Best ways to learn photoshop CS4?

Hello,
First time poster here. I see from posts I've been reading here that many of you are experienced Photoshop users. I hope you can share some advices on best books or videos to help me learn Photoshop.
What do you suggest?
TIA
Karl

Spend thousands of hours in front of your computer with this crazy application called Photoshop open!  ;)  First and foremost, I would read some books written by Dan Margulis....possibly "Professional Photoshop" which will give you a great understanding of color correction.  Also, join NAPP http://www.photoshopuser.com/ for however inexpensive it is and watch the video tutorials which are priceless and also able to be downloaded if you have Quicktime Pro, etc. Obviously there is no substitute for time actually working in an application, but different Photoshop seminars like Photoshop World can be helpful, reading books and online tutorials are great, and also some more advanced stuff once you really have a grasp in PS would be something like Dan Margulis's classes which are SUPER intense 3 day classes which propelled me above many of my colleagues in regards to how Photoshop should really be used and what it was intended for...not just running plastic wrap filters.  :)  Hope this helps!  @.

  • Best way to learn Photoshop?

    Hi there,
I'm trying to transition to a career as a graphic/web artist and before making the transition I was looking to take a photoshop and/or illustrator classes (preferably weekend classes) in the Los Angeles/Santa Monica area. I don't have photoshop on my computer so ideally I'd be able to find a class that had the program loaded on their computers already.
Any help and/or advice on how to become a graphic/web designer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for taking the time.

A student can buy the whole creative suite for $599 the cost of nonstudent purchase of Photoshop standard. The best way to learn Photoshop is to have it and use it. Click on every button, menu item, and pallet/panel. don't be afraid to look in every nook and cranny, I'm always surprised by the lazy people who ask the most basic questions all because they have not put the time into looking around the application.
seriously if you are going to spend all that money on the app It seems like you would want to spend some time going over it. Think of it as a video game and you must look at everything to win.
also if you only want it to crop pics and print them or put them up on a simple website Elements just might be a better choice

  • What is the best way to learn SAP-ABAP

What is the best way to learn ABAP??
Stick to SAP press books and understand and learn theroitically
                                            'or'
Move to ABAP programming and experiment all the things you have learn.
If both want to go hand in hand and if we want to do more practise, where can i find a source of abap programming questions (like codechef for java,c,c++..).  Bcoz understanding new concepts require practise and to creating programs to practise is a really difficult.
    Thnak you

    Hi,
Do the SAP course (BC400 - 5 days - it is a great course) and then practice practice practice.
The language itself is not difficult, but finding your way around the SAP system can be challenging.
    Try to do real-life examples.
    good luck!

  • What is the best way to learn Mac OS X 10.7 Lion in depth?

What is the best way to learn Mac OS X 10.7 Lion in depth?
I have updated to lion a few months ago, found my way around just by playing with it, but now I would like to get serious and learn pretty much all it can do. But wondering if I should get one of those lion tutorial apps, or just an old fashion book. I guess practical exercises would help. Oh, and with Mountain Lion coming this summer, should I just wait?

Thank you for your suggestions Softwater. Your book suggestion led me to this other one:
Mac OS X Lion: The Missing Manual [Paperback]
    David Pogue (Author)
The reviews were pretty good, and I think it's a good starting point, for my current level, but will consider your suggestion later on.
Well, if I don't upgrade to Mountain Lion when it comes out later this year. Otherwise I may have to wait for a Mountain Lion: The Missing Manual

  • What is the best way to learn about galaxie s3 from novice viewpoint?

what is the best way to learn about galaxie s3 as a complete beginner?  nothing that is taken as a given by other discussions is known by me.  i instantly get lost.

Do you already have the phone, or are you planning on getting the phone.
You could sign up for a free workshop at one of your local Verizon stores. You could read the owners manual. You could peruse thru the topics on THIS Verizon site.
I thought there was a thread which gave a bunch of tips/tricks for the GSIII, but I can't seem to find it. There IS one for the Galaxy Note II which MAY be helpful with the GSIII, though.

Ask in the forum(s) for the program(s) you are using
The Cloud forum is not about using individual programs
The Cloud forum is about the Cloud as a delivery & install process
If you will start at the Forums Index https://forums.adobe.com/welcome
You will be able to select a forum for the specific Adobe product(s) you use
Click the "down arrow" symbol on the right (where it says All communities) to open the drop down list and scroll

  • I have CS3 web standard. What is the best way to add Photoshop CS 3/CS4

CS3 web standard works perfect for me. I just misses Photoshop. Perhaps you know the best way to solve this problem.
Because if I buy an upgrade, it'll be a Studio.
Second qustion: What does a Studio mean and where can I buy a studio?
    Thanks!

I thought Web Standard included Photoshop. In any event, you can't just upgrade one component of a suite you need to upgrade the entire thing.
Even if you just wanted Photoshop CS5 you'd have to buy a full license for $699. PS Extended will run you $999.
Upgrading to CS5 Web Premium (there is no standard) will cost you $795 http://amzn.to/92gG02.
Before you go that route, however, you may want to consider Design Premium for $780: http://amzn.to/8XRD7M
I have an article on my website explaining why I think it's the best choice: http://www.theindesignguy.com/purchase-advice.shtml
    Hope that helps,

  • What is the best book to learn Photoshop CC and Lightroom? I'm a beginner and like a hard copy.

Just got Photoshop CC and Lightroom and want to learn to use it properly. Was thinking a manual would be the best way. There are so many available, what are your favorites?

Manuals tend to be dry and heavy going, and more suited to used as a references, rather than to be read in a linear fashion.  If you do want to go that way, the Missing Manual, and Bible series have been around for a long time, and I imagine they must contain heaps of info if the size of them is anything to go by.
The Scott Kelby books are a good choice for beginners, because he tries to introduce humour onto every page, which makes them easy to keep reading.
A good half way between the two choice are the Adobe Classroom in a Book series, which are laid out in a home learning fashion.
My best advice is to use Amazon, and read the Customer Reviews, so long as there are at least a dozen or so to give you good sample rate.
    Amazon.com: photoshop cc: Books
    Amazon.com: lightroom 5: Books

  • Is Using Netbeans the best way to learn Java?

hi all. this is my first post.
okay, I am total n00b. But I have been flirting with the idea of learning to code for about 2 years, and I think I need to leanr java, though I hear it is a difficult first language. but i love the platform independence thing. so a question.
is it a good practice to learn the language with netbeans, or just with a text editor? i am leaning to netbeans but thought i'd ask others.

Understand though that if you ask this question to 20 different folk here, you'll get 20 different answers. Also realize that this has been asked 3,428 times here.all sane people will tell you that using Notbeans may not be the worst way (that would be BlueJ) but is far from being the best way (which would be VI).

  • What is the best way to learn SAP Java

    Hi,
I would like to understand basic principles of SAP Java, to check how it is working, primarily J2EE components like JMS, WS, EJB, Persistence... As I'm ABAP and PI consultant, I see this as my next step, sure I'm not aiming to be experienced Java developer beacuse this would require much more time than I have now.
So far I read "Foundations of Java for ABAP Programmers" but I think that this is just a begining. I want to learn more stuff about SAP J2EE    and J2SE is for me, let say, clear.
Also I start reading "Java Programming With The Sap Web Application Server" as my next book about SAP Java, but it is not quite that I don't like this book, it is somehow not interested for me.
So I would like to hear your suggestions what is the best way or the best approach to learn SAP Java. I see this as future help for one ABAP and PI consultant. Also I've done some Mapping developments for PI (SAX and DOM parser), so really think for me to know Java better it will be "bigger plus" for me.

I will suggest you SAP Elearning section on SDN about Java Development.
    Below is the link....
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/java-elearning?dprpp=all
It contains lot of practical examples which will keep you interested as well..
But you wil lhave to be very selective there on whaich topic you wish to kick start.........
For example there is one called :
    Java for ABAP Programmers
    ABAP Objects for Java Developers
SAP Java World for ABAP Programmers
    Java Mapping in Exchange Infrastructure

  • Learning Photoshop CS4

I've just emptied my bank account and bought CS4 (omg!) and I'm a completely new user to Photoshop (apart from using the trial versions) so I wondered if anyone had any advice on a book to buy to help me learn Photoshop?
I know there's tons of tutorials on the web but I really prefer a hard copy on my desk to refer to.
What books have you read on PS that you would recommend?
    Thanks

emptied mine on the same, PLUS, printer, labtop, 2K of other software, 200$ worth (well, we'll see what they are 'worth) of books, Intuos 4 tablet, Corell Paint, Nik Software Collection, Lightroom 2, Photoshop Elements 7 and Adobe Premiere Elements 7.
AFTER ALL THIS.....  I STILL CANT GET CAMERA RAW TO WORK. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME? (please?)
    HOWEVER...
I know NOTHING - BUT - after extensive research on my : this is what I purchased ...  (my own opinion is simply that, plus other AMAZON users will show)  go to PEACHPIT and OREILLY and AMAZON for your books and see who has a better deal, sometimes, one will be like getting 2 books free by saving $$ OR if you need something special - go to Oreilly or PeachPit . they are a bit more expensive, but offer buy 2 get 3rd free type books. And have pretty cool resources on books too and PeachPit is a decent website to checkout.
I bought all of these at AMAZON: I did the research and it came out about 70$ cheaper (with all of these books)

  • What is the best way to learn about java?

What is the best and cheapest way to learn java?

I also am a Newbie to the Java language and am trying to get my head around it. I guess it all depends upon how much experience, and at what level, you have with programming in general. I have a good understanding of what my University tutor called "sequential logical thought" but I must confess this Object Oriented approach is, at first, most odd. However the Sun tutorial :
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/TOC.html
: is the one I use the most. If I don't understand a specific computing term then I look it up at :
    http://www.webopedia.com/
: which is a very good online encyclopedia of computing terms.
    There is also :
    http://www.joegrip.com/
: which is an online "interactive" tutorial (you have to pay)
I would advise against rushing out and buying a book until you have spent a whole day trolling through the 'net and seeing what it has to offer . There is a lot out there. The problem is wading through all the nonsense until you find what you're looking for.
    Good luck

  • What is the best way to learn FCP?

    Hi,
I have used FCP in a very limited way, i.e. playing around, making short videos. I am wanting to move onto editing all of my videos in FCP but I find it very different to anything else I have used, even on a mac. What is the best/easiest way to learn the essentials of FCP? Also bear in mind I'm a student, so looking for a budget solution.
    Thanks
    Kelly
    PowerMac G5 DC 2.0Ghz, Mac Mini G4 1.42ghz, iBook G3 800Mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   iPod Nano

Books and tutorials are great and I'll second them... in fact, I'll put my vote out for Jerry Hofmann's book... not sure if he's got the v5 out or if he gave up, but even the v4 book would be very helpful.
Takes you step by every livin' step through the editing process of a short film. Letting YOU make the choices etc. But it is done so in a really thought out lesson way.
By the time you're done, you've got a nice film worth showing at your local living room.
HOWEVER -- I have ALSO found that 50 tutorials doth not an editor make. Take it from me... I love After Effects, but I've done so many tutorials I rely on them to show me how... if you get my meaning. I've never really dug INTO the program to build my own things (not really, but it sounds good and makes a point.)
I guess I'm saying... take your camera and a day and build a story. Simple as filming your back yard. Got kids? Use them.
You'll find as you shoot/cut that you'll be looking for those shots and effects that you'll need to key in on as an editor. You'll get a sense of pacing as you are working out what the heck does JKL do?
Yes, you might be mouse driven for a while, but after you know what the books are talking about you can then start to understand and internalize them.
    Ya?
    Good luck,

Your first task will probably be to decide on a Linux distribution and and also determine if you have enough hardware resources. Then install the OS and see further. There are many tutorials and Linux lessons available for free on the Internet.
If you are familiar with windows and need it for your day to day work, save yourself from very frustrating experiences and do not erase your hard drive or bother with dual boot, like it was done 10 years ago. Look into setting up Virtualbox first http://www.virtualbox.org. It will allow you to run any distribution of Linux without jeopardizing your primary operating system. It will give you all the flexibility you will need to install or reinstall and learn Linux whenever you have time.
