Best way to transfer custom EXS files to new system

Hi Guys. I am setting up a shared system computer at another studio, and so it was not appropriate to bring my old system drive that has become very bloated over the years.
Trouble is, starting from scratch with both Logic 9.1.8 and Logic 10.0.4 on ML 10.8.4, I no longer have the library and application support folders in User. That is where all the EXS instruments and samples that I have created over the years were kept.
Has anyone succeeded in setting it up from scratch, but placed all the legacy user files somewhere that Logic (both versions) could find them? Or have I updated myself out of existence?
Thank you in advance.

hi
would be good to identify the root cause of the performance degradation - if this is I/O subsystem, then moving to another physical volume may help.
If you use Linux, you've got for free ;-) the tools like iostat, vmstat, sar, top.
Storage throughput is most often the bottleneck.

If you are using Migration Assistant with a WiFi connection expect 12+ hours, 24 hours is possible.
If you are using hardwired network connections expect 4 to 8 hours.

  • Best way to transfer all data to a new model phone...

Does anyone have a recommended and systematic way to transfer contacts, messages etc from one phone to another.
eg I recently upgraded from a 6310 to an N95. I discovered that some of my contacts inj the 6310 were onn the SIM and some were on the phone.
I tried to back-up the 6310 to my PC and then restore to the N95.
Somehow I ended up with many duplicated contacts, which meant that caller ID did not display names when i received calls.
I discovered that with Nokia help. But I am still left that stored messages which were transferred, are transferred ok, but now display the phone number instead of the contact name.
    so specific questions:
    1. any idea how to correct the issue I have with my phone
    2. generally, is there a systematic way to clean up a phone before transferring data to a new handset
    3. Any tips for systematically organising contacts on a phone? previously I have just added contacts, saved numbers etc, and the phone seems to have decided where to store them.
(I am not a luddite, I have a degree in electronics, I have worked in technical positions troubleshooting equipment and software for years, but I have never sat and played with mobiles to get the hang of how to use them efficiently - and I find the N95 user guide not so clear or helpful in some areas)
any sites or documents you can point me towards would be welcome.
    Thanks

    1. YOu have succeeded more than many others, the difference between 6310 and N95 is quite huge, 6310 is a rather simple Nokia S40 operating system phone and N95 is S60 phone with much more capabilities and there seems to be quite much differences between the models so I donät think you can get more than you have already.
    2. Which phone you want to clean the 6310 or the N95 I did not get that ? (anyways, you can if my memory serves me right clean the 6310 with some settings - restore factory settings. If it does not clean the contacts, calendar and messages, then you need to clean them using the applications themselves and dig into the settings of that particular area.
    3. If you think about N95 here, you need to use the appropriate fields: first name, last name and then you can choose from the phonebook settings that are the numbers displayed alphabetically by last name or surname. Also you can check if the phone displays names from phone memory, SIM or both.
YOur old contacts from 6310 are such that the phone does not have a means to make a difference between last/first name, so they may apprear only in lastname or first name field in your newq phone and you need to sort that out.

  • What's the best way to transfer ALL existing content to new iPhone?

Because "Backup" and "Restore from Backup" have not worked for me in the past. I don't want to have to re-create all of my existing app data - passwords, logins, game progress, etc. I'm not worried about email and contacts, as those are easily synced from Google - but losing the rest of my data again after "Backup and Restore" operations has me nervous about upgrading to 4s.

Whenever I bought something directly from the iPhone in the past, the next time I went to syc it to iTunes a dialog box popped up asking me if I wanted to tranfer items purchased on the iPhone but not in the library.

Yes, but I think the process is different between auto-syncing an iPhone and manually managing an iPhone.
If you auto-sync your iPhone you'll be prompted about purchases on your device which do not yet exist in your iTunes library. You would normally choose to transfer these purchases, then the auto-sync proceeds as usual and a backup of your iPhone is made with each auto-sync.
If you manually manage the iPhone's contents, just connecting it to iTunes may not automatically initiate these processes. If you just want to drag and drop a playlist from your library to the iPhone, purchases may not be transferred and a backup may not be created. But if you click the Sync button then these two things do happen. If you don't have any new purchases on the iPhone, you can either click Sync or Create Backup to just create a backup of the iPhone.

  • Best way to transfer files from old Macbook Pro to new one?

I just got a new Macbook Pro from Apple...YEEEEAAAHHHH!
    So....
What's the best way to transfer files from old Macbook Pro to new one?  I know Migration assistant, but is there a recommended way?  I don't want to put do a system restore or transfer everything from the old laptop, but I do want to move important things like photos, music, documents and such over.  Any suggestions on best way to do this?
Another question, perhaps subquestion.  If I have, say, an older version of iPhoto but a newer version of one on my new Macbook Pro, will it still transfer photos no problem?
Just looking for hints from the experts so this puppy is set up in the best way possible.

    Just one comment on this:
‘If I have, say, an older version of iPhoto but a newer version of one on my new Macbook Pro, will it still transfer photos no problem?’
the problems are ALWAYS in the reverse way, when you have the newest (or a newer) version of a given app, and wish to transfer its library to an older version.
Otherwise, see the link to Pondini.
I have been using Martin Jahn’s iBackup, with which I have become accustomed and works fine. It also makes daily backups. Its advantage over other apps is that you may add whatever you wish to save, beside its default settings (which you may delete or cancel, of course, even if not recommended); it also has a friendly interface and easily customizable. Of course, this is a personal view, you may try other methods as well, or other backup apps. All are good if you are satisfied and correspond to your needs.

  • Best way to transfer and delete all project related files?

I want to work on a project while at school and home.
    1. Is Media Manager the best way to transfer everything I need from one mac to another?
    2. Is there an automated way to delete all of my files from capture scratch, etc. on the school mac when I am done transferring everything to my disk? I would like to make sure no one else can access those files, though I do not want to delete anyone else's work.
    Thanks.

Go get yourself a big, fast portable firewire drive. Plug it into the school computer. (make sure it is properly formatted first!!!) Navigate to your project's capture scratch folder. Drag the folder to your hard drive. When it's done copying, open as many files as it takes to satisfy you that it has copied successfully.
Then drag any photos, music, narration etc files to the hard drive. Finally, copy your fcp project file to the hard drive.
When you're SURE you've got everything successfully, un mount the firewire drive. Then do all the above again, but this time drag the files on the school computer to the trash and empty the trash.
All this assumes no other twit captured into your folder, but hey what the heck, live and learn.

  • Best way to transfer csv or excel file ??

    Hi
Can anyone recommend the best way for a customer emailing a csv or excel file to me - how can i guarantee it came from them and hasn't been tampered with. This file is generated from the application i develped if this helps.
Have looked at public private keys and signatures etc,
    Thx
    Stephen

    1. your customer should have generated a key pair (public/private).
    2. you should have a copy of his public key.
    3. the customer creates a hash (using MD5 for example) from the file he wants to send.
    4. the customer encrypts the resulting hash with his secret key (this is a signature).
    5. the customer sends the file and the encrypted hash.
    After you receive both files:
    1. you create a hash from the excel file received (using the same algorithm the customer used to create the hash).
    2. you decrypt the encrypted hash the customer sent.
    3. you compare both hashes, if both are the same, then the excel file you received is Ok = has not been tampered.
    Hope this helps.

  • Best way to transfer large files over the Internet?

What is the best way to transfer files that are too large to send by e-mail over the internet, preferably ways that are free or very cheap and are easiest for sender and receiver to work with?
I assume one way is by ftp, but would that necessarily mean buying space on a server somewhere that both I and my recipients can get to? or is there a way to avoid this cost?

you can use a cloud storage like Mobileme (not free) or DropBox (free up to 2GB).
you can also use direct file sharing over internet. no extra software or 3rd party services required. that's what I use to move files between my home and work computers.

  • Best way to transfer files without using migration assistant

upgrading from snow leopard to mavericks goes ok, but migrating files hangs with "less than a minute to go". What is the best way to transfer user files without using migration assistant?

I keep backups of essential documents in Dropbox, and then the files can sync when I reinstall Dropbox.
For larger collections of files, for example, my Documents folder, or iTunes or iPhoto libraries, I transfer them from a Time Machine Backup- just by going into the backup manually and restoring the folders.
If you have files that can fit on a flash drive, then you can use that, which is very fast.

  • Whats the best way to transfer all my pic and vid files from Mac Air to back up drive to free up space on hard disk?

whats the best way to transfer all my pic and vid files from Mac Air to back up drive to free up space on hard disk?

Get a third drive if needed, open the Time Machine pane of System Preferences, set it not to exclude that drive, and drag the files to it. If you're moving an iTunes or iPhoto library, launch the application with the Option key held down and choose the moved library.

  • Which is the best way to transfer the file through the LAN

I need to transfer files of Size in MB from one PC to another. I have done it by File Copy function with the file path "\\Receiver\C:\File.txt". but it takes 1 Sec approximately for the 10KB of file size. I also need to monitor the file transfer progress. Please suggest the best way to transfer file faster.

    Thanks for the Valuable feedback.
Actually the File format I  have to tranfer is *.vlf (these file are taken for printing)  which is of few MB of size  I didnt try to transfer this format file. For the testing purpose I have tried with text files.
Please tell me how to address the destination path (administrative
share of C$ ). I dont know about UNC path.
    In my Code:
After transferring files to the destination path (path - which is always accessed by the Printer).  I have to  send command to the PLC that triggers the printer then printer take these files. After these cycle complete, I replace the files with the File Copy Function then again printer is triggered by the PLC - command.  If the PLC command sent after the file transfer sequence, the PLC will immediately triggers the printer to print the file. I have nearly 500ms of time to transfer two of these files.
All i want to know is File Copy function completes its job after transfer or it just commands to do so. I should not give the command to plc while file tranfer in progress.
Also please tell me is it possible to monitor the file being transfered ?
    Thanks & Regards

Since I believe you can't create a Photo Album (Book) in Apperature, what is the best way to transfer my pictures from my Apperature Library to iPhoto (in order to create my book) without loosing any picture quality ?

Since I believe you can't create a Photo Album (Book) in Apperature, what is the best way to transfer my pictures from my Apperature Library to iPhoto (in order to create my book) without loosing any picture quality ?
Why do you think that? You can create printed Books in Aperture with similar themes as in iPhoto, and with more options to create custom themes on your own.
See this page - http://www.apple.com/aperture/what-is.html - scroll down to see the example books.
But if you prefer the iPhoto themes and layout, you can open your Aperture library in iPhoto, if you have both the current version of iPhoto and Aperture. Simply use the command "File > Open Library in iPhoto" and you can create your book in iPhoto.
And switch back to Aperture by using the command "File > Open Library in  Aperture".

  • What is the best way to keep my personal files stored in iCloud separate from my work-related files?

What is the best way to keep my personal files stored in iCloud separate from my work-related files? It seems that I'm not allowed to link my iPad mini and my work iMac using two different accounts, so I'm wondering how to make my single personal account work for both, while keeping personal vs work files reasonably separated.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Is it possible for you to upgrade your account to iCloud Drive? That would mean, all Macs upgraded to Yosemite, and all mobile devices to iOS8?
See:  iCloud Drive FAQ and iCloud: About using iWork for iOS and iCloud
In iCloud Drive you could create two separate custom folders, one for work documents and one for private documents and organize your documents there.  Don't use the app specific folders (Keynote, Pages, Numbers, ...) , because you can only create one level of folders inside these folders.

  • I just bought a new Macbook. What's the best way to transfer all my info from the old one?

Hey everyone! I just got my new retina display Macbook Pro, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to transfer all my music/photos/files/data/etc. from my old Mackbook Pro. I have a 1TB external drive and an 8GB flash drive that I can use if I need to. Any sugestions? Thanks!

What i did with mine, I cloned the drive of my old macbook to my external drive using carbon copy cloner.
Once i was done with the clone - i used migration assistant to transfer my apps/data/pictures/files over my new macbook....
when using migration assistant - do not transfer your old settngs and if you're doing an app transfer, only transfer the ones you need and that you know will work with your Retina...
    good luck..
