Best Xserve recommendation for Ad Studio

Could any please provide best recommendations for Xserve with Ad Studio comprising Raid 5 3-6 TB storage, 10-20 Macs with 3 power uses wanting to work live on 2-3GB files. The xserve will also be connected to existing windows server for exchange mail. The other users are lite office users so main issue is to provide fast secure access for power users. As this is brand new site the only existing requirements is connectivity to the smbs server for mail as all data will be transferred to new xserve.

• A basic, low-end Xserve with two internal hard drives in a mirrored RAID, and a Fibre-Channel card
• a Promise Vtrak RAID with 6TB storage and room for expansion
Depending on your budget, you may also want to set up a Fibre-Channel network for the power users. This is expensive and maybe optional, depending on your performance needs. Gigabit ethernet might work for the power users' connection to the server, but maybe not. For a fibre channel network you'd need:
• a fibre-channel switch
• Fibre channel cards for each of the power users' workstations
• Xsan2 so more than one server/workstation can connect directly to the storage.
• cabling
And, of course, you'll need a solution for backing up all that data.

  • Where does one find the Oracle Best Practice/recommendations for how to DR

What is the Oracle Best Practice for install/deployment and configuration of ODI 11g for Disaster Recovery?
We have a project that is using Oracle ODI 11g (11.1.1.5).
We have configured all the other Oracle FMW components as per the Oracle DR EDG guides. Basically using the Host ip name/aliasing concept to ‘trick’ the secondary site into thinking
it is primary and continue working with minimal (or no) manual reconfiguration. But will this work for ODI? The FMW DR guide has sections for SOA, WebCenter and IdM, but nothing for ODI.
Since ODI stores so much configuration information in the Master Repository..when this DB gets ‘data guarded’ to the secondary site and promoted to Primary…ODI will still think it is at the ‘other’ site. Will this break the actual agents running the scenarios?
Where does one find the Oracle Best Practice/recommendations for how to DR ODI properly?
We are looking for a solution that will allow a graceful switchover/failover with minimal manual re-configuration.

The only resource I have is this website and the only binaries seem to be for Linux OS.You have one other HUGE resource that, while it won't answer your current question, you'd better start getting familiar with if you are going to use Oracle. • What are Best Practice Recommendations for Java EE 7 Property File Configuration?

Where does application configuration belong in modern Java EE applications? What best practice(s) recommendations do people have?
By application configuration, I mean settings like connectivity settings to services on other boxes, including external ones (e.g. Twitter and our internal Cassandra servers...for things such as hostnames, credentials, retry attempts) as well as those relating business logic (things that one might be tempted to store as constants in classes, e.g. days for something to expire, etc).
    Assumptions:
We are deploying to a Java EE 7 server (Wildfly 8.1) using a single EAR file, which contains multiple wars and one ejb-jar.
We will be deploying to a variety of environments: Unit testing, local dev installs, cloud based infrastructure for UAT, Stress testing and Production environments. **Many of  our properties will vary with each of these environments.**
We are not opposed to coupling property configuration to a DI framework if that is the best practice people recommend.
All of this is for new development, so we don't have to comply with legacy requirements or restrictions. We're very focused on the current, modern best practices.
Does configuration belong inside or outside of an EAR?
If outside of an EAR, where and how best to reliably access them?
If inside of an EAR we can store it anywhere in the classpath to ease access during execution. But we'd have to re-assemble (and maybe re-build) with each configuration change. And since we'll have multiple environments, we'd need a means to differentiate the files within the EAR. I see two options here:
Utilize expected file names (e.g. cassandra.properties) and then build multiple environment specific EARs (eg. appxyz-PROD.ear).
Build one EAR (eg. appxyz.ear) and put all of our various environment configuration files inside it, appending an environment variable to each config file name (eg cassandra-PROD.properties). And of course adding an environment variable (to the vm or otherwise), so that the code will know which file to pickup.
What are the best practices people can recommend for solving this common challenge?
    Thanks.

    HI Bob,
As sometimes when you create a model using a local wsdl file then instead of refering to URL mentioned in wsdl file it refers to say, "C:\temp" folder from where you picked up that file. you can check target address of logical port. Due to this when you deploy application on server it try to search it in "c:\temp" path instead of it path specified at soap:address location in wsdl file.
Best way is  re-import your Adaptive Web Services model using the URL specified in wsdl file as soap:address location.
    like http://<IP>:<PORT>/XISOAPAdapter/MessageServlet?channel<xirequest>
or you can ask you XI developer to give url for webservice and username password of server

  • Any best practice recommendations for controlling access to dashboards?

    Everyone,
I understand that an Xcelsius dashboard compiled into a .swf file contains no means for providing access control to limit who can or how many times they can run the dashboard. Basically, if they have a copy of the .swf they can use it as much as they'd like. To protect access to sensitive data I'd like to be able to control who can access the dashboard and how many times or how long they can access it for.
From what I've read it seems the simplest way to do this is to embed the swf file into a web portal that requires a user to authenticate before accessing the file. I suppose I can then handle how long they can access it from the back end.
If I do this, is there anyway a user can do something like <right click - save as> on the flash file to save it on their local machine? Is there a best practice means for properly protecting the dashboard?
    Any advice would be appreciated,

  • Help!!! The best audio interface for Logic Studio

    Hey y'all,
I'm looking for an audio interface. Requirements are: microphone- (XLR), instrument- (1/4") and midi-connectors. I'd like to record everything 1 by 1 all by myself, without audio playback/slowing-down issues. I'm quite new with recording and have no idea which one suits my system and software the best. I want to record as easy as possible and with the most beautiful results available. Price range of up to €500.
    My MacBook Pro:
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
    Geheugen 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    My software: Logic Studio
    Thanks!

If Midi connectivity is important: Focusrite Saffire 6 (USB). Check out the User Guide:
    http://www.focusrite.com/downloads/saffire_6_usb/
Otherwise, I would strongly recommend Mackie's Onyx Blackjack, especially when also out gigging. Check out the product page and you can also download an Owner's Manual:
    http://www.mackie.com/products/onyxblackjack/
I use the Mackie . User Guides/Manuals are a great way of checking out detail about a product when deciding what to buy.
I thought that Sennheiser were well known for headphones, not microphones.

  • Best practice recommendation for locale-specific text/labels

What is the recommended best practice approach to supporting locale-specific
text for labels, messages when using Jdeveloper to create applets and applications.
I am familiar with resource bundles, but wonder if there is a better approach within
JDeveloper. Are there any plans to enhance this area in 9.0.3?

I am familiar with resource bundles, but wonder if there is a better approach within
JDeveloper. Resourcebundles are the java-native way of handling locale-specific texts.
Are there any plans to enhance this area in 9.0.3? For BC4J, in 9.0.3, all control-hints and custom-validation messages (new feature) are generated in resource-bundles rather than xml-files to make it easier to "extend" for multiple locales.

  • Best Xserve configuration for MySQL?

Basically, I'm trying to figure out the optimal configuration for our next Xserve. Obviously, more RAM, more CPUs, more and faster disks in RAID, etc will improve things. But considering that money doesn't grow on trees, what have some of you found to be particularly cost-efficient in building an Xserve to run mainly MySQL where there are many small INSERTs on indexed (!? tables of 10 million or more rows (DB size of ~1GB, presently). I realize it's kind of a "depends if" type of question, but I'm just curious what people have found. (I've also read that AnandTech article that wasn't too kind to Mach.)
Anyway, I was thinking of an quad-core Xserve with 4-8GB of RAM, and a RAID5 set of 15K SAS drives. Well, there's not much in terms of options anyway. But this box will be like I said 90% running services that depend on MySQL performance. Some Web services, but mainly automated MySQL stuff.
Should I even bother to look at a Sun or Dell running Linux?
I'm presently running primarily an Xserve dual G5 2GHZ with MegaRAID in RAID5. As I said, the key database is about 1GB with ~10 million rows (mostly in just two tables). So, small data sets, already heavily indexed... Anyway, any thoughts are very welcome. Here is a status snapshot of the past couple days:

    Variable Value Description
Flush_commands 1 The number of executed FLUSH statements.
Lastquerycost 0 The total cost of the last compiled query as computed by the query optimizer. Useful for comparing the cost of different query plans for the same query. The default value of 0 means that no query has been compiled yet.
Slow_queries 338 The number of queries that have taken more than longquerytime seconds.

RAID 5 is the worst possible storage option for databases.
That's not to say it won't work, but it has an overhead that will impact disk I/O, especially writes and it sounds like your data set is write-heavy.
This is because a write requires a Read-Modify-Write process for every write - whenever you write data to the array it has to read all the existing data in the corresponding blocks, recalculate the new parity data, then write it all back.
This may or may not be a problem for you, depending on actual quantity and scale of the writes, but if you're looking for the best configuration, RAID 5 is not it.
For optimal performance use RAID 0. Of course, RAID 0 has no protection, so you need to deal with that.
The ideal combination is RAID 0+1, but that requires a minimum of four drives, while the XServe can only handle three internal drives.
As for the rest of it, you really need to analyze your data more before you can get an answer.
The number of rows is largely irrelevant if you're just inserting data. It has some bearing on indexes, so you need to look at how your data is indexed.
As for memory, the ideal configuration is at least enough memory for MySQL to load all the indexes into RAM - most lookups should be indexed and if those indexes fit entirely within the memory space you're off to a good start.
Note that the standard MySQL is 32-bit, so you're limited to 2GB for InnoDB or MyISAM (whichever you're using). You'll need the 64-bit version to use more memory than that.
Most performance bottlenecks (and gains) can be traced to either indexes (too many indexes can be just as bad as not enough), and application (there's significant overhead in opening a new MySQL connection (which is a large factor in the AnandTech article), so try to ensure that your application uses connection pools (where a number of connections are opened when the app starts, and reused through application processes rather that a new connection opened for every query). Without knowing the application it's impossible to narrow that one down much more.
As for Sun or Dell - sure, they're options. Just be aware that you'll need Solaris or Linux admin skills in order to get the most out of them. They may (but not necessarily will) perform faster at the end of the day, but it may also take you much time and heartache to get there.
The other thing that you don't mention is why you're looking to upgrade. Is the G5 currently stressed? If so, where? what's the typical CPU load? disk activity level? network load, etc.
It doesn't make any sense upgrading the machine if the network is your bottleneck - all you're going to do is move that same bottleneck to a different machine.

i am a FCP user on a G5. i need to begin to load and initially edit video while traveling and then take that FC project file and load it onto my home based G5 for further work. i am considering a macbook and FC express to accomplish this task.
    my questions are:
does it matter that the new macbooks are intel processors and my G5 is not intel based? will i have any compatibility problems with SW/file transfers.
is FC Express the best SW to use for the load and initial edits?
is there a best practice recommendation for what i want to do?
    thank you.

    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   use FCP HD 5.0.1

FCP will run on a MacBook. It's not support, and the Studio is not supported because of Motion's graphics requirements, but quite a few people are running FCP on basic MacBooks. Just make sure it has enough RAM.

  • Anyone recommend best iTunes release for user with no iPhone/iPod touch?

After finally resolving some iPod restore issues - I am going to clean up my Windows install with a fresh install this weekend.
Just wonder what folks think about always using the latest iTunes if one does not have an iPhone/iTouch etc. As I gathered as much info as I could on the iTunes releases within the last year or so - it seems each release tends to add more overhead. Like more services suddenly appearing like the "mobile device" service being installed on top of the already RAM hungry core components.
When I first got this iPod for Xmas last year - and installed iTunes for the first time - the thing that struck me the most was watching iTunes guzzle 65MB of RAM just sitting there doing nothing (not even playing a track). After that eye-opener (and no change for the better over the last release which seem to use somewhere around 90MB in my last tests) - I simply reverted back to Winamp 5.35 as my actual player. It uses 4.5MB when minimized to the System Tray and I simply set it to scan the My Music folder - giving me the entire library with almost no overhead - I mean c'mon...90MB to just listen to some music?
So - if you are in this situation - 5.5g 80GB iPod with no iPhone, no iPod Touch and use iTunes simply to load/manage the iPod - what iTunes release (within the last year) would you recommend for the best balance of features/performance and least amount of background drain? I have read some have stuck with 7.2.3.6...good? Bad?
Another Q - if I was to go current - can one install the 7.5 package and then uninstall or disable that Mobile Service(or not even install it all at) when installing iTunes?
    Appreciate any comments!
    Cheers!
    VP

I don't recall there being any choices when it came to installing iTunes. I guess if there is an issue about the resources that iTunes is using, I would only start iTunes when I want to manage the music on the iPod. Otherwise, not start and/or minimize it, especially since you are using another software product to play music. I haven't started iTunes on my laptop today, and the iTunes helper is only using 1.9MB of memory right now. I'm using the latest version. I'll start up iTunes and give you a reply on how much it is using.
I just started iTunes and it is only using 31MB of RAM.

    Hi,
I love Visual Studio. I use it since 2006 for c#, asp, WinForm project, etc. I have a question about PHP / Simple Web dev :
Which is the extention between VS.PHP and PHP TOOLS ?
    What i need :
    - Intellisence (auto completion all PHP core class and functions and major extention, project lib class and functions)
    - Powerfull debug, with break points etc...
-Web server integartion (apache, nginx, mysql)
    - Live edit over FTP
    - Publish over FTP the file projet
    - MySQL Integration (design tools, etc ?)
[- Integration of some platform like Drupal or Wordpress (intellisence and debut)
    - Integartion with other HTML/Javascript framework (jquery, angular etc.) ]
    - CONTROL + K + D indentation for all documents
    Thanks for your opinion.

    Hi nicpulse,
Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.
Since this forum is to discuss: Visual Studio WPF/SL Designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation
and Help System, and Visual Studio Editor.
    >>VS.PHP vs PHP TOOLS for Visual Studio : which is the best ?
Based on your issue, since the PHP Tools and VS.PHP are involved to the Extensions tool,
this extension tool is out of support range of this forum.
In my option, I think that there have no specified answer about which is the best in the
VS.PHP vs PHP TOOLS for Visual Studio.
It is just depend on which is appropriate for your requirement, so I suggest you can see the feature about the VS.PHP and
PHP Tools. And then choose which extension tool is appropriate your requirement.

  • Best minimum iMac for running FCP Studio

A client of mine has hundreds of hours of tapes\film she wants to turn into a film. I want to set her up with an 'inexpensive' iMac powerful enough to run FCP Studio ...
I want to transfer (up-rez) all her footage to an HD ProRes format (not sure which yet), so she will be working in HD.
She needs to be able to view her footage and rough cut it into manageable chunks. Then I'll help her with the editing ... right up to final post-production, at which point we will move it into my studio which has all the bells and whistles.
So I'm looking for just enough power to capture all the footage, to work in HD, but not so much that she goes broke setting up an edit suite she may only use for this one film.
    All ears,
    Ben

Check the minimum system requirements for FCP Studio. That will tell you what minimum hardware is required to use it. According to the Apple site:
*Minimum System Requirements to Install All Applications*
Mac computer with an Intel processor
1GB of RAM (2GB of RAM recommended for working with compressed HD and uncompressed SD sources; 4GB of RAM recommended for working with uncompressed HD sources)
