Best WiFi card?

Hi, I'm in the market for a new wireless adapter and I was wondering if there was a general concensus on what "the best" network adapter was. What I mean is, what do most people consider the best supported, best working wireless card for Linux systems? Thanks.
P.s. no PCMCIA cards please, desktop doesn't have one of those
P.s.s. preferably USB, but it doesn't have to be, as I realize that most USB wifi cards aren't well supported.
P.s.s.s. I recently bought a Netgear WG111v2 but it's not working and I've looked all over and cannot get it to work, and to be honest I just want to get a new card and get it over with.

P.s. no PCMCIA cards please, desktop doesn't have one of those
You looking for a wireless adapter for a Desktop?
You don't need package injection for like aircrack-ng?

  • Need recomendation - best WIFI card?

    Hey guys,
I have a question, I want to add my Power Mac to my network (wifi) at work. Currently it is the last one without wireless. But its kinda out of the way, which is the best wireless card? Should I just use the original Airport card that it takes or is there a different brand USB or PCI card for best reception? Dumb question, will a aftermarket make it work in " G " instead of " B "?
    thanks

Here's some various wireless devices from OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/search/wireless
The original Airport card would work but it has b speeds.
The USB devices would work, but your Mac has USB 1.1 speed, so again it would be slow.
The best option is a PCI card.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Wifi card not working properly

I purchased an hp Envy in October 2014. The wifi card no longer functions properly.  Connections are intermittent or so slow they don't function.  Is this defect covered by warranty?  The wifi card is Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11
As long as I'm hard wired, I have no internet connection issues. But dysfunctional wifi limits mobility and eliminates one of the primary features that I relied on in making the purchase choice.  What is the solution?

  • Best wifi hardware for airport express

    Hi
m looking for ideas for buying the best wifi hardware (accespoint) good for running the airport express.
I have an asus wifi-onboard card right now, but the card looses connection after aprox one hour - then I have to reassosiate with the airport express.
    thanks

With regards to wireless interface adapters for PCs - any make/model should work just fine. If you want to try an alternative, stick with a product from one of the big names in the business of making these adapters like Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, or Intel.
That being said - there are common causes for "dropped connections" other than a "bad card". Interference from neighboring wireless networks and 2.4 GHz portable phones, for example, will also cause problems exactly like you describe. Before replacing the card, you might experiment with changing the wireless channel of the Airport Express (try 1 or 11) - a setting found under the Airport tab of the Airport Admin Utility.

  • Ibook g4 can't recognize wifi card but recognize bluetooth

    Hi,there:
G4 can't recognize wifi card , but can recognize the bluetooth, last night I take apart of machine, and found that the 2 are into 1 chip, but now I forget which model is it?maybe 1127.
When I take the card out and put back again, start machine , mac will recognize it and after a few minutes, the card disappeared.
Does this showes the wifi-bluetooth card is faulty? or sth else?
    All the best!

do the PMU & PRAM reset first. still having issues, then try pulling the card & all the cables & put it back in.
do the PMU & PRAM again once back together.

    Hi,
My X200 laptop was installed with windows xp professional SP3 and after nearly a year using it smoothly, I suddenly get in to trouble!
My wifi card is now occationally disappear in the device manager (so I cannot connect to the wireless network). Those are some case the trouble arise:
    1. Case 1:  After turn on the laptop & OS start-up, the wireless led is not on! (although the wifi switch is at the ON position) and the wifi card is not appear in the list of hardware in Device Manager.
    2. Case 2: After turn on the laptop & OS start-up, the wireless led is not on! (although the wifi switch is at the ON position) and the wifi card is appear in the list of hardware in Device Manager but it can not detect any wireless network (though many wireless networks available!). If I try to disable or repair the wireless network connection, The wireless network connection icon and also the wifi-card in the device manager list disappear! and I have no way to re-enable it!
    3. Case 3: The wifi card is working normally, but suddenly "shut-down" (the wifi led is turn off although the wifi switch still turn on!).
Ussually, restart the laptop help make the wificard to work again. but sometimes I have to restart several times or do not care about it anymore (use wired network as alternative), then one day, it ... works again!
I've tried to run system recovery to the manufacture default state but it's does not solve the trouble.
May Kaspersky Internet Sercurity is the cause!?
So anyone also encounter the trouble like me and what is the solution? Please help.

  • Satellite P10: Which Wifi card will fit?

    HI
Im looking to fit a mini pci wifi card to my P10
model PSP10E-0RCJM-EN trouble is I don,t know which type will fit I seen several cards offerd that involve doing away with the wifi on off switch I would prefer to keep this feature so need to know what cards support it prefer a 54g card if poss.

    Hi
I have found that wireless card with part number PA3212U-3MPCR is the right one for your notebook. The problem is that this card is IEEE 802.11b with 11Mbps data transfer rate.
I don`t know which one with standard g will fit to your notebook. The best solution is to contact service partner. I am pretty sure that they have this kind of information.

  • T61, T60 - BSOD for Intel WiFi cards, Middleton BIOS, & Win 8.1 & 10

This is an "all-in-one" post. Recently, my trusty T61p started getting Blue Screens of Death (BSOD) with the following message:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQAL in sysnetwlv64.sys This has been frequently reported as a complication of Windows 8.1 (only) when installing the Intel drivers for the 3945 and 4965 WiFi cards.  Both Intel and Microsoft state that these cards, plus the 5200 are no longer supported, but the 6200, 6300, etc. are. Suggested remedies are:
    1. For the T61's, reflash with the Middleton BIOS (2.29 plus mods - no white list, SATA 2 works).  Then install a more recent WiFi card that has supported drivers for Win 8.1.
    2. Change cards in both the T60 and T61s to the IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter 42T0825 (this is an Atheros AR5008 5418 AR5BXB72). In recent posts I have seen about Win 10, the old Intel drivers that used to work for Win 8.0 (but didn't in 8.1) appear to work in Win 10.  (However, since it is still before July 29, I can only assume this is in preview versions, not RTM).  If anyone has actually in installed the Win 10 RTM and had no problems, this whole thing may be a "non-issue".  Is there any experience with this? If I follow the remedies suggested above:
    1. Using the replace the card approach with the Middleton BIOS, what is a good card to get?  The other benefit of the Middleton BIOS is to allow the harddrives in the T-61's as SATA 2 instead of the dumbed-down SATA 1 as in the stock 2.29, 2.30 BIOS
    2. If I follow the replace with the Atheros cards, I assume the best approach is to see if there are 3 antennas in the T60 (the T61's already have them).  If not, I understand that I can add the 3rd antenna with FRU 42R9909. For specific machine configurations, see the specs at the bottom (they're all "FrankenPads"). Many thanks for looking and your comments... --------------------------------------T-61p -- 15.4" WXSGA+, Win 8.1 64-bit, BIOS 2.30, CPU-T9500 2.6 GHz (Penryn), RAM 8GB DDR2-667 (2x4GB), HD 500GB (7200RPM, SATA 2, WD5000BPKT-00PK4T0), NVIDIA Quadro F570FM (1680x1050 - 9.18.13.2702), DVD-RAM, WiFi Intel 4965 (13.3.0.137), Ethernet Intel 82566MM (9.13.41.3), Ricoh Media Cardbus (6.3.9600.16384), Biometric CPU (1.6.1.341), Conexant Modem (7.62.0.0), Broadcom Bluetooth (12.0.0.8047) T-61 -- 14.1" WXGA+, Win 8.1 64-bit, BIOS 2.30, CPU-T7800 2.6 GHz (Merom), RAM 8GB DDR2-667 (2x4GB), HD 320GB (7200RPM, SATA 3, WD3200BEKX-22B7W4T0), NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (1440x900 - 9.18.13.2702), DVD-RAM, WiFi Intel 4965 (13.3.0.137), Ethernet Intel 82566MM (9.13.41.3), Biometric CPU (1.6.1.341), Conexant Modem (7.62.0.0), Broadcom Bluetooth (12.0.0.8047) T-60 -- 14.1" XGA, Win 8.1 32-bit, BIOS 2.27, TPM 1.2, CPU-T7600 2.3 GHz (Merom), RAM 3GB usable DDR2-667 (2x2GB), HD 320GB (7200RPM, SATA 2, WD3200BEKT-00PVM4T0), Intel Graphics 945 Express (1024x768 - 8.15.10.2697), DVD-RAM, WiFi Intel 3945ABG (13.3.0.137), Ethernet Intel PRO/1000PL (9.15.11.0), Biometric CPU (1.6.1.341), Conexant Modem (7.62.0.0), Broadcom Bluetooth (12.0.0.8047)

  • Fitting a mini pci wifi card to a T21 HELP PLEASE! :D

    hello you lovely people
I currently have USB2.0 functionality and wifi on my T21 courtesy of a dongle and power from the 5v mouse socket
what i want to do is put a mini pci wifi card inside my T21 so i dont have a dongle sticking out like a sore thumb
    1. is this possible or is it only the T23 you can do this too?
    2. can anyone show me the specific card and aerial i would need
i cant find any help on the net for the T21 in particular
hoping someone here might shed some light on this
thanks for any help or pointers you can give
    D
    T42 - T21 - Tecra 8200 all xp

Your best bet would be to find a complete lid with integrated wireless from a T23, and add an internal card, Broadcom 4306 or 4309 (b/g and a/b/g respectively) have been proven to work well in these machines.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lenovo yoga 213 wifi card not working in the new laptop

I purchaed lenovo yoga 213 from Best Buy Boston and have brought to India. From the day one,the Bluetooth and Wifi is not working. On taking to their authorised service centr-Hitech technologies they have tried to replace the wifi card but even they are not able to solve the problem.I am trying to contact Lenovo for replacement of Laptop, but there is no response from them. What should I do?

Lenovo service centre has done all these after getting a replacement card
from Lenovo and again they have reported that the wifi replacement card
recieved is defective ,so they have asked for 2 nd time replacement of
wificard as well as the touchpad which they say carries the antenna for
wifi. The bottom line is i am tired of running around to service centre and
have not been able to use the laptop from the time i have bought the
laptop.I thought if there is a manufacturing defect lenovo, being a reputed
    brand will replace the laptop.

  • X220 doesn't recognize Wifi-card

Hi everybody, I ran into some issues with my X220 some weeks back and have been trying to fix them to no avail. As far as I can remember I took some time a few weeks back to install the 1.40 firmware-update and also updated the battery-firmware in the same routine. I'm not sure If it was immediately afterwards (since I'm using a dock with LAN), but the wifi-card (Intel 6205) wasn't recognized by the OS anymore. No entry in the device manager! Here's what I've seen/tried so far:1) What I was firstly able ot see was that the device would sometimes show up after returning from sleep when not in the dock.2) Since I have an Ericson WWAN-card i switched mPCIe places. WWAN-card works in both slots. No recognition of the Wifi-card in both. >> So it doesn't seem to be related to mPCIe or the board.3) My guess was a faulty card, so I tried a newly-bought Intel 7260 Wifi-card in the slot.3.1) The Wifi-card must have been recognized by the BIOS, since the whitelist-fault was presented and I had to remove it to even be able to boot again.3.2) As the warranty wasn't my concern anymore anyways I flashed a whitelist-disabled version of the 1.40 firmware. As promised, I was able to boot with the 7260 card.3.3) Yet still, the card is not presented in the device manager.4) Since my Windows 7-installation had quite some time on its shoulders I reckoned that maybe another OS would be able to properly recognize the card. I just freshly installed Windows 10 and again - nothing is able to bring back the Wifi-card.5) I used a linux live distribution to check whether that one recognizes any of the the cards. It also wasn't able to see any of the two. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of issue? With best regards and a hopeful thanks in advance, Christian

    Update:
I used a debian live installation running from a pendrive to look for detected hardware. No wifi was found - again for both cards.
I'm really lost for ideas at this point. What really irritates me is that the BIOS/UEFI recognizes the 7260 card with correct VID and PID. Yet still the cards are somehow (I guess) not made available to the operating system.
On another note: I've just noticed that I posted in the wrong forum section. It's about an X220, so the "ThinkPad X Series Laptops" forum would be the correct one. Could a moderator maybe move this topic?

  • Issues with broadcom 4313 wifi card on a samsung NP305

    Hi
I'm currently having issues with getting the wifi to work on my broadcom 4313 wifi card on a Samsung NP305U1A. The command
      lspci -vnn | grep 14e4
returns 14e4:4727, so according to the wiki, I chose the "brcmsmac" driver. I blacklisted correctly b43, bcma in the /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf file, rebuilded the mkinitpcio image, so when I type lsmod now, the only wifi modules loaded in my kernel are :
      brcmsmac 569864 0
      mac80211 221981 1 brcmsmac
      brcmutil 6912 1 brcmsmac
      cfg80211 165796 2 brcmsmac, mac80211
I still don't see the wlan0 appearing when I type ifconfig though.
    Would you have any advices?
    Thank you very much,

    Hi everybody!
I've found a solution for this problem (at LinLap, see pierre comment on Feb-24-2012) and it worked for my Linux Mint installation. On " /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf" I didn't have the "blacklist b43" line, it was only on a previous comment line, but I commented the next line (it was similar) and added the same blacklist at end of file.
    Uninstall the 'Broadcom Sta' driver
    Open the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
    Delete the line:
    blacklist b43
Add these two lines at the end of the file:
    blacklist bcma
    blacklist brcmsmac
    Save and exit
    Type:
    sudo apt-get remove –purge bcmwl-kernel-source
    Reboot
    Type:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
    Reboot
    Select the 'Broadcom Sta' driver
Best regards and I hope this works for you too

  • AC wifi card upgrade for dv7-6b77dx?

Hi.  I'm considering purchasing a router utilizing the new AC wireless standard and I'm wondering if there are any AC wifi cards that are approved for use in the US with the dv7-6b77dx?  I was looking specifically at the Intel 7260HMW but if there's any other AC wireless card that's approved for use I'm open to alternatives.
If there aren't any currently approved for use, is there any expected timeframe when one will be?  Thanks.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Thanks Huffer.  I thought that was probably the case but figured I'd just check anyway.  Good info though to know that HP doesn't add new wifi cards to the approved list with bios updates.  Not what I wanted to hear of course but at least I know now not to wait for that and go with a USB adapter instead if AC wireless is something I really want.
FYI though for anyone else considering this upgrade, I just tested an AC USB adapter from my local Best Buy along w/a new AC router and I wasn't that impressed (great at short range but no better and actually worse than N at a distance which is what I really wanted it for).  Maybe that was just the router and adapter I tried (both Linksys) but for now I've decided to just return those and stick with the laptop's Centrino N card.
