Best way to load music on the Ipod?

what is the best way to do this?

That really depends on the type of iPod you have and the size of the library. I prefer having iTunes do the work so I prefer to sync things automatically. Since my library is smaller than the iPod I use the option "Sync Music - All songs and playlists".
When your iPod is smaller than your iTunes library you can still sync automatically using the setting 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' which I think is a better way to update an iPod that is smaller than the iTunes library. Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync".
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preference tabs.
Connect your iPod to your computer and when it appears in the Source list click on it to show the preference tabs in the main pane. Choose one of the following options and click "Apply".
1) Sync Music - All songs and Playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method. You'll find this in the Music Tab.
2) Sync Music - Selected playlists. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer. You'll find this in the Music Tab.
3) Manually manage music and videos. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod. You'll find this in the Summary Tab.

  • Is there a way of copying music from the ipod

my pc got wiped so i need a way of copying music from my ipod to itunes is there a way?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Is there a way to load music to my ipod from purchases from Realplayer, etc

    Hi.
Let me start off by saying I am a computer idiot. It took me 20 minutes to figure out how/where to post my question.
I apologize if I ended up posting in the wrong place and I apologize in advance for my babble.
    Here is my question(s).
    I have a Ipod60.
I have managed to upload songs that I had accummulated over the years that are in my music library.
Unfortuantely, I seem to be having a problem with 3 things.
    1) is a audio clip my cousin sent me. The clip is in .wav.
I can add it to my liabray. I can play it on the computer when in Itunes. I can see it on my ipod. HOWEVER, when I try to play the song on my ipod, the title appears on the screen but it immediately jumps to the next song. How do I get it to play on the ipod?
    2) I purchase a song from the Realplayer store because I couldnt find the song on Itunes. They said that it was compatible with my Ipod. Unfortunatley, Itunes will not let me add or import the song.
    What am I doing wrong?
3)I have one song that is a mp3 extension that will not let me upload it to the ipod. Again, I can add it to my library, but it will not save onto the ipod.
I tried to look at the various "help" sections. They say something about programing the darn thing to manual additions/updates but that doesnt seem to work.
    Am I doing something wrong?
If anyone has any suggestions or knows of instructions that are in simple /"for dummies" terminology, I would greatly appreciate it.
I also have a question about why I can't upload varios videos that I have...but that is another battle.
Thanks in advance and once again, I apologize if I am posting in the wrong place or babbled.
      Windows XP

Once again, thank you both for taking the time to answer.
Camoracer - thank you for the suggestions on the transfer programs. I will look into them, once my 1 semi working brain cells stops hurting from this little technical puzzle.
I quickly check Videora out and it seems to be able to convert other formats TO IPOD. It doesnt seem to go the other way. Are there others that allow for that or is it impossible to copy IPOD "stuff" into other formats?
Is there a "silver bullet" of a program that works on most types video & audio (.mp3, m4p, mp4, avi, .flv, .mov. etc) ?
ED2345 - thank you for trying to make me feel better by saying that "it is a common mistake". It doesnt make me feel as stupid as I feared...but I did warn you that I am a moron when it comes to this stuff. I just thought that by changing the extension from (for example) .mp3 to .avi or .wmv was enough....heck most of the time it seems to work.
Anyway, I tried to do what you suggested. But before I click and change anything on my settings I want to make sure I THINK I am doing what you said.
I go into Itunes and get into Importing and I see the following
ON CD INSERT: ask to import CD
    IMPORT USING: AAC ENCODER
    SETTING: HIGH QUALITY (128 kbps)
(then in a little box under it is says:DETAILS
    64 kbps (mono)128 kbps(stereo)optimized for MMX/SSE2
then under that box it has a few bullit points (* = lines that are "checked off" & activated:
    * Play songs while inporting or converting
    * automatically retrieve CD track names from internet
    * create file names with track numbers
    and
use error correction when reading audio cd's
    Now
all that said, where to I make sure the preference is set to mp3 at 160 kb/s.??
Do I change to MP3 in the IMPORT USER by clicking on the drop down and changing to MP3 ENCODER?
Do I change the 160kbs by clicking on settings => custom=> and then change the STERO BIT RATE??
Knowing me, I will click on the wrong thing and cause my computer to self destruct.
Once again, thank you both for your time.

  • Best way to share music throughout the house?

    Hello,
I currently have all of my music on a windows 7 desktop using ITunes.  I have various other windows PC's, along with an IMac, Macbook, Macbook PRO, and home theater system that I would like my music to be accessible on via home network.  (I have wireless as well as wired networking available everywhere if it matters).
My question is, what is the best way for me to be able to share my music across all of my gadgets, without having to purchase any extra things.  I have too many computers and gadgets already, and I feel I should be able to make this all work together without extra equipment, but its too daunting to me.
Can someone shed some light on this for me?

Homesharing will do that for you

  • Looking for the best way to load data to the appended ODS

    Hi all,
I appended ODS with some new infoobjects.
if there is a way to load data only to these datafields without all data deleting and then all data reloading?
    thnx

    Hi Andrius,
If your ODS is set to be overwritten AND the newly appended IOs are not key fields then a full upload without data deletion will works. Because old entries will be overwritten by new ones which have values for the appended IOs.
On the other hand, if your ODS additive then from my point of view you need to remove all data and then reload again. Or else key figures would be doubled after a full upload.

  • Trying to install iwork '09 from dvd on new imac with no dvd drive.....iwork is brand new (bought off ebay) in unopened box....I have at my disposal an older imac with dvd drive and a 16GB thumb drive...what is best way to load iwork on the new imac?

bought my mom a new imac this xmas...didn't realize it has no dvd drive....just picked up a new unopened version of iwork '09 for her to use off of ebay....need to get it loaded on the new dvddriveless imac......I have an imac at my house with a drive and a thumb drive i could bring over to her house if I could somehow burn an image of the iwork dvd on the thumb drive...is this possible?  is there a better solution other than buying an external dvd drive?

First use Disk Utilty to make a disk image of the iWork disc on your iMac. Then there are two easy ways to install on your mothers new iMac. One is to copy to your USB thumb drive, visit your mother and install from the thumb drive. The other is to use a free upload and download service like www.wetransfer.com. Upload the .dmg disk image via www.wetransfer.com, then your mother downloads and installs. After installation you'll need to update iWork for Mountain Lion compatibility.

  • What's The Best Way to Load a Replacement iPod Touch?

I just received a replacement iPod Touch 3G for my daughter. Her iTunes library for the Touch that we returned to Apple is on her MacBook Pro. What is the best way to load the new Touch? She plans on using the same name for it. Should I restore from a previous backup or just plug it in and let in sync? Do I need to set anything on iTunes for disk management?
    Thank you,
    Bruce

If she wants it like her old one the previous backup, if there is anything she wants to change though, now would be a perfect time to just resync it and start over. It really depends on what she wants.

  • Is there a way to import music from my ipod to the computer?

is there a way to import music from my ipod to the camputer?
I have music from all over the world and i want to import all of it to my computer..

Sorry for insulting Apple. This whole thing has me frustrated. You would think that this is an easy thing...which it is after downloading the third party software and all.
I am just a bit edgy after talking to 3 customer support folks for almost 2 hours, who I could barely understand and then having them just tell me to download the files again. 3500+ songs...jumping out the window was looking more pleasant (jk). Now I have to explain to the wife why the phone is busted in-two...lol.
Anyway, I was able to get hooked up with some software and it seems to be downloading fine. I am using iPodCopy. Thanks for the nudge in the right direction and putting up with a bit of attitude. I am sure they have their reasons for not making this an easier operation.

  • Is there a way to get music from your iPod onto the computer?

I recieved most of the music that is currently on my iPod from my cousin, but if i want to add some of MY music to the iPod then i have to erase all of her music off of it! Is there a way to save the music that is already on there and then put it back on the iPod once it has been erased?

First of all try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

  • I had to reformat my desktop pc and lost all my music. Is there any way to transfer the music from the ipod to the pc?

I lost the music on my pc when I had to reformat the disk.  Is there any way to transfer the music from the Ipod to the pc?  I am told that if I try to sync the music that it will erase all the music on my Ipod.

    Transfer iTunes purchases by:

Transfer other music by using a third-party programlike one of those discussed here:

  • TS1456 My 4th Gen iPod Nano isn't displaying a "Use iTunes to restore" message, but iTunes is displaying a restore message when I connect it. I have original music that I can't back up on my iPod. Is there any way that I can fix the iPod without restoring

It's not designed to work like this. When you sync, the iPod stores some information that basically says 'this iPod belongs to computer xyz'. Apple did this to prevent copyright issues (syncing someone else's music).
If you really want to do this, you'll have to at least tie both iTunes installations to the same account. Maybe have them sync with each other.

  • HT1364 I just bought a new PC and now have ample space on my C drive to house my music Library which is currenlty installed on a external drive.  What is the best way to install and move the itunes library to my C Drive?

I just bought a new PC and now have ample space on my C drive to house my music Library which is currenlty installed on a external drive.  What is the best way to install and move the itunes library to my C Drive?

If the entire library is on the external drive then simply copy the iTunes folder into <User's Music> on the new computer, then install iTunes. If you've already installed iTunes you will want to remove the empty iTunes folder in <User's Music> first.
If it turns out you only have the media folder on the external drive then take a look at this post...
