Best way to rip dvd

what is the best way to rip dvds that have vob file format to make them mp3 or mp4

For personal content on DVDs (non copyright/non commercial footage), use MPEG Streamclip (freeware). For footage that is protected under copyright law, contact the copyright holder(s) and negotiate license to use the material and include that they provide a less compressed format as part of the negotiation.

Is that a question? What sort of DVD?  Keep in mind it it illegal to even discuss how to break encryption, let alone being a bad practice, and against the TOU of this forum.

  • What do you think is the best way to get DVDs onto your iPod?

I haven't recieved my video iPod yet, its coming in the mail, but I'd like to be ready when I get it. In your opinion, what is the best way to get DVDs onto your iPod?
I have Windows, so Handbreak doesn't work.
I've tried videora, but its taking ages...
    Thanks!
    *Just noticed you can edit*
I would also like to add that I would perfer that it was free...
Videora is driving me up a wall... It still has 3 hours to convert this thing its been going for 10 min and its still at 0%

Depending on the specs of your computer, time taken to convert DVD's to an iPod-playable format can vary. On my computer (see below), it takes about 10 hours to convert a 2-hour DVD to the iPod format, using Videora.
So, due to the extremely large size of the DVD rip, it'll take a while to convert it, regardless of how fast or slow your system is.

presuming they're not copywriteed commercial dvd's, you can use a program like Handbrake to convert the dvd files to mp4's that you can then import into iTunes and sync to your device.
If they're copywritted commercial dvd's then you'd have to break the copywrite encoding to transcode the files and since that is illegal in the US no one here can help you with that.

  • How do I import DVD to IMovie? What is the best way to import DVD to a Mac?

    Hi everyone!
I need some help, so here are my questions.
How do I import DVD to IMovie? What is the best way to import DVDs to a Mac?
I would like to keep the original quality from the DVD.
    Thx.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

  • Best way to rip from DVD

what is the best way or best software to rip from a dvd movie ?
im using handbreake im saving Avi file but when i go to FCP to work with the files it needs too much render what am i doing wrong ?

Are you dealing with a copy-protected DVD? If so, this is really an inappropriate place to be asking these questions? If not, use mpegstreamclip and export to a quicktime (DV ntsc or pal depending on which you want to work with).

  • What is the best way to rip movies to an external HD?

I am interested in ripping my DVD movies to an external HD so they are portable. This is in preparation for a military deployment to the middle east. I would like to take them all so I can enjoy them all while overseas. I am looking at a 1TB external HD. What is the best method to rip them? Do I need Software and and are there any special methods for performing the transfers?
    Any help would be appreciated!

we can not give instructions on how to rip copyrighted dvd's.  Don't blame us, blame the motion picture industry.

  • Best way to create DVD

I've exported a movie that I created in FCP 3 to a Quicktime file. I would like to burn the movie to a DVD that I can play on a DVD player. I've been trying to use iDVD 4, but its not recognizing the audio in my quicktime file. Is there another way to do this?

With all due respect, I fail to see how my comments are off the mark. iDVD has two settings... that to me is for consumers. How can any professional slice the art of compression into 2 settings? Compressor provides many more choices that a pro would probably use. And even Compressor isn't great as higher-lvl compression software, but at least its a start. The topic of this questions is BEST way to create a DVD, not the worst way, and clearly the BEST solution does NOT have iDVD in it. It's the same reason you don't edit in iMovie over FCP, it's the reason Windows users don't use MovieMaker. iDVD is a decent entry-lvl program, but frankly not cut out for anything above home video.

  • Best way to create DVD from videos from several events?

Hi all - I'm very new to iMovie and iDVD and was hoping for some advice. I'm making a compilation DVD "for the grandparents" of videos from a variety of the kids' events throughout the year. What's the best way to do this? By the way, I've switched to using iMovie HD but am still using iDVD '08. I've been prototyping a few things and came up with the following options:
Option 1: Create one iMovie HD project and import all the videos from the various events into one timeline. I then create the chapter markers as usual, then Share with iDVD.
Question: I want each of the event videos to return to the DVD Menu. How would I do that if all the videos have been combined into one timeline in iMovie HD?
Option 2: Create each event video under its own iMovie HD project. Export each video into .dv format (I don't know what the best format would be). In iDVD, insert each video.
Questions: Would I lose video quality going this route? If I wanted to create chapter markers within each event video, I assume I would lose them once I've exported to .dv format?
Which of the above would be a better option? Is there a better option?
    Thanks!

If you make changes to your iMovie project, the next time you open your iDVD project a pop-up will inform you that assets have been updated and asks if you want to update. Click update and your changes will be incorporated. As long as you haven't changed locations of your iDVD project and iMovie project, iDVD will point to the ongoing iMovie project. But if you move your iDVD project to another drive, or rename the iMovie project, iDVD will tell you that there are missing assets because it can't find your iMovie project. At least, that's what happens to me when I do that.
    Happy Turkey day!

  • What is the best program to Rip DVD with 5.1 audio for Mac Book

I just purchased a Macbook Pro and want to rip DVD's. I want to retain the 5.1 audio tracks. What is the best program for this? Thanks in advance for your suggestions

Sorry, but if you're referring to commercial and hence copy-protected video DVDs, breaking the copy protection, which would be necessary to copy the videos from the DVD and convert them, is illegal in the US (and other countries), so we're not allowed to discuss it here.   Some DVDs and Blu-Ray movies come with a "digital copy" that allows you to download a copy of the movie for use on computers. You might see if any of the DVDs you have come with such a feature.
If these are home movies that you or someone has burned to DVD and hence are not copy-protected, Handbrake (freeware) is one of the more popular converters. I'm not sure how it handles 5.1 audio, though, if it will at all.
    Regards.

  • Best way to trasfer dvd's?

what is the best way to download leagally bought music dvd's to my ipod? thanks

you could do it legally, in the USA. breaking copyright encryption is what's illegal there, not transferring a DVD's contents.
you would need to watch the DVD through a device with an authorized CSS decoder (eg. a standard DVD player) then capture and/or convert the analog content as it is sent to the rendering device.
as this method is lossy and might require hundreds of dollars in hardware and hours of time for every DVD, you may be inclined to seek out more palatable methods using a search engine. (assuming you live outside the US or are otherwise ethically OK with ignoring the US DMCA.)

  • Best way to put DVDs and videos on your ipod

I have found an awesome video converter for the new ipod. It can convert dvd and many other formats to the ipod format. It works well. You can change the settings on just about everything, including aspect ratio, video quality, audio quality (yes, you can change the settings for video and audio seperatly), video size, subtitles and many others. its avaible here: http://www.pqdvd.com/dvd-to-ipod-video-converter.html . Sorry, mac fans this is windows only (at least right now !) Its free to try or $35 to buy, yes its 5 bucks for than Quicktime pro, but it is way better and it acually works!

PQdvd did a decent job as far as I'm concerned, but I've found a few other methods that seem more reliable for ripping DVD's to Ipod.
My favorite (most reliable for voice/video synch and fastest overall) has been to use DVD decrypter to rip and Videora to transcode. Both are free programs (another plus), though the DVDdecrypter has been shut down by the powers that be. You'll have to look on a P2P or find someone who has it.....
The VERY simple directions are here:

So what is the best way making DVD after there took Encore a way ?

With Encore. They didn't take it away; they just made it end of life at CS6. This is the link for info re using Encore CS6 with CC, updated for CC 2014 and the cloud desktop install.

It has links for getting the library (which is not installed with Encore) and a workflow with CC versions.
