Best wireless channel setting for desktop PC, PC l...

Hi
I have the latest BT infinity home hub for over a year. I have all those devices and computers listed in the subject. I have probelm getting wireless connection on all devices working at the same time.
My main problem was desktop PC wireless not working on channel 1. Spoke to technical support, tried Channel 7, desktop PC connection is fine, but it affected my iPhone and iPad connection. Appearently channel 1 and 11 are recommended channels, but still not working. Network interface setting 802.11 b/g/n. Now given up all manual channel setting, back to automatic setting. Now my desktop PC currently without wireless network - back to sqaure one !!!
If anyone has all or most these devices and computers connected same as me, and is working well, can you please let me know which channel you are using and other settings so I can try.
Thanks.

Hi
Thanks for all your advice. As it is currently set to auto, when I checked this morning, it is set on Channel 6 (spot on!). My desktop PC wireless connection icon is showing "X" with no bars (like mobile signal) - meaning no connection, but when I check the browser and Outlook, everything seem to be working fine. All my i devices all working fine so far as well.
It seem be a happy ending for this! BT wanted to charge £30 for checking the devices!!!
Great community! Thanks!

  • Best wireless channel setting for W610N

    Hi there,
I just upgraded to fiber op internet and it was advertised that i can get 25mbps max. The laptop which i use on the main floor where the router is at is getting full upload and download speed by wireless but my laptop which i use up in my room is only getting half of thee speed n sometimes less... But once i brought my laptop down to the office right beside the router, i get the full speed so

If you are getting the speed when you are near the router, then you need an expander or a wireless repeater. I presume you get a low signal upstairs. Of course, speed directly proportional to your signal given that there are no significant interferences around.
There's no best wireless channel. You have to check which one is the best for your connection.

What's the best iTunes import setting for highest quality and universality?

    Highest quality?
Apple Lossless. (But the files are way big)
    Universality?
MP3 (choose the bit rate you think sounds best and doesn't take too much space)

what is the best time to set for my iMac intel to get to sleep? the default is 10 minutes, i am changing it to 1 houirs but i put the sleep time for my monitod 10 minutes. is it decent?

but if it MUST run 24x7, then likely one has budgeted for a new system
    within 3 years anyway.
Not so sure of that "just plain logic." Allowing  sleep too often will cause wear on the drive -- excessive spin up and spin down. Temperature permitting, a drive will last longer if just left running.
For other hardware, a lot will have to do with the internal temps. When it's quite hot here, I allow the computer to sleep more often. But otherwise, it's a bit of this and a bit of that. I wouldn't personally recommend running 24/7, although I know of several here who claim they do, with no apparent adverse effects over many years.

    Hi there,
Wi-Fi connectivity has been known to bug iPad users since launch, and I understand that Apple are fighting to fix this. You can take a look at the link below, which may help troubleshoot the issue.

You can also provide feedback to Apple at the below site.

  • What is the best wireless label printer for iPad?

What is the best wireless label printer for iPad?

The Epson Mobilelink P60 series and the Star Micronics T300 will work over wi-fi, but not being AirPrinter printers you'll have to find a third-party printing app that will work with them. The Epson P60 now also supports printing via Bluetooth, according to Epson:

Perhaps one of those would work for you.

  • Best QT export setting for istockphoto?

    Hi.
I want to export my footage using PPro CS5 for uploading onto istockphoto.com.
The required format is QuickTime (Photo-JPEG).
    This is the source summary:
    1440x1080 (1.3333), 29.97fps, Upper
    (was shot with Sony AX2000)
Does anyone know the best export setting for this footage?
    I tried this...
    Format:QT
    Preset:Custom
    Codec:Photo-JPEG
    1440x1080
    29.97fps
    Upper First
    Aspect: HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.333)
Then, the exported video looks vertically streched...
    What am I doing wrong?
    Please help.
    Thank you!
    Kitty_Kai

You're probably doing nothing wrong.  Many players will not unsqueeze the footage automatically, you have to tell it to do that with a keypress or menu setting.

  • Best Compressor encoding setting for DVD

I have an 80 min FCP project. It is a stage show where part of the frame is dark and the stage is light with gels and the Dancers. What is the Best encoding setting for a standard size DVD
I tried 90 minute 2-past best DVD but there was severe blocking/chopping.
    Any tricks & tips?
    Thanks

I don’t understand that. (Me not so smart.) If there is a standardized Unicode value associated with glyph X, then how is it that none of the Unicode character sets in Firefox abide? Add a font? As I understand it, a font is just a re-representation of known characters. It seems like I’m hearing that not only does there have to be a character set decode of the data I’m viewing, but also a font that takes that Unicode value and translates it to something visual. That doesn’t wash. Between databases data is converted to and fro, irrespective of OS/App fonts installed. Sybase <-> Oracle doesn’t need a font installed. Viewing from SQL I don’t need a font installed.
But – thank you cor-el for effectively resolving my problem – even if I don’t understand the logic. Thank you for taking the time to reply!

  • What is the best wireless base station for a clamshell?

i want to purchase a wireless base station for my clamshell but am unsure on which apple product to buy. do you recommend the airport extreme or just the original airport. i've heard from some people that the extreme doesnt' work that well.

The perks of the airport extreme base station are Wireless B/G/N compatibility as well as a USB port for sharing external harddrives, printers, etc.
Your ibook is only compatible with Wireless B networks, so there is no sense in paying for G/N compatibility unless you really need it. The same holds true for the USB port in my opinion. Unless you need it why pay for it.
The original airport base stations are cheaper, and they do exactly what you need them to do.
    That's my two cents

  • What is the best heap memory setting for JBoss?

I am running a Windows 2003 server and JBoss is running as service.  The current heap configurations is 1024, but I am having some problems with the service failing.  What is the optimal heap memory setting?  Thank you,

There is no optimal memory setting for LiveCycle.
It depends on the components you have chosen to deploy.  If Content Services ES2 is deployed, your heap size settings should be about 2 GB, otherwise 1.0 - 1.7 GB might suffice.

  • Best QT output setting for Keynote?

Apoogies in advance if I'm posting this in the wrong Forum...
It seems that, for me, the quality of QuickTime files drops somewhat when embedded and played in Keynote. As well as a change in contrast/brightness (gamma?). However, the file looks just fine when viewed in QT Player. I'm using high-quality codecs - typically either "Animation" (I do alot of recording of applications from a Mac desktop, also for when I need an alpha channel) or "h264" (when I don't need an alpha channel).
I'm not resizing the movies when they're in Keynote, so is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?
What QT output settings give the best results in Keynote? Will the file always look worse then if it's played in QuickTime Player?

You're probably doing nothing wrong.  Many players will not unsqueeze the footage automatically, you have to tell it to do that with a keypress or menu setting.

  • Best wireless modem/router for Comcast internet service?

    Hello!
I am looking to switch internet service from Verizon DSL to Comcast. I have a MacBook Pro using Airport Extreme (supports 802.11 a/b/g/n), and my other computer is an iMac (OS 10.5.8, iMac 6,1), with a printer and a Roku box (I'm also thinking about switching to Apple TV). All are currently set-up wirelessly with a combined modem/router.
I know that there is a list of a bunch of potentials on the Comcast website, but I'm looking for real experience from Mac users. Good, bad or neutral comments are appreciated.
    Thank you!
    Ken

Don't pay Comcast monthly for a router. Buy a router. A router is a router, the best routers are Cisco based rackmount devices. Honestly the AirPort Express and Extreme are amazing and work quite well with Apple products. Plus if you purchase one and get AppleCare on it you get AWESOME support from your friendly AppleCare advisors... sure as **** beats going to India and talking to Fred.

  • Best Compression/Size setting for posting movie on Blog

Newbie here - Thanks for the help BTW.
I created a little movie from still pics through IMovie08. I exported it a few different ways to my desktop in order to get it on my IWeb blog page, but many of my friends and family were not able to open the file.
I believe it's a QT file now. What should I be doing to make this work for everybody? Is there a certain file type that is best for this situation?
Again - Thank you for any direction you can give me.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What I've done is use the File->Export for Web->Desktop option in Quicktime. Then one way to get it online and have a page load without waiting for the movie to completely load is to place the movie in your iDisk's Movie folder and add a button/link to a poster frame image of the movie via an HTML Snippet that will open the movie in a new window, one that is sized to the movie's size. This demo page is an example of such a button and has the code used in the snippet.
if the Export to Web is till too large post in the Quicktime to see what you might find there. You can still use the button snippet to make the page load quicker.
