I have a shared external drive on my AEBS at home that I keep my iTunes library on, music, movies, tv shows, etc. I want all my media to be available to my Apple TV.
On my MacBook Pro, I need be able to sync my iPhone calender, email, non media type stuff while I am at work, but also want to be able to sync my music to my iPhone when I am connected at home.
Is there a way to setup the iTunes on my MacBook Pro to work like this?

The only way to do this is to correct the problem in Premiere & re-encode the whole thing, making sure you use a different name.

Best way to deal with this color issue?

I exported an hour long sequence from ppro to blu-ray though media encoder and it took a few hours.
Now I discovered one of my clips (3 seconds long) in my original PPro sequence, has a color imbalance and
naturally that has been carried over into my file for encore.
Since I didn't use dynamic link, what is the most efficient way to fix this?
Is there a way to edit in encore?
Is there a way to just export that one clip from ppro and combine it into the original file on the encore timeline?
Is it possible to an additional video track in encore and place that clip above the 1st video track?
If the above is not possible, than the best way might be to export just that chapter from ppro, then in Encore, make it a new timeline, trim original timeline to that chapter containing the fix clip point, then make end action from original timeline to new timeline. Finally, make a third timeline with the original sequence that starts after the fixed chapter point, and link to it.
I'm trying to avoid having to re-export the entire hour long sequence again.

The only way to do this is to correct the problem in Premiere & re-encode the whole thing, making sure you use a different name.

My Acrobat has stopped working. I have the CS6 Master Collection. I have had this happen before and I had to reinstall by whole suite. Is this stil the best way to deal with this?

I have tried to use "Pages" and find it difficult. However, I have not taken the time to go through the tutorials. I'm used to Word and don't really want to take the time to learn another word processing program unless it is superior to Word. Should I download Microsoft Word or should I learn how to use "Pages". You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.

Lets say I have:

var result:Number = number1 - number2;

I get "0.10000000000000009".
What's the best way to deal with this so that i get the right result?
Using the trick: result = Math.round( result * Math.pow(10,13) ) / Math.pow(10,13); is not useful as such when using big numbers.
For example, If number1 = 100000000001.1, and number2 = 0.2, I get "100000000000.90001" as result. The previous rounding fixes rounding errors after 13th decimal, but here the first rounding errors come after 4 digits.
The toPrecision method in Number and NumberFormatter dont seem be of use by themselves because of the same reason.
So I'd have to check how big the number is, and then round the number based on that.
So far I've constructed a method that does that with logarithms like this:

What is the best way to work with AVCHD 720 24p footage in FCE4.1?

Hi I have a Panasonic HMC-150 and I've been shooting 720 24p footage at 21 mbps transfer rate.
I was wondering what is the best way to work with this material in FCE 4.1? I see that in the easy set up menu they only have the option of 1440X1080i at 50 or 60 fps or 1920X1080i at 50 or 60 fps.
Also in the rates drop down menu there is only 50 or 29.97.
So I was wondering which is the best choice for 720 24p footage and will it look alright in any of them? Also is it possible to customize these settings?
And finally can you work with faster transfer rates (21mbps) in FCE?

Yikes, this is going to be tricky since FCE does not support native 24p editing.
The work around for some of us is that AVCHD material that is 24p is often recorded to disc at 60i using telecine, in which case it can be editing at 29.97 frames per second, and then detelecined afterward for final export at 23.98 fps. The problem is that I think your camera actually records real 24p - not 24p packed into 60i. When you import the material from the camera what does QuickTime report the framerate as?

Ok just to recap (thanks for being patient by the way)...I have put some questions in here...feel free to write in caps to respond and we'll put this baby to rest!
1) I will work in a 1080p FCP sequence, correct?
2) HD 1080p footage captured as applepro res hq I will leave as is and work with?
3) HD 720p footage which was captured as applepro res hq. Can I just drop in 1080 timeline and let FCP do its work? Or should i run through compressor, if so what setting shall I submit it too?
4) I dont have a budget for an external hardware to convert SD to HD...should I capture my SD Beta through Final Cut and just leave and let FCP do its work? Or should I run through compressor? If so what setting shall I submit it too?
5) For for my master sequence in FCP am I not using an I-Frame format apple pro res if I am using my apple pro res hq 1080 footage as my formatted sequence? I am not sure what you mean by GOP?
6) I also found some 60p footage 1080p XDCAM compressor shot with the same XDCAM camera. I put in the 1080p 24p timeline but it was pretty choppy...any ideas of this conform?

Saying what CODECS you are working with was my question. 1080, 720, 4:3...really says nothing. There are a dozen 1080 codecs, another dozen 720 codecs, and nearly 100 4:3 formats.
Best to capture all the footage to one uniform codec.
Second best is to work with one format and let FCP conform the rest to that...IF and only IF that format is an I-Frame format like ProRes. GOP formats as master sequence formats cause TONS of issues.
What I'd do is work 1080 ProRes, just add the 720p footage (Use Compressor to convert it if you didn't have a lot, but if you had a lot, just add it), but I'd capture all the SD 4:3 footage via a Kona 3 or Matrox MXO2 as 1080 ProRes. Hardware conversion of SD to HD is much better than anything FCP can do. AE might do good as well. But then use Compressor to convert 29.97 footage captured (you can't convert 29.97 to 23.98 when you capture) to get to 23.98.

As you probably know by now, DVD camcorders are not compatible with FCE or pretty well any other DV based editing system.
Possibly the simplest (though not cheapest) route would be by using an Analogue-Digital converter.
Streamclip and other similar programs are supposed to work but I have had no experience with them.
In the long run probably the best (but costly) solution would be to buy a Mini-DV camcorder - it doesn't have to be a top of the range model - even the cheapest ones can produce high quality video. Then you would not have to mess around converting DVD files with the inevitable loss of quality it entails.
A cheap DV camera need be not much more expensive than an A/D converter.

On the android devices in the Account section of your OS settings, please make sure that the account is not listed under "Firefox Sync (deprecated)" this is the old sync. Firefox for Android may need to be reinstalled and the Firefox Sync (depricated) account removed from the device.
NOTE: DO NOT do this if there is data on the devices that have not obviously synced yet. An alternative is to visit accounts.firefox.com to see if you are logged into the device on the new sync sign in page.

Why ON EARTH would I want to do this?? Come on Apple, copy protection aside, this is the stupidest prompt in the history of prompts.
The basic problem (if you Google it) that many many many many legitimate purchaser's of music are running into is this prompt. And here is why:
1. We have an iPhone with a bunch of purchased songs on it and was at one point working with another iTunes library.
2. For whatever reason our computer crashes, the computer is gone/sold, not available, dead, pick your poison, it happens.
3. We setup a new computer and install iTunes and get a prompt to "Authorize" this computer (apparently we get 5 authorizations total).
4. We try to get all the songs from our iPhone back into iTunes and click the Sync button and ...
5. We get the following:
The iPhone "Your iPhone's name" is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?
An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library.
Really? This is what I have to do, wipe out all my purchased songs so that iTunes and sync with a new library? At what point did Apple think this idea was even remotely in the best interest of their customers? Seriously?
So now I'm stuck with an iPhone with songs on it, a computer with songs on it, but neither able transfer songs ... Happy Happy Joy Joy. This is NUTS!? Why punish people that you can verify they've purchased their songs with this bizarre scheme ... and further more, what if some of my songs on my iPhone were brought in from a valid CD purchase?
So my only way out of this craziness, is to use a 3rd party app that will hack the transfer for me? This is good how? I'm sorry, but at what point did Apple's $40 Billion (yes Billion) profit for 2012 instigated this sort of treatment to valid paying customers?

No you need a third party tool that will copy your other non-iTunes purchased media and photos not in the cameral roll across to your computer. (Some are listed, you can search the web for others).

After you have backed up this data to the computer you can then immediately restore the recently made backup to the iPhone. Am I the only one that thinks this is the most crazy and bizarre process of simply moving a music file from one of my devices to another of my devices? Especially ones that were imported from CDs.
You still have the CDs? You can import them again. You sold, gave away, threw away the originals? Technically you no longer have the right to listen to the tracks you ripped. Is it inconvenient? Sure. One might argue that the very reason Apple & iTunes were able to drive the move to digital music to start with is that their system was designed to prevent the casual use of their devices as a means for "the kids" to simply "gift" their music libraries to each other without the tediously time-wasting efforts that the previous generation had to go through with home-taping. This no doubt helped get the content owners on board. Of course memory sticks and portable hard drives now make it trivially easy to copy content from one computer to another and indeed to simply backup your own content against a disaster but most people don't do either. Likewise they don't read instructions or terms and conditions until they are inconvenienced, and then complain. You and I might both wish iTunes made it easier, but it doesn't. And this isn't the place to complain about it. Use iTunes Feedback. You want help, it has been offered. Please read and inwardly digest it all properly this time. It does explain what you need to do to recover your data and safeguard it for the future.

What is the best way to sync Address Book contacts?

I run a small Mac network and I need to sync all (we have 8 Macs) the Mac's Address Book's with each other and also with 5 different iPhones. We have a Mac Server running Tiger and all the Macs are running Tiger. 4 of the Macs are Intel. The server is PowerPC.
At the moment I am just using 1 .Mac account to sync to them all, but this is causing many problems with duplications, errors and 'stress!'
The reason for the above setup is money. But, as the problems continue and the syncing become more important, money is now allowed to be spent.
My question really is, as the subject header says, 'What is the best way to sync Address Book contacts?' In the past I have tried XC Connect, and a few other apps, but with the introduction of the iPhones, the setup has become more complex.
If I were to buy all new Intel Macs and an Intel Mac Server all running Snow Leopard, would the 'Address Book Server' do the job? I have found very little information on the net and the information I did find was all negative.
Is there something Leopard can do that Tiger can't? Is Tiger nolonger a good enough system to try and run an Address Book network?
Does anybody else out there in the Mac world have a similar setup to mine, and if so, how do you have your setup.
Incidentally, ALL users, incuding iPhone users, need read & write access to the Address Book!!
Any solutions or suggestions would be most welcome.

I don't know enough about Server, even less abut Syncing.

What is the best way to sync multiple collections of contacts among multiple users on iOS and OS X?
For example, suppose I have three collections of contacts: Bob's, Sally's, and Common. I want Bob to be able to access and sync Bob's contacts and Common contacts, and Sally to access and sync Sally's contacts and Common contacts. Bob and Sally never need to access or sync each other's contacts. Bob and Sally would both sync and share contacts in Common.
How would I best implement this? It's my understanding I have three options for managing contacts across iOS and OS X: 1. iCloud accounts, 2. Install OS X server, or 3. Install and manage Darwin CardDAV directly. Which method would best support what I wish to do?
I am a seasoned Unix geek well versed in the terminal, so I am prepared to get my hands dirty as much as necessary to achieve what I want. Also, it is sufficient if syncing takes place over WiFi on the local network, in fact, that is desirable versus syncing over the cloud.

You mention you keep your and your partner's contacts administered locally. What keeps you from administering them through OS X server as well?
I am guessing this can all somehow be accomplished with multiple contact accounts, but I can't find any information on the web explicitly describing this.
