Best way to migrate iTunes Windows to new Mac?

Finally getting back to the Mac for my main computer.
Been on Windows for a zillion years (it seems) so I have a good setup on my iTunes libary and how it syncs with my iPod Touch and Classic. Many purchases as well.
What is the best way to migrate from win to mac so that I don't have to klobber settings and album artwork and re-set up my iPods from scratch? Would like to keep podcasts settings, the whole works.
Any way to do it? The file x-fer is of course trivial...but I could spend a week re-jiggering all my settings for sync and whatnot and I can't afford the time and aggravation.
Help!

Have the Apple Store do this for you or call Apple support and they will help you do it.

  • What is the best way to migrate photo library to new Mac ?

Hi .... I just bought off ebay an Mac Mini 2.53Mhz running Mountain Lion . This was a great and cost effective purchase to upgrade my very tired Mac Mini 1.6 duo running Snow Leopard (still going as a second computer) .
However , I am not sure best way to transfer over my photos ?
I have a Time Capsule and I can use migration assistant
    - but when doing this and choosing just photos nothing else , the process creates a new user and is a real mess on the desktop.  Thus I am left with two users on the computer : and I can't access the photos from the 2.53 Mac mini user that I created for the computer , I have to log in to this restored profile.  Annoying !
    - I believe migration assistant linking the two macs through an ethernet cabe will give the same results
I have now purchased a firewire cable 400 to 800 , so the two macs are now linked . Would this be a cleaner way to transfer photos ? How should I set about it. I don't want to drag over any mess from the old computer ... I just want to get the photos onto the new computer and then link that to time capsule.
    Thanks

    Hey there cosmiconion,
It sounds like you are needing to copy over a folder containing images from your Snow Leopard computer to your newer Mountain Lion machine. You can do this by enabling File Sharing for that folder or directory, then accessing that from Finder on your newer computer, and this article will help you do that:

  • Best way to migrate iTunes and iPod to new hard drive

Currently, my iTunes Library is referencing music files that sit on my music data drive (E:drive). My Library is actually on another data drive (D: drive), while my OS and apps are on the C: drive. I also have a networked Network Attached Storage (NAS) drive that has a duplicate copy of all of my music files.
One of the reasons I have the NAS is to have 24/7 access to my music files through a Sonos Zone Player system (highly recommend this) hooked up to my stereo. The Sonos player is able to pickup all of my playlists but because iTunes creates the plalists thinking that all of the songs reside on my E:drive, they are broken links as far as Sonos is concerned.
So my quesion is, what is the best way to redirect my iTunes Library so that it pulls the songs from the NAS rather than my internal E:drive? Since the NAS is always on, I don't care that when I want to play songs on my computer, it pulls them off of the NAS. In "migrating" the music file links, I'd like to maintain all of my rankings, play counts, and playlists. Is this possible?
If not, then at a minimum, I'll be swapping out my E:drive for a larger one and need to know the best way to migrate the music files. It would be simple to just take out my current music file drive, swap in the new drive, and copy the files from the NAS drive onto the new drive. Do I need to de-authorize my computer at the start so iTunes doesn't think I'm giving permission to a new computer? Will my play counts, ratings, and playlists still show up? Regarding the latter, I'm guessing yes since the Music Library isn't being touched (on the D: drive).
Hope this makes sense to someone.
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

Well, you'll need to reinstall iTunes and the iPod updater.
Did you happen to save the iTunes library file?
What are the iTunes library files?

  • Best way to migrate iTunes, iPhoto, iCal, Address Book to Mac?

I have been a user of Macs since 1985, but my wife has always used Windows (and before that, MSDOS).
I have now gotten for her a new MacBookPro and would like suggestions on the best way to migrate the data needed to sync her iPhone with the new Mac.
Currently, her contacts and calendar are in Microsoft Outlook for Windows, her photos are in some kind of Windows program and her music is in iTunes for Windows.
What is the smoothest, easiest way to migrate these Windows files into a Mac format so she can use iCal on the Mac for her calendar, Address Book for contacts, iPhoto for pix and transfer her music from iTunes/Windows to iTunes for Mac?
Is there any way to just sync the new MacBookPro with the iPhone and have it upload the data from the iPhone to the Mac????
Just lookin' for the easiest way to do this....

  • Best Way To Migrate Local Accounts to new OD Server?

Hello everybody, I'll keep this simple:
I've got about 20 macs that have just joined themselves to my shiny new Open Directory (i.e. I bound each machine through the Directory Utility).
What is the best way to migrate their local accounts to network accounts? Note that almost all of these macs are laptops that will be taken home from time to time. And of course, the less 'interruption' of normalcy, the better.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Evan

I did something similar last year, migrating local accounts to network accounts after binding the machines to AD. I'm not sure how much what I did will differ for your particular case, but maybe this will point you in the right direction. Bear in mind, this sort of laborious, but it works well enough.
In my particular case, the local accounts were named the same as the network accounts so I had to do some sleight of hand with the home folders to make sure nothing got deleted on accident.
Log in as root (you could do this with an admin account, but root makes it much easier.)
Move the local account home folder out of the /Users folder and to the root desktop for safekeeping.
Go to User Account control panel and delete the user account.
Log out of root and log back in as the network user.
Log out of network user and log back in as root.
Delete the new, default home folder in /Users and move the old one back.
Use chown -R username /Users/username/ on the command line to give the new network account ownership of the old home folder.

  • Best way to restore iTunes contents on new computer.

The computer gods conspired to get me.  My Windows XP desktop failed beyond repair and I am getting a new Windows 7 desktop.  But also by some coincidence, my new external hard drive that I backup my system on weekly also failed.  I still have my previous external hard drive, however.  The last backup from that was the beginning of June.
So I am looking for the best way to get whole again.  I have NO downloaded music on the iPod (some music from CDs that I can reload).  I do have a number of apps however, some with a lot of data that would be difficult to replace (although updating from June would be doable).
If after installing iTunes on the new computer,I just synced to the iPod what would I lose?  Would it keep the apps data on the iPod?
Or should I install iTunes, copy my backup from my External drive to the new computer and restore from the backup?
    Thanks

    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program lke those discussed here:
    Best iPod to PC
    - Making a backup of the iPod by connecting the iPod to the computer and right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecing Backup
    - Restore the iPod from backup and sync as necessary.

  • Best way to migrate Oracle DB to new hardware.

Upgrading hardware from Win2003 32 bit to Win2008 R2 64 bit. Staying in the same Oracle DB 10gR2 - possibly just from 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.4. Why? Because the higher ups said so.
Any suggestions best and easiest way to migrate? I was thinking expdp of current schema and impdp in. Any opinions?

I believe the lowest release and patch set level for Win Server 2008 R2 (which is only 64-bit, by the way) is 10.2.0.5. This is documented!
Also, why 32-bit and not 64-bit, when on a 64-bit hw/os platform? Or maybe that was not the meaning of "same Oracle DB"? (Note 32-bit client connectivity with 64-bit server is fully possible)
Any suggestions best and easiest way to migrate? I was thinking expdp of current schema and impdp in. Any opinions? If schema is fairly small (or not so small and enough down time window exists), that sounds like a good way.

  • Best way to Migrate Actions to a new PC

    I built a new Win 7 x64 PC for CS5.  I have Photoshop CS6 installed there.
I have about 30 action sets on my CS4 machine that I want to migrate over to the new machine.  Is there a faster way than saving each set to a central location and loading them into CS5?
I did a search for all *.ATN files on the CS4 machine and could not find them stored anywhere.  Is there a folder where they should be stored in CS4?  In lightroom, my develop presets are all stored in one place and I can simply right click and "show in explorer" to see where this is.  It is easy.  But how can I do this for Photoshop?

Thank you.  If I understand this information correctly, then I should save each action set one at a time and that there is no way to save all action sets at once from within Photoshop or otherwise.
I am saving them to a backup disk so that I can easily add them to other PC's later.  But by doing this, any changes that I apply to the actions would not be in my backup folder of actions.  This is not exactly ideal, but there are only a few sets of actions that I update frequently.

  • Best way to migrate site to a new server

OK, Server #1 has the old site. I developed a new site and
used Server #2 to test it. I have gotten the OK to go live with the
new site which means it will be moved to server #1. What is the
best way to do this without confusing dreamweaver?
Edit: I am pretty inexperienced at web design and I am using
Dreamweaver 8, I know it is old.

That's because Templates have no relationship to where the
    site is hosted.
They only affect your local files....

  • Best way to move itunes library to new macbook pro

Would like to move my library to my new macbook pro, and have both computers have the library. What do you suggest to do this task?

I have previously backed-up to disk in iTunes, authorized the new computer to play my music, and restored to it - takes all play count, ratings etc across which I wanted too. This was between PCs but sure it will work on Mac too.
Anyone who has switched from PC to Mac - can you use a backup created on a PC to restore to a Mac - I'm switching to a MacBook Pro and want to keep my music!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Best way to migrate itunes from pc

I tried migartion assistant to migrate Itunes songs. The songs transfered toMacintosh/users/shared/files from "e"/itunes/music/music , but nothing shows up in the itunes library. Any ideas?

The iTunes library should have been transferred to your iTunes Library on your Mac, which would normally be located in your Macintosh/users/yourusername/Music/iTunes folder.
However it appears the files were copied instead to Macintosh/users/shared/files, which iTunes would not look for unless you specifically point iTunes to that location.  Because your folder naming is not the typical iTunes folder, I suspect you may have just gotten the files and not the iTunes folder.
If nothing shows up in iTunes on your Mac, the first thing I would try is this:
In iTunes, do File > Add To Library, navigate to your Macintosh/users/shared/files folder and if all your songs are there, select one or more of the folders and then iTunes should start importing them into your iTunes Library on your Mac.  After you are done importing you can (should) delete the files in Macintosh/users/shared/files because at that point they would just be unused duplicates of what is now in your iTunes Library.

  • Migrating iTunes library to new Mac

I recently used Migration assistant to transfer just my iTunes library file from an iMac to my MacBook Pro (both running snow leopard with latest versions etc). However after completing the process I cannot find the files on my new Mac anywhere. I know they are there because my available hard disk space is about 125GB lower but ITunes does not have any music content and I cannot find any files on the system that large. Please help!

Migration Assistant copies the files into the same accounts on the new computer.
If your username is not the same, it will create the old username account on the new computer.
Likely you are logged into a different user account on your MacBook.
Go to System prefs -> Accounts and see if there's another account.
If so, log into that account (should be same username and password as on the iMac) and drag the \Music\iTunes\ folder to the Shared directory.
You can leave iot there if you wish.
Log back into the account your are using now, hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select *Choose library* then select the iTunes library file in the \Shared\iTunes\ folder.
Or simply drag the \iTunes\ folder from the Shared folder to your current \Music\ folder, replacing what's there.

  • Best way to migrate ASM diskgroups to new diskgroups on new storage

Hi, we are currently planning a Storage migration, and we have 2 node RAC 10gR2 so we need to know a better way to perform data migration from current ASM Diskgroups to new storage.
Could anyone comment about this ?

Connect new storage to host, add new disks to disk groups, remove old disks from diskgroups.

  • Easiest/Best way to migrate to a new machine

I got a new Intel Mac (wooo-whooo!) and I need to move my Lightroom stuff over to the new Mac from my old G5. I had my all image files pointed to by Lightroom as opposed to imported into my Lightroom directory. So what is the best way to get Lightroom on my NEW Mac so it is identical to where I left off with my old one (ie, all my collections in order, keywords, color correction data etc.).
What is the best course of action? Is it as easy as just copying my lightroom database to the Lightroom folder on my new Mac and pointing to the new image directory? Which should I do first, point to the images or replace the existing database?
Such migrations have proven far more difficult and error prone with some of my other Apps (iPhoto, iTunes), so before I take on the task, I want to make sure I ma going about it the wrong way so I don't create problems.
Any ideas, suggestion, warnings and details about how to go about this would be most apprecfated.
    -Nick

    Nick:
Grab your trusty Firewire cable, connect the two machines and boot the G5 so that it's drive(s) appear on the desktop of the Intel Mac. Now just drag-and-drop all the image folders to the new machine.
But something tells me you already know about this method.

Are you deliberately excluding PC owners so we cannot use ituens on our computers???? I have selected a community but have no idea what community I should be working with. Can somone explai these communities to me? Also. you don't allow much time to go thru the sign up process. I had to start over SEVERAL times as you kept timing me out. Jesus...when people are signing up for the first time, we have no idea of the questions that will be asked. Give us a break and give us time to sign up. Not everone is disability free and able to go thru your process quickly...you are NOT user friendly. You should be for people who are wanting to join your community. I used to want an Apple product but now that  I have had first hand experience with your web page, I think I will probably stay away from Apple products. VERY DISAPPOINTING
