Best way to start with Jheadstart

Well,
I have another simple question,
Presently, I have Jheadstart and Jdeveloper running and I have made sample apps using the wizard interface which are great work done by Oracle.
Now, I am going to ground zero and need to start developing some of the customized screens in JSP or UIX(which one do you prefer from start?) and need to know where to start. Should I develop some of the customized screens using the templates and JSP/UIX files Jheadstart generates and customize them based on my needs? Wouldn't Jheadstart overwrite these screens if I customize them?
1) Should we stay with the Model-View Controller ADF/Struts approach?
2) Since we are starting from scratch, are we better off to just use UIX from scratch.
3) Will Jheadstart write over our customized files?
Thank you for all your answers so far because I think we have something to look forward to.

I'd recommend this book and INE's videos. Also please note that Nexus is in the Data Center track, not the Service Provider.

  • The best way to start with JDeveloper

    Can anybody tell me what the best way is to start using JDeveloper? Besides Oracle Manuals, are there other ones? Thanks for responding!!

    It would be nice if you can specify what is your background. Which tools/languages you used before?
    If you don't know Java pick up a Java book that will teach you the basics and the syntax.
    A good free online book is : http://www.mindview.net/Books/TIJ/
    Then use JDeveloper to do the code samples in the book.
    Use this tutorial to understand the basic of the JDeveloper IDE:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/10131/introide/introjdevide.htm
    Then once you got the basics you should probably try out the ADF tutorial to see how you build a complete Web application that interacts with a database:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/learnadf.html
    This page also contains the ADF Developer Guide book.
    In addition the JDeveloper home page has links to more demos tutorials and how-to's:

  • Best way to start with Aperture, importing thousands of images at once?

    I'm evaluating Aperture 2 on my MacBook for my DAM workflow going forward - right now I'm using the Bridge application paired with Photoshop and Adobe Camera RAW on my PC. I find the DAM and sorting functionality to be challenging/lacking/not intuitive for me under Bridge and I've been using it for years at work and home.
    In taking a look at the trial of Aperture, I've tried the obvious thing of trying to import all images on my system under the Pictures directly, but it really doesn't like to do that. I know there are a few thousand in the JPEG directory and a few thousand in the RAW directory, but it still doesn't add up to the 10,000 limit (or was that 100,000?) that it complained about when I pulled up the program for the first time and simply tried to have it import the media on my entire hard drive.
    I really don't like using Picassa, but I do like the fact that it found all the images on my hard drive for me, and allows me to do basic searches and image tweaks. There really should be a simple way for a photographer to set Aperture up with the existing (legacy? pre-Aperture?) image base which he's already collected. I have almost ten years worth of images that I want to go through and I seriously do not want to go through each and every day's worth of images (folder by folder) for ten years without some sort of automated process to go through them and pull them in.
    Any ideas? Any plugins? I realize that, going forward, if I choose Aperture as my primary DAM and initial tweaker, as opposed to say Lightroom, I'll have the Automator tools to pull down images from my various cameras and place them into projects automatically.
    Also, just wanted to mention that Aperture has crashed a few times on me and even, once, deleted my entire Picture library (even though it claimed in the message it would only delete the links to the images, not the images themselves). Luckily, I'm insane with my backups, and was able to restore to a point prior to the Aperture "catastrophe" in a few minutes...but still. I want to be able to trust my programs and it lost a few points there....
    Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!

    I think what you're looking for is File >> Import >> Folders into a Project. The top level folder will be imported as a project, and sub folders will create albums within that Project.
    With that many images, I would choose the option to keep the images in their current location. (Unless that location is a hard drive formatted FAT32.)
    If you have side car files, most of the IPTC metadata will come along, but not ratings.
    I don't recommend placing the whole thing into one big project. You can keep the organizational structure you have in the finder in your Aperture Library if you do a little planning.
    All that being said, do it in chunks not all at once.

  • Good way to start with the learning the 11g concepts

    Hi,
    I have a work experience on the BEA weblogic server 8.1 sp4 on which i have worked for about 2 year now. My current assignment requires working with the Installation/ Development and deployment in the Fusion middleware 11g server. Could some body please suggest me a good way to start with the learning the 11g concepts.
    I understand that all the documentations are available in the Oracle forum, but i want to understand where to start from.
    my core tasks in the assignment would be
    1. installation (OSB on top of WLS).
    2. development/configuration on OSB.
    3. Deployment and administrative tasks.
    regards,
    Prakhar

    Hi thanks for the update. I have been going through the links and found them very useful.
    I have few new doubts.
    In all the tutorials for getting started with the Fusion middleware, the examples which are given use the Oracle JDeveloper extensively. This IDE is used for implementing the BEPL and other important aspects. I found this very similar to the Workshop IDE initially bundled with the BEA-Weblogic 8.1. Is JDeveloper enhanced to accomodate the features of the Weblogic Workshop IDE?
    Also, i need some information regarding the Eclipse IDE which is bundled with the OSB installation. Are there any tutorials available which show how to use the Eclipse IDE with OSB.
    Also, can the Eclipse IDE be used to implement the same set of components which are being developed using the JDeveloper in the tutorials.
    My concern here is i want to know the best way to start with the training/development. I am already familiar with the Eclipse IDE and donot want to switch to the JDeveloped unless it is absolutely necessary. Can one of these IDE be used repeacebly in place of other.
    Please inform me if in case my wuestion is not clear.

  • Best way to start on capture with no timecode?

    To my dismay, I quickly discovered that my cam didn't have its timecode set correctly. Therefore, when I captured, I got a HUGE continuous clip.
    1. What is the best way to work with this mammoth clip? I'd love to be able to quickly and manually cut each scene change into separate clips, the way auto detect would have done, so it's more manageable. But if not, how should I start to manage the clip? I'm a former PC Pinnacle Studio amateur, so be gentle.
    2. I tried adding a fade in on the front of the clip, and I can't lengthen it from 1/10 second, even if I try to drag over the right side. How do I make it X seconds?
    Thanks, FCE community!

    You can still make suclips if you like. Search for start/stop points manually or just break it up to say 5 minute intervals. eg:
    Move the playhead in the Viewer 5 minutes in, hit the M key. Move the playhead another 5 mins, hit the M key and so on. You end up with a bunch of markers manually placed instead of the auto DV detection style, same deal.
    Modify>Make Subclips using the method as already discussed then work with the subbies.
    Due to FCE being non-destructive you can also put the one large clip in the Viewer.
    Set an in/out point, then edit to the Timeline. Only the bit between the in/out point is edited into the Timeline.
    Go back to the Viewer, set a new in/out point then edit to the Timeline on so on.
    This method allows for handles so transitions will work OK. Using the subclip method you will need to set in/out points to each subclip if you wish to have transitions with them.
    Personally, I'd use the later method.

  • Best way to start a new catalog for 2009 ?

    Hi,
    What's the best way to start a new catalog for the new year, with all the keywords and all the presets of the modules (without having to export all the folders) of previous catalog 2008 ?
    Thanks,
    Dominique

    Well there is a cost too in not being able to find all your images in a single step, and inconsistencies soon develop - eg a keyword is plural in one catalogue, singular in another. Speed or stability issues are not simply related to catalogue size, and I've seen decently-performing catalogues 50% bigger than yours (as well as slow ones of a few hundred images). Have you optimized the catalogue recently?
    But if you think it's a good idea to fragment control of your picture collection.... Presets will be carried over to a new catalogue as they belong to the machine (unless you have the save with catalogue preference turned on). Keywords can be moved via the Metadata > Export and Import Keywords command. If you have lots of collections and smart collections, then maybe make a copy of your existing catalogue and then remove all the items from it - making sure you don't trash them of course.

  • Need Best way to start learning Oracle 11g  DBA

    Hi.This is Tejaswi.
    I want to learn Oracle 11g DBA.I've downloaded all software's and Documentation for Orcl 11g R2. Now. i want to start Learning DBA. Can any one suggest me the best way to Start learning DBA?
    Please suggest me the good books For Oracle Architecture and SQL.......

    Hello Tejaswi,
    The advice you got about reading the Oracle Concepts and 2 Day DBA documentation is very good advice.
    I found that knowing some SQL*Plus and SQL Developer was also very helpful as, they both provide a way to interface with the database and try the things you read about. For SQL Plus, I used the book:
    Oracle SQL*Plus: The Definitive Guide, 2nd Edition
    By Jonathan Gennick
    Publisher : O'Reilly
    ISBN : 0-596-00746-9 I openly recommend it. It is easy to read, the book is very well thought out, it covers what you really need to know (and more too). The author explains the subjects very well. I would definitely learn some SQL Plus and SQL developer before getting into the 2 Day DBA document (make those 2 days about 7 days each if not more).
    To learn SQL, I "sort of" used (I say "sort of" because I only read some parts of it available online and at the local bookstore):
    Oracle SQL by Example
    By Alice Rischert
    Publisher: Prentice Hallit probably has more SQL than you'd need as a DBA but, it is an excellent book you may want to consider.
    If you are starting from scratch, as I did, you'll find that you need to learn multiple things at the same time. I believe SQL Plus is the best place to start, along with possibly the Concepts document. That will give you a base to build upon.
    HTH,
    John.

  • Please suggest me the best way to start learning about Oracle Purchasing.

    Hi,
    I have started reading about Oracle Procurement. I have an over all idea of how ERP functions. Anyhow I am like a fresher to ORACLE APPS. Can you pleasesuggest me what is the best way to start learning about Oracle Purchasing.
    Is it is throuhg user guides or some thing else..... can you please specify the references also.......
    Thank you so much.

    If you have a sponsorship, I would recommend taking classes with Oracle University. The other resources are documentation, functional and technical depending on what your interests are.
    If you can load Vision database or access vision database (I think solutionbeacon offers a free account to login and play around), that will be another resource as well.
    As you learn, join as much user groups like this one, and review all questions and answers in the discussions to understand and learn more.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sysctl.conf - best way to start at boot?

    Hi all!
    My arch box serves as firewall/router to other boxes on my home network. Obviously, I have to use NAT and net.ipv4 forwarding set to 1 (via sysctl.conf file).
    My question is: what's the best way to start sysctl at boot, so those kernel variables are set (forwarding, syncookies etc.)?
    Currently, I've:
    - put my little script with "sysctl -p" line in rc.d directory;
    - call that script from rc.conf;
    - sysctl.conf is in /etc .
    It works... but, I wander what is the better/proper way of doing it.

    Thanks aCoder.
    With some other distros, it would be done automatically (sysctl at boot). User just needs to set values of the sysctl.conf file.
    With Arch, both steps are manual - and I didn't know any better way. In other hand, that's what Arch is about, eh!
    Cheers,
    mladen

  • What is the best way to deal with different audio sample rates on the same timeline ?

    what is the best way to deal with different audio sample rates on the same timeline ?

    You don't have to do anything special. If possible, start your project with a clip that has the desired target frame rate and audio sample rate, and your project parameters will be set automatically. Other sample rates will be converted under the covers.
    For example, if your video is shot at 48khz, you can add music files at 44.1khz with no problem.
    If you are recording audio that you want to synch with video (multicam), you will get best results if everything is 48khz, but you can use 44.1 if that is all you have. Once I forgot to reset my Zoom to 48,000 and it still worked.

  • What is the best way to work with Word documents in The InDesign CS4???

    I work in Microsoft Word 2007 and all my documents have *.doc format.
    What is the best way to work with Word documents in InDesign CS4???
    David Blatner says to avoid copying and pasting text from Word instead of placing it (Ctrl+D).
    How about pasting RTF or Text Document???
    I want to make book's layout in ID CS4 and its main feature is that there is the left page with text and the right - with graphics.
    So, as I understand to place the text on each page I must create for example 70 Word documents and place each item on 70 left pages???
    It loks like wasting time. I sthere another way of making such layout???  What kind????

    It's best to place any text.
    You can have all of your text in one file and use auto-flow to add threaded text frames and pages as required (Hold down the Shift key when you click the loaded text cursor), but it's a little non-standard to have the thread only on one side of the spread from the auto-flow perspective, so you'll have to set up properly.
    This is one case where a master text frame will work to your advantage. On your master page spread, add a text frame to the left page, but not to the right (or at least not threaded to one on the right -- for some other project you might actually want two independent text threads). Hold the loaded cursor over a frame on the left side of a document page and auto-flow. ID will add new spreads as necessary, but only put the text on the left side.

  • How is the best way to deal with duplicate photos

    I am using a new retina 27" iMac 16gb ram OS X 10.10.1
    Aperture 3.6
    What is the best way to deal with duplicates that get in Aperture Vaults
    I have used Gemini and it finds duplicates, but I have no way of telling if the original are still there.
    I don't want to go through 15000 photos to try to find the duplicate.
    Thanks Charlie

    You mean - one image in a vault, one in a library?  Or duplicates in the same library?
    Photo Sweeper can scan several libraries or folders at the same time and display the duplicates side by side to let you pick which to keep.  You can define rules to mark photos for automatic deletion as well.

  • What's the best way to deal with floating point errors?

    What's the best way to deal with the decimal number errors in Flex?
    Lets say I have:
    var number1:Number = 1.1;
    var number2:Number = 1;
    var result:Number = number1 - number2;
    trace(result);
    I get "0.10000000000000009".
    What's the best way to deal with this so that i get the right result?
    Using the trick: result = Math.round( result * Math.pow(10,13) ) / Math.pow(10,13); is not useful as such when using big numbers.
    For example, If number1 = 100000000001.1, and number2 = 0.2, I get "100000000000.90001" as result. The previous rounding fixes rounding errors after 13th decimal, but here the first rounding errors come after 4 digits.
    The toPrecision method in Number and NumberFormatter dont seem be of use by themselves because of the same reason.
    So I'd have to check how big the number is, and then round the number based on that.
    So far I've constructed a method that does that with logarithms like this:
    public function floatFix(number:Number):Number{
          var precision:int = 14-Math.floor(Math.log(Math.abs(number))*Math.LOG10E);
          var precisionFactor:Number = Math.pow(10, precision);
          return Math.round(Number(number*precisionFactor))/precisionFactor;
    It just seems rather odd that one would have to create and use something like that to just count 1.1-1; There's a lot of calculating in that method, and i'm guessing that having to use that in a loop could slow down a program quite a bit.
    I think there really should be a pre-built method in flex for something like this, but I can't find any.
    Anyone know any better/faster ways?

    Use the application server database pooling services to create a datasource that can be access using JNDI.
    Move the database access code to a Servlet so that a JSP submits a form to the Servlet that does the database access and packages the data into a bean which is passed to another JSP to be displayed.

    It seems to be that the best way to deal with Mutating Table exception(s) is to have to put all the trigger code in a package & use it in conjunction with a Statement level trigger .
