  • Best way to transfer certain files from old iMac to new (have Time Machine)

Hey guys.  I'm going to be in the process of moving my data over from my old iMac to a new one.  I have been using Time Machine for a while w/ mostly Snow Leopard and Lion on my old iMac so everything is certinaly backed up via those means.  However, the new iMac will be on Mountain Lion and it's a fresh clean install that I really don't want to muck up with all the *crap* I've accumulated over the years.  So I've decided I only want to transfer the important files to me and I'll install any applications fresh later.  The files I really need are my extensive iTunes library, all my photos, all my documents.  My e-mail is on IMAP so I believe that will sync on its own.
Can the Time Machine migration assistant that pops up with a new computer at setup able to do these specific tasks without an all or none deal?  Or should I copy and paste out of Time Machine or maybe even the external drive itself.  I've had issues copying and pasting iTunes libraries in the past where it lost its entire architecture some how.
    Any advice appreciated

Can the Time Machine migration assistant that pops up with a new computer at setup able to do these specific tasks without an all or none deal?
Yes. For a detailed walkthrough, see here:

what is the best way to transfer my date from my old iMac to my new iMac? I don't have a time capsule, so I cannot use time machine.
    thanks

Your best bet by far is to use Setup Assistant when the new Mac first starts up to transfer directly from the old one.
It's similar to Migration Assistant, but doing it that way will avoid having an extra user account.
Either way, you can connect them via FireWire, Thunderbolt, or your network, but avoid wireless if at all possible.  You can connect both to your netwrork via Ethernet, or put a single cable between the two.
See Using Setup Assistant on Mountain Lion or Lion for details.

  • Easiest way to transfer contacts/data from old phone (5) to new (6 and 6 ). I did "back up to this computer" for both phones. After activation (verizon) do I just plug into iTunes? One phone is still using iOS7 (is that a problem?, other is iOS 8.1.

  • How to transfer icloud data from old computer to new computer

how to transfer icloud data from old computer to new computer

The iCloud data will be on the new computer as soon as you download the iCloud control panel and sign into iCloud with your iCloud ID. What you see in iCloud is stored in iCloud, so it really doesn't matter what computer you are on. Once that computer is signed onto iCloud and the iCloud options are selected, you have full access to all of that information, and much of it is pushed back to your computer.
If you are referring to the data in an iCloud backup created by an iOS device, then that is not something that would be on a computer at all.
Does that answer your question? If not, post back with more info about what you are looking to find out.

  • Regarding transfer of data from old pernr to new pernr

    Hi Gurus,
here i am with scenario, transfer data from old pernr to new pernr with out using actions type.
it is better can anyone tell me the function module for the above scenario.

    Hi,<br>
What do you mean by new pernr?
Is the employee rejoined the same company in same country? - Then can change the employement status of the employee in IT0000 to active and the load other required data for this use REHIRE action. This will with only old pernr. (there is no new pernr concept. employee is just rejoining the  same company in same country)
or if you have to use different pernr, then use to alteast use hiring action to create new pernr. I believe you are doing that . If you need to use old employee data from old pernr, then connect old pernr record with new pernr record using Reference Personnel Id concept of IT0031.
Please read the SAP document on help.sap. and go ahead.
If it is for different country also you can use IT0031.
I can copy paste the text from help, sap but it would look like junk. It better you and read through the document to understand the concept.
Then let me know if you need any help and do provide feedbk.
    Good luck<br><br>
    Thanks,

  • Transfer of data from old computer

I just bought a new iMac running Leopard. I'm currently using a G5 running Tiger. Is there any quick way to transfer my data and settings (hopefully, automatically) from the G5 to the iMac?
    Thanks.

  • Give me a simply way to transfer my ITunes from old Mac to new Mac. PLEASE!

I have a new MacBook Pro and want to transfer my iTunes from my old, but still functional eMac. I have my iTunes folder backed up to an external drive. My songs are a mixture of uploaded CDs and iTunes Store purchases.
I need a straightforward way of doing this. I have searched previous posts, but haven't found any to point me in the right direction.
Question: Do I need to first de-authorize the old eMaC? And then authorize the new Macbook before I begin any transfer?
Will it be easier to transfer from the external hard drive?
And, I assume, when I connect the external drive to the MacBook with Firewire, I just drag over the iTunes folder and drop it where?
Thanks for any help; the last thing I want to do is spend the next month posting questions on how to clean up a mess from one of my ham-handed moves.

you should authorize your MB before you begin. you can deauthorize the eMac later (unless you have already reached the limit of 5 authorized machines).
And, I assume, when I connect the external drive to the MacBook with Firewire, I just drag over the iTunes folder and drop it where?
assuming that the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) is on the external, just drag the folder to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the MacBook. this will overwrite the iTunes folder (probably devoid of content) in that location.
when the move's done, firing up iTunes should take you to the library you were used to from the eMac.
Another question: Do I need to consolidate the iTunes Library before I do anything? I am not sure what consolidation does, but I remember reading about it.
when consolidating your library, iTunes will copy all files it knows of to the location you have designated in preferences > advanced > iTunes media folder location. for example, if you have spread content over a couple of smaller HD's and now want to combine all of it on one big drive, you would consolidate your library.
if all your media files are on the external already, you don't need to consolidate.

Time Machine or other disk (Target Disk mode makes it look like an external HD).

  • FAQ--How to transfer run data from old Nano to new Nano

Go to this thread and follow the instructions. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=595567&tstart=0
To get your old runs from your old Nano into your new Nano (1st or 2nd generation), you do the same as you would to reupload runs from your Nano that have not posted to Nike+ (happens all the time). No doubt there will soon be loads of people needing to transfer their runs to their new 2nd gen Nano.

If you do follow these instructions and transfer your old runs from your old Nano to your new Nano, please do not expect that your total runs on your new Nano will be the same as on your Nike+ site.
Also, your new Nano is NOT a clone of your old Nano so it will NOT match exactly to the data on your old Nano if you put your old runs on the new Nano (totals, etc won't match).
Unless you're a programmer or serious hacker, most users can only edit the XML files on the Nano--"Lastworkout" "preferences" and your run data files in "latest" & "synched." The Unix Executable Files are out of reach for me anyway.
Maybe someone will figure out how to do more, but I suspect our time would be better spent RUNNING!

  • I want to transfer the data from old eMac to new-ish intel iMac. Before I do, I should disconnect internet, yes? Can I just pull the modem's cable out of the computer?

    Disconnect internet first?

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295 Explains how to work it.  And yes places like http://www.macsales.com/ offer Firewire 6 pin to 9 pin connectors which can be connected to the Thunderbolt/Firewire adapter of modern Macs or just plain Firewire 800 port on older iMac Intels.
