Best way to transfer photos over a wireless network?

My husband and I have just returned from holiday. We each had a camera, and my husband brought his MacBook Pro. We downloaded all our photos to his iPhoto library as we went along. (We made a folder with my name on, to keep mine separate, in which there are 500+ photos.) Now we are home I want to import my photos into my iPhoto library on my iMac and then delete them from his laptop. We have a wireless network at home and also use Time Capsule. Can anyone tell me the best way to do it as I'm nervous about touching iPhoto libraries! Thank you.

Chris:
You could connect the two Macs with either an ethernet cable (and make a mini LAN) or a Firewire cable and use the Target Disk Mode. You can then copy the photos to your Mac for importing into iPhoto.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

With supervised ipads, what is the best way to transfer photos and videos to the PC? Wireless transfer is not an option in our circumstances.

There are only two ways of transfering things on the iPad.
      - via WiFi
      - via usb cable
From what I have read, you need to connect to iTunes on the supervising PC.

  • What is the best way to transfer photos from old laptop to new laptop?

What is the best way to transfer photos from old Macbook Pro to new Macbook Pro?

If you only need to transfer photos, connect the two Macs to the same network. Enable file sharing on both, and copy the iPhoto folder from your old Mac to the new one. Put it in your Pictures folder. This assumes you have no photos on your new MacBook Pro you wish to keep. If you do then let me know.
The first time you launch the new version of iPhoto with a Library created by an older version, it will most likely want to "upgrade your iPhoto Library". This is normal.

  • What is the best way to transfer photos currently in Shutterfly into iPhoto?

    Hi!
What is the best way (as far as highest quality and most efficient) to transfer photos currently in Shutterfly into iPhoto?  Do I need Shutterfly to make CDs of all of my current photos?
    Thanks for any help!!

How to make the best quality Sutterfly copies is a good question for ShutterFly support - eithere download the pohotos or get the CD depending on what ShutterFly support suggests and then import to iPhoto
iPhoto simply takes the quality you provide and makes an exact copy of it

  • Best way to transfer photos on an iPad 2

    Hi there!
I have recently bought an iPad 2 and i'm simply lovin' it. it is my first iPad ever and i'm very satisfied with my purchase.so far.
but i wanted to ask from you guys what would be the best (or fastest) way to transfer files such as photos or home videos to my iPad 2?
would that be via an app or an adaptor for my SD/microSD card?
and do i need to download an app to view those files?
    Thanks.

    Another way.
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

  • For windows users,  best way to transfer photos from old iphone to new iphone

I have a friend who just purchased new iphone and she'd like to transfer photos from old iphone to new iphone.
What is the best steps for her to take?
    She has a Windows machine.
    thanks in advance!!!

Make sure iTunes is loaded on the PC
If all she wants are photos, she has to have the photos on her PC, not just on the old phone.  The old iPhone backup doesn't save the actual photos, just the setting pointing to where the photos came from.
If the photos are on her PC, your should be able to sync them to the new iPhone with the Photos tab in iTunes (after the new phone is plugged in).
If the photos aren't on her computer, she can copy them from whatever computer has them (assuming she has access to it).

  • Best Way to Transfer Photos from iPhone to Mac

    Okay, here's my situation.
I installed Snow Leopard and the installation window told me I had to change my volume scheme. Not knowing why the button to allow me to do this was grayed out, I called Apple. The woman I talked to had me boot from the Snow Leopard disc and perform that action. It worked, but what she had be do seemed to delete my hard drive. Because what did say "Macintosh HD" now said "Untitled 1".
I finished the installation and came to find out that hard drive files were gone.
Of course Apple can't be blamed, because I should've had my computer backed up. (Ehh. I'm still very angry though..)
Anyways, I found a nice program to transfer the music from my iPhone to my Mac, but not one single reliable to one to transfer photos.
HELP! I really need to get these photos (amount: 2,000+) on my computer so I can sync it.

I assume these photos are NOT in your camera roll, correct?
    If that's the case:

Of course you realize that the photos you synced to your phone were "optimized" for viewing on the iphone & thus were reduced in size.

  • How is the best way to transfer photos to external HD

How do I go about moving the photos from iphoto onto an external hard drive? I would like for them to be on the external drive so that they wouldn't be taking up space on my computer, but to still be able to see them and work with them in iphoto as if they were on the computer itself.
Also, I would like for them to be in a Windows compatible format, where I could plug the external HD into a Windows computer and work with them on it if I needed to. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    MacBookGal:
Are you running a "referenced" library? That is one where you don't copy the photos into the library during import. If that is the type of library you have you can move the "source" files to the external HD but you will lose the links to them in iPhoto. When clicking on a thumbnail with the photos moved to another HD you'll get a message that iPhoto can't find the original and do you want to find it. I've learned that finding one photo in an event and relinking it will relink the other photos in that event. You will have to do that with every event you have.
Also you do know that with a "referenced" library you cannot move, rename or edit the source file from the Finder. Also if you delete a photo from the library it will not be deleted from the source files. The biggest downside is that if while your in iPhoto and working the external HD loses connection for any reason you can corrupt the database file for the library. That can make the library non useable and make it necessary to start over with a new library and reimport. However, following the tip at the end of my signature you can recover from that situation fairly easily. If you do a search in this forum for "referenced" you'll find some very well worded arguments against using a referenced library by Terence Devlin and other.
You can run a "managed" library from the external HD. Just follow Niels' post for that. You can have your full library on the external with a smaller on your laptop for traveling. You can use iPhoto Library Manager to copy Events or Album between the libraries as needed and keep the keywords, comments and titles intact.
But the original files would not be available to PC users. To make the source files available for PC users the format of the external HD would have to be FAT 32 which iPhoto doesn't not like very well and can cause problems.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. • Best way to share documents over a same network

How best to share a document on a LAN ?
Thought I'd ask the experts who do this all the time...
We never share docs but need to over our LAN so we can both edit same docs.
What is the easiest, most efficient way to do so? Public folder, iDisk, or ?
Thanks for any help with this beginner sharing question.
    System info:
    Both Mac running Snow Leopard
    Ethernet LAN

It becomes confusing if more than one person is editing the same document at the same time. You could use a public folder then turn on "track changes" in your word processing program. The issue of course is if you are both editing then one or more of you will lose your edits when you save the document unless you are very careful on save.
The best solution is to use a document management system that does version control. merges changes, etc.
If there are only two of you each of you will need to coordinate document saves to ensure changes are merged. If one of you has the document open the other will have trouble saving changes as the document will be locked. Not to mention the need to review every word in the document to ensure the other's changes are not overwritten.
If there are more than two of you editing the same document at the same time you need a document magement system. You can't rely on a manual process, especially if it is a large document you are all editing.
If there are just two of you you could make one of you responsible for the document then use email to send this responsible person the document for merging and saving the changes to the document.
The big issue IMO is not how to share the documents over the LAN but how to maintain version control. Sharing documents on the LAN is a trivial task.

  • What's the best way to share photos?

Now that MobileMe Gallery is gone, what's the best way to share photos over the internet?
Is there some simple method where I can upload an entire album from iPhoto and then send a link to others so they can view them?
I've tried both Flickr and Shutterfly and did not like either.

Why can't iPhoto just pull the images from a media browser or something over the network?
I don't know. Part of the issue has to be that iPhoto is not a HD browser. Another part is what you mean by " ... just pull the images".
Any tips on creating a locally hosted web gallery?
My greatest single tip of all time: try it! The tools available to use for just a few hundred dollars are astoundingly powerful.
Or... does anyone have any Automator magic they'd like to share?
No need. Web galleries are built into Aperture 3. Put the images you want to be in the gallery in one Album (Smart or otherwise). Select all the images. Click "New→Web Page". Select a theme. Change some of the text. Make some other changes. Click "Export Web Pages ... ". Make some more decisions. Give the folder a name. Save it somewhere with access to those whom you wish to see it. Select "Tell me when done". Check your email (have a coffee). Click "Show in Finder". Open the folder. Double-click the file "index.html". Brilliant! Enjoy.
The trick to sharing this is to make the folder available. The index file will always open the web site pages in a web browser.

  • Best way to transfer video between iphone and mac wirelessly?

Please suggest me the best way to transfer files between mac and iphone wirelessly.Mainly for videos.

If you want to transfer photos and videos from the Mac to the iPhone (but not in the other direction) you can use iTunes and sync via wi-fi: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
If you want to wirelessly tranfer videos in the other direction you may want to look into a 3rd party app such as http://www.photosync-app.com Note that I have not used that app so be sure to investigate others as well.

  • What's the best way to transfer 11,000 photo's from my old mac to my new one?

What's the best way to transfer 11,000 photo's on iphoto to iphoto on my new mac.  I've just spent 24 hours importing them onlu for it to say there is not enough space available  - BUT I'VE JUST BOUGHT AN NEW UPGRADED MAC?

    Don't import them.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Since I believe you can't create a Photo album (book) in Apperature, what is the best way to transfer my pictures from my Apperature Library to iPhoto without loosing any picture quality?

Since I believe you can't create a Photo Album (Book) in Apperature, what is the best way to transfer my pictures from my Apperature Library to iPhoto (in order to create my book) without loosing any picture quality ?

Since I believe you can't create a Photo Album (Book) in Apperature, what is the best way to transfer my pictures from my Apperature Library to iPhoto (in order to create my book) without loosing any picture quality ?
Why do you think that? You can create printed Books in Aperture with similar themes as in iPhoto, and with more options to create custom themes on your own.
See this page - http://www.apple.com/aperture/what-is.html - scroll down to see the example books.
But if you prefer the iPhoto themes and layout, you can open your Aperture library in iPhoto, if you have both the current version of iPhoto and Aperture. Simply use the command "File > Open Library in iPhoto" and you can create your book in iPhoto.
And switch back to Aperture by using the command "File > Open Library in  Aperture".

  • Best way to transfer large files over the Internet?

What is the best way to transfer files that are too large to send by e-mail over the internet, preferably ways that are free or very cheap and are easiest for sender and receiver to work with?
I assume one way is by ftp, but would that necessarily mean buying space on a server somewhere that both I and my recipients can get to? or is there a way to avoid this cost?

you can use a cloud storage like Mobileme (not free) or DropBox (free up to 2GB).
you can also use direct file sharing over internet. no extra software or 3rd party services required. that's what I use to move files between my home and work computers.

  • I just bought a new Macbook. What's the best way to transfer all my info from the old one?

Hey everyone! I just got my new retina display Macbook Pro, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to transfer all my music/photos/files/data/etc. from my old Mackbook Pro. I have a 1TB external drive and an 8GB flash drive that I can use if I need to. Any sugestions? Thanks!

What i did with mine, I cloned the drive of my old macbook to my external drive using carbon copy cloner.
Once i was done with the clone - i used migration assistant to transfer my apps/data/pictures/files over my new macbook....
when using migration assistant - do not transfer your old settngs and if you're doing an app transfer, only transfer the ones you need and that you know will work with your Retina...
    good luck..
