  • Best way to store video's in itunes

    Hi All,
Just wanted to get some thoughts on what you feel is the best way to store music videos in itunes.
    Would you either:
    1. Have music videos that come with CD’s tagged and retained in the same album with the music.
    Eg
    Track 1 of 3 – Audio
    Track 2 of 3 – Audio
    Track 3 of 3 – Music Video
    or
    2. Have music videos stored under their own “album”. That is, Track 3 above not linked to the audio tracks on the same CD, so that you effectively create an “album” with all your music videos.
I know either way will do, but wanted to know what way was working well for the masses!
    Thanks

  • HT1364 I just bought a new PC and now have ample space on my C drive to house my music Library which is currenlty installed on a external drive.  What is the best way to install and move the itunes library to my C Drive?

I just bought a new PC and now have ample space on my C drive to house my music Library which is currenlty installed on a external drive.  What is the best way to install and move the itunes library to my C Drive?

If the entire library is on the external drive then simply copy the iTunes folder into <User's Music> on the new computer, then install iTunes. If you've already installed iTunes you will want to remove the empty iTunes folder in <User's Music> first.
If it turns out you only have the media folder on the external drive then take a look at this post...

  • Best way to convert home movie VHS tapes so they can be edited in iMovie HD

Please help! I'm sorry this question is going to be long, but I'm a novice at this.
My goal is to get my VHS home movies (I have about 30 of them) into iMovie so I can do two things.
First I want to burn DVD's so I'll have a copy of the VHS tapes before they go bad.
Secondly, I want to be able to extract small clips from all of the tapes and combine them in a new iMovie project.
Here's what I've done so far:
I purchased a Canopus ADVC110 and got someof my VHS tapes converted digitally but the file sizes were HUGE and eating up my hard drive space. I was down to 6 GB of space left on my hard drive and almost crashed my Mac.
I deleted all these huge files and got my Mac back up to having 111 gigs of space left. Whew!
This week I purchased a Pinnacle converter and started all over. I took a VHS tape, and it was compressed into a nice small Mpeg-4 file and went to iTunes.
Then I tried to drag and drop it from itunes to imovie. That didn't work. I then dragged the movie to my desktop and then dragged it to imovie..... looks like this was going to take a long time to get into imovie. I'm thinking this is too many steps.
Now I am importing the file into iMovie by importing directly from itunes. The file size is 1.04 GB and it is 1 hour and 54 minutes long. It is taking a loooong time to import this movie....like 100 minutes.
I am afraid I am doing this the hard way.
Plus, after reading all the discussion boards and all the problems people are having... I don't even know if I'll be able to successfully edit this movie once it's imported. Plus, after I've edited it (if I can) will I be able to transfer the clips to another iMovie project?
I'm happy with the file size that the Pinnacle converter is giving me. I'm happy with the way the movie appears in itunes.
Because I have **so many VHS tapes** to convert, I'm asking you all if there is an easier way for me to complete this task!
Thanks in advance for any advise. Keep in mind that I'm not tech-sophisticated..... just a middle aged Grandma trying to preserve memories of my family!

    _Share" the highlight as suggested_
Thanks Lennart..... I'm not sure I know what you meant by the above.
Do you mean that I share the little clips I want to use in the 'best of project'?
I read the MacWorld article.... it's great thanks!
I want to keep all these converted movies on my hard drive because down the road I want to extract other clips from them so I can make a 'best of' movie for my other family members. I may want to do that next year.... or whatever..... so I want to have the imovies available for me when that time comes.
In order to do this am I going to have to buy a lot..... and I mean ALOT of extra hard drive space? That darn Canopus was really making files for me that were like 60-80GB's per one half hour movie!!
Hey, I really appreciate all the time you are spending with me on this topic. Making these imovie memories are so very important to me.

  • Best way to store movies from iTunes

I have several movies I purchased from iTunes on my computer. Now I want to free up some space on my hard drive. What is the best way to store them off my computer so I can access them again in the future?

I believe you can do Back up to Disc and burn them as Data Discs. (Be sure to check your burning preferences first.) You won't be able to view them from the burned discs, but you can use them to restore to your library. Burning the movie itself....I doubt you can get it to fit on one CD. Another option would be to invest in an external drive. I hear they're pretty affordable.

  • How do you move pictures to an external drive to open space on the Mac hard drive? Or what is the best way to store photos safely?

How do you move pictures to an external drive to open harddrive space? Or what is the best way to store large photo files? Ive tried copy/cut and paste and it doesnt work. I have nothing on my Mac but photos and its telling me startup disk is too full to download updates.

Are the photos being stored in iPhoto now?
How is the external disk formatted?

  • What is the best way to share HD movies?

I am thinking of moving from digital8 recording to HD (leaning toward HDD or SD instead of miniDV as the later seems to be getting obsolete). Now I can burn a DVD to give to low-tech family members. It does not sound like I will be able to burn HD DVD's, so what will be the best way to share home videos with family members?
Also for archiving purposes, is it easy to hook up a "backup hard-drive" to store family movies for posterity?

Personally, I use MobileMe and let my family watch the movies on line. It is easy to share this way. I share the movie in Large (960x540) or Medium to iTunes. Then I share to Mobile Me.
For personal viewing, I use the Apple TV.
You can also burn a data DVD of your finished movie, and let them copy the file to iTunes from their data DVD.
You can upload the movie to other video sharing services such as YouTube or Vimeo.
You can burn a blu-ray disk if you have Toast and a BluRay burner. You can burn a short movie to regular DVD media using Toast and a regular DVD burner that is playable on most BluRay Players.

  • Best way to store tv shows when in Ireland

    Hi all,
I just bought an iMac and a WD My Book Live. The first cause my old laptop when to the great binary cloud in the sky, the second cause I want to be able to consolidate my media. Over the years I have ripped by CDs and DVDs so when the time came I could stream all my media through out my house and devices.
Because I will be using the Mac primarily for the forseeable future, I have  moved my music and movies into their respective iTunes folders. I have started to move my TV shows. But when you add the folder in iTunes I am still only getting the lovely iStore Advert telling me to start looking.
Is it because my store is the Irish iTunes Store?
So does anyone have some advice as the best way to store my TV Shows and get them to show in iTunes.
    Cheers,
    Adanmh

    Thanks for your help.
emeraldthree - I have tried adding the folders by two ways to no avail:
Dragging the folders from Finder to my Library
By clicking File > Add to Library
    Nothing Happens either way.
Chris CA -  By the "lovely advert" I mean the screen shown when I have added my TV show files and I click on the TV Shows  Link in my iTunes Library I get
The videos also don't show in my Movies area either. But are there in my TV Shows Folder on the Media Drive.
Is this the best way to store my TV Shows to get them to show in iTune?
    Thanks

  • Can I share a home movie in itunes without home sharing?

I Would like to share a home movie in itunes from my iPhone to another iPhone that is out of state

You can only sync an iOS device to one computer at a time.  It has always been that way.  There are alternatives; you could use DropBox or email to send the file, or you could put it on a USB stick and transfer it to your mother's computer and then sync it to her iPad from there.

  • Best way to store digital images?

I have all of my digital images for personal and business loaded in my home pc (Windows XP, sorted in a Kodak Easyshare program). Recently purchased a laptop. All of my information from the PC was transferred/copied onto the laptop. However, I want to store the images on something separate from the laptop. Approximately 10GB worth of images.
What is the best way to store them for easy access to view and copy/print or for uploading to a site to print out pix for photo albums, etc.
    Thanks!

The best way to store your images is to get a high-capacity flash memory device, preferably an SDHC card because they have a lock switch that prevents writing when the card doesn't need to be written to, and use that to archive your files. Simply keep it inside a memory card case in a safe place, such as a personal lock-box, and you're good to go. You can take that card to any photo kiosk or someone's home to do whatever you want to with the files.
Good point, I'm so ingrained against that particular solution due to the sheer amount of images I have (I can easily fill up an 8GB SDHC in 1-2 days when airshow season rolls around, plus I have an HD camcorder that takes about 8GB/hour), but since the OP only has 10GB total, making copies to 2-3 16GB SDHC cards and storing them in safe places would be an excellent approach.  Choose one location (maybe the desktop or the laptop's hard drive) as a "master" and periodically back up to all the SDHCs.
Just make sure to choose a "master" storage location or you'll go insane trying to keep things synchronized.
Online storage solutions such as Dropbox and similar services might also be an option for only 10GB of data.

  • Best way to store, present en input date/time

    Hi!
I hope I can make myself clear. I'm designing an APEX application that has a couple of different date-type fields. That application is going to be translated in two different languages, that has different date/time representations. For example: dd-mon-yyyy hh12:miAM and dd-mm-yyyy hh24:mi. I'm now finding out what's the best way to store those date/time fields and hou I can present them in a report/form and how the user can enter them in a field.
    This is what I see:
    - I can set an application date format/application timestamp format. This has to be the in the format of the main language, in this case, English.
    - I also can make translated versions of the application. QUESTION: can I enter a different date format for the translated application?
Do I have to make my fields of the date type or timestamp type?
I hope someone can answer. If I'm not clear, please tell me!

You can set the application date format using an application item
    &DATE_FORMAT_MASK.
    and set this item dynamically.

  • Best way to store app properties

I need to port web application to WebLogic.
Old one use couple of ".config" files stored with .class file in same
    directory
(so, by getting from system properties "classpath" and scanning trough all
directories ".config" files can be found and loaded)
on weblogic it doesn't work any more.
    So, I'm thinking about:
    1. how to make it accessible from some place related to weblogic home
(app can be deployed on servers with weblogic on different directories. so,
    I can't use absolute path )
2.That is best way to store such stuff? (For future or just rewrite app)

    Privet
You can store trivial properties in web.xml (context-param, init-param).
If your app requires .config files you can package them with application
classes and use Class.getResource...(...) to access them (class should be
one of your applications classes loaded by WAR classloader), or place them
in the WEB-INF/ directory and use ServletContext.getResource...("/WEB-INF/xxx.config").

  • Is there a way to search for movies on iTunes that have subtitles?

Is there a way to search for movies on iTunes that have subtitles?
I know if you look at any individual movie, it will say CC and below that, it will tell you if closed captioning is available in English or another language. I'm just wondering if there is some way to search for all the movies that have this available since many of them don't.

The best solution I've come across so far is to dump all movies into a shareware app called iVI. It'll show whether each movie has subtitles or not.

  • What is the best way to store and search 2D data

    Hi,
There is a set of data (~10k records ) in 2D dimension.
    like this :
    Col 1, Col 2, Col3....
What is the best way to store and search those records ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Either userObjet[][] if you know how much data you have, and the data size is fixed, or use a list of lists. E.g. A Vector of Vectors (some will probably say that you should use an ArrayList instead, and that could be the case, but it sounds like you would want to display the data later on, and a DefaultTableModel (for JTables) uses a Vector as data holder).

  • What's the best way to store my info externally

I have recently bought my first Macbook Pro 13" with 2.4 Ghz. I am currently using it for my own business and do tend to get a lot of files together. I went to look at "About this Mac" and have already got 369 Gb used up in storage... I have no idea how I have done that as I have hardly downloaded any apps on this computer besides the ones that were on here. I did download Vware Fusion 4 as I have a reservation system which I used to run on my pc and need to have this on here too so perhaps that software takes a lot of space.
Could anyone advise on which is the best way to store my info externally, will any external harddrive do, or do you need a special one for Apple or Macbook pro. I am just asking as I have no idea and prefer to buy the right one straight away.
Any help would be much appreciated !
    Thanks, Sara***

    Sara,
The most reliable method is to use an external hard drive.  Some are better than others, but most will work.
For the least amount of setup pain, I prefer to deal with the Mac specialists at OWC, http://www.macsales.com as they stand behind their products with great warranty and support.  I have one of their Mercury Elite Pro 2 TB drives that has multiple interface capability so you can get a fast interface for data transfer.
Take a look at what they offer and see what fits your needs.  If you have more questions about doing thin, just ask on here.
