Best way to sell iMac

I have a new imac that is about 2 months old. While I really like it, I am looking to get a portable computer. I put it on criags list   but it seems like everyone wants a mac book. I do not blame them, but any suggestions on how to sell this for a fair price. I am tired of people asking for 700 dollars when this is a 1200 computer only 2 months old.

Leave it on Craigs List and make it clear low ballers will be ignored. Promote it with photographs and a good description of anything extra that comes with it such as software and/or AppleCare.
At the same time create an Ebay auction and price it based on what similar machines are selling it for.

  • Hi, what's the best way to replace IMAC 27'' glass when broken (latest Imac generation from end 2012) ?  Thanks,

Hi, what's the best way to replace IMAC 27'' glass when broken (latest Imac generation from end 2012) ?  Thanks,

Not sure about the 2012 models but the 2010 ones can be removed in seconds, using a suction cup on the top corner. I use my tomtom to lift it away. It is attached by magnets.
    Hope this helps.

  • Best way to connect iMac to TV

What's the best way to connect my iMac (2011) to my TV? My TV has HDMI inputs and my iMac has Thunderbolt ports, so I know I can connect them with a cable, but they are about 20 feet apart and I think that's too long for a cable run. Does anyone have suggestions?
    TIA,
    Thad

Get an Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and a 20 feet long HDMI cable.
There is no problem with the length, but a 25 feet HDMI cable will be around 20$ on eBay.
If you need to really go long distance, then you could get a HDMI over CAT6  extender.
This one will allow 130 feet.
Some models will let you extend up to 1000 feet!

What is the best way to connect a 2006 iMac to a 2013 iMac? ( Lion to Mountain Lion )
I have a TM on the older Mac. I understand using set-up is best. I cannot afford to lose
    Any data.

By Firewire. However, you will need a Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor from Apple to use on your new iMac.

  • Best way to manage iMac and two iPads?

Have a new iMac (Intel,OS X Lion) and two iPad 2.  The iMac is mine the and iPads are my kids. We all have our own apple IDs.  I ultimately want to do any downloading/purchasing on the iMac and then transfer the music/apps/movies to the iPads.
What is the best way to manage them so I can sync the iMac to the iPads?
Can I download apps/music etc. on my iMac and then sync it to both of the iPads?
Do I need to use the same Apple ID on all of them if I want to sync the iMac to the iPads?   I would prefer not to store credit card info on the kids iPads.
Whats the most efficient way to handle this?  Sorry for so many questions.  Its a hazard of being a newbie.
    Thanks, Courtney

The best way I can think of is for each iMac user create their own account for them. Then when they log in they can sync to their own AppleID account. It keeps things simple and separate. If you don't know how to create accounts please look over http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mtusr001.html

  • Best way to keep imac and mac book in sync?

I have an imac g5 and a macbook. I have made the initial transfer of all files from the desktop to the laptop. What is the best way to keep the two in sync, such as iTunes, iPhoto, etc? I'm sure this is a stupid question, but I need help!! Thanks in advance

    Check out the application called "SuperDuper!" at www, shirtpocket;
SD will 'clone' your Mac to your Macbook if you start the Macbook in Target mode.
You'll have 2 identical Macs with identical everything.
Now there's a start for you

  • Best way to bring IMac

Hey guys I bought a IMac G5 20" and now that I'm moving to the UK for school, what's the best way to bring it over....I was thinking aout putting it in the box and packing it my suit case but the box is to big! Now I was think about checking it in but then I'm worried about picking up and how everyone can just come by and pick it up.....is there another way? FEDEX/UPS the best way (do I have to pay duty?)? is there a case that I can use to bring it on the plane with me...help?

    SC,
I'm going to pipe in again on this subject, and what I say is probably going to elicit some contrary comments.
I can't count the number of times I've seen flight attendants (we haven't referred to them as stewardesses for about 30 years) throw or allow passengers to throw bags into a closet. Even if a particular F/A gives a coach passenger permission to use the closet for a computer, the other F/A's aren't going to know about the computer being in that location, and something could very well be thrown on top of your computer. Unless you can protect the screen against what would probably amount to a direct punch, it just isn't worth the risk.
Add to that the effort of lugging the heavy computer around, having it count as one of your 2 carry on items, extra charges incurred for excess items in the cargo bin, etc, etc, etc. Checking the computer as cargo bins its own risks, although IMHO less danger and trouble than carrying it on.
You PROBABLY could get away with taking the computer on the airplane with you, but the airline is NOT going to be liable for full damages if there is a problem.
My suggestion remains to pack the computer in the original box and Fed EX or UPS it. That's how it was probably shipped to you in the first place, and I'll guess it arrived in great shape.
    My 2 cents worth.

  • Best way to clean imac screen...

    Hi...
wondering the best way to clean the imac screen - first time i have had a lcd screen
    thanks

    Nick,
The user guide recommends that one dampen a lint free cloth with water and use it to clean the screen. There are a few commercial products that work well, including Monster iClean and iKlear. Be sure to avoid any product with alcohol or ammonia. Also, whether you use water or a cleaning product, spray the cloth, not the screen directly.

  • Best way to sell digital photos?

Is there a way to sell digital photos through iWeb? Or is there a way to add SmugMug to an iWeb template? I have plenty of experience with Paypal and eBay and whatnot, but digital downloads is new to me, and am not quite sure of where to start.

OK, since I last posted, here's what I've done...
In iMovie 08 (which I never use because I really don't want to learn anything new - I like iMovie HD and will stick with it) I managed to put the photos into a "movie" that is about 2 hours long (each photo shows on the screen for 4 sec. with a 1 sec. transition before and after it). Then I decided to add music, so I bought songs from iTunes and added them. Now I'm trying to burn it all to a DVD that will play on a computer where I work, which uses Windows as their OS. I can't figure out how to burn to a DVD, though. I tried opening the movie with iDVD, but it wasn't even an option. The movie title was grayed out so I couldn't select it. Now I'm exporting it to my desktop, where I can hopefully do more with it. Any suggestions on how to get this onto a DVD?
    Thanks again.

  • I downloaded a job application with Adobe.  What is your suggestion on editing it?  What is the best way on my iMac?

I downloaded a job application with Adobe.  What is your suggestion on editing this?  What is the best way or best program?  Thanks!

Simply, export the data from this esy share system to standard formats like jpeg, making sure to preserve all metadata on the way. How to do that? YOu'll need to post on a Kodak forum I'm afraid.
Then copy the files to the Mac and import them.

  • Best Way To Sell My Air?

256gb, i7, 8gb ram. 11" June 2012 model. Only 3 1/2 months old. I dont want to get less than $1000. Will any trade in place pay this much? Gazelle, Amazon, and Apple Recycle offer about $675. Waaaaay to low considering mine is like new. Im trying eBay but im nervous about it. Already posted in craiglist with only spam coming. What do you guys suggest?

Take high quality pictures, describe your product accurately, and most importantly, require signature confirmation upon delivery.
I would add to this take pictures and screenshots of the Mac's serial number. Post them in the listing. eBay buyer fraud - in which a perfectly good MacBook is sold but a different, water-damaged MacBook is returned - has been a growing problem for sellers recently.
    Do not offer return policy.
This is not possible. A seller must accept returns for anything "significantly not as described" which is exactly how the above buyer fraud operates. If the seller refuses to refund a buyer's money, eBay summarily seizes the PayPal assets and suspends the seller's account. For many selllers, PayPal places a 45 day hold on all funds received so they can't take a buyer's money and disappear.
Failure to include a return procedure will accomplish nothing except to dissuade potential buyers and significantly reduce the selling price.
Buyers don't just hold the upper hand on eBay, they hold the whole deck.

  • Best way to sell?

    Hello,
Ive been back in forth between upgrading to a blackbook and staying put with what I have and as I weigh my options I cant seem to decide what the best route would be for selling my old macbook. Unfortunately, none of my friends are interested in buying it so my options are limited to ebay, and a trade-in on powermax.com. Has anybody done a trade-in with them before? They have offered me 790$ for my macbook, but there is a 4 to 6 week inspection wait before they actually give you that money. Any help, input, or ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance.
    Joe

Actually, $800 for a used MacBook (provided it's a basic model) doesn't sound all that bad. I wouldn't be thrilled about having to give it to them today... and not getting the $$ for a month and a half though. I would imagine you would want that money to get your new MacBook. You could give them a perfectly good MacBook... and during that 6 week "inspection" period, who knows what they could do to it and claim there was a problem and offer you less. eBay isn't a bad option. To be honest... the other option, which may be best, is just keep what you have. Why are you looking to get a new MacBook?

  • Best way to let iMac rest?

I usually access my iMac G5 many times during the day, and when I am done, I put it into Sleep mode. But then, I sometimes have a need to come back to the computer a few minutes later, and rouse it from Sleep. I may do this quite often each day.
So my question is, is it harmful to be taking it out of Sleep mode a lot each day? I've thought that I should just leave it, and then perhaps put it to sleep at the end of the day just before bed.

Hi James - it's quite a common practice to let display sleep but never to let machine go into sleep mode. Many Mac users swear by this and do it on a 24/7 basis and is harmless to a healthy computer. What you're doing presently may do more harm than good, in my opinion...
Just go to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Sleep > set your display to sleep whenever you want and set computer to sleep on 'Never'... Rick

  • What is the best way to back up my imac

I am new to using an imac and wondered what is the best way to back the data up? Can I back it up to the cloud and if so how do I do this?

The first response pretty much covers it.  Time Machine is a great backup for restoring individual files or folders.  It can also be used as a full system restore, but you cannot boot from a TM backup and run the computer from it.  You can do that from a clone, which can be useful should your hard drive fail utterly.
I have a TM backup on one external drive, and I use bus powered portable external drives for clones.  I like thes as I can keep one offsite, and another one stays at home, but is in the firesafe except when being updated.
The two main cloning apps are Shirt Pocket Software's SuperDuper, and Bombich softeware's CarbonCopyCloner, both very reasonably priced.  Note that CCC will work over a network, while SuperDuper will not - other than that they have very similar features, including automatic update scheduling.

Of course you can buy drives at all sorts of places (Amazon, Newegg, TigerDirect,...) but a good place that services Apple computer users specifically is Other World Computing (http://www.macsales.com/) who also sell some very good quality drives and external enclosures.

  • Best way to prepare an iMac for sale?

I have a 2007 24" iMac I would like to sell. I had upgraded it to 4 GB of RAM and it is running Mavericks. I would like to offer it with Mavericks installed. What's the best way to "reset it all" so my stuff is all cleared out, and the new owner will be able to go through setup and set their own username and settings?
    Thanks,
    doug

see What to do before selling or giving away your Mac - Support - Apple
However you will not be able to sell it with Mavericks you will have to install the original OS (or the last OS you bought on DVDs).
The license for the App Store versions of Apple software does not allow you to transfer it. It is tied to your Apple ID and for the new user to use it (even if it was legal to transfer it) you would have to give them you Apple account.
