Best way to organise photos on iphone and mac plus transferring question

HI all
sorry if this has been asked before. However what is the best way to set up photos i have taken on my iphone 4 on my iphone. At the moment all photos are in camera roll. Is it possible to set up different photo albums on my iphone?
Also whats best way to keep the photos on my iphone and also transfer photos on my macbook pro to my iphone. As itunes only gives me a sync option and I believe that only puts certain photos from iphoto to my iphone and may replace photos that are on my iphone already. Also how to transfer photos on my macbook to my iphone. I am sorry if this is such a silly question. But hope someone can help and explain this to me.
thanks in advance

You need to import the photos in your camera roll to iPhoto. Treat the camera roll just like you'd treat any digital camera...temporary storage only. You cannot organize photos in the camera roll. Once in iPhoto, you can create various albums, copy whatever photos you want on your phone to these various albums, then select what albums/events you want to sync back to your phone in iTunes.

  • Best way to transfer video between iphone and mac wirelessly?

Please suggest me the best way to transfer files between mac and iphone wirelessly.Mainly for videos.

If you want to transfer photos and videos from the Mac to the iPhone (but not in the other direction) you can use iTunes and sync via wi-fi: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
If you want to wirelessly tranfer videos in the other direction you may want to look into a 3rd party app such as http://www.photosync-app.com Note that I have not used that app so be sure to investigate others as well.

  • Best Way to Transfer Photos from iPhone to Mac

    Okay, here's my situation.
I installed Snow Leopard and the installation window told me I had to change my volume scheme. Not knowing why the button to allow me to do this was grayed out, I called Apple. The woman I talked to had me boot from the Snow Leopard disc and perform that action. It worked, but what she had be do seemed to delete my hard drive. Because what did say "Macintosh HD" now said "Untitled 1".
I finished the installation and came to find out that hard drive files were gone.
Of course Apple can't be blamed, because I should've had my computer backed up. (Ehh. I'm still very angry though..)
Anyways, I found a nice program to transfer the music from my iPhone to my Mac, but not one single reliable to one to transfer photos.
HELP! I really need to get these photos (amount: 2,000+) on my computer so I can sync it.

I assume these photos are NOT in your camera roll, correct?
    If that's the case:

Of course you realize that the photos you synced to your phone were "optimized" for viewing on the iphone & thus were reduced in size.

  • The best way to transfer videos between devices and mac?

I have an iphone 4s, ipad and a macbook pro - is there any way to transfer videos wirelessly betwen these platforms?
As far as I know icloud only allows photostream of photos only but nit videos. This is quite inconvenient for video users as I normally take videos using my iphone 4s and would like to edit using ipad/mac's iMovie. I suppose I could transfer videos using a wire between iphone and Mac (still a PAIN without being able to transfer wirelessly), and what about between iphone and ipad? I understand Apple might be concerned about storage and speed for video transfer via icloud, if we could selectively do the transfer and have the option to delete them from icloud after the transfer it will be very much easier for video editor like myself.
Or have I just missed something? Is there indeed a way to do so??

  • Starting with a new iMac, best way to organise photos

My old computer macbook pro, was overflowing with badly filed photos, projects and files. As I start with a clean slate, my new iMac my question is the best way to be keeping things, I use illustrator mostly for complex surface patterns.  I have photos galore in i-photo, some even have the same auto file number sequence as I use multiple sd cards.  For my photos, should I use bridge, i-cloud, is iPhoto old school now.  I am not going to just dump my old stuff over and want to do it properly, I promise not to be unorganised on my new iMac (promise).  Also, a brief explanation of when you would use Raw, over Lightroom, over Photoshop or visa versa, or is it just a personal choice.  The more I learn about software the more confused I get.
    Thanks & much appreciated
    Regards Vicky

I do understand the reference to the cloud not being about a specific app. I also understand that you, Vicky, are not quite sure which app to use with your fresh start. I am not sure it is horrible to ask here which app(s), workflow, or organizational system might be best to institute, given access to all the various apps available in CC.
I am not quite sure what you are doing, or what your previous workflow was, in part because of your mention of Adobe Illustrator for complex surface patterns. Were it not for that, between your title, and your reference to photos galore, I might suggest Lightroom. It is indeed in part a database, with an ability to handle, and organise, a very large number of photos. In addition to good developing and batch developing capabilities, as well as an ability to tag, as well as add to and manipulate metadata on both import and export, I find it useful. Were I to begin using Illustrator more, which I actually plan to do, I believe I'd either lean on bridge a bit more, very likely in conjunction with exported LR files, or see if it were in any way possible to set up AI as an external editor in LR, though at this point I've no idea if that is possible, or desired.
As to a specific workflow and system of organization, I feel that is quite subjective. For myself, I find myself creating a Library in LR for each Year, (though I could see a pro event photographer creating one for each event), and then importing my SD cards by copying as DNG, embedding the RAW, and setting up the file name to be the YearxxxxMonthxxDayxx_Hourxx24MinutexxSecondxx, with folders created for each month and day. That way, everything is ordered chronologically, even within the OS folders, and the filenames are consistent and unique. I also add metadata for the creator, etc. I then create Collections for each shoot I'm actually focussing on. From LR I can jump to PS or external third party addons, and return after I am done.
There are specific books and videos out there suggesting efficient ways of organizing and processing large numbers of images, and there is no, one right way. It largely depends on what you are comfortable with, and the way your mind works.
Best of luck to you; I know I'll need a bit, and a bit of self-discipline to buckle down and institute a consistent system myself.

  • Best way to organise multiple large clips and hundreds of subclips

    Situation
I have the task of producing a suite of short 2 minute videos comprising highlights of several hours of footage in multiple large files.
I want to extract and manage the highlights in a non-destructive way and organise them according to subject matter.
I would then use these in several projects to create the highlights videos required.
I am using Adobe CC, so it's CS6.
My approach so far is to:
    1. Import all the footage into a single project as individual large clips
    2. Scrub through each clip, set in/outs and extract to subclip, store in subject matter bin
    My questions:
    1.  if I go back to the original footage and edit it, it doesn't seem to flow through to the subclips. How do I make the subclips inherit the attributes of their parent? (e.g. could be sound, colour, etc)
    2. how do I access these highlights bins from another project?
    3. is this the best way to handle my situation?
    Thanks for your input.
    Ric

I suppose applying the effects to the source clip and rendering out a new source file is one way of doing it.  Just be very careful that you don't compress the output.  And, of course, it will double the amount of hard drive space.  I'd still make all the sub-clips first and use the "paste attributes" command.  I think you can even lasso a whole bunch of clips and paste attributes to all of them at once (they have to be in the timeline, though - not the project panel).
It shouldn't take an awful lot of hard drive space to duplicate projects.  Just duplicate the "prproj" file, not the whole projects folder (and certainly not the source material).
Here's a screen shot of my set-up for a complicated, 5-camera shoot of a play:
The original project (syncing all the cameras up) is 1 MB, each successive archive gets a little bigger but the current project is only 3.8 MB.  I would imagine if you are deleting bins and sequences for the mini-projects, the prproj file would actually get smaller than the original master.
Okay.. so here's the mantra about non-tape based video... First you back up the card (including the complete folder structure) onto an archive drive.  Next you copy this folder onto an external or RAID or other "real" archive drive.  Then (and only then) do you start editing the material!
Ideally, you need at least three, physically separate harddrives (not partitions) in an editing station (this is true Windows or Mac).  One drive for the operating system and applications only (no media or projects or anything!).  One for working projects (each project in its own folder) where everything except the source video is stored.  And finally one for the source video.  On my system my OS drive is Tardis ('cuz I'm a geek!).  I have a Projects drive for projects (duh!) a Scratch drive for working video files and an Archive for "finished" projects waiting delivery and back-back-ups of my SD cards.

  • Best way to organise photos in iPhoto

    Hello All!
I'm starting to scan our family history photos and I'm wondering about the most efficient way to organise them in iPhoto. I'd like to benefit from the experience of others on this Forum.
A typical photo should contain the following information: a date, a place and people’s names (e.g., 1963 Béal Feirste Séamas Eilis) and in many cases more detailed information (exact location, description…) in the Information tab. As I see it, I have basically a choice between two methods:
    1. Type in detailed individual titles as outlined above and then create as needed smart folders per year, per person, per location.
    2. Select relevant photos and assign keywords and then create smart folders as above.
I'm using Aperçu to scan my photos and it requires me anyway to type in titles. In that case is assigning keywords a waste of time?
I’m interested in using a method that not only makes finding and sorting photos easy but which also would enable me to use the resources of iPhoto to save time typing in details.
I'm looking forward to reading your advice!
And thank you for taking the time to reply!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Here's how I manage family photos.
1 - upload from camera or scan into a folder on the Desktop.
2 - name the folder with the date of the photo and a brief description of the shoot: +03/08/08-Temecula Hot Rod Show+.
3 - sequentially rename the photos with the date taken and a brief description: 2008-03-08-TemRodShow-001.jpg, -002.jpg, etc. I use a file renaming application like Name Mangler or Renamer4Mac to do the batch renaming.
4 - import the folder into iPhoto which will create an Event with the title +03:08:08-Temecula Hot Rod Show+.
5 - now I use keywords to identify whose in the photo, where it was taken and any other information. That way I can search for a person and a place or a person and a day.
For scanned photos iPhoto will sort them based on the scanned date. You can use the Photos->Batch Change->Date menu option to set the correct date for those photos.
6 - Albums can be used to group photos for special projects like books, slideshows, etc. Photos in albums are only links back to the original photo in the Events folders and do not take up any hard drive space. Smart Albums can be use to group all photos which contain the criteria set in the Smart Album - like all photos between two dates that have the keyword for a certain person.
5 - You can add virtual folders in the left hand source pane to hold other folder, albums, slideshows, etc. - like a 2009 folder containing albums of family gatherings in that year, birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas.
Others here will add other approaches to managing photos. It's been my experience that a little upfront preparation (like the folder and renaming before importing) goes a long way in having a organized library later down the line. Sit down with pencil and paper and layout what you want to have as far as organization. Then you can create a library and add keywords ahead of time for family members (don't forget the pets), places, things (like your hot rod, boat, etc.) so that they can be added easily as you import without having to take the time to create those keywords.
Also I've found that if I put off adding keywords at the time of import or shortly afterward I get waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind.

  • Can I use iCloud to store photos from iPhone and Mac?

I would like to use iCloud like Dropbox. I have photos that were taken on my iphone and photos that are loaded on my Mac from a camera that I would like to store in the Cloud. I would also like others be able to download their photos of this event to the same Icloud account. Is that possible?.

The only way you can store photos in iCloud indefinitely is if you add them to a shared stream.  However, when you do this, the photo will be at a lower resolution than the originals.
My photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days, allowing enough time for all your devices to receive them.  The only other photos in iCloud are camera roll photos stored in your backup.  However, you can't see anything in the backup unless you restore it to your device.  Also, if you delete the photos from your device and continue to back it up, the backup that contains the deleted photos will be overwritten by one that doesn't, and they wil be lost.

  • What is the best way to migrate photo library to new Mac ?

Hi .... I just bought off ebay an Mac Mini 2.53Mhz running Mountain Lion . This was a great and cost effective purchase to upgrade my very tired Mac Mini 1.6 duo running Snow Leopard (still going as a second computer) .
However , I am not sure best way to transfer over my photos ?
I have a Time Capsule and I can use migration assistant
    - but when doing this and choosing just photos nothing else , the process creates a new user and is a real mess on the desktop.  Thus I am left with two users on the computer : and I can't access the photos from the 2.53 Mac mini user that I created for the computer , I have to log in to this restored profile.  Annoying !
    - I believe migration assistant linking the two macs through an ethernet cabe will give the same results
I have now purchased a firewire cable 400 to 800 , so the two macs are now linked . Would this be a cleaner way to transfer photos ? How should I set about it. I don't want to drag over any mess from the old computer ... I just want to get the photos onto the new computer and then link that to time capsule.
    Thanks

    Hey there cosmiconion,
It sounds like you are needing to copy over a folder containing images from your Snow Leopard computer to your newer Mountain Lion machine. You can do this by enabling File Sharing for that folder or directory, then accessing that from Finder on your newer computer, and this article will help you do that:

  • Best way to upload photos from iPhone 3GS?

I have an iPhone 3GS. I just took a bunch of photos on vacation. Now I would like to upload them to my Windows XP PC. I know I can send them via email one at a time, but I'd like a way to send them all at once. I do have a Dropbox account. I tried to download the Dropbox app, but it says it requires iOS 7. I tried to download iOS 7, but was told it can't run on the 3GS.
Is there a way that I can send all of the photos on my iPhone to my PC all at once?
    Thanks

You don't need any App. Attach your iPhone to a USB port on your computer and follow the instructions here: Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support

  • What is the best way to establish sso between iphone and IIS?

    Hi experts,
I try to configure the SCEP, and I can view a IIS content with "Certificate required", but, can I validate the username with this certificate?
    thanks in advance,

    Hi,
Yes, TCP/IP is most universal way for the communication. Otherwise you should develop some parts for establish connection / break connection / wait for the data. This way also good when you need to transfer the data across network.
Another possible way is following: you can create DLL from your LabVIEW code, then call this dll from your C# application, and interchange the data through this DLL. Here you can use different techniquies (also TCP/IP as well). The advantage of this method that you will establish LabVIEW<->LabVIEW communication.
In attached example I have create "quick and dirty" project with shared variables. LabVIEW application will write the shared variable, then external application will read this, increment variable, then LabVIEW will read it back. I have used CVI, but you can call SharedLib from C#, here no differences.
    Something like that:
    best regards,
    Andrey.

  • Best way to remove photos from iPhone camera roll

what is the simplest method for removing a LOT of photos from my iPhone 5S camera roll. I am trying not to remove them one at a time.

So, I am a bit confused.  But, thank you for being succinct.  I appreciate that very much!
    1.  I have imported them to Aperture; so they are on my iMac.
    2. What I do not exactly understand is your next instruction: "your computer should read your iphone as a camera, you can navigate to the folders that contain the picture in your camera roll and select all and delete."
Could you walk me through that, please?  Just a tiny bit more explaining, and I think I will catch on!
    Many thanks!

  • Best way to merge photos from different macs

What is the best way to merge photo libraries from different macs onto one mac?

The only way to merge Libraries - versions, metadata etc - is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
Other than that you will need to export from one Library to the Finder and then import to the other. This won’t get all the Metadata (for instance, Faces) and won't get the Versions either.

Tried using Find My iPhone and it's offline. It (Find my iPhone) was set up. What do I do now? Do I report it stolen? What is the best way in getting back my iPhone if any? Thank you in advance.

Find My iPhone is good for misplaced iPhone but not good for thief and it was never meant to be.
You chance of getting it back is very small.
There are a few things you can try.
Try remote lock/wipe your iPhone through Find My iPhone.
    https://www.icloud.com
You can report to the police, cell carrier (expensive cell charges for international calls, roaming etc)
Change all the passwords used in iPhone: Apple ID, E-mail, Bank Account ....
