Best way to make this stepper motor control system

The goal of my project is to have real-time data collected by a Dataq 158u utlimately controller a stepper motor.  I orignially planned on running this whole thing with basic stamp, but I'm realizing that this may not be possible.  I have a stepper motor and a L293DNE driver.  I will continuously be recording data with the dataq, in the form of volts, and want these values to determine how the motor works.  For example, if the voltage is 0-3 volts, I want it to rotate clockwise, 3-5 volts not rotate, and 5-8 volts rotate counter clockwise.
I've been trying to figure this out the past week, looking through threads with basic stamp, matlab, and now labview.
Is there an easy way to do this? or easier way that I am currently trying to figure out?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance.

Nick,
What I was describing is how you would need to configure the motor controller to accept PWM from LabVIEW and operate in a Locked Antiphase mode so you could control motor direction. A lot of the LabVIEW part depends on the DAQ you use. For instance does your DAQ have a Counter that can generate PWM? I did some checking just now and your DAQ is not manufactured by National Instruments and I could not locate any native LabVIEW drivers. I did however go to the Dataq 158u MFG website and found they do have LabVIEW drivers BUT their Software (SW) must be running in the back ground. The Dataq 158u web site also has a help forum, I suggest you start their to understand the capability of the Dataq 158u. Also it appears you are not familiar at all with LabVIEW , before you can take on a project like this you need to start with the basics of LabVIEW, learn how to handle arrays so you can store your ADC results and how to use loops and timing and shift registers.  NI has some FREE basic training like the 6 HR intrudction to LabVIEW I would start their. Oh and in your OP (original post) you doubted the Basic Stamp could do this, I do this type of control using Atmel micro controllers all the time, I am sure the Stamp could eaisily do this. Just get on one of their forums for more info. Oh and to answer your question an Inverter is an IC that inverts the input signal, what you would end up with at the direction pins of you motor controller is PWM on one pin and 180Deg out of phase PWM on the other.

  • Best way to make a slideshow for a wedding?

I am trying to make a slideshow for a wedding. What is the best way to make this?

Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

I am trying to make a pdf of a file and I need to get the file size to be no bigger than 10MB. Even when I save it, the image quality at minimum the file size is 10.9 MB. What is the best way to do this

@Barbara – What purpose is that PDF for? Print? Web?
If web purpose, you could convert CMYK images to sRGB. That would reduce the file size as well.
A final resort to bring down file size is:
    1. Print to PostScript
    2. Distill to PDF
That would bring file size down even more. About 20%, depending on the images and other contents you are using, compared with the Acrobat Pro method. If you like you could send me a personal message, so we could exchange mail addresses. I could test for you. Just provide the highres PDF without any downsampling and transparency intact. Best provide a PDF/X-4.
I will place the PDF in InDesign, print to PostScript, distill to PDF.

  • What is the best way to make music in Logic pro8?

ok, Im using a Mac, 3 external keyboards,a profire 2626 (audio interface) and a MIDI sport (midi interface). I am wanting to track in the audio from the 3 keyboards as MIDI. I wanted to know what is the best way to do this? Is it required to record the audio and MIDI at the same time? When i do do this, (record MIDI and Audio simultaniously), i get this doubling effect after the loop comes back, because of the MIDI and the Audio tracks combined. Arent you supposed to create some kind of Aux track to avoid this so, you can monitor what you just made so this "doubling effect" isnt heard?...another question. I am experiencing latency and it doesnt make sense. I have a low buffer size (32), but i only experience it when i play the space bar or hit record, not if im just sitting there hitting keys..however, I found a trick to avoid this, but here is where it doesnt make sense. If i go to Settings>Synchronization>MIDI...then set my Transmit MIDI Clock Destination to (ALL)...i hear the Latency wehne i hit space bar or record..But if i deselect All...and choose MIDI Sport Port 1...or port 2....there is no latency when i hit space bar or record.. and this doesnt make sense to me because i have 3 keyboards in Ports 1-3..so why wont the destination work better on All?....ok,,that sums it up ..thanks

There are many different ways to use Logic. You will develop your own technique as you gain experience with it. The doubling you are experiencing is because the midi track is being sent back into your instrument as you record.. Shut off local control on your keyboard. Or temporarily assign the midi track you are recording to an instrument that is NOT being sent back to the same instrument..
If you are recording three midi keyboards at once, make sure each one is sending on a different midi channel, also make sure that midi instruments are NOt sending back to your keyboards.
Getting rid of latency is another problem. I am not familiar with MIDI sport. What you want to do is listen to a LIVE input (coming directly from instrument) - then turn the level down on the corresponding track you are recording into Logic. If your audio interface won't let you do that you must turn the audio buffer down as low as your computer will allow without distortion.

  • Event Structures-best way to implement this UI?

I am trying to write a VI to control & read data from 4 different "channels" (each measuring a DUT) at once.  I have written all the VI's for initializing instruments, communicating with the devices (VISA, GPIB), setting bias, reading data, etc...that has all completed. I just need to write the overall program with the user interface to allow the user to control these 4 channels & display the measured data.....as it turns out, this is the tricky part! My head is spinning from trying to figure out how to handle all the possible events.
Basically for each channel, I want the user to be able to
-enable/disable it  for measurement (e.g. if  there is no device loaded in Ch.3, we don't want to measure Ch.3..maybe disable/grey everything)
-set bias conditions (only if channel enabled). Allow user to change bias "in real-time" by increment/decrementing (e.g. incrementing from 5.00 V to 5.01 V, for example).
-turn biasing on/off (again, only if channel is enabled)
Also,  I want each channel to display its measured data (e.g current, temperature reading)..every second or so. No graphs or anything fancy (for now! ), just numeric indicator.
Honestly, this all sounds so simple but I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to implement this, due to the fact that 1) there are multiple channels needing to be monitored for events  2) large number of user events that could occur (seems like at least 4 per channel - enabling/disabling, turning bias on/off, incrementing/decrementing bias values, etc ), Also the if a channel IS enabled, i want to be continously reading/displaying the data.  What is the best way to handle this? Should i have 4 separate while loops, each with an event structure to handle events for that particular channel..or will that give me grief somewhre?
Also, I have another nagging question. Pretty much all the examples I see re: Event Structures and booleans involve latched booleans, eg. buttons that are just pressed once and pop back up...e.g. buttons you press to tell it to complete a task (e.g. "Acquire Data" or "Stop") , and once it's pressed it's over and reset.  In my case, some of the booleans would not be latched...e.g. the "Enable Ch.2" button would be 'TRUE" as long as i want Ch. 2 to be read....does that make sense? Then, say hours later,  if i did want to disable that channel,  i would change it to "FALSE" and while that would be an "value change", the new value would not be "TRUE"..does that make sense? So  not sure if that would be dealt with the same way in an Event Structure.
Hope this all makes sense and many thanks in advance for any help!!!

You're halfway there. I'd say the best solution is a producer/consumer structure, the event structure is used to generate queued commands to the consumer loop.
All data is handled in the consumer loop, where you among other things have an array of clusters of channel/instrument settings. (I usually have several cluster, one for test data, one for instrument settings, one for general settings and so on)
The event structure can have a 1 sec timeout, in which you queue up a Measure command.
In the consumer, in the measure state you loop through your instruments and if enabled you measure them and update their indicators.
The general (smart) way to setup the queue is with a cluster containing 2 elements, a typedef'd Command and a variant.
This way you can send data with the command in any form which is then interpreted in the consumer.
If, e.g. you press the Enable button on a channel, you can enqueue Enable and the channel number.

  • What is the best way to make a program fit different monitor resoultions?

In our lab all our test stations have 1280x1024 resoultion monitors. In the "other lab" all the test station monitors are 1440x900 resoultion.
Now I am tasked with making my programs run on the test stations in the other lab. I have tried setting the options "maintain proportions of windows for different monitor resoultions" and "Scale all object on front panel as the windows resizes" and of course neither one of these options really does what I would expect it to do.
What is the best way to make programs fit different monitor resoultions?

    J-M wrote:
I resize the Front Panel when the program start to fit the monitor resolution.  After that, I use the "SBE_Determine If Screen Resized.vi" from TomBrass (http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Resizing-controls-on-a-tab-control-within-a-pane/td-p/1520244 ).  This vi is very useful if you don't want to monopolize the CPU with the "Panel Resize" event.
I don't like this function for a couple reasons.  First for the example you don't need any custom code to handle the window resizing, just use a couple splitters.  Even if you did need to handle the resize, you only resize after the mouse is up after the resize which is not how normal Windows programs work they resize as the mouse moves.  So I modified the VI to resize objects as you resize the window.  Then because doing this can generate 100 events very quickly, I use a boolean in a shift register to make sure that we only handle the resize event if there is no new resize events after 0ms.  This essentially makes a lossy queue and handles the last resize event.

  • Best way to make a DVD slideshow?

I recently went on vacation to Italy and Switzerland and want to make a slideshow on a DVD that has section for each country. What is the best way to do this? Would I make two separate iMovie projects for each one? Or would I do the whole thing in iDVD? I am totally new to this so any help is grandly appreciated.

    follow Fred's advice..
I like to have control, to 'edit' my 'shows', length of each slide, transitions, titles, pauses, music, narration.. iDVD is just doing/'burning' DVDs, but editing is an editors job.. = iMovie ..

  • HT1451 I need to move my library from my old computer to my new laptop. What's the best way to do this?

I need to move my library from my old computer to my new laptop (Windows 8). What's the best way to do this?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. I am moving from Southern California to Maui, Hawaii and I need to figure out the best way to get my 24 inch iMac across the ocean. Does anyone know the best way to do this? I have found GearGrip's LCD harness so that I can do carry-on onto the plane...  Or maybe use a Pelican Case to do it as a "checked bag"? Or any other suggestions??! Please help!
    Thanks so much!!

I don't recommend you send the iMac in a checked bag. Might get damaged.
Check the airlines website for carry on guidelines.
Or, if you have the original box that the iMac came in, if you have someone who can pick up the iMac for you, send it ahead Fed Ex and insure the package.
Just make sure the display is covered to protect it. A blanket perhaps.

  • What is the best way to make a DVD from iMovie

What is the best way to make a DVD from iMovie?
    I am using iMovie 06 (Naturally) with iDVD 08. I have always used;
iMovie 06, File > Share to iDVD 08. And got pretty good results.
Some say the best way is to quit iMovie 06, open iDVD and import the movie from the Media button.
I have tried both methods in the results look the same. I'm interested in getting the very best quality possible.

You likely have one of the most expensive media converter boxes on the market today.
But does it work well with most macs? (my guess is that it does). But more specifically can it "handshake" with an intel based mac? I personally haven't tried it.
But you may want to read this for yourself if you haven't already:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1179361&tstart=2362
Assuming it works then the best format is .dv which this unit will support apparently.

What is the best way to make a list of addresses for envelopes and labels?  Address book, Pages or Numbers?

I liek your idea of having multiple images in a grid. I think
that would be the best bet as you mentioned. Having one big picture
would be hard to distinguish the sub-areas with mouse coordinates.
I think checking the coordinates for the mouse would be very
tedious because I would have to check for the left boundary, the
right, top, and bottom for each sub-area!
What do you mean by using button components and reskinning.
Is this simply using buttons and changing the way they look? I'm
just trying to save time and memory, because if I had a 10 by 10
grid, thats a hundred buttons. Wouldn't that slow down the machine
alot? And for that matter wouldn't having a grid of 10 by 10 images
    also by the same deal?
Thanks for the input, I'm just trying to find the most
    efficient way to do it.

  • Best way to make a menu that shows up on all pages and that's easy to add links to later?

Hi everyone, first post on the forums.  I am very new to using Dreamweaver and making web pages in general, so bear with me
Here's what I want to do:
    1. Make a web site with a menu bar on the left with about 30 links.
    2. All 30 links go to different pages on the same website, and each page has the exact same layout, only the body text is different (same placement of advertising, menu, etc.)
    3. I want to be able to add links to that menu quickly and easily.
In other words, I basically want to just make one static menu that shows up the same  way on each page of my site.
Now, how I am thinking is best to do this is to make one menu its own page (in its own frame??) and just have each page on my site link to that menu, so that whenever I want to update the menu, I don't have to update the static menu on each page of my website, only the one menu.html or whatever.
This is probably the easiest thing in the world to do and I'm probably not using the proper terminology or anything, but I hope that I have explained myself clearly.
Please respond if you have any ideas about how to accomplish this.  Thank you!

While Breqent is right that server side includes are the best way of doing this if you aren't up on
server side coding then you can use Dreamweaver to manage you menu.
You do this by simply ensuring you never edit the menu area on any individual page.
It should therefore be identical on all page and as such you can just use find and replace across the entire site or folder to edit all occurances of your menu.
    I hope this helps.

  • Best way to make a Constant Power Load

What would be the best way to make a load that always draws the same amount of power whatever the voltage on it. For exemple, an load would draw 100 mA at 24 VDC, 150 mA at 18 VDC and 200 mA at 12 VDC. All I found is to use Nonlinear Dependant source.
Any easier way to do this? Thanks.

Sorry about the file mix up, I was anxious to get it posted for you that I failed to realize you were using a different version.
As far as the last "amplifier" in your Leaky Feeder design, I actually hooked it up to the 24VDC supply on the left and this was a direct connect before the first resistor.  I realize this is not what would be ideal for your application as probably you have only a certain place in the Leaker Feeder to tap off from. I would suppose this would be going into a different entry way off the main entry at an intersection so I do not know how my adjusting the placing of this would effect the results because it seems to me by doing this I have bypassed a bunch resistance in the Feeder cable itself (if that is what the resistors represent) and also bypassed a number of amplification stages in the process as well.
I will post a picture of my circuit for you to examine and try in Version 9.  This is the only thing I could come up with to where the power draw was the same no matter what the voltage input was. The only thing I can see as a drawback is that with this circuit the current remains constant but the voltage fluctuates. If I use a 24V regualtor and drop the input voltage to 12V the current remains at approx 118ma but the voltage drops to 12V when I plug it into your circuit.. I will let you try it and see what you may be able to do with it.
