worth of data to parity in RAID 5).
Either way, back the data up first.

  • What is the best way to increase my battery's lifetime?

    Hi everyone,
I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch: 2.53GHz, this is my . And I can surely say....it is a million times better than PC...In fact, now I really realized that PC *****...I loved my mac since the first time a saw it...
Well here goes my question: I use my notebook almost all day long. Asking for tips on how I should use my battery in a way to increase its lifetime for a salesman on a mac's strore he said that the best way to do this is by recharging my battery when its reach nearly 25% and then stop recharging in more or less 97% and i've been doing it since then. He said to me that keep my notebook with the power cord on all the day it's not a good idea. What should I do?Am I doing right?
    Thanks

Fine to run on AC with the battery charged much of the time, just not all the time (i.e. not for days/weeks). Best to run on battery for an hour or two per day, totaling 1-2 cycles per week.

  • Alternative ways of increasing volume in Nokia E71

I am having an issue with the volum up button to the side (the volum down works just fine). Is there and alterantive way to increase the phones volume (when playing music). I cant seem to find the setting to do that.

    @hithere2233
there is no in built settings available to assign any different key to volum up key
so i suggest you to send your phone for repair
for temporary solution there is an app called "magic key" using that you can assign different key to that key
using this two tutorials you can do that

  • Best way to increase audio level

I am thinking of two ways to increase audio level on a FCE project. One is to copy the audio track and duplicate it on an another audio track. The other is to increase the level of the existing audio track (modify>levels . . . ). Which do you folks out there think is best? Thanks in advance!

    Thanks again Tom.
I am just putting together a classroom video. I used four cameras. I edited it all down, and moved everything to one video track. I chose the best audio track and am using that. So I'll probably just go with relative. And it appears I don't really have to choose the audio track when adjust level, as there is only one (well, two, but it is a stereo pair). I just go to modify>levels . . . and then move the slider over a bit, and that seems to modify the levels fine without any track selected.

  • Best way to increase size

    Hi,
I had a 3 fold menu 8 1/2 x 11 (3 column 1 page) ID CS4 INDD.  The individual I was doing it for said to try to see what it is like on a Tabloid (11 x 17?).
What is the best way to bring in each of the three 8 1/2 x 11 INDD colums into the 11 x 17 INDD columns?
    thanks
    Bob

Well that clears that up.  Looks like I copy/paste the 8 1/2 x 11 panel into the 11/17 INDD and then move each item over to the 11x17 panel(s) and resize, reposition as necessary.
I guess I can make a Paragraph style for the new size eventhough I have found out that Paragraph styles and Object styles are the most frustrating functionaliaty I have had to learn (and still having problems with it regardless of the advice I have been getting).  For instance, when do I use a paragraph style by selecting text with drop shadow and when do I use a object style that has the ability to create a drop shadow (and other things paragraph styles cannot do)?
I am just having the Devil's own time figuring out when it is going to work correctly as opposed to doing the opposite of what I want (for instance, instead of increasing the point value and changing it to red with a drop shadow, the style reduces the point and no drop shadow) and yet, on other paragraphs it works.
I will shoot the Adobe Head Designer responsible for Paragraph styles and Object styles if I ever meet him.  I would also give my first born (and money) to anyone who has developed a drop dead, idiot proof style Add in!
Anyway, thanks for the advise so now I will go copy paste, move and resize, reposition and see if I can make a Paragraph or Object style (don[t know which one I should make), to make the reformating easier.
    Bob
