Best way to migrate to new server?

We're moving from a G5 XSERVE with an old RAID to a new one with the Promise. Will all the permissions (we're bound to Active Directory) carry over without an issue or will we have to go through Workgroup Admin and re-do everything (which would take hours)? Just trying to find out the best way to do this migration with minimal headaches. The new server is already set up and running, bound to AD, etc. I'm just worried about the permissions being hosed.
What other issues should I be aware of? Is there an Apple document that covers migrating/upgrading XSERVES?

  • Which is the best way to migrate the SQL SERVER 2000 Database to SQL SERVER 2003 Database?

    Hi,
I  need to migrate the Production database sql server 2000 to Sql server 2003, Please give me the best idea to migrate the database without any loss data, credentials and  Objects.
    Nandha Kumar

SQL server does not have any version named SQL server 2003 please check the version correctly it should be either SQL 2005,2008,2008 R2,2012
You can use the backup/restore to upgrade the SQL 2000 database to till SQL 2005,2008,2008R2
For SQL Server 2000 to 2012
First upgrade from SQL 2000 database to either SQL 2005, 2008 or 2008R2 and than upgrade it to SQL 2012.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/eaa1eb44-729f-466b-8233-cb768fbb4208/upgrading-to-sql-server-2008-from-sql-server-2000?forum=sqlsetupandupgrade

And after migration to SQL 2005 or 2008, if you want to script the database than can generate scripts pick DB and check off "script all objects in the selected database".

You can upgrade from SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, and SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012.

  • Best Way to Migrate to Mail Server

I want to get off of Google Mail. I have a mini with Lion Server 10.7.3 on it. I had my ISP add a PTR record to their DNS server. I'm thinking I should be able to just point my DNS server to the new server and then point my Mail app to the server on the mini. Of course, I am thinking that if this doesn't work, it might make a mess and reverting might be a nuisance. (I am a programmer, not an admin.)
Should I maybe make a subdomain and get that working first? e.g. webmail.<domain name>.com?
    Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately keeping the OS-X Server alive as an archive is not an option because there's major corruptions in this server right now and I need to completely format it and reinstall from scratch once the mail is migrated into Exchange. The problem is the server's datas as been transferred/copied/migrated from an old XServe (10.6 Server) into a Mac Pro Server (Mid-2012 generation, bought in summer 2013), then upgraded to Lion Server and finally to Mavericks Server.
Actually Mail/iCal/Contacts are the last services running on this server (with Open Directory for authentication). After the format/reinstall the OS-X Server will only act as :
    - Profile Manager
    - Software Update
    - Caching
I'll probably use the MacPro (12-core, 32 GB) to video processing and use a MacMini i7 as server.
Everything on the server's side will now be running on few Windows Server 2012 (R2) on a true servers hardware (HP Proliant) incling Active Directory Domain, File Server, Print Server, DHCP, DNS, Terminal Server, VPN, etc. And mail service will be provided by Microsoft Exchange 2013 hosting service (Office 365).

  • Best way to migrate between servers Server 2012

I want to image or clone my old server and install on the new server. I was looking to go the route of ImageX/DISM and clone the old one, then burn the image to a DVD. Am I on the right track? I tried using Windows AIK for Windows 7, but it gives me error
50 on the final step. What should I do to easily move my existing server to the new one. I don't want to do all Windows Updates and server roles over again. Also, this is not a DC.

    Hi,
I think AIK for windows 7 cause the problem.
Try the latest version for windows 8.1.
Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK) for Windows 8.1 Update

  • Best way to Migrate to new RAZR MAXX from DX ?

I'll soon be upgrading from my Droid X to a Razr Maxx and was wondering the easiest method to move to the new phone so that ALL of my APPs migrate after activation.  e.g., After doing the *228 option 1  and logging into my GMAIL account, will all the APPS automatically get downloaded? Or should I use an APP like "AppList Backup" - it's RESTORE function.  How did you peeps do this when you switched phones?
    thanks in advance

When are you getting your new phone Cody: when you get an this is what i done when i took my out of the box i charged it first thing didn't even turn it on once it finished.  I then cut very carefully on the edges of the Sim Card with my X-Acto with No.11 blade then grabbed it by it's edges an it's had to do this Cody but i did an then i installed as it shows gold side Up Now pushing that little Turkey was a little hard for me an i did not have a Sim Card push Tool so I made One i used a Toothpick i Cut it to Ware it had a Blunt Face an by doing that Cody i was Able to push the Sim in all the Way. Cody Right before you turn it Do a Factory Reset on your X to take out all the stuff that will soon be on your Maxx then shut it Down that's the way i done on mine..
Now your can Power up your Maxx
Now when you Turn it ON you won't have to do a *228   Any longer as the phone programs it self Via the Sim Card.  An flowing thru the Instructions is basically like it was when you programed you X. If your contacts are saved thru Google like mine is as soon as enter your Account or Accounts those contacts an you Paid Apps will be on your Razr!  mine was on the my Maxx in just a few Seconds an No hang up at all.

  • Best Way To Migrate Local Accounts to new OD Server?

Hello everybody, I'll keep this simple:
I've got about 20 macs that have just joined themselves to my shiny new Open Directory (i.e. I bound each machine through the Directory Utility).
What is the best way to migrate their local accounts to network accounts? Note that almost all of these macs are laptops that will be taken home from time to time. And of course, the less 'interruption' of normalcy, the better.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Evan

I did something similar last year, migrating local accounts to network accounts after binding the machines to AD. I'm not sure how much what I did will differ for your particular case, but maybe this will point you in the right direction. Bear in mind, this sort of laborious, but it works well enough.
In my particular case, the local accounts were named the same as the network accounts so I had to do some sleight of hand with the home folders to make sure nothing got deleted on accident.
Log in as root (you could do this with an admin account, but root makes it much easier.)
Move the local account home folder out of the /Users folder and to the root desktop for safekeeping.
Go to User Account control panel and delete the user account.
Log out of root and log back in as the network user.
Log out of network user and log back in as root.
Delete the new, default home folder in /Users and move the old one back.
Use chown -R username /Users/username/ on the command line to give the new network account ownership of the old home folder.

  • Best way to migrate iTunes and iPod to new hard drive

Currently, my iTunes Library is referencing music files that sit on my music data drive (E:drive). My Library is actually on another data drive (D: drive), while my OS and apps are on the C: drive. I also have a networked Network Attached Storage (NAS) drive that has a duplicate copy of all of my music files.
One of the reasons I have the NAS is to have 24/7 access to my music files through a Sonos Zone Player system (highly recommend this) hooked up to my stereo. The Sonos player is able to pickup all of my playlists but because iTunes creates the plalists thinking that all of the songs reside on my E:drive, they are broken links as far as Sonos is concerned.
So my quesion is, what is the best way to redirect my iTunes Library so that it pulls the songs from the NAS rather than my internal E:drive? Since the NAS is always on, I don't care that when I want to play songs on my computer, it pulls them off of the NAS. In "migrating" the music file links, I'd like to maintain all of my rankings, play counts, and playlists. Is this possible?
If not, then at a minimum, I'll be swapping out my E:drive for a larger one and need to know the best way to migrate the music files. It would be simple to just take out my current music file drive, swap in the new drive, and copy the files from the NAS drive onto the new drive. Do I need to de-authorize my computer at the start so iTunes doesn't think I'm giving permission to a new computer? Will my play counts, ratings, and playlists still show up? Regarding the latter, I'm guessing yes since the Music Library isn't being touched (on the D: drive).
Hope this makes sense to someone.
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

Well, you'll need to reinstall iTunes and the iPod updater.
Did you happen to save the iTunes library file?
What are the iTunes library files?

What is the best way to migrate PSE6 Catalog (Wxp) to new computer W7, PSE11?  Previous PSE6 recovery (Wxp) after a failed HD resulted in pictures showing but not opening due to connection issues.  Had to restore pictures from backup and rebuild the catalog and albums.  Found a third party fix afterwards that has no support past PSE8.  Trying to make this migration to PSE11 painless.

That's a very common and classical situation :
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/backup-restore-move-catalog-photoshop.html
Just make sure that your backup to the external drive is ok : you should find a 'backup.tly' file in the folder.
Use the PSE11 organizer to restore from the PSE7 backup : the first step restores all your media files, the second automatically does a catalog conversion to the PSE11 format.
Read the note in the above link about restoring from XP to ulterior Win OS. You can also restore to a 'custom' location. For instance in a 'C:\My new library' folder. Make sure that master folder is accessible to all users, and if you want, you can move the catalog (database) itself from that location to the default location : catalog manager, option to move catalogs to location accessible to all users.

  • Best way to spec a new Linux server from existing Windows 2003 server?

We are looking to upgrade our servers to 11.1.2 and I am looking for some documentation/suggestions on the best way to spec the new box on a Linux platform.
I do have the current documentation from ORACLE with regard to "Estimating Disk and Memory Requirements" but am looking for some processor suggestions as well..
Any thoughts or ideas would be welcomed.
Especially helpful would be anyone who is currently running in a Linux environment any pitfalls or issues you've been having with hardware or software.
    Thanks in advance.
    Adam,

I don't think it is possible to recommend you any hardware setup without knowing your environment, budget and expertise.
If you plan to install Enterprise Linux, like Oracle Linux, you should look into getting server hardware and not a desktop system. You may also want think about using Oracle VM virtualization products.
Are you looking for rackmount or blade systems? it might be possible to limit your hardware decision between HP, Dell and IBM. I would personally prefer HP, but that's a matter of experience.
You should probably find out your OS requirements. E-business products and installation instructions are usually designed for the OS version that existed at that time. If you install a newer version of the OS you may run into configuration or backward compatibility issues that may require to install additional software. You should check your OS requirements first before purchasing any hardware. The newest hardware may not support older versions of the OS.
The HP support side shows a Linux certification matrix at: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/hplinuxcert.html which might be helpful should you decide to get HP equipment.
You might also want to check your current Oracle licensing if you upgrade to a faster or more CPU's.

  • Best way to migrate iTunes Windows to new Mac?

Finally getting back to the Mac for my main computer.
Been on Windows for a zillion years (it seems) so I have a good setup on my iTunes libary and how it syncs with my iPod Touch and Classic. Many purchases as well.
What is the best way to migrate from win to mac so that I don't have to klobber settings and album artwork and re-set up my iPods from scratch? Would like to keep podcasts settings, the whole works.
Any way to do it? The file x-fer is of course trivial...but I could spend a week re-jiggering all my settings for sync and whatnot and I can't afford the time and aggravation.
    Help!

Have the Apple Store do this for you or call Apple support and they will help you do it.

  • Best way to migrate Mailboxes with all permissions Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2010--cross forest

    Hi,
Due to some Exchange and Active Directory issues (with remnants of old Ex 2003 server), we are going to migrate Exchange 2010 Mailboxes and public folders to a new Exchange 2010 Sp3 server, which is created in a new AD forest.
I would really appreciate if someone can direct us to the best way to migrate mailboxes and PFs with their permissions, to new Ex 2010 SP3 server. We have around 30 mailboxes, and 300 GB of mailboxes data, and 200 GB of PFdata.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Regards, David Johnson

    Hello,
Firstly, you need to creat forest trust between two forests.
If you want to move AD user account and mailboxes, please use ADMT and PrepareMoveRequest script.
If you want to migrate public folder, please export data to PST file and then import pst file to new server.
    Additional article for your reference.

  • Best way to migrate data

I'm having a new HD installed and I'm using TM to back up my data to a new HD. What is the best way to migrate the data from my external HD to my new installed HD? thanks

To use Time Machine you must first boot into OS X which means you have to install OS X from somewhere. A fresh install of Leopard from DVD takes roughly 1-2 hours depending on the speed of your computer and optical drive. Then you have to restore your data with TimeMachine and that will take ????. Obviously that depends on how your TM drive is connected to the computer and how much data there is to transfer.
A SuperDuper clone is bootable. You connect the drive to your computer and boot into the drive. Was your crash catastrophic and at a horrible time? You are back in business right now - not 2-? hours from now as you would be with TimeMachine. That is the big advantage of SuperDuper.
TimeMachine will have/has had a huge impact on my backup scheme but I'm still assessing how I'll ultimately use it. What I do know is that I'll continue to clone my computers using SD so that if Murphy strikes I'll be right back in business immediately.
