Best way to wipe iPhone 3G?

Just upgraded to an iPhone 4 and will pass my iPhone 3G onto a new owner - but first want to wipe all the data - how is this best accomplished?
Oh and incase anyone is interested - the iPhone 3G was purchased in Belgium and is thus unlocked as Belgium has laws prohibiting cell phone service providers from teaming up with cell phone makers and locking out the competition - so no AT&T like arrangements - and thus the phone is sold at full price and unlocked.
Thanks,
jf

  • What's the best way to wipe clean a 2006 macbook pro?

I have a 2006 15-inch MacBook Pro, and I'm looking to wipe it clean to speed it up and use it as a bedroom media player (front row/itunes and netflix). What's the best way to wipe it clean and start over?
Also, any suggestions on a media player to use? I hear XBMC and Plex are great, but I don't want it to power another TV, I am going to use it as the "TV" and all controlled by the (old, included, white) Apple remote.
Thanks for any and all help. I'm relatively adept with mac's so it doesnt have to be super simple, but hopefully it doesnt require coding or anything.

Back up all your files to external media. If you don't want this computer to access your iTunes material then "deauthorize" the computer in iTunes. Create a new account on your Mac with admin rights. Delete your old Mac account. Run disk utility and erase unused space.
If you have an iPhone then use the Remote app rather than the Apple remote clicker.
The new ApplyTV has some very good media center features. While using AirPlay you can also stream music thru the AppleTV.
If you're running Lion you made need to upgrade the memory to reduce page swaps.

  • I am giving away a computer, what is the best way to wipe out data prior to depature

i am giving away a computer, what is the best way to wipe out data prior to depature

Did the Mac come with two grey disks when new? If so, use disk one to erase the drive using Disk Utility and then re-install the OS from the same disk. Once installed, quit and when the new owner boots they can set it up as a new out-of-the-box Mac when they boot it up. The grey disks need to be passed on with the computer.
If you need detailed instructions on how to erase and re-install please post back.
If the Mac came with Lion or Mountain Lion installed the above process can be done using the Recovery HD as since Lion no restore disks are supplied with the Mac.
The terms of the licence state that a Mac should be sold/passed on with the OS installed that was on the machine when new (or words to that effect).

WHat is the best way for other iphone users to share pictures with me?  I am doing a project which req. people to send me 100 pictures at a time that I'll be putting in my iphoto? thank you.

    ingridlisa,
I'd suggest to ask them to create Shared PhotoStreams and to invite you to view the streams, see:
iCloud: Using and troubleshooting Shared Photo Streams

that I'll be putting in my iphoto?
Will you be collecting the photos in iPhoto on your iPhone or on a Mac? On a Mac a Shared PhotoStream requires Mac OS X 10.8.2.

  • Best way to wipe device data before downgrading

    Hi all, few questions:
    1. What is the best way to wipe my device before downgrading the device?
    2. Is it possible to downgrade os without wiping?
    3. Alots of downgrades/upgrades and everything may damage the device some how?
    Im using windows vista 64bit

    Matan wrote:
    1. so you say that if im upgrading from 4.6 to 5.0, and from some reason i want to downgrade to the 4.6, wiping the device (for example with jl cmd) is not neccecary?
Correct. It is not necessary. Many choose to do so, however. I, personally, have done so and not done so...with no difference that I could discern. That said, doing so also does no harm.
    Matan wrote:
    2. i meant to upgrades/downgrades mainly, lol.. never mind. so it wont damage some how to do that a few times?
"Damage" would imply something physical...you are wiping and re-writing electronic information. No "damage" therefore can occur.

  • Best way to wipe clean the harddrive in my 40gig 3g IPOD

I have a new 16 gig nano and plan to sell my 40gig 3rd gen IPOD. What is the best way to wipe the harddrive clean?

Restore your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod (just call it iPod) uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done. It will default to manual mode and remain empty, after that whoever buys it can choose whatever update setting they like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes

  • What is the best way to wipe my hard drive for a clean install?

I've been having a lot of insane issues with my iMac like my Dock icons not staying, email messages showing in Mail but when I click on them I can't see any text, Spotlight finding emails and files that don't show on my hard drive, etc.
I've decided that I just want to wipe the whole thing clean and start from scratch. What is the best way that I can do this to make sure that absolutely no data is left on the drive and I am totally starting from scratch?

    Hi David Hamilton1;
I guess that all depends on how critical your data is in relation to how much time you want to spend doing the erasure. Those higher level erasure options can take a significant amount of time to complete. Personally I don't have anything on my Mac that I think is worth more time then a simple erasure even if that does leave it some what recoverable. To me it seems some people are going overboard on this issue.

  • Best way to introduce iPhone

My brother has just gotten iPhone 4 for Christmas. He is a little overwhelmed by the whole thing.. What is the best way to introduce him to all the features and basic use? Hopefully some YouTube video!?

I do not want an iPhone yet.  Have no need for the extra dataplan chares per month.  Do not need to have a bright shiny target thieves love.
That may change eventually, If I travel more for work.  But not for now.
If your brother want simpler for now, let him be at peace with it.

  • Best way to support iPhone when already got iBooks uploaded?

    Hi,
I have already uploaded our Sing alone song books (with videos) to iBookstore. Since those books only supported iPad (done with iBA), we wish to support iPhone too (using ePub), as it will be cool to sing on a phone too.
We tested the ePub version and works fine on iPhone and wish to upload it for iPhone.
Is this allowed? To have 1 book targeting iPad and another targeting iPhone?
Can we make the ePub version iPhone-only?
What's the best way to name the books to avoid confusion?
    Any suggestions welcome!

Your e-pub version cannot be 'iPhone' only, sorry. If you do this, you'll have one version for iPhone/iPad and one for iPad (iBook 2 only) in the store at the same time.
Not sure what name to suggest without knowing the existing name, sorry. You may wish to check the store for examples and be ready with options if Apple objects during the review process.

  • Best way to wipe HD

I'm having some problems with FCS and am going to wipe the HD and reinstall SL and only the apps I need. What the best way to do this? Can I only erase the Start up drive if I boot from the SL disc....if so how do you do that? Do I erase and keep the disk as OS extended (journaled)? Any other advice would be appreciated on this procedure.
I have backed up all my important docs etc!
    Thanks

a wipe an erase might be an overkill but that's your call. i would suggest you do a full backup first before you try it. that is assuming there is any data on the drive you want to keep. use either Time Machine or a 3rd party backup like CCCloner or Superduper to back up. also, I don't understand what you mean by "only erasing the startup drive". is your hard drive partitioned?
to do a wipe and install boot from the SL DVD and start disk utility from the Utilities menu. assuming your hard rive is not currently partitioned I would reformat the whole drive at this point. select the whole drive (model, not name) and click on the partition tab. set the number of partitions to 1, format to mac os extended journaled, click on "options" and set the partition scheme to GUID (it should be that already). then click "apply". when done, quit disk utility and proceed with the install.

  • Best Way To Clean iPhone Screen?

I've had my iPhone since the day it came out and, as such, it's been jostled a fair bit.
I use the cleaning cloth that came with it but sometimes there are spots that it can't get off.
I'm afraid of using anything wet on it, even a damp cloth.
Someone recommended alcohol-based solutions but I'm not sure.
What is the absolute best way to keep this thing clean?

Yup! That's what I was gonna say was rubbing alcohol. I just dabbed a cotton bud in a little bit of peroxide and wiped the screen; everything came right off. If you're concerned about damp stuff, you can squeeze out most of the liquid from the cotton bud first before rubbing it on the screen.
To be completely honest, though, in my case I do not have to deal with cleaniness that frequently. I've had my phone in a case with a plastic cover film on the face almost since the day I got it. I don't remember why I pulled it out of it's case for a little bit there, but I do remember it got dirty and this was a great way to shine it up!

  • Best way to sync iphone and ipod touch

I have had an ipod touch for some time and have just got an iphone. Ideally I want to keep the ipod touch for music, games etc and use the phone purely for internet, phone etc and maybe a couple of cd's on there. Is there a best way to sync them both - ie something I should make sure I tick when I set up the iphone or will it handle it automatically.
    Thanks
    nick

iTunes on your computer will keep them separate. I have 2 iPhones and 1 iPod Touch all syncing to the same computer, with different playlists, apps, contact groups, etc., on each of the devices.

  • Best way to wipe iPod ?

I want to exchange my iPod as it has a defective centre scroll wheel button.
What's the best way to completely wipe it ?
I've wiped all the songs, podcasts, videos and photos from it but there doesn't seem to be a way to clear the calendar.
    Thanks.

A total restore would wipe the memory. Follow this link to learn how to restore.
